Nantucket Downtown Historic District

Historical, beautiful, reminiscent of the New England coast. Nantucket for its fishing and life escapes, the island has sustainable farms and local folklore for its heritage. Very much an aristocratic Kennedy jaunt worthy of a Southeasterly sail for the historically passionate.

Historically adorable! Tiny boutique shops filled with flare and quaint items for purchase. The stones streets were fun to traverse. Brant points beach and lighthouse provided tons of boat watching and shell hunting. Beware the baskets, they are not locally sourced!

Nantucket Island and the Isle of Manhattan are my two favorite places to be. Both make me respect the history and power of our people and country. And both are just beautiful.

Rare glimpse of a forgotten era! Spend some time wandering the cobblestone streets (avoid heels!) and savor the olde worlde atmosphere.

Some very nice shops. Very cute charming and quaint. I was a little surprised how the sidewalks were in disrepair. I watched someone trip over a brick and kicked it a foot he picked it up and put it back in its place

This was my first time back in 35 years and if I knew how much it had changed I never would have returned. What really distinguished Nantucket from other seaside resort towns was the fact that there were no cars allowed. You could easily spend the day seeing the sites, on foot. Nantucket is no longer a moment frozen in time or the gem it once was. It is now over-run with SUVs and way too many people in hurry.

Just returned with my daughter from our 27th annual ack weekend. wx was great. being 30 miles out to sea has a moderating influence on temp & humidity. historic district encompasses virtually the entire downtown. it includes a heavily cobbled main street over which wagons once delivered whale-oil to warehouses, the facade of one still exists. architecture in the commercial district is sensitive to nantuckets history as a whaling port. most anything one would need is available within walking distance downtown. lodging, entertainment, dining & nightlife, cultural sites & museums, retail offerings including clothing, jewelry, pharmacy, wine & liquor, supermarket, extensive selection of walk-up food offerings, auto/moped/bike rental options. you get the idea. the historical district is the beating of the town. we love it.
