It is beautifully preserved inside. The employees are very warm and welcoming. The museum itself is a little small. But it is so cool to see it all! My children always enjoy visiting.
There is so much history to learn here, about Nampa, about train, about native Americans, and people’s life in general. The museum staff, all volunteers, are so friendly and knowledgeable. It is touching and humbling to know that so many people devote their time, make tremendous efforts, and donate artifacts, to make this little-town museum possible and preserve its rich history.
The city did a great job to preserve this building; worth a visit to check out the historical museum and trains.
Canyon County is a great place for children to learn all about trains with wonderful train sets to display. In addition, the Canyon County Historical Society puts on an amazing show of the Polar Express movie around Christmas time for everybody in the family to enjoy with a special appears from Santa. They also have a great Halloween event.
Unfortunately the museum was closed the day I took my 4 yr old friend. We still enjoyed our day watching the trains from the well-maintained, albeit tiny, grounds near the tracks. The highlight of our afternoon was the conductor waving at my friend from the engine as he was hooking up cars. Nothing could have been more joyful to experience than the sheer delight I saw in his eyes, he felt so special . One simple gesture ..... Whod a thought could mean so much??
Informative and fun staff enjoy their jobs
We just had the best time, looking around and sharing with the grandkids. The carriage ride was wonderful!! Were very appreciative!
Great little county museum. Lots of interesting local tidbits. Kind of overwhelming to kids who are not familiar with the area, but they tried the best they could to explain what they had. Definitely a nostalgic trip for older folks!!!
Said it was open, but wasnt. Sad.
Amazing things you can see here!!
Knowledgeable volunteers, nice collection. Would be nice for the community if it were county/city funded. They could do so much more.
Historical Train Depot and museum very well kept . Wish Amtrak ran through here and they would open the train depot up here . Southern Pacific still runs through these tracks . I would think it would be possible for Amtrak to do the same.
$4 to get in and we had a private tour. All volunteers. They were great!
Not much to see but cool place didnt know existed
Super awesome and insightful thing to do! I thoroughly enjoyed my full tour for only $2 with three of my friends. Definitely not a waste of time and a fun thing to do with friends and family
Great place with a good collection of artifacts. Very knowledgeable employees/volunteers too!
What a fantastic historical treasure, right in our own backyard. Great care has been taken to preserve what made our town into what we know our to be today. If you havent been there, I highly recommend it.
I am a history nerd so when I entered I was immediately entered into the past just by the entryway. The guides were really kind and knowladgable in the history of every object they have on display and even went and told some stories of their pasts of when they actually used to wait for the trains themselves and even some of the kitchen sets and how they used to actually have particular furniture in their childhood homes. I was even more interested when they went into the backstory of every item and how they came into the musium and how every object they have obtained all links back to when the train station used to not only have passengers in the form of people but also how it was a poular shipping yard just acrossed the tracks on the other side. Overall, the tour itself is unique in a way. I would recommend that anyone who wants to have a chance to have fun as well as learn that this would be great to go through and experience. With all they stories though just make sure you have at least 3 hours so you can experience everything there is to offer and at the end you actually get to sit in an old passenger car and see how it used to operate. I cant sing enough prase for this place and the people who run it.
The Christmas Tea Party was wonderful!
A great place to let the four legged kids run
The history and the helpful volunteers who were happy to show us the exhibition
I was sceptical at first, but the tour was informative, fun, has great picture opportunities, and the restored caboose is awesome. Way worth the 3 dollar entry.
They hosted an intimate Polar Express event complete with trains, Santa and elves.
