We have been touring Oklahoma museums and this has been my favorite one so far! Sean was our guide and he did an amazing job. He shared great stories, interesting facts and kept our parents and students engaged. This is a must-do for your Oklahoma experience!
Very interesting. Very educational and eye-opening. Walked from the Boomarang restaurant to the museum beautiful walk only a 2-mile round trip
Its a small but very informative Museum. The staff are very friendly and helpful and I learned a lot from this short visit.
Traveling with the Tulsa Creek indian community center today. Eight of us traveled to Honey Creek battlefield near Checota, OK. From there we drove back to Muskogee to Three Rivers Museum in downtown Muskogee. It was nice, a lot larger than it looked from the outside. Mostly early Muskogee artifacts plus a lot of Indian heritage arts and lore. Then on to the Five Civilized Tribes Museum near Honor Heights Park, by the Veterans Hospital. This was the one we came to see. It was filled with Five Civilized Tribes relics and artifacts on the 1st floor with a few pieces of art. Then we went to the 2nd floor. There was a art exhibit to see and paintings by well known artists and some by contemporary artists. It was great. If youre interested in Oklahoma Indian history, this is one of the places you should visit. It was a good day for 8 seventy and eighty year old youngsters. We all loved it.
My go to place in Muskogee. Love the history there.
Great price for the experience and a beautiful park right below it makes for a great day
Small but good source for history of native Americans in Oklahoma. I learned a lot from the half hour video.
Small place but cool inside
Loved being there and reading all the history.
Fun little museum. Make sure you do the outside tour!
Is small but very quaint. Loved that the museum is in an actual historic building. We really enjoyed the staff.
The manager of this place is rude and unbearable. Pulled over today because of a phone call and which he responded with telling me he doesnt care to park in a parking spot which i was in the back. I am around this area continously this museum does not get a lot of traffic guess i know why noone comes here
Great little place to visit. Im not native American but I love learning the history and culture. Very impressive and very reasonable prices.
Its small, and they intentionally keep it that way to fit into the old original building. Not much actually on display, mostly informative displays and a few photographs. The old building is restored and impressive.
Wonderful people, great information would like to go back someday.
Went to see a special exhibit of Barbara McAlisters work. I loved it. Great place to learn about the five tribes that were forcibly removed to this area.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Excellent art on exhibit.
So informative and very exciting to learn about the tribes
Although not owned or ran by any of the 5 Indian tribes that it represents.... Its a very comprehensive timeline of the history of the 5 civilized tribes.
A real find and treasure trove of native american artThey have a lot of Jerome Tiger in their permanent collection but it is only exhibited annually in August. So I was told about the Tiger Gallery on the east of town run by Dana Tiger (daughter) with an amazing collection of Tiger family originals and prints.Museum had extensive history and artifacts of Creek Cherokee Choctaw Chickasaw and Seminole tribal arts and memerobilia.Definitely worth the trip, good gift shop too.
Staff are very knowledgeable, a need to go place if you’re N.A. Thanks for keeping up the past.
The ac upstairs was broken but the displays were informative and engaging.
Clean, orderly, very knowledgeable and helpful docents and many fine pieces of hand crafted art on display and for sale are found here.
While the price was nice and cheap, it was lacking any real wow factor. The staff seemed stand-off-ish and robotic. The place was lacking in any real amount of artifacts and had nothing to pull interest out of our children. It’s a shame, the house it’s taking place in is beautiful and isn’t being used to it’s full potential. Would look else where to go next time.
The warm welcome by the staff made this visit very homely. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience especially viewing the art work upstairs.
It is lacking in structure of the Indian culture. It has some of the past. But so little of it. You would think they could expand. And that the Casinos could contribute to make the museum great with many Indian treasures for all people to experience. And share the past. Instead of building another Casino to take away from the money flow to our town. And break down our structure. And how petty it seems to ask for a fee to view what looks to be a garage sale. In a honorable place that should hold the Five Civilized Tribes honorable past. How soon they forget. True rags to riches at anyones expense. How proud they should be in the manner in which they gain there respect. Go Bless All People.
A little too politically correct for me rather than factually significant.
Amazing place with lots of cool things about the tribes.
This is a great museum/art gallery. Lots of great history. Great artifacts and beautiful paintings and art!
Cool place. Located in a historical building in a very historical area of the state. Lots of artifacts and information. No pictures allowed though.
Good day trip
Went up to see the baitfish and they was close and ended up here, Good place to go.
Very interesting place. Its fairly small, though. I would have like to see more there. We probably spent about 20 minutes there, looking at everything.
We had a very interesting visit to this museum. Many items to read on the walls explaining the history of the Five Tribes. On the second floor they have about an hour video that was very informative you want to watch if time permits. Almost more than one can absorb in one visit. Will be returning.
Excellent small museum with great staff and bookshop. Displays are well curated. Interesting information on code talkers from Choctaw and other tribes beside Navajo. Denise was so helpful answering questions and pointing out appropriate books for further research both in the shop and on the internet. Not much upstairs other than contemporary art display and continuous showing of a DVD on Eastern woodland Indians.
The building is small, much much smaller than it used to be. But if u enjoy true Native American history and art then this is the place. Down stairs is the moderate collection of history oriented pieces and upstairs (they do have one small elevator and one wheel chair that can be used within the building) was the modern art pieces which have been in competitions and are displayed with their ribbons. There is a catch if you are a photography buff, you are ONLY allowed to take pictures downstairs of the historical pieces.
This is part of history that is good to know but would not keep kids interested. You want to appreciate art for this stop. Current art display by Jerome Tiger and absolutely awesome. There are stairs to go up to see the art collection so take that in consideration. It is a historical building with no elevator.
Nice little museum
Been to many events when I was a little girl, the experience is something Ill never forget and hope to share with my daughters soon
Great little museum
Some great information, however the gallery was closed when we were there due to an exhibit coming up this weekend.
Very nice museum. Lovely people who take the time to ensure a great visit.
Very nice and friendly staff. Nice info about the five civilized tribes.
Very informative
Amazing place! Will definitely be back.
It was good side trip
Great history... Many artifacts for each tribe. It takes about 45 minutes to go through. Yet you will learn something new. Great for any history buff especially toward Native American history. Will definitely be back.
Small museum, but good quality and knowledgeable staff.
Very informative and educational. An historic landmark.
I was expecting more exhibits about Indian cultures, but was disappointed. The brochure was more informative
This tells a great stories of the Native American tribes
Love this place the gift shop is awesome
Wonderful collection, very interesting building. Great exhibits.
An excellent place to learn about the trail of tears and the tribes that made up Indian territory. They have a rotation of art so theres always something different. Its inexpensive so you can go back often and not break the bank to see the new art.
Small museum, very cool.
Totally worth it. Great tour.
Good and varied exhibit of all 5 tribes. Historic, cultural and art.
Interesting look at history and culture of the 5 tribes.
Had such a great time here. Great historical artifacts and art to help anyone understand our states history. Worth the drive.
A very nice lil museum of some Oklahoma history. Very clean, friendly staff & it has an elevator to the second floor for those that arent able to climb the stairs.
Very good history of the native American Indians. This was very educational.
Very nice, good history of moving tribes (relocation to Oklahoma)
Way cool place to visit
My grandsons and husband and l loved it, so informative, nice people that ran it. Keep.up the good work.
It was a wonderful experience! Great information! I also learned things I didnt know.
Very interesting place to come with the family. We learned a lot about the different tribes and enjoyed the artwork too.
A beautiful small museum dedicated to the story of the Five Civilized Tribes, highlighting history of Removal and the latter days of Indian Territory, culture, and art.Current exhibition of art by Willard Stone and son Jason Stone worth the visit.
Great place to visit and take in native Americans of Oklahoma history.
I like museums. I am a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation. The museum is next to the Muskogee VA Hospital.
Weak on history. Nice art gallery by Indian artists.
