It is always a joy to go to the Desert Star Playhouse. Especially to get away from all the chaos of this year. Weve been season ticket holders going on 3 years now and its skyways a good time. I would definitely recommend to anyone that loves dry humor.
I LOVE this place, but there must be a sewer issue because it stinks to high heaven in the hallways in this place. What is going on? Definitely needs fixed!! It has been going on for a couple weeks, according to staff!!
This place never fails to make me laugh from all their many parody productions mixed with local Utah culture! We just bought season tickets for the 4th year in a row and cant wait for more productions like CSI: Provo or James Blond! They are back in business covid style with social distancing and masks requirements for your/their safety. Dont miss out this local gem!
Saw CSI: Provo last night and oh my goodness. It was good and even though we were wearing our masks and was unable to eat at our tables, it was STILL a great time to spend with my mom. The whole night was great thanks to the acting cast and the helpful staff.
Awesome dinner theater! They are open despite Covid-19, but no food or drink of any kind, including water is not allowed in the theater. They do have any intermission though, and thats more than enough time to to get some water from your car. Theyre also serving water during the intermission. I highly recommended this place to anyone.
Show was pretty good but the COVID precautions were non existent! Tables are too close together. Was rubbing shoulders with the table next to us. Unless their precautions improve, Im not going back!
We love the desert Star. We have been season ticket holders for several year. Theyre plays are funny and good for date night or a family outing. Their food is reasonably priced for the atmosphere so order a pizza, sandwich, wrap, appetizer, and a drink and laugh your buns off.
Love the Deseret Star Playhouse. So much fun and great laughs. Have season tickets and really looking forward to the next show
Great place to take a break from life. The show was funny, fun and great.
No social distancing in the seating. But the jokes were funny. Had a good time.
It was so great to be back! We are season ticket holders and we have missed the laughs! Thank you to all the actors for a great night!!!
First time there. My wife and I really enjoyed the play. Looking forward to going back.
Great times. Great cast. Great stories. Nice escape from real life.
The play was fantastic as always. Their new socially distanced dinner before the show and new menu was a great way for them follow protocols to keep their customers safe and still enjoy the dinner and a show experience.
They always do a fantastic job at making you laugh.
I always have so much fun when I go to Desert Star. A guaranteed great date night!
We have been going for 25 years but not so kid friendly as of late, on our last visit paid for season tickets no one can answer how we redeem our pre paid tickets while closed for Covid and last show my kids were forced to watch a horrific advisement for a haunted house not family friendly anymore. not feeling the playhouse this year the only way to redeem our tickets is a horror house? And why cant we just bring friends on those tickets not sure, but cant talk to anyone, hours on the phone and no answers booooooo hisssssss dun nuuu nuuun
Super fun! Good food! The show was funny and entertaining! I highly recommend it for all ages, as they are good at having a variety of humor and jokes. I havent gone to a show with anyone who didnt laugh at at least one joke. The singing is awesome as well! And even if you dont like musicals, youll enjoy this one!
Super Fun and very entertaining playhouse! Very well scripted and endless laughter! Bring your friends and come laugh until your sides ach! The food is decent and waiters do their best, although the tables are a bit small and crowded, I had to eat my dinner on my lap.... So I would suggest sitting toward the front or back but not in the middle... It also takes a bit longer to get food in the middle of the audience...I asked for minor substitutions on my meal ( no onion rings, and add pickles) the onion ring was not removed but I did get extra pickles... Its also very dark to try to see what your eating... Ask for additional napkins and you wont be disappointed.Id go again for sure! Great fun I really enjoyed the play. Worth the $$$.
Nice place and great show to enjoy with your family and friends
Always fun at desert star! Taking all the right precautions to keep social distancing good!
The show was great. I wish theyd get back to serving food.
I absolutely love this place, their satirical plays are so funny!
The show today was awesome and the Olio was even better!
We had a great time and will go back again!
Season ticket holder and plan on renewing season pass next year!
A fun and wonderful performance! I loved spamilton and the actors. Hilarious and Im glad I was able to attend. Great service too. Highly recommend
It good to have them back, the plays are always great. The current social distancing and safety precautions are a touch awkward but the right thing to do.
I wish I could attend ALL of their performances, but I live too far away! It was a MOST enjoyable afternoon! They interact so well with the audience for a very fun and memorable afternoon. Dont miss this event!
Great food. Great show. Great laughs.
Good place for a date night! All their shows are parodies but they put a lot of effort into them. Lots of local and current event humor which can be pretty fun.
Such a fun show. Very Utah joke heavy so if youre not from around here, things might be a little lost. But it was a great time. And the wait staff was fabulous. Attentive but not interrupting the show.
Our kids really enjoy it here. The actors and actresses do such a great job and are pretty witty with their impromptu jokes. We visit a couple times a year and enjoy it every time. Initially it can feel a bit pricey when purchasing tickets. But when you get their and see the effort they put into catering to their customers the value becomes clear. Thank you Desert Star Playhouse and to all the cast members!
This was a fun experience. The performance was well written and cute. It was also entertaining when they “improved” when one of them forgot a line. They clearly had fun with each other and that made it super fun to watch. Highly recommend.
Great food. So fun!
HILARIOUS and amazing food! This has been a great place to bring my son for date nights. Laughs always are on the menu and the food is so good! Sometimes the service of food is a little slow, but really we come for the show so not complaining, its gotta be a difficult job. We love it!
Always great entertainment. Both the scripted and unscripted parts of the plays are funny. Food is fair. Service is generally acceptable, though slower with a high table-to-server ratio. They now serve alcohol. Didnt use this service this time around, though the waitress didnt make it to our table until nearly intermission.
We had a blast. My children absolutely loved. The actors are personable and funny. It is a great cabaret styled experience with lots of laughs and great service!
The entertainment here is pretty good. Sometimes it takes them a bit to get going. But, then they hit a stride and I always come away with a smile. If nothing else, their funny Shame, Co commercials are always good for a laugh. The main reason I didnt rate them 5 stars was because of their food. Ive been here for about 2 dozen shows over the last 4 years and the last two years weve had their catered food in the banquet hall. I just gotta say, it is nasty. Their menu is full of microwave items, their buffet for the catered meals reminds me of the cafeteria food. Nobody wants mystery meat for dinner, especially when theyre paying for a catered event. But, Ive kept coming for the entertainment. They really do a good job.
This is my second year being a season ticket holder. My boyfriend and I use this as our monthly date night most of the time. The food is usually good but service is always slow. They always have specialty drinks based on what the show is that night. They are usually all good.
Oh of course, I see every show here! The Desert Star plays are great fun to see! And there is nothing more fun than having some good food to eat while the play is going on!
I have mobility issues and if you do this is not the place for you. There are a lot of steps to navigate inside the theater as well as well as they stuff 4-5 people on tables that only fit 2 comfortably and are on risers. I was on the edge and had no place to put my feet which caused a lot of pain in my knees and legs and so it was hard to concentrate on the play which was delightful. The food was delicious as well.
First time going here and was pleasantly surprised! I thought it would be all stuffy and crowded because of the small seating area compared to other theaters Ive been to, but it was really nice and not stuffy at all!Food was great too, and the performers were amazing!
G/f bought tickets to Christmas Carol pt. 2. Didnt know what to think! Loved it! Lots of fun! ONLY downside was food service was very slow. Still gave it 5 stars because of the atmosphere and the play was off the wall funny! Will make it a date night choice again!
We just had our company party here. It was such a great experience. The staff was very accommodating and professional. Our company LOVED the food, the show and the staff. We are planning on coming back in the future! Thank you for a wonderful experience.
Its always a good time. Been season ticket holders for 4 years with some great friends and have only had one performance that wasnt that good. Some are better than others, but always fun and a good time. They have had a few innuendoes that were a little over the line I think, but that is me. Its worth going if you want some corny humor, great music and a show thats a little off the cuff.
Putting together a celebration of life during a pandemic is a challenge that they delivered on.
Laughter really is the best medicine
Its not perfect, but what fun would that be? True, it can be crowded, the food can take a minute, but their focus should be the entertainment and they do that well. If you are set on having a good time, a good time will be had, and a great setting to do so. Pizza tastes like its brick oven baked, noticed myself and folks all around me smiling and laughing and thats what its all about.
A great atmosphere for family or a date good options for food and drinks. And free popcorn. The wait staff is always very attentive and on top of things. The shows are fun and good for all ages the staff are as accommodating as possible. Over all a great place!!
Great place to go. Food is not good at all but the play was amazing. Great job at interacting with the crowd. I would recommend this place for a good time and well worth money.
Awesome entertainment! I am always satisfied of the brilliant performance and great singing voices . I recommend it to everyone I know. Keep the good job guys!
We were season ticket holders for nearly 20 years, but had to stop a few years ago. This is our first time back and I was quite disappointed. It no longer felt family friendly. The humor was edgier and the clientele was more rough. It had more of a nightclub or bar feel. The folks behind us were inebriated before they arrived and alcohol kept coming. It was difficult at times to hear the show because they were so noisy, and that included the server. Sad to see it go this way. That may have been our last visit. Sad.
Had am amazing time. The entire family had a great time. The play was so funny and we are looking forward to the next one.
Quaint old time feeling. Gift shop, cafe and playhouse. Talented performers. Great for the whole family. Fun night.
Very good performance and food! Acting was great and voices were spot on. Food was a little slow(everyone orders around the same time after seated) and the show dragged a bit in some places. Other than that the jokes were great, comedy was clean and family friendly. Totally will be back!
Funny as always! Too cramped however.
I went on dates at Desert Star over 20 years ago when I was first dating my wife. We got married and bills, babies, and jobs have kept us from going out too often. My visit last night was for a work party, and I was amazed with the upkeep of the place. We had a well prepared buffet style meal with pork, turkey, vegetables and stuffing that left me wishing I had a bigger stomach. After dinner we went downstairs and watched a production of Scrooged Again which was comical and entertaining. Overall a good night! Im sure Ill be back.
Between the one liners, intricate dialoge set ups and witty humor we couldnt stop laughing! The time and attention put into the script was updated to the point that its obviously happening during the production run, only adding to the fun. The cast is clearly talented, the live music preformed by the vocalists and pianist was fantastic! We loved the interaction with the audience as as a parody theater audience participation is mandatory. Our son who struggles to sit still was so engaged it was never an issue.Seating is intimate but very comfortable and while the tables are close together it never felt like we were too close to others. (Jazz games have you packed in, here you have leg room and space...just as a comparison.)The food was amazing! We ordered the Smoky BBQ Chicken Pizza and my husband declared it the best pizza hed ever had! This isnt some ordered in and slapped on the table, but a craft style pizza. Places will cut corners, but they havent. The crust is made on site and in a bread making tradition that shows in the flavor and texture, you cant fudge on this. We also got the American burger with a Gluten Free bun for our child with celiacs, we had to double check with our server to be sure it was gluten free, it just looked too good. Again...they make it on site and our daughter was beyond delighted, it was amazing and really added to her experience! The third dish we ordered was the Southwest Chicken Wrap which was devoured by one of our other children. Theres arent small portions and the quality of the ingredients is plain to see.In spirit of our seeing a spoof that included Harry Potter elements we ordered a Butter Beer as well.Since seeing the play Ive been asked by each family member to go back to see additional productions (and this one a second time) as well as to see if we can order the food even if a play isnt in the cards that night.Well definitely be back!
Plays are hilarious! Love the improv. Food is decent. A little pricey on tickets for cramped seating. Fun night out with friends.
My Girlfriend and I went to see Sunday School Musical for my birthday. It was funny but I didnt get some of the jokes. The food was good, we had personal pizzas. We got a collective mug with a drink that said Desert Star on it. When the drink was gone we had to clean it ourselves to take it home thats the only problem i had that night.
I had a wonderful time. First time Ive been out in a long time. Really enjoyed the show. I will return.
We have been to Desert Star several times. Food is always good as well as the service. Holiday show this year was less than fantastic, it just wasnt a great story and didnt include many laughs. The end skits, which is played after the main program was in contrast very funny.I will definitely go again to one of the non-holiday shows. Hoping for something as funny as CSI Provo, probably my favorite show of all time.
Before I went I checked reviews and for the most part they were spot on. Great fun. Complaints about the food service are unwarranted; everybody orders within a few minutes of each other and the kitchen gets swamped but our food was good and came out as quickly as possible.
The staff was excellent and very personable, five stars for that. I went in expecting a play and found myself watching a variety show style performance. The humor was heavily catered to Utah residents so out of town visitors might not enjoy the experience as much. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food although there was a smaller selection than what you would find in a fu sized restaurant.
This was a fun night. It’s cheesy but in a good way and the food was tasty. My in-laws loves it so much that we are buying them season tickets for Christmas!
Always have a good time. Staff is super, food is better than expected. It is challenging to hear and understand the actors at times. Well go back!
Great show! We saw the Adams Family Reunion. It was awesome! The jokes were great the obvious times that lines were forgot or improvised always seemed to enhance the show. The audience was great. The girl that played Dementia did an excellent job. I will be coming back again!
Desert Star has an excellent cast and crew for their shows and their service staff are great! Tonight I got a pizza and it would have been good Im sure if it wasnt loaded with mushrooms. I do like them but not with every bite of my pizza. All of the other food was great and the waiter staff were very attentive with refills and making sure I was taken care of.
My wife and I attended the playhouse in 1/31 sling with another couple. We haven’t been to this playhouse in several years but we do have season tickets elsewhere plus we attend several other plays a year. The problem I had at the playhouse started ten minutes into the production. Our waitress brought our drinks plus the drinks for two other tables. I remember thinking how impressed I was that she could carry 12-15 drinks on one tray. Then she lost her balance and spilled the entire tray of drinks into my wife’s lap. She was stoked to the bone plus her purse was on the ground and full of water. There were a few other casualties, the guy in front of us got splashed on his back and my one leg was wet, but my wife could not have been wetter from the waist down.I get accidents happen. It was how it was handled that I have a problem with. The waitress left and never said she was sorry. Two other people came out and put towels on the floor but never asked what they could do for me wife. The manager came out during intermission and spoke with all of the tables around us but never to our table. Even though several people pointed him toward my wife. We never saw our waitress again, until the end of the night when she brought out our check. At which point the manager finally made it to our table. He said I heard there was a little spill over here. I Informed him it wasn’t a little spill that an entire tray was dumped on my wife and her pants and shirt had been wet for an hour. (honestly I’m shocked she sat there the whole time). He said he was sorry he didn’t have any pants he might be able to find a tee shirt somewhere and to please take this free coupon for a pizza when we came back.I declined on the shirt and pizza coupon paid my bill and left. When did customer service get so bad? I get accidents happen. The manager should have come over immediately and done everything he could to make my wife, and everyone else who got wet, as comfortable as possible. Then he should have apologized again and said please give us another chance. Here are tickets to come back again for your party and we are taking care of your bill for the evening. Honestly it wouldn’t have cost them much tif anything to try to make it right.Needless to say I won’t be back anytime soon. So in the end we got a show and a shower plus the added perk of replacing almost everything in my wife’s purse the was soaking in water and soda.
Fun playhouse with food and dessert options. The video vignettes were hilarious. I like the melding of Utah culture and a couple of holiday stories. Actors were funny and did a good job. I laughed more than I thought I would. 2 hours flew by quickly. Spent time recounting afterwards all the local pop culture references rather than worry about the snowstorm we were in. Well done!
Going to the Deseret Star Playhouse every Christmas has been a tradition for my wife and her family for years. I’ve been going for the last 10 and it’s something I look forward to every Christmas. The shows are always funny with amazingly talented people. Great as a date night or as a family outing. Highly recommended.
Desert Star Playhouse us one of those gems of Utah. They have good food, good atmosphere, and one the most hilarious shows around! I highly recommend families go to this establishment. I think youd most enjoy it after age 13 though because of some of the pop culture and political jokes they have (tasteful and funny). But that is not to say kids wont enjoy the singing, dancing, and plotlines of the show.My first date with my husband was here. Love this place!
I did not know what to expect. It always seems like low production plays. But how wrong I was. The play (James Blonde) was hilarious! Highly recommend for anyone who likes a play and comedy.
Love the shows and the food is decent. Only down side is they constantly run a fog machine and after two hours I was coughing non-stop. I wish they wouldnt run the fog/smoke machine so I could fully enjoy the experience without an asthmas attack.
We always have a great time when we come to watch a play here, they do parody type plays and it is a fun, laughable time️
Unlike any live theater experience I’ve ever had. It was really fun! The pizza was delicious, the actors could sing, act and dance. They do a great job at poking fun of our culture here in Utah - not at all offensive or distasteful, just hilarious! A really fun experience!
It was fun, Im not really a bro this sort of thing but my girlfriend really liked it. Was a good effort to entertain the masses.
What a great place. Well put together. A fun place and atmosphere. Food is okay, but priced well. A good place to go for s fun evening.
Hilarious shows, fun interactions, good enough food (I dont buy the food much but its not that overpriced). Im a big classical theater guy--just wanting to go to normal, professional shows most of the time. However, everyone should experience a show at Desert Star every once in a while!! Theres nothing else quite like it. Its great entertainment, great parodies, really random, really uplifting.
Went to see James Blonde and it was a great time, the play was funny it had a lot of local jokes that were hilarious, I would totally recommend this place for a date or just a night out.
This place was a total delight to visit. We got to enjoy the show freezing filled with laughs and guffaws. They also serve a variety of food that was delicious and they care about your experience. They like to have audience participation for Boos and Cheers and even some sing along. If you are up for a laugh check these guys out, great for birthdays, anniversaries, graduation, you name it. Hope you had as a fun a time as I did!!!
Fun for the whole family! The food is like going to a movie theater concessions stand. They have a lot of Utah specific puns and jokes. Always makes us laugh and want to return.
Play was fun but they cram us in the place, I felt like I had to move with the gal behind me because we were both eating and we kept accidentally elbowing each other. Food was good, the fries were some of the best from anywhere, hot and crunchy. The cast did a great job keeping the audience involved despite eating. I will be back. Thanks Adams Family cast and the many servers who rocked the food did an amazing job. What you ordered is what you were handed, not even a mistake in sight. Well done. Would have had 5 stars except for the sardine feeling.
Good shows. Highly recommend the pizza or specialty cocktails as you watch a show. Also the brownie sundae, mmmmm.
Family fun theater with food and great snacks. The entertainment is exactly what you want in a show like this. Cant wait for our next show!
A fun time for the family!
We felt very claustrophobic as we were in our assigned seats. My burger was good but I couldnt see what I was doing. I knew I had a fry sauce but couldnt see where I was dipping. Way too squishy for me.
