Open and beautiful. I spotted a coyote in the distance, so I canceled the hike with my dog. Guess the land I’ve reduced volume of visitors so wild animals roaming around more often. However it was truly beautiful.
It was great but a few things. It was especially harder because we went in the summer time.We were a big group we made it to the top but we didn’t bring enough water.I recommend wearing boots for a couple of reasons. Better grip and stability if you put your strap your boots on tight. On the way down your toes won’t continuously get smashed into the front of your shoes. It was definitely hard for less experienced hikerI recommend going in the cooler season your not trying to beat the sun and you don’t have to bring so much water.
I wanted to get some pictures of the sunset. Perfect place to do it. Word of caution the park closes at 6 and the road going up there is narrow.
Open trail, well maintained but beware little shade cover... Bring lots of water! Various unique vantage points of Riverside.
Best place for trail runs. All the hills you can eat.
Great hike. My son and I complete the M trail. Was pretty difficult but not impossible. We made the mistake of starting late in the after noon and got really dark on us on the way down. Ran into some interesting critters.
Nice place to go for a hike and burn off some energy. Took my kids and went on the Edison trail. We saw a coyote close by on our trail and lots of donkeys. We have gone back 3 times now to do the other trails.
Steep hike. Great view.
I finally decided to take another trail other than the M. I was not disappointed.
Ive been here a few times and keep going back because its unreal to me that place like this could exist literally 3 miles from Riverside and Moreno valley. When youre up in the park its almost completely silent and youd think that youre way outside the city but you aint, which is pretty obvious when you see the views. February seems to be a good time to go; everything is getting green and its not too hot.Super dope place
Its really close to my friends house so when Im in the neighborhood I go for a quick hike. Theres always just a handful of people there, plenty of parking, and a toilet. Choose which way you wanna go and go.
Its really green and awesome!
Good place to get back in shape
This is a great place to get some exercise when time suddenly frees up, you need to save gas, or are on a schedule. I use its trails like a circuit when Im training for bigger hikes. There are also great wildflowers during the spring.
When I left the parking lot to hike, noticed a driver side car window broken out. When I returned from the hike, another cars driver side window was broken out. I think someone who lives nearby and can see that parking lot is breaking into the hikers cars to steal.
If you havent been here you must come. Beautiful sunrise
A beautiful view of the city, clean and quiet. Short and moderate hike, lots of rocks to take a rest on.
Nice but closes too soon.
Intense exercise but once u make it to the top it a very good experience
Beautiful place and we loved it here. I cant wait to go back. Parking closes at 6pm so you gotta get here early if you want to enjoy it.
The only issue is getting around the train tracks to go up the mountain. Either climb over the fence down by Big Springs or cut up off of Mt Vernon and go around. Lots of wildflowers this spring so check them out before it gets too hot!
Is a beautiful place.
Love it alot of trails you can do and the plus side we got to see donkeys they are so cute and dont bother you at all I love it here
This place is so beautiful on a day like today! There is public parking and marked trails. I reccomend staying on the marked trails or you could literally find yourself between a rock and a hard place.
Beautiful. Wouldnt recommend it on a rainy day but on a sunny day its gorgeous.
Great place to hike with friends and family. Depending on which trail you take, you can get a great view over the city.
My favorite local hike. I go up Two Trees Trail from the Riverside side to the top by Pigeon pass. Its a great elevation gain. I have encountered Rattlers and Coyotes on this trail, and have been warned of Mt. Lion sightings as well.
Perfect get-away right in my own backyard. When I want time to clear my head, burn a few thousand calories and take in some awe inspiring views Box Springs Mountain in Moreno Valley never fails to deliver. With two base camps located on opposite ends of the compass there are multiple trail heads to all leading to the infamous M.This trek is popular enough to encounter other hikers from time to time with loosing the sense of self if you take a lone road.Nature is at your finger tips when you visit Box Springs Mountain.
Beautiful view from up there
I love this spot to hike. I always see wild donkeys and have come across coyotes a couple times... but they dont bother you. I havent seen any snakes on the path yet... just lots and lots of lizards. I have seen mountain lion paw prints before... but I havent ran across the mountain lion yet... thank goodness. There is a couple lookout points that people frequent... that area is very riddled in glass. So be careful for your dogs feet.
Many different trails to hike
Beautiful place to unwind and hike
Rocky and challenging, not for little kids
Best place to hike with friends and work mates
Green! Need a short get away that brings a bit of nature into your soul? Run around Box Springs for an uplifting time.
Great place to hike, great view!
Nice place for hiking. Awesome view of Riverside
Great experience as a Texan, what a hike experienced or not there’s beginner and experience trails
Cool to walk and get some fresh air and scenery
Beautiful area right outside of Riverside and Moreno Valley, California. In the spring, the mountain is green and the park is a very peaceful retreat with great views of the surrounding valleys. Drive slowly and watch for wildlife, including local wild burros.
Its great I love the place the only reason Im writing this Is to get my google level up so any way love you.
The view is probably the best in the inland empire
Very unique place
One of the best experience in my life, because God is good
Awesome place for a hike
Love coming here. Always a good time. Its never packed, sometimes I run into other people but they are always nice. The views of the university (UCR) and Riverside are awesome. There is a place for parking and a few different trails. I often visit on an extended lunch break just to get away from everything. Highly recommend a visit here.
Box Springs Mountain Park may be accessed from either Moreno Valley or Riverside. However, it is the Moreno Valley side of the Box Springs MP that offers really good hikes, bird watching, herds of wild burrow, mountain biking and more! At the Hidden Springs entrance to the park there is an equestrian watering station, picnic tables and a nice, easy 1 mile loop around the lower elevations of the park. The trail to reach the Moreno Valley M starts from here, too. But drive further up Pigeon Pass Road and it will literally lead you right into the main entrance of the park. From here you can hike the entire ridge of the Box Springs Mountains, enjoying the beautiful views of the valleys below.
Romantic and great out door senary and hiking with plenty of burning in the muscle as yr climbing those hills
Had Fun relaxing by the stream, cooling off.
Early mornings or else it is HOT. Awesome hike
Nice place to hike, there are flat trails & challenging slopes. Hours are daylight hours, usually 7am-6pm. Parking is $5 on the honor system.
Great hiking spot for beginners and theres a decent view of the city once you reach altitude
Best place to hike in Riverside with a number of trails to choose from.
Great trails had me feeling like I was on a stair master. Great workout and so peaceful and beautiful scenery.
Great place to hike for a decent challenge on a hot afternoon, definitely very minimal to no shade at all. Good scenery! Parking questionable, uninformative. Nice steep trails for a jog or hike.

Best view of Riverside that I know! Usually no one is ever here too! Downside is theres no shade before the top, and even the vegetation seems to struggle against the incredible heat. Well worth a visit if youre in the area, hike if youre in shape otherwise I think theres a road to drive up
One of the last few areas safe from Human Intervention, a beautiiful landscape in spring and a challenging hike in Summer
Primative facilities but adequate as a base to park and hike. Dirt lot parking, porta potty, trash can, a few tables, hitching post for horses, and water trough. No potable water. Beautiful views. Dry grasses in summer but nice in winter and spring when the rains green things up. Very quiet and peaceful. No camping. Just a nice wildlife preserve with easy to moderate hiking trails close to city.
We had time to kill and were looking for a picnic place. BOY, did we luck out! Keep an eye on your time, however, as we could have spent hours here and sit was, we almost missed out flight!Upon arriving (and driving up up up on a somewhat muddy road), we parked and watched a coyote playing and hunting in the field below the rock outcrops. We met some interesting elder women who shared our picnic table and enlightened us with history and stories. Otherwise, we had the park to ourselves. The setting was gorgeous and there were lots of trails calling us--but we had to get to the airport. I was sad not to have ad the opportunity for a hike. It looked excellent!I would HIGHLY recommend this gem of a park; the natural wildness and open space, rocky outcrops and good looking trails. You can stay as long or as short as your heart and time permits. And dont miss the Burro Crossing signs on the way to/fro the freeway.... on the way back we were stopped by two standing in the road who came to nuzzle our car windows. Then we suddenly noticed individuals and hearts in many of the open spaces, fields, yards and road sides right in town!!! (They animals were fun to see, but also sad that they are not really wild animals andI cant imagine there is enough food and habitat to sustain them properly.)
Nice place with plenty of parking. Different trails to walk and the rocks make for good spots to take pit stops along the way.
I love hiking here... Or even just parking in the shade and enjoying a picnic lunch. Its loads of fun to watch the burros munch on the grass. And the views are incredible. Fun for the whole family.
Pretty place
Nice place for a walk with the family. Just watch out for poop bombs.
Beautiful place to hike, walk the dogs. Lots of climbing trails
Great experience every time I am thankful to live close to this area. Camera though just make me feel not so nature like tho. But safety I guess.
Well maintained trails and amazing views from the ridge.
Cuidemosla...once is gone, no 2nd chance.
Burnt out and closed. Cant wait for it to grow back this spring. Thats why only 3 stars.
Great for star gazing
Nice views
Quiet and serene. Even had a run in with some local wildlife.
Its clean nice place hike and see the wild donkeys also open to public
I love this place... great way to recharge
Came out here for a hike and it was such a relaxing experiencce, we will definitely be coming back! The scenery was beautiful, great place to excersise!
My friends car got broken into.
Xc meet Corona girls and boys Team was bothe 2nd and both took first place as individual.
This place is awesome! Spectacular views and a nice hike. It is a little bit of a challenge if you are not used to hiking, kinda steep. But it is so worth it and beautiful!
This place is amazing during spring, great for a walk.
I know you probably should walk here at 1 in the morning, but was for more fun than I imagined
Great place to walk and ponder life. Im in pain.
Pretty, wildlife was cool. Needs more signs, unclear which path was supposed to be taken. We took the slightly overgrown path thinking it was the right way, then we ran into a dead end.
For years this has been a nice rural park within a Moreno Valley residential area and just across the street from Canyon Springs HS. It has great hilly trails--fun for hiking and running--to explore that reach to the peaks of the Box Springs mountains. Theres very little shade, but there is a parking area (for a fee), and a restroom, with a few benches and canopies. And sometimes you run into wild donkeys.
I love this place. So quiet and peaceful. Great hiking. Dogs love it here too. We have seen owls, coyote, rabbits and Donkeys...
Good view
Nice long drive
WILD DONKEYS. ENOUGH SAID.
Perfect view of
Beautiful scenery. Great view. Surprisingly quiet for being so near homes.Open spaces. Trails. 2 sets of gym equipment for toddlers and for older children. Picnic area with tables. Clean restrooms. Free parking on surrounding street.
I love coming here during the cooler months! I enjoy hiking here with or without the kids, we even got to take pictures in our own local poppy fields!
Fun place to go just make sure that you bring your $5 to put in the box for parking just because no ones looking doesnt mean you should not pay be a person of integrity because there are cameras that are watching you and they will send you a tickit in the mail for 100 bucks so just pay the first time you will enjoy the park and it is well worth it tons of secret things to find
Terrifying place to go at night, tons of stuff around, lots of trails. Would go again. Beware of huge rabbits
Love the burros
Beautiful scences...AAA+++
