Nice open space to stretch your legs. Variety of terrain suitable for hiking, horsebackriding, biking, and single tracks.
Day time or night time hikes or runs are fabulous on the hiking trail following the paved road up to the Rustic Canyon Golf Course. About a half mile past the course, you enter a pristine chaparral environment. The trail continues on for many miles taking either the high or bottom trail. Read the signs providing you with information about the canyon for a fuller enjoyment and trail blazing experience. Early mornings and late evenings provide for better wildlife sightings. There are two entrances, one on Campus Park Dr., and the second off Broadway. Bring you camera and watch out for rattle snakes and deeper into the canyon mountain lions. Never hike alone deeper into the canyon.
Nice course, wild donkeys and more!
My sister and I always take her German Shepherd out walking here and we love it. Quiet, serene trail runs parallel to a beautifully manicured golf course. Horse trail included. You feel like youre in the wilderness but youre really just right by Campus Park neighborhood. Easy trail to walk. Peaceful and aesthetically pleasing. Cops frequent this area so I feel it is safe and protected.
Awesome trails! Forget the city life by taking these nice hikes!
There was a ten mile loop but half of it was overgrown with mustard plant.
Go when the flowers are out! trails are a bit sandy. good for horses and bikes.
Love to ride there, but a lot of sand, could use some grading very dangerous.
Good star gazing
Well kept, good pace and when your finished they have good food.
Wonderful park and very clean air.
Trail is a fire road so its well maintained. No shade, direct sun the whole way so bring water. Lots of snakes out, saw a huge rattle snake right on the trail and three smaller snakes that werent rattle snakes.
Great golf course friendly people
Rustic canyon is a great golf course
Nice park and trials.
Great park if you love nature!
Nice trail for easy hiking in cool weather as there is no shade. Gentle grades and open country. Good parking lot.
Nice place, bring you a gallon of water.
I mt bike here weekly on average. I have a nice 75 minute loop with lots of fire road climbing and some single track downhill. Its not epic but great location.
The wild plants and flowers are really nice to look at!
Great for running, not terribly hilly, semi-shaded once you get past the golf course.
I love the bike trails through the nature. It seems to have become more sandy though. My wife asked why dont they have a paved bike trail :)
Our hike was after all our local recent 2017 rainfall and the hills are beautiful!! We started hiking at 9am and did a 5 mile loop with our dog pack.Although you can not hike past the sign at Happy Camp Canyon fence with dogs, the trail continues around the top of the ridge and back to parking area.Should be renamed though, not very happy if no dogs are allowed.Lots of greenery, but give it two months and it will be brown with a lot of foxtails. We had a nice hike.
Come by after a good rain to easily spot animal tracks. Come a week or two later and everything will be green with new growth.
I go for walks here just like I did as a kid.
Sandy like the beach and wildly overgrown...not great for mtb at this time
This is a well used nature park, the trails are clean and well maintained, and they are relatively easy to go on. Its no Yosemite, but its a good local place to get outdoors.
Happy Camp gets 5 stars because for Moorpark, its the best of the best. If youre a hiker, outdoor runner, or nature enthusiast and live in Moorpark, there really isnt anything better. The trails here go on FOREVER if you keep going. But there are plenty of obvious places to turn around. Use All Trails app to get an offline map of the area where GPS still works with no cell service. It is really nice for seeing where you are and staying on trail when youre too far away from a cell tower. Be careful here, there are rattlesnakes. Theres a point where it says no dogs beyond. Ive seen plenty of dogs beyond that point though. Its a pretty flat trail until you get way back there. Not a lot of elevation for at least a few miles. To get there you take Happy Camp Canon Road. You park on the side of the golf course. Just head towards Rustic Canyon Golf Course, but right before their parking lot youll find a little dirt lot to the right. This is the trailhead parking. Theres also trail access from the West. This is by far the best trail in Moorpark.
Great local hiking spot.
Great place to ride!
Beautiful place and very well kept
Meandering trail starting by Rustic Cyn golf course. Not much shade but nice
Happy Camp is neither happy, nor a camp... Its a rural, arid grassland and steppe along a restricted dirt road where you may not camp overnight and where access by motor vehicles is not permitted. The hike during 3 seasons out of the year is hot, boring and features your basic Southern California endemic shrubs, grasses and invasive weeds. Also note that you may not take your dog with you into the Happy Camp area. If you do choose to hike in Happy Camp, bring plenty of water, snacks and proper clothing. Numerous rattlesnakes, coyotes, bobcat, deer and the occasional mountain lion can be found here, so enjoy and of course - be careful. Firearms and bows are not permitted, however for self-defense, you can bring pepper spray and I advise doing so, along with a fully charged cell phone.
Rustic Canyon golf course is in good shape and always challenging.
Looks good and i work in the ranch next ro it
Clean and beautiful
Great course.... Played so so.
Beautiful trail
I got a parking ticket there a couple years ago the sign wasnt posted very clearly and there was nothing to do there unless you have a horse to ride... parking lot was just dirt wasnt even paved!
Initially barren and boring, it soon gets much nicer, more trees, landscape
Great
Great
View from my backyard
Tranquil
I love Happy Camp!
Awesome golf course
Love this beautiful area!
Hah
Not a happy place. Nothing really to see except for a huge rattlesnake. No shade at all. This would be last on my list of places to hike. Never coming back.
