Staff is friendly, great price. Greens are eat up pretty bad but surprisingly roll decent (medium speed, not fast at all) - just repunched a couple it looked like. Flags are all red and the position flags on poles are not all accurate. Course holds water so it was cart path only today. Layout is both challenging and unique! Rough is tough and outside of that is death (right side, first photo) very high grass. Ill be back though!
Greens have been restored and roll better than any other greens in Montgomery. This course embodies the true meaning of golf and the layout makes every round unforgettable. Very well run establishment as well. Erik Vogler knows what he’s doing out there. Course is in better shape than many public courses now
The staff is courteous and knowledgeable. Had a good time.
Would be four or five stars if the greens were in half decent shape. 35 for a round is a great deal for this course when and if they fix the greens. Early May is prime golf season in Alabama, but this course was not in prime condition.
Greens are in terrible condition here. I suggest going to Aroostook golf course by the casino in Montgomery. They have the best greens by far around and they have great prices.
Good Times
Im from indpls, Indiana... The price point is great, the lay out of the course is very nice, the different tee boxes help to challenge all levels of golfer. The down fall for us today were the greens...they are in bad shape, it cld be because of chemicals mixture or something but should have been talked about by the front desk before the round instead of just taking the money. Hopefully the right person sees this and helps...indiana_golf_tips_101...IG
Awesome
CUT THE GRASS!!! Losing a ball 30 yards from the tee is not fun. You have a Byron Nelson course! It is already challenging for your better golfers. Make it fun for everyone else. The PGA TOUR aint coming.
Areas that were rough or just off fairway are now allowed to be nearly unplayable and weed infested. At $42, Cottonwood does not compare to Lagoon Park. Lagoon is a much better option although it can be crowded on Saturday mornings.
Great golf course, really nice group of people over there. Good prices and well kept course.
Tee to green great. Greens are dirt.
If you played Cottonwood more than 6 months ago and were not impressed, your criticism is probably accurate. However, as one reviewer noted, John Bell is one of the best there is when it comes to grass! I encourage anyone who had a bad experience to revisit Cottonwood. What John has done with the course is nothing short of remarkable. Cottonwood is one of the best layouts in Montgomery and is now in better shape than any public course in Montgomery.
Great shape right now. October 2018
I enjoy this course. I am a mid-handicaper and find it very challenging. The course is in good condition with the exception of the sand traps.
Hard a great time. Very friendly place
Just played today. Greens are awesome and traps have improved a lot since last fall.
Greens deseased, nice layout, nice fairway
Great course in the country, challenging, yet manageable..
This is the best shape I have ever seen this course.
Always come to the Jamey Johnson show lots of fun but this year the rain slow things down
Extremely disappointed with the policy regarding junior golfers.Junior golfers are the future of the sport and courses such as this. Seldom do I leave negative reviews but what happened today (02/24/2018) should be known. All week my 16 year old son and three friends (16, 15 & 15) planned to play golf Saturday. My son called several courses checking prices for junior golfers with and without carts. They had decided to play Aroostook due to their junior rates being less than the others (except Robert Trent Jones, more on that later). However, Aroostook has a tournament and the earliest tee time they could get was 2:30 PM. Next up was Cottonwood at $1 per hole per (walking), my son asking over the phone. One golfer planned to ride, three walk at $18. The rider paid what was quoted and is the standard weekend rate of $35.When they got to the course the attendant told my son the rate was not good for golfers at the school he attended and that they had to pay regular walking rates at $25.A junior rate should be a “junior rate”, regardless of the school he or she attends. In contrast, a junior golfer can buy a $10 Trail Card for the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. With that card a junior can walk 9 holes for $9 or 18 holes for $17 at all locations throughout the state. The condition of RTJ courses goes without saying.I encourage the administration at Cottonwood to review their junior golfer rates and policy. Not only are they losing business now, but for many years to come. Those four kids will remember what happened today and that will have an impact on where they choose to play, not only now but into their adulthood.
Great place to play. Great place to bring your kids to learn the game!
Played this course on 5/12/13 and it is horrible. Greens are full of complete dead spots. If it is green in the fairway it is a weed growing. Bermuda is still dormant/dead and just not very thick. Tee boxes are decent on most holes. You can forget about getting a good putt though. New owner just took over about a month ago (so I was told) and is supposedly going to fix it back up. He has work to do. Only cost $30 but its worth another $15 to go somewhere that you can actually take a divot out of grass and not dirt.
Good staff, Course needs a little work, Beware kids on golf carts
Ok golf course sand trap need sand rain has been plenty enoug to keep course in nice shape
The maintenance of the greens have improved. Best in years
Decent course. Nothing special...kind of on the pricey side. I would have rated a 4, but no military discount.
Nice course for the price and plays well for an average golfer
I know John Bell.... worked with/for him for years. If theres anyone who knows the business of golf and its maintenance - I know no one more resourceful!!
Golf course looking great.Road by the golf course today and my gosh it looks great.Course is back in great shape thanks to John Bell and his amazing dedication. Few people can turn a real PGA course around like hes done. If your a real golfer youll appreciate and understand the beauty of a Byron Nelson designed course that can test even the most talented. For a real challenge tee it up from the back. Most courses arent built with PGA aspirations. This one was and while it went through some tuf years its back close to being in flawless shape. If your wanting to play a great round of golf on a real course like the ones you see tour players playing on Sunday you should give it a try or if you played it in the last ten years you owe it to yourself to play it again now that its close to being in perfect shape.Over the years the course has hosted numerous professional and collegiate events, such as the Southeast Intercollegiate Championship, SEC College Championships, and Senior PGA tournaments. From Nicklas to the late great Payne Stewart this course has been admired, tested and appreciated by many legends of the game.
Great show with horrible weather but they kept playing!
In great shape.
Really enjoyed the music and golf.
Nice place
Greens are gone
Its much improved.
Great place!
The golf course look great
Beautiful course, in great shape!
Good course from what I hear.
Bunkers are finally catching up to the test of the course, what a challenge in golf. Porto shop is in need of merchandise and some of the volunteer help is very inadequate
Great course
Good course and staffs
Best course in Montgomery
Manager, while willing to work with you to accommodate your needs, is very rude while doing so.
