I visited during Covid in August and the museum was really closed, but there is a sculpture garden to one side and I was able to walk around that for free, plus theres one small circular gallery inside. Make sure to pick up a wristband at the gate, I had a lovely conversation with the lady there. Its not big but its a wonderful tactile experience. You can go in the woven hut things, you can walk on the spongy grass, and the gurgling fountain and pool really did it for me! In short, it was a lovely little art surprise and it made my day.
This museum has a calming atmosphere with something for anyone to enjoy - especially families with kids. The outdoor section is great for an afternoon with a nice and spacious exhibit indoors that features artists from the South. A great way to spend time in Montgomery if you’re ever visiting.
Good clean & quiet location. The outside is very inviting and the park area around it is very nice.
Love this park. Its a good place to read and meditate.
I love this museum. They offer art classes for the youth and also have a play like area on the inside for about ages 2-12 I guess. However my girls are 13 and 15 and we still Libre to go. Its located inside Shakespear park which is another plus. We live to go their and feed the birds.
Friendly staff. Practicing good social distancing and making, and the sculpture garden and a small indoor exhibit are open during quarantine
Love this museum! The art is always phenomenal, the kids area is super fun, and the events held there are really enjoyable too! Great for art enthusiasts and families alike!
Very nice and green surroundings. A good place to meditate and get some culture.Very interesting expositions.A section only for children.Perfect.
Today was our very first time going to this museum and we arent sure if were returning. There was a female security guard who followed us around the entire time and made us feel uncomfortable. She harassed us about our diaper bag and told us we couldnt have it with us. The guard in the front never mentioned we couldnt bring our diaper bag, only that we couldnt bring our stroller wagon. She was talking loudly on her phone and left her post plenty of times. Overall she was unprofessional and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. She didnt follow anyone else in the museum that was there with toddlers so, why were we followed? My wife and I werent touching anything or acting out of place. She was literally behind us at every turn we made. The male guards were nice and spoke to us. It got to the point we abruptly stopped browsing the art and just left. She needs to work on her people skills.
Hands-down one of the most beautiful places in Montgomery! They even have an area designated for kids that is so cool, and well thought out. Absolutely LOVE this place! :)
Beautiful place. But by the bridge where all the ducks are, there’s a white duck with a broken wing. I just wanted to point that out so someone can help it.

Attended the artist talk with Richard Mills this afternoon and it was very enjoyable and is a beautiful museum.

Outdoor veranda where you can feed huge Karp, ducks and turtles.Upscale cafe inside the museum.Gift shop as well.FREE admission and FREE parking.
Beautiful place to walk your dogs or feed the ducks. Plenty of trails along a beautiful scenic landscape. Great exhibits inside.
It’s a wonderful place to visit. Plenty of parking and the grounds are beautiful. We will definitely visit again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts today. There were nearly all styles of painting and expression there. I was impressed by the presence of three Rembrandts, several Thomas Hart Bentons, and other well-known and local artists from Alabama. I enjoyed the exploration of culture at the intersection of Art. Upstairs is a small collection of African traditional masks and art. There is quite a bit of spiritism connected with these masks and art. I highly recommend to visit to this spacious, bright, and beautiful Museum in Alabama.
I visited last spring. The activity room is great for children. Outside areas good for feeding the ducks. However, dont take my word for it check it out for yourselves.
Beautiful, spacious park. Perfect for picnicking. The art museum is great for all ages, complete with a kid play zone.
Great place, went with my 13 goddaughter and she enjoyed herself as well.
The kids love it, always a good time.
A great place for a weekend visit, especially to take your children too. Relaxing, fun and educational.
We had a great time at the childrens museum portion. Some updates to that area could be nice, but we had a great time anyway! We explored the fine arts as well and it peaked the interest of one of my children, so we will be back soon!
Really awesome permanent collection (from Impressionism and American Post-Impressionism through Hopper. Plenty of Alabama artists and other categories represented as well) and interesting traveling exhibits. Uncrowded. Lots to explore. Free We are definitely coming back to spend more time.
I’m guessing Thursday’s is “Be Prejudice Day”. Don’t take your kids here on Thursday if you’re black folks. Was watched the entire time, the fellow guest either moved far away from us or left the space we were in. We were told more hastily they were closed and then were basically followed while other guests were able to wrap up their playtime in a more calm fashion. Afterwards they preceded to follow and watch us, (rude attitudes all around). Came for Art and Playtime with the kids, and all I got was Attitude, Art, and Racism. I’ll be back though, just not on Thursdays.
Really cool stuff for adults and kids. ITS FREE! Perfect for a rainy day.
Took the grands on a Sunday Funday. It was a great place!
First and foremost, it was free to come here. It was also perfect for my whole family. There was an area for my children to play and explore and utilize many interactive displays. The outdoor sculpture garden was very unique and a great spot to visit on a sunny summer day.
Beautiful museum in a beautiful setting. It’s free to enter. The space is nice and open with some very nice installations. Be sure to venture outside to the sculpture garden. The museum is in Blount park so it’s also nice to park and walk the grounds. I highly recommend a visit.
This place is still great! We took our children there when they were younger. Now our grandson was introduced to the museum, they will return when they visit again.
Good art and garden art. Bring the kids every week, not to play but to learn and appreciate. So nice of the city to give its people this privilege for free
FREE! Excellent kids part! Truly an adventure! Great outside art!
A wonderful outing for a HOT Alabama Autumn
Very unique and serene
Superb array of American art in various styles and mediums
Great multimedia exhibits
Beautiful place!! Love that you can go into the Museum even on Sunday!!
Gorgeous art with calm and serene surroundings for proper enjoyment. Glad there’s also a kids’ section. Nieces and nephews enjoy it very much. Keeps them busy and focused.
Abundant art pieces, silent atmosphere
I love bringing my students here for a guided tour. They learn something new each time. Afterwards, walk the park or have a bite to eat at one of the restaurants.
Enjoyed a casual walk through this collection of impressive works. Great jazz band playing while in attendance added to the atmosphere. Excellent Art Works childrens interactive section.
Vann 2020 was held at the Museum this evening. Great setting for a night of celebrity Opera stars.
Never been there and loved it!
I went to feed the geese, ducks, sea gulls and 3 FT long fish. It was great.
Sometimes the displays are nice but they stay away too long and you can see some of the same stuff A year later. They need to change out their artwork more frequently
This museum is small and has a limited number of exhibits. The grounds are beautiful and with a visit.
It was a pretty place to spend the whole day! We only went for a few hours. Missed alot but the pple that worked there gave us a tour and told us about everything. !
This place is constantly changing, updated, remodeling, and moving. Its always a new experience. I love all of the new things coming. I love having a nice, clean, relaxing place to go and relax, walk, and enjoy art work.
Wonderful museum. Lots of variety and a beautiful setting.
Love this place. Its so nice and quiet and I love looking at all the art . Even from the kids.
Went to their fall fest. My grandsons had a great time! Very friendly volunteers, especially the volunteer coordinator.
It was amazing
Nice place actully have picassos here
I went to do my hour walk. It was great, I even took a selfie with sun directly in my face.
Love this place!! My daughter is exposed to so much art and culture.
Great place for family. I would recommend one to visit the museum with kids and young adults to expose them to the arts and humanities.
Many wonderful things for the children to do. Relaxing and fun for adults too. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Great family oriented place. Great artwork.
It’s so nice to have a free fine arts museum in town. There is a great kids area in the museum with lots of interactive games and and activities. There is an original Charlie Russell and some cool sculptures. The pond in front is full of turtles which the kids had a lot of fun feeding bread to. The museum is part of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival complex which has two big ponds and lots of walking paths.
This museum is very nice and there isnt a fee to enter. They accept donations. I went here on a date and the exhibits were wonderful! The gift shop also had lots of items to choose from. There is a nice cafe, but go online or call to verify the hours. There is a childrens section so your little ones will enjoy themselves as well. The museum offers art classes and activities for kids! Hope you enjoy your visit!
Great museum is well worth finding. Its set inside a park that has great paths to jog on. There were sculptures outside around the museum with descriptions inside the museum if you wished to view them from the large windows. Attached to the main museum is a childrens interactive musuem. It teaches them the different styles of art.The hallway that connects them to the main museum has students art from various schools. The museum itself is 2 stories and very large as well as spacious. You can easily spend 2 or more hours enjoying the various types of art.
Something to do and its free..
As usual the exhibits were wonderful. Also the setting in the park makes visiting the museum a lovely experience
Very nice museum, good way to spend a quiet weekend afternoon. Enjoyed the exhibits, the location is also very nice. Staff was helpful. I guess the one negative would be, the gift shop closed before the museum did,so I missed visiting the giftshop, after viewing the exhibits. I will go back when I am in the area again.
I visited recently to view the Friant art exhibit. To my surprise I was there when they had a jazz fest which they apparently have every 2nd Sunday.
Im so thankful people help preserve the land, arts and everything in the museum represented. Such a wonderful place.
Went last night to the Quarto Arod world class string quartet and it was amazing. The Montgomery Chamber Music Organization holds around 4 of these a year starting in the fall. I highly recommend them. One of the best kept secrets of Montgomery!Tonight (Nov 15) the MMFA hosted an Artist Market. There were about 30 artists showing and selling their art. There were artists who made jewelery, paintings, wood art, textiles, and rock carving. I especially liked the rock carving by Brooks Barrow. He had carvings made from a variety of stones, such as limestone, marble, and others. Some of the most beautiful pieces were made from Alabama marble. The market continues tomorrow. If you go, make sure to stop by and see Brooks unique art.
Always love this place. Such a beautiful atmosphere
MMFA is a wonderful, family friendly museum!
Needed a place to burn a couple of hours during a recent road trip and after some google searching we found this museum. It was very nice and everyone was very friendly. Kids really enjoyed the kids area. Well worth the price of free!!
Our family love this place, every week there have events, sometime free...
A nice selection of art and a fun area for the kids to get creative.
My first time being here, we were on Spring Break but anyway I really enjoyed this place. There were a lot of things to see and the guards and staff were awesome and friendly.. Even though the guard that me and my family had talked to us half to death and showed us where to go and he even made us laughed we really enjoyed ourselves that day... LOL
It was a great place. Beautiful art works. A good place for a family to visit.
Nice quick stop. My favorite is the kids interactive area
My kids and I always enjoy going to the museum. The kids area is perfect and just what we need for overly hot days during summer break!
Fun kids area. Nice artwork. Outside is a fun place to picnic and walk around the fish pond.
Beautiful place to visit that doesnt cost anything. It is a fun place for everyone. They have all different types of art, and they are almost done with the new outside garden. They have different pieces that come in for limited amounts of time, so you usually see new things every time you visit. There is a separate place just for the kids where they can interact with all kinds of things. The outside is a great place to take pictures and interact with the ducks.
Unexpected gem in Montgomery. Entrance is free. The artwork is beautiful and everyone is very friendly. The blown glass exhibit was brilliant as well as the sculpture garden. A must see!
This is a beautiful place for events
Great collection of painted art and glass works. Complete sets of 17th and 18th Century china table service are amazing
Very cool spot! The new outdoor garden is great!
If I end up in Alabama again I will be back for sure!
Located in Alabama Shakespeare Festival (some people call it the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park), its one of the only places to appreciate mutiple forms of artwork in the city. Admission and parking are completely free, but donations are welcome. They have new exhibits regularly and even display local artworks. The museum has a cafe, a store, and even a kids area. Check out their website if planning a trip, or you can just swing by. Usually open 10am- 5pm, 12am-5pm on Sunday, and CLOSED ON ALL MONDAYS and Holidays.
I walked there in the humidity and it was a nice cool and pleasant museum. I was curious to see more historical art, maybe Antebellum Alabama. There was Voting happening while I was there. T/he staff were friendly and welcoming. There is a pond outside and people were feeding turtles.
This is a fabulous FREE Museum set in a large park with lots of trails for walking and a large dog park. We highly recommend a visit to this very well done museum.
Beautiful Gardens and Art!
Absolutely Amazing! My baby has artwork there! I loved the performances and artwork by all of the kids
Beautiful place,u can even feed the ducks, jus bring some bread, its fun
Low-key. Clean. Relaxing. Far from the center of the city, but, great place to relax, especially given the surrounding green space.
My 3yr old daughter loved the kids interactive art part of the museum and I just loved the set up and flow of the galleries will be bringing my oldest children here next time we come to ally to visit family.
Great family Entertainment, highly recommend to friends and family.
