Only the outdoor tours are available. They’re $15 per person. The docent was knowledgeable and friendly. The tour lasts about 2.5 hours. Be prepared to walk and stand a lot. The winds were really strong when I was there this past week. The buildings are still being renovated in the inside so there’s no much to see - the value of the tour comes from the docent’s information. There’s two Porta potties at ground level and another two at the top (cleaner than usual). Make sure you show up at the gate early. I showed up 30 min before the start time and was still one of the last in line.
Its a unique experience along the coast highway. We were there on Wednesday morning, queued on 9:45, the park ranger closed the gate as soon as no more car waiting, so you dont wanna have the traffic jam. Its the guided tour by two volunteers. They divided us into two groups of around 13 of each. Slowly walking towards the top with experienced stories shared with us. They will charge $12 per person after the tour, which I think its lowest price for a nice guided tour. You also have the chance to buy some souvenir on the top. They will escort everyone out together after 2 and half hour tour.
The park is closed. The website does not say that, and a local employee says it hasnt been open so nice he worked there. You can see it from the road, absolutely stunning, but access to climb or drive up could be mind blowing. See my pictures.
Beautiful view, its nice to watch and hear the waves hitting the rocks!
Very nice park for walking and climbing Beautiful sea view
The tour was amazing! Incredibly informative and fun. It is a little bit long (2.5-3 hours). It would be nice if they had an abbreviated tour for folks with limited time.
A visually striking place. Beautiful water and gorgeous landscapes
The 3-hour Lighthouse docent tour was well worth the time. Learned a lot about regional maritime history. Also saw falcons, otter, and sea lions.
An outstanding (literally) destination, worth the additional physical and organizational effort to access. Rich history, architecture, and breathtaking land/seascapes. A unique location with dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers. There really is nothing like it.
A great place with a lot of history. Go on a tour if you can - its great value for money with some amazing volunteer tour guides. One of the best stops on highway 1.
Very cool and windy place. Tour guide told me it was so windy they had to tie the chickens down to prevent them from being blown off the top of the Rock. I have not been able to confirm that information but its kind of cool and funny.
I love this rock! Its a magical place. Highly recommended.
The Point Sur light station sits perched on a volcanic rock, dutifully warning nearby ships that the Pacific’s treacherous coast approaches. Despite its powerful beam, the Point Sur lighthouse has witnessed its share of shipwrecks. Its really a spot gem.****
From a distance, the penninsula looks beautiful.
Nice view. You have to check the schedule first
The walk up offers great views of the coastline and the mountain. In early March, we spotted five whales en route to their northbound migration.Check the open hours in one of the photos posted in the lightstation.
Despite not being able to get in, even from afar the site looks magical. You cannot beat the location and totally worth the drive if only to watch the sunset.
Great spot to soak in the scenery and experience the Pacific.
The lighthouse tour is adorably lo-fi (spoiler: its knowledgable volunteer guides talking with a binder of old photos) but its worth the afternoon.
Make sure you have 3 hours to spend, a good jacket and a camera. You need to arrive on time (we did the 10am tour on Saturday) because the gate is closed and they will open it for 10mn. We were about 20 people, who got split in two groups. The volunteer was very knowledgable and eager to share stories. Not only youll learn stuff on the lighthouse or Point Sur in general, youll get stories about World War II, Zeppelins, lenses and what not. When reaching the top, the view on Highway 1 and the coast is breathtaking.
What I liked the most is the knowledge and assistance provided by this wonderful group of volunteers
Have always wanted to go on this tour and was not disappointed.
Definitely worth a stop
Very well maintained...
Gorgeous! Walk is informative. Views cant be beat.
Amazing views of the central coast. Interesting history
Entrance was closed, no entry unless with a tour. Cannot just stop by on your way down the road.
Its haunted by a little girl
Wonderful experience
Must stop point on CA1
Nice place.
