Great staff and a large protected parking lot with half of the spots inside a parking garage. There is nothing else on that stretch of beach so theres a real feeling of seclusion, even though town is just on the other side of Hwy 1.

What made this place extra special was the heat wave that passed through the weekend in the valley - so the beach was perfect for us - clear skies all day and night with Temps in 70-80s. Water was also tolerable to jump into and made it a lot of fun. Stepping down from the hotel directly on to the sand and seeing tretches of beach in both directions is great. Hotel location is just exactly what we wanted, and we reserved a west facing room. The porches/balconies are great to stare out into the ocean and to the left in the near distance is Monterey. Looking out to the ocean in the morning and even seeing dolphins swimming by was amazing. Pelicans and birds liven up the sea. Room is modern, updated and clean - it is no luxury suite but we did not even pay near $300/night. At this range and for the wonderful location, it was well worth it. We were on the first floor with ocean view and were able to pull out our chairs to the little porch to enjoy the view. We took several walks up and down the beach and also went for an easy hike on the trail along the beach.The beaches & public parking lots were closed for the holiday weekend although people can still do water activities - so we still ended up on the beach most of the time. Cant imagine how crowded it would be otherwise...We did not dine at their restaurant or order drinks. The outside decks were blocked due to Covid19. They also only do room service every 4th day. The day we left though it was back to being the norm with overcast skies and a chilly breeze.

I love Monterey Tides Hotel. I have been coming to this Hotel for more than twenty years . Each time I have a fantastic time. This the only hotel right on the beach in the area . Really nice beach very clean. The views are breathtaking of the entire Monterey bay. I am a photographer and I have lots of pics of the beach from the hotel and my bay view from my Room. I come here often .The Hotel Staff are very Professional and nice. The front desk staff is very nice i have known Vivian for at least 20 yrs always a pleasure to see her. I met Sheevani in January of this year and she checked me in last week very nice and helpful. Hope on the night shift was very helpful and pleasant . I will be back soon. No hot water. Plumbing issue that they promised to fix tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, I wonder???? They did tell me before check in. Luckily I was able to get in elsewhere, but I will miss ocean.

Love this place! The fact that it was right on the ocean is perfect since it allowed to visit the beach multiple times throughout the day. I will be coming back!

It was a lovely place to stay. There are some amenities that are unavailable due to COVID-19 but still a good place to get away. I went there to work for a week. It was dog friendly. Quiet and the location for beach goers was awesome. Close access to Seaside and Monterey. Thumbs up.

This hotel was nothing like the picture yes the view beautiful but only when your walking in to book the hotel. When we went to our room it just smelled and just did not feel like a cozy place to stay. This place need a major update on there rooms. Lucky for me my brother owns an Airbnb so I got to stay with him. But I wanted the whole sea view from my room and that wasn’t even enough to make me stay.

Paid $309 a night for a room with parking lot view, no coffee pot, had bug bites from the bed, you can hear upstairs toilet, water etc. Yes hotel is next to the ocean but thats about it and when you go down the beach area its dirty, ghetto wall, people smoking pot, etc. We didnt feel safe at all. $30+ resort fee and its closed so more like $30 for a parking lot that you can park in the street for free. Stay at Embassy Suite (just across) and walk or park at Seaside Beach.

Views are priceless, room is too small, but cozy and clean. It had a mini fridge!!!! Priceless.The corridors are way too old looking, they need an update!

This was nice trip.....took family pictures for our Christmas cards. Beautiful sunset....a little cold, but still nice.

At this hotel, you are absolutely paying for the location. The rooms are not fancy, but they are comfortable. They have a small fridge, but thats basically it. The beds are comfortable enough to sleep in, and things are clean. I have paid much less for much nicer rooms. However, the location is unbeatable. Being right on the beach is so convenient, especially with children. The beach is not over crowded, and it was easy to stay away from others, which is important during social distancing mandates. We were able to go up to our room to shower after swimming and playing in the sand, and then come back down to have a bonfire. The front desk even gave us some skewers at no additional cost. We appreciated the lifeguard on duty, and the accommodating hotel staff. My only real complaint is that the WiFi is terrible. We will definitely be back.

Just got done eating at that place and it was absolutely delicious! We had a Steak Burrito and some French Toasties! The waiter was so friendly and kind and just damn excellent he even gave us a little heater (we chose the outdoor dining) thank you waiter!

If youre thinking of booking one of the expensive rooms, know this: theyre identical except for the views. We paid $450 to get a room I would expect to cost $100 most places, except for the awesome beach location and gorgeous view. So think hard about if that view is worth an extra $200/night!COVID updates:- it was easy to maintain distance the whole time- the pool was closed- grill and restaurant hours seem to be significantly reduced

If you ever want the ocean to put you to stay here. My room faced the ocean and I recorded the sound from my room and sent it to friends back home. They could not believe that my room was that close. When I walked downstairs I was on the actual beach! Although the restaurant was close, they did have take out. The food was really excellent and they made better coffee drinks than Starbucks. Will most definitely stay there again.

Conflicted here.The grounds of this resort are beautiful. Who wouldnt want to wake up to the ocean every day?The rooms are small but very nicely decorated.States they are pet friendly which is nice, but only one patch of grass on a slight hill.We called the front desk 3 times, noone picked up any of those times.Overall we had a nice stay!

Hotel was not fully operable because of covid19, the restaurants were only opened Fri-Sun, made zero sense to me, pool/hot tub closed, towels were very old and very rough. Room was not too bad, but hotel needs a makeover for sure. Whenever we needed something we called the front desk, they answered and assisted very quickly. The location was the best hands down!

The lobby is beautiful. The rooms not so much. We really wanted to like this place. The rooms look very aged and while a face-lift was attempted, we checked out a day early because we were that unhappy. Beautiful view if you dont care about the accommodation. Right on the water but just not for us.

Great place to enjoy the sand, ocean and sunset views. It is not a fancy hotel, rooms are basic. I lowered my rating because the common areas were not sufficiently cleaned, and there was trash visible in a number of places (parking lots, hallways).

We stayed here with our dog & absolutely loved the fantastic customer service from all of the staff, especially Vivian in the front office! We also liked the hotel layout, convenient parking, amazing beach & bar view. Plus, the room was very clean. Well definitely be back!

Its lovely having a beach right outside of your door. Covid is making it different, but the hotel staff are doing all they can to make your stay comfortable.

The location is the best. The rooms are fine, clean but small and older. They dont answer room service. We called 4 times both days and left messages and never got new towels until we went to the front desk. They dont even answer the emergency line lol. They dont service the rooms so there is trash left outside a lot. Check out is 11am but check in is 4pm so that is annoying.

Its a beautiful place! The problem we had was the toilet got clog and we waited for maintenance for over one hour. Contacted the front desk a couple of times before someone showed up to unclog the toilet. Overall the experience at Monterey Tides was great!

Rooms were nice but small. Staff could have been a lot more accommodating since the staff is in the hospitality industry.

Way overpriced for poor/outdated in room amenities. The rooms feel like an old motel room with new paint. Rooms are slightly dirty. The doors are old and chipping/peeling and were then covered with newer paint. Walls chipping. Lighting is extremely dim like you’re in an old whiskey saloon. Beds are old and spring-y. You better hope you have a room facing the ocean (evens) or you’re facing a loud highway. Proceed with caution. Additional $30 to park/WiFi a night. All I’m saying is price does not match what you get.

I dont know why there is such a dramatic change in quality from there ocean view room to there pool view rooms. Or pool view room was easy to access but I would of rather paid $50 down there street for a room if the same quality

I give this place No stars this is the most horrifying experience I ever had this hotel is so bad it reminded me of the movie The Shining where everybody in the hotel is there to kill you the whole experience was a Nightmare we only lasted as long as it took us to find dirty ugly Rundown king size bed Ocean View lying hotel room we booked online I am so glad that my in-laws have very good connections at the Peppermill in Reno we had a room with a jacuzzi with a greate view clean room clean bed nothing falling apart the only reason why it has one star is so it can allow me to the next part of the review

We absolutely loved staying at Monterey Tides despite the visit being during Covid-19 (fathers day weekend). It was our first visit since the lock down began, and between the awesome people, the great location, and being right on the beach, it was fantastic!!!

Got this hotel for a steal on the fly. Excellent views in the morning, right on the beach. Although it may get a little noisy if it’s high tied, it annoyed me a little as I was going to sleep but it was worth it with the stealer view the next morning.

The stay itself was great, perfect location on the beach. However, my credit cards keeps getting charged by Monterey Tides even though I had already paid the resort fees and the booking in full. Still waiting on my almost $600 refund after speaking with the front desk twice.

Have been coming to this hotel for years. Since it was a Best Western. The rooms are more vibrant now. Ocean view rooms can be a good $50 more per night than garden view rooms. Worth the cost for the view and crashing waves if that is what you seek in a getaway. But, since the rooms are small and again the hotel is right on the beach. You really cant go wrong with a garden view or inland room.Common areas like the swimming pool have been upgraded. Because of COVID-19 the hotel restaurant is currently closed. You can still have dinner by the pool each evening. The food continues great. But manage your expectations because the hotel appears to be doing the best it can with folding chairs snd outdoor patio tables.With Monterey Tides what you are really paying for is the immediate beach access.Monterey Tides manages the beach area in front of the hotel. So hotel guests are able to make bonefires on the beach. As of August 2020 you could see a good dozen plus bonfires on a nightly bases starting from dusk to past midnight. A box of wood bought from Home Depot (Hotel isnt currently selling bonfire kits as in the past) will last you a good 1 1/2 hours.Finally, a bike/ running path connects Monterey Tides to the Wharf and Cannery Row. So bring your bike(s) and enjoy.

We recently stayed in a Partial Ocean View room at Monterey Tides in Monterey late March 2019.Our overall impression of the hotel itself was clean and well located. The room was lovely, we had an amazing view and was well positioned on the ground floor with a short walk down to the beach.The only issue if you are a light sleeper is the sound of the sea is quite loud, you get used to it and fall in love with the sound.We also dined in the restaurant which understandably has a mostly fish based menu. The restaurant was on the top floor of the hotel and had amazing views of the sunset over the sea, would highly recommend visiting the restaurant for sunset.We loved staying here and would certainly come back.

Loved the view but the room was a disappointment.. dark gloomy room and behind the dresser hadnt been cleaned in a long time!!!! Will not go back even with the gorgeous view not worth the money!!!!

The only good thing about our visit was the beach. All extra amenities were closed yet you are charged $30 per room for resort fees. This is no where near a resort. 1 room had half roll of toilet paper and when we called we were told we could not get any until 9am. Unless you are staying here for a quick stop I would not recommend for a family get away because we were not impressed.

This hotel has gone down hill. Trash piles up on the outside garbage cans. People are smoking marijuana on the walkways outside other peoples rooms. The kitchen has some new simplified menu that the front desk did not let us know about. The website is behind and showes outdated information. Some things like not servicing rooms I get due to COVID-19, but the over all standards have become no better than a Motel 6. The only reason they get away with the rates they charge is the location, otherwise I would not book here.

The view from our room was amazing! The room was clean and the service was very friendly. Though all of the covid stuff was going on and masks were required while in the hotel, we were still able to get some great espresso in the morning and walk the beach (mask optional). Its a short drive to beautiful Carmel-by-the-sea.

This hotel is okay, but not great. Its right next to the beach, which is nice. However, the pictures online made the place look nicer that what it really looks like. Also, there was an unspoken $30 daily resort fee for parking; that was not a pleasant surprise. I think I wouldnt be so unsatisfied if it wasnt so expensive. All employees were professional and friendly. In short, its overpriced and not worth the money.

There is no microwave we had children with items to eat that we couldnt warm up nowhere in the place it was small they charged for parking they charge for things that were not used the staff was rude there was a man in the room with a clipboard b4 we checked out the refrigerator didnt work we lost a load of purchased food I would never return here!!

We were charged a $33.54 per night resort fee while the pool, restaurants, bar, fitness room, virtually EVERYTHING was closed. I understand that it was due to Covid however, its not right to charge guests for amenities that they cant use! Also, the cleanliness of the room was NOT up to par and we didnt receive maid service, not even a change of towels! Dust caked all over the exhaust fan cover in the bathroom, cigarette butts everywhere. Overflowing garbage receptacles. It was pretty disgusting!Very disappointing! We wont go back!

No toilet paper in room, no outdoor chairs on patio (as advertised ) as is beach front. I assume that this is to prevent congregating, as an adult i think i can assess the risk in this. I was looking forward to this very thing and that is why i spent a small fortune on a beach front room. Over priced coffee on 4th floor, no coffee in room, no microwave in the room. Ill spent my $350 trying some other lodging next time.

Save your money. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the location and you can park for free in the hotel lot and just go to the beach. They say they will tow none hotel guests but as recent guests of the hotel who had NO PARKING every might because of random beach goers, I can say this isnt true. Sure, we came during covid, when their services are diminished but the entire property is in disarray, they never clean the rooms and offer ZERO amenities, all while still charging upwards of $300/night. Its a glorified motel. Either save your money and book cheaply somewhere else (like an actual motel) or splurge on better hotels in Carmel off of the beach. Monterey Tides is not worth it.

We had an okay stay, pretty sad that most of the things were closed because of Covid-19. A few downsides are that the Air Conditioner is very loud in the rooms, not many lights in the rooms, and the beach is very dirty, not cleaned up very often, so especially during Covid-19 I wouldnt go again. Maybe after when the pool, bikes and paddle rents are open. But it wasnt that bad. Not worth the price though.

The place looks nothing like the pictures. Customer service is horrible. But the view is amazing. If you want a decent priced hotel with amazing views but horrible everything else, this is the place.

Motel 6 on the coast:There are hardly any room amenities, definitely not worth $300 a night.No coffee maker, microwave, bar of soap the size of my thumb, old carpets, lazy caulk jobs, no breakfast, coffee, tea, nothing fancy at all.Front desk staff are hit or miss, usually good in person and 50-50 on the phone. The door wont shut without getting slammed and wont open without adult force.If a fire broke out and my baby was inside...It is undeniable that the ocean views, and beach access are priceless to the point that the 17 mile drive felt useless.Thats why we had to come again, but some things need to be changed.

The oceanside room was just a basic Super 8 motel room, and its clear theyre struggling to keep up the maintenance on the place, and it cost us almost $400 per night. Well stay at a nicer hotel, next time, and play at the public beach thats adjacent to the hotel, next time.

1st Ill say I was so impressed with the staff. We went for my sons birthday and I left a note when we booked that the trip was for his birthday since COVID wouldnt allow for a party. They surprised him with cake, a sweatshirt, beach toys and a stuffed animal. WAY more than I was expecting. We did cut our trip short as the beds were too uncomfortable for us. My husband has had 4 back surgeries and I am pregnant so we both woke up in pain. However, we said that at check out and they discounted our rate for us. Overall pleasant experience. I did expect the room furniture to be slightly nicer our dresser was falling apart and the toilet was leaking upon check in but we did have an ocean front room so our view was spectacular.

The views of the ocean here are great. The lobby is beautiful. The proximity to amenities is pretty decent as well. The rooms are outdated and need extensive work done. Our room wasn’t ready upon checking in either. Parking is a bit limited for hotel guests and they limit the amount of devices you can use for the internet but still seem to find a need to charge a $35 resort fee. Won’t be back here bottom line, as there are a ton of awesome and affordable places to stay in and around this area.

The only good thing is it’s on the beach. The only bad things was the rooms have a vary small bathroom. They do not have a microwave or coffee machine in the rooms. You have to go up to the front bar to buy coffee.

The website photos are deceptive, it’s definitely not a luxury experience. The view is nice but keep in mind that there is a walkway between you and the ocean so everyone walking by can see into your room if you open the curtains. The room decor is lipstick on a pig. The mini-fridge froze everything, the lighting felt like a morgue and the walls between rooms are thin. With taxes I paid about $400 per night. We came for our honeymoon. I thought I’d be waking up to the sound and view of the ocean but instead I got kids running and screaming by the window and the steady pounding of a pressure washer outside the room at 8am. Not horrible but not worth the price.

Beach is right there, staff is friendly and the food was great. Love this place!

I found myself missing the ocean,we used too live in Arcata Humbolt county.It was excellent.I caught myself taking a road trip to monterey bay where Ive never been to,and it was wonderful,and the fact that one of deepest trenches in the world was there.It was cool .

Location is amazing ! Private beach feel and lots of fun stuff for families to do. I visited the hotel before the remodel now after the remodel and I think they did a half way decent job with the remodel but kind of sloppy not as clean as I would like to have had it and the people in the room next to me were smoking pot all night long so my clothes smell like weed when I went to work however the food at the restaurant is fabulous the staff is very friendly and I would recommend the hotel even though we did find a sock in our room when we checked in

No coffee or cups in the rooms and the rooms where not as shown in online pics nor was it clean. Not worth the price. Also if u ask for ocean view which is what makes the place interesting they charge an extra 60 dollars.

Super amazing views. Cant get any closer than this. Friendly staff, plenty of parking, we bought firewood to have a bonfire on the beach. We will be back again, and again, and again!!

During covid times things were busy and with short staffed services were still good. Just went to the front to ask for anything needed. Closed for breakfast, no coffee and no microwave around or in the room. The front desk gave us a list of places that deliver to the hotel. Ocean view was beautiful. Even though no bonfires were allowed we saw very many right by the beach.

So we stayed here for the first time a few weeks ago (10/9-13/2020) so where do I start?First off I booked my room about 6 months ago prior to us going, I had a king bed inland view and when I checked in I was given a queen inland which was an accessible room (if your not sure what that is it is handicap friendly)which wasn’t bad cause it was a bigger room then the normal room, although the mattress was BAD!! Second thing was that they charge you $20 a night for parking, which they never told me when I was checking in. Idk if they charged because I was there for 4 nights? So if you go here ask about that! Third thing is that the place is old !!meaning like furniture carpets showers etc....THIS PLACE WOULD BE SO LIT IF THEY JUST DID A COMPLETE MAKEOVER !! Yeah it might be pricey but people would still book cause of the location !! So back to the negative review, so when I was checking out I had told the front desk about how I was giving a downgrade and she was cool that she had comp’d my parking fee for this mistake.... but reading other reviews this over booking stuff happens quite a bit here!? So would I stay here again? IDK .... but I do recommend that if you do book here I say spend a little bit more $ for a ocean view WELL WORTH IT !!

Wanted to write a review to thank them. The staff went above and behind to find an area in their parking lot my husband could put his large fishing boat. Rooms were adequate, nothing special but clean & you can’t beat the view. They even put the tv remotes in plastic bags so they can dispose. Can’t wait to go back.

Great location on beach area. Food and drinks were great. Heated pool and wonderful decor. In room at night there is not adequate lighting. If more than one person get the 2 bed room. Single bed was super tight/small.

Can’t beat view, beach, anywhere for this price. Room small-beach-huge. Friendly staff, dog friendly, kid friendly but still romantic.

The rooms are antiquated, and leave a lot to be desired. This would a 2 if not for the great restuarant bar, and beach access.

No coffee maker in room, no plastic cups, we asked for housekeeping toPick up trash and fix non working shampoo,/body wash dispensers locked onto shower, they never came. They still charge resort fees when there is no resort amenities due to COVID.

The ocean is right outside your window; whats not to like? You can rent bikes here and ride to Fishermans Wharf. Lobby/bar is lively in the evenings. Rooms are clean and modern.

The only good thing about our stay here was the view. Which was very much paid for. Hotel staff were rude and they didn’t have coffee for the rooms. We went to the lobby to see if they had coffee there. We were very rudely told weekends only. Zero Hospitality!!There are other hotels to stay at here with equally great views. We will never stay here again and I highly recommend that no one waste there time or money

Horribly thin walls and they do not enforce noise curfew.Do not come here if you want to sleep.Pick another hotel in town, there are many more to choose from.

This place is great for a get away! The inland rooms are the best, as the ocean view rooms get a lot of wear and tear on them. My favorite inland view room was the king size that over looked the pool. The queen size ocean view room I had was in bad need of repair and remodel. The front desk was kind and gave me a discount off of the room. But for the price of the ocean view room, you get a better quality room and more bang for your buck with the inland view rooms. There are still plenty of other ways to get that beautiful ocean view. They have huge bay windows in the bar and restaurant, and there is a patio deck area with torches that give off heat to keep you warm. This place is the only one in the area that is right on the beach. It’s worth the stay!! The food is great, and so is the service.

It was very crowded cruising the coastline along hwy 1...all Vista view sites were filled with travelers. Taking pictures and admiring the wild waves. One of the pictures isnt in Monterey but along the hwy1 or coast hwy I.

The rooms are definitely below expectations. They are along the lines of a $120 traveller hotel. 2 queen beds, clean enough, tiny bathroom and thats about it.The cost for the room is not really the deal, though. If you can look past that (rooms are pricey), the beach is outstanding. Probably the kids favorite this trip (LA to SF).Is it worth it? Ehh... I dont know if wed do it again, just because of the cost vs room, but the beach was amazing.

The lobby was nice. That was it! We were on the 1st floor inland view, dingy, musty, moldy smell, floor was disgusting, dark. My kids called it a dungeon! Maybe top floor facing the ocean would have been nice, but no dice!

Great oceanfront location. Make sure to get an oceanfront room as the other rooms are just okay. Pet-friendly which is great. Plus a scene of Big Little Lies was filmed here. #biglittlelies

Always been one of our favorite spots. Room amenities are lacking since covid. Pool, hot tub and restaurant was shut down.
