We tent camped here for 2 days, it was peaceful, the lake view here was beautiful. We went on the nature trails in the area and its well worth checking out, the restrooms were very clean, they had pop machines which only took cash, no card the only downside because I didnt bring cash. The sites are roomy and all have at least electricity, some are geared with electricity water and sewer, the showers were very clean and maintained. Over all a total win on this camping trip!!

Theres a beautiful spot for photos at the very end of the beach. The camping area and beach is nicer at the camping area. Better maintained than the public area. However the sand is poorly combed . I think they need updated rake and to clean it off a few times. People are nasty Ive seen several tampons in the sand.

The beach is beautiful, and there are so many interesting things to look at in and around the water. The sand is a bit gritty/sharp due to the shell fragments, so bring sandals or a decent towel to keep the grit down. Next time, were exploring the trails!

Its a pretty State park. Bonus points because the campground is effectively an island surrounded on one side by lagoons and marshland and the other by lake Erie. Im knocking a couple of points off because the campground is wide open, flat and effectively treeless. There are a cpl of scenic paved trails and a nice, newer playground. The beach is slightly rough on the feet but once you get out approx. 10 ft. into the lake the bottom is pure sand and stays relatively shallow for quite a ways!!!

This is a nice park beside the Lake Erie. There are lakeside beach, greeneries, wildlife, hiking trails, campgrounds. If you love nature, you would definitely love to be here. I visited in the month of May in high summer. It was hot but the water was cold and refreshing. The day was so hot that we loved to be in the water. There are enough parking lots, picnic benches etc. I would definitely go back. The state parkEntree fee was 9$ for a car ( day pass).

Camp here only if you like noise as there are no trees the noise just carries. We did receive a reminder from the park ranger to turn off all music at 10pm which seemed to work and allows you to be soothed to sleep by the sounds of the coal electric plant. But prepare yourself for all day loud music and hearing the sounds of everyone and everything around you, except nature. 1 star given as 0 was not an option.

The view of the lake is nice but very little effort made to clean the park. The beach has dead fish washed up all over, fish flies coating the buildings and vending machines, and the trash cans all over flowing. At least try to maintain the place?! Classic Park, however it is poorly maintained on the landscape side. Grass throughout the park wasnt mowed at it was the weekend. Many weeds throughout the parking lot and sidewalk ls gave a poorly maintained appearance. The bathrooms were clean, however smelled like you would expect. The Campground was rather large however nothing to brag about. No shade, again very poorly maintained landscape. The roads throughout looked in poor condition as well. Actually they just looked like much of Michigans other roads.Beach area was in good condition apt the time. Plenty of shoreline to set up for the day, with overall nice sand areas. The lake while not green with algie is just a resemblance of most of the Western shore line. Not clear water, a funny lake smell, however again not bad, just not like wow!Overall nice boat ramps at marina area, large parking lot with a fish cleaning station.

This is the third year in a row that we have camped at Sterling State Park. We have always loved it. We always get lots 86 and 87 for our large family because they are right across from the beach. I am a Store Manager and I totally understand the lack of employees that many businesses are dealing with right now. This is why 3 stars instead of 1. Our grass was not mowed prior to our arrival and our fire pit was more than half full of ash. In fact a lot of grass throughout the campground wasnt mowed and was nearing knee high height. I could deal with all that except it rained, stormed actually. There were ticks crawling up my tent trying to get out of the rain. I knocked about 8 of them off my tent from inside by smacking the tent walls while I was taking shelter. My son had a couple crawling up his tent during the same time. This is not cool and is totally unacceptable. Had the grass been mowed I believe I wouldnt have had this problem.

Some of the reviews I read indicated the park was dirty and smelled bad due to dead fish washing up on the shore. I didnt see any such issues. It was clean and odor free. I was however surprised by how small the park was considering the $9.00 entry fee for out of state folk. Other state parks Ive visited in Kansas & Texas were much much larger and had a lot more/better options/amenities. It was fine, just a little underwhelming.

Its one of the largest beaches on lake Erie. That being said, lake Erie is my least favorite of the great lakes. The beach oftentimes is largely made of broken shells, and there are seasons where fish wash up on shore during the summer. The facilities are in great condition, theres pavilions conviently located around the park with grills and playgrounds and some good fishing spots. Not a great place to travel to, but if youre local Im sure youll enjoy it.

Whats so wrong with me getting there early to get my spot only to be told I cant be there that early and I have to come back after the sun comes up...

On Tuesday August 27th 2019 I decided to walk from my hotel to the William C. Sterling State Park. I set out at about 430 p.m. and it was only 1.5 miles from my hotel. Having never been to a Michigan State Park so I was not sure what to expect. As soon as I turned down the road to the park. It was just a very peaceful and serene walk. I would recommend that if you choose to do the Nature Walk like I did that you wear bug spray and sunblock as you are right off Lake Erie. The park offers many views of the lake and also has a very unique and serene walking area. The park rangers and everyone was very nice. If you get a guide make sure you use your coupon at Burger King for free icee. Park was very clean and extremely well taking care of.

Sterling State Park states that dogs are not allowed at the beach, however in the past 10+ years ive been going there i have not gone to that beach one time without seeing dogs at the beach and in the water. This year they decided to enforce it. If its a rule all the time, enforce it all the time. If its your employees not enforcing it, fire them and hire better ones. If you dont have enough employees to enforce it, hire more. You cant enforce it to some but not to all. Get it together and do your job correctly.
