Got to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in a near perfect venue. Dinner was lovely. Cocktails were strong. Service was considerate and attentive. In the ensuing meet and greet with members of the band, my 14 year old got some sage advice. Wear a suit. Women love a man in a suit. Theyre also a lot more forgiving when youre wearing a suit. I salute these legends.

We came for our first time to Dakota Jazz Club for my husbands 42nd Birthday. The scenery was beautiful and the sounds of Jazz in the background were soothing. We came for dinner and Hannah was our server. She was Awesome. Such a sweetheart. She even sung Happy Birthday with me to my husband. She deserves her own s !!! I hope she working when we return. Our food was just the right spicy and flavorful tastes. My husband really enjoyed the Hen dinner and his top shelf Long Island. I had the Sausage and Shrimp dish. You have a lovely venue and we shall return again very soon, but next time for a show and dinner. Lovely and friendly staff, great music and tasty food.Heres another s Dakota !!!

A cozy, well thought out music venue with full bar and seating, and a full menu. Come see local and well know jazz acts and singers. Can easily make this a date night or fun group outing for something different to do in Downtown Minneapolis. Offers a large selection of wine, spirits and beers. Food menu isnt large but to be expected but quality is good and there are choices for dessert as well.

Great date night with nice atmosphere. We went for the 7:30 show. If you like to hang out and talk get there early (5:30 is when they let you in). Food was fantastic. I had a steak and my wife had the duck. Main plates arent huge so youll definitely want an appetizer in my opinion. But the main plates were absolutely amazing! Once the show is done, they switch the stage and you have to leave to make room for the 9;30 show guests. Something that wasnt exactly clear to me when I booked, but I totally understand. One more thing is that the service is just a little slow. But I believe thats how its designed. They arent bothering you the whole time you are watching the band/singer. Our waiter was kind and we had great service, just know its slower paced.

We have been to this venue several times. Very classy upscale spot. The set up can be crammed sometimes but the intimacy makes for a better live show in my opinion. We recently saw rahsaan patterson here. Great show...the prices are not bad and they have a full food menu. This place us great for a date night. The pictures will be of the outside of the venue that I post and in the daytime...just to give you an idea of where it. Is at downtown mpls.

Tickets were fairly priced. Fun little jazz band from New Orleans played. It was a great time. Good food as well. A little on the pricier side but thats to be expected in a fine dine establishment. I would go here again for sure. Drinks were good as well. They did have a happy hour. Seating upstairs and downstairs. We sat upstairs and had a difficult time seeing the band. Although, they had two televisions for us to watch the band on.

Classy jazz club in downtown Minneapolis. The food is just as good as the music. Prince played here 3 nights in a row back in 2013. I attended night 2, both shows! Prince would also attend concerts here in his free time. He sat a few tables from me at a Larry Graham show and he walked right in front of me on his way upstairs during a Victor Wooten show. I love this place.

Its cozy and intimate, but I thought it cramped. I felt a need to move around and wanted to holler and shout, but the confines throw a blanket of reserve that the crowd has to collectively throw off to really get down. In future, Ill get standing room or mezzanine. The site lines are great except for the seats off of stage right. The site lines from the bar are great as long as no one stops to look on their way to the bathroom. The sound is perfect. I like to not be too intentional about my threads. The folks in the cozy seats have a bit more effort going into their fashion than I care to exercise. Im thankful the Dakota is here and the love of the ownership and staff for the place is apparent as soon as you arrive.

6/21 @7 for Steve Tyrell. Love this closely environment. Services work on the floor are excellent. Scallops cooked perfectly, we had a good time making friends. One thing it ruin the night is the host. We check in at the front for the table tag, a white hair lady checking me out at the hair stand from head to toes for some reason, walk us to the booth said “here!” About 10 mins later, she walked back to us and started at us that “ those are not your seats, you 2 sit right here “ rolled her eyes and walked away shaking her head like crazy. It just a 4 people booth with no seat number. 10 mins later, 2 older lades showed up, while we were introducing ourselves, the host showed up again, she started yelling at them “ did you two check in yet? You don’t get to sit wherever you want ! Show me your the table number on your ticket They respond her “we did checked in and another host lead us here!” the host will raising her voice louder and louder! I can’t believe why is she yelling at a customers in this kind of manner! Before she walked away, she said “ oh, not everyone understand how this world work !” How she passed the job interview? She is unbelievably rude!

It’s sad to see anything but a five star review for the Dakota, which has brought world class jazz to downtown Minneapolis for years. Every time I’m in the Twin Cities, I stop by the iconic Dakota and get a dose of urban soul to help me survive living in Utah.Last night, Thanksgiving, the Dakota provided more meaning than ever. In honor of the true meaning of Thanksgiving, T. Mychal Rambo and friends provided “Songs of Gratitude” to raise money for the homeless. It was inspirational, uplifting, and an awakening to what this holiday should be about. The turkey and fixens were delicious also. We had a wonderful time, accompanied by our daughter and son in law. The music raised my spirits during this time of vitriolic polarization enveloping our country. I was glad to experience something vacuumed out of the culture in Utah. Passion, empathy, and soul are vital aspects of life, except in Utah. They just don’t get it.

I have been to the Dakota Jazz Club approximately 5 times thus far. My most recent time was on February 9th, 2018. The music lineup was The Accidentals, a young, Michigan-based trio playing alt-folk/rock music. The music was absolutely phenomenal! The service was excellent as well! I do understand the logic of the Dakota in terms of the music viewing aesthetic especially with the patrons they are targeting. It is really hard to be limited to your seat during a really up tempo music performance.

Review №72

Where to start... Dakota basically has a monopoly on some of the better music acts that come through Minnesota and they know it. The food is decent at best and for the price that is completely unacceptable, the acoustics of the venue again, decent, the seating is troublesome as you are buying a seat at a table that you will share with others unless you go with enough people to fill a table, on that note, hope that you dont get one of the bad seats like the one we had this evening which was right outside the kitchen. There are venues where there isnt a bad seat in the house and this is not one of those places. Bottom line is this is one of the only places in Minnesota where some musicians will perform for one reason or another and if you want to see them you will have to suffer through the experience that is the Dakota Jazz Club.
