Been here for years. Extremely knowledgeable staff. Great selections of fish and everything else you need. Reasonably priced. Very very clean. Awesome storefront appearance.
Super friendly and clean. No dead fish on display. Very knowledgeable and covid-19 safe!
So many greats things to say about this place #1 friendly educated staff with lots of experience #2 not over priced #3 great selection of healthy fish and plants! Also its family owned how can it get any better? My shrimp I got yesterday survived the water change! Will be returning.
I cant say enough good things about this place!! Their knowledge is abundant and they are so willing share to ensure your fish are healthy and happy. The selection of fish, plants and supplies and great. Its also a great place to go and see some really great/fun species of fish. They will also refill your empty containers for food and such to help reduce plastic consumption.
One of the few great aquarium stores in the cities. This is the only place I go for my fish supplies and advise. Oh yeah fish too.
Hard working knowledgeable staff. Even at the risk of losing sale they will offer advice against purchase if deemed not healthy for the animals. Large variety of fish and supplies. Even fun to take kids to see larger animals that are not for sale! Best local B&M Ive been to for aquarium needs in the metro to date.
Everything is over priced and the owner is extremely rude. I get theyre trying to make a profit, but this isnt how you do it. The working staff is fine and are attentive to customers. This was my 3rd time here.I was browsing their store a little over 30min and the owner comes up to me and asks me to leave if I wasnt going to buy anything. He said, Look man, youve been here for over an hour. If youre not going to buy anything and with covid going around and you aint got no mask, you need to hit the road.No where on the store does it say to wear a mask. No where on the store does it say a limit to browsing. No where is a sign to limit customers. I double checked. It only takes one bad interaction to loose a potential loyal customer.Ill take my business else where. Im disappointed in this business and its attitude towards other fish hobbyists. I wish them the best.
When a fish store has a LOT of tanks, it’s usually cool, because you have a huge selection. While that’s true for aqua land, they also don’t clean every tank and because they have so many, dead fish can be kept in tanks for up to a week. They also don’t seem to have a grasp on the fact that larger fish need larger tanks. I recently went there, and they had 5 blood parrot cichlids in a 20 gallon tank, while there was a 55 gallon right next to it that had some Jack Dempseys and a bichir. Instead of putting the parrots in the 55, they crammed them all into a 20 gallon. That’s just one of dozens of examples of poor fishkeeping. Avoid like the plague.
Highly recommended for fish, shop somewhere else for supplies. I used to love this place and used it as my sole fish supplies store. Helpful and friendly staff, but the best aspect is their broad selection of fish: saltwater and freshwater. Three out of five solely because they will upcharge if you dont check the price on an item before checking out. More than that, their supplies are about 1.5 times more expensive than other local fish stores.
Great selection of tank dwellers! Whether youre looking for freshwater or saltwater fish, various types of snails or plants, they have everything you need to set up and enjoy your aquatic oasis!!
Super knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Highly recommended.
Helpful staff. Large selection. Thanks, yall.
Amazing!!! Huge selection of gorgeous fish. Staff is knowledgeable. I will be going back soon!
Wide variety of great things. Nice and know their stuff. We like to shop there over Walmart for colored rocks and sand for Fairy gardens, Pirate cove & Cave Man area.
Friendly staff and great selection of freshwater fish.
I went in looking for aquarium plants. They had a lot but all the tanks were extremely disgusting. Filthy tanks. All of their plants were covered in bladder snails. These are the nuisance kind of snails you dont want. Most of their tanks were nasty. Tons of algae. I saw numerous dead fish that werent removed. They had several large fish in tanks way too small for them. A full grown Flowerhorn Cichlid 10inches long in what looked like about 2-3 gallons of water. Other large fish being kept in tiny tanks. Staff was somewhat rude. Oh and the place stunk horribly. I have gone into many aquarium shops in my life and have never smelled one this bad. I will not be going back. I have numerous aquariums and they will not be getting my business. Went in having a good day. Left having a bad day.
Very helpful staff. Place is amazing inside
John is amazing and really knows his stuff. Ive always been treated with respect and get taught about the fish and who will get along with others and who wont. I love going in here and seeing all the special varieties of fish and the beautiful tanks. You can really tell he cares deeply for his business and the fish as well. He works so hard to make sure his customers are satisfied and works with you as well. I highly recommend his business and his shop. Super excited to get more unique fish from him on the future!
It was Great they have suck a broad variety of fish from beginners to pros
Amazing customer service, the lady up front is super knowledgeable and very helpful with any questions you might have. There is a crazy variety in both size and species of fresh and saltwater fish. Couldnt be happier!
Love this place. An adventure every time I go. No pressure to buy. Love looking at the fish
Awesome selection of fish and incredible service
Pretty good selection of fish, including a lot that are hard to find elsewhere, and a great selection of aquariums and equipment. But prices are pretty high on just about everything, and staff are not particularly knowledgeable/helpful. Not the worst, but not great.
This is a great aquarium store probably one of the better ones around town definitely go to if your into fish
This is my favorite fish/aquarium store, period. The owner and staff are competent, give great advice, and have diverse stock. I often just go here to walk around and look at everything. I love this place.
Old and dirty store. The customer service could be better.
Great place to buy community fish
I was introduced to this store by my wife who keeps a small tank at her job. I have recently started keeping fish after a ten year break and what I used to find at other LFS’ I’ve been in was a group of people who were very passionate, but also, many times, very judgmental. I am by no means an expert or as knowledgeable as a person who does this for a living, but I do know that a-lot of amateur fish keepers have learned through trial and error and developed a certain expertise. The employees here did not come off as, I know everything and you know nothing, they offered great suggestions and products that could help me as well as suggesting fish, I love Barbs and the assortment of new ones(new to me at least) is amazing! I am looking forward to getting back to the four or five tanks I used to have and these folks will be receiving my business, keep up the great work!
Have had only 1 positive experience here. One employee was very engaging and very helpful. I haven’t seen this employee since.Every time I’ve been back I’ve been treated with nothing but disrespect. Today specifically an employee refused to test my water because he was “old school”. I have one well established tank and just set up a second larger one. I was looked to buy plants for my new tank and maybe a couple platy for my older tank. Instead of being interested in anything I wanted to purchase, he walked away rolling his eyes when he finally agreed to test my water. I did not spend any money here today.I love how healthy the aquariums are and I can tell the employees care about the fish. It would be great if they cared about the human customers as well.
As a business serving a hobbyist industry, like this, I expect to come in and be able to be a little chatty with staff. I want to learn a little and have good conversation about a common interest from someone with more experience than myself.I didnt get that, the associate was slightly condescending and directed my questions to the owner/manager who, even if he wasnt busy (like in past visits), had little interest in conversing with me.That being said, selection is fine enough (fish, aquariums, plants, and hardscape) if youre okay with seeing whats available, buying it, and leaving.... All that being said, there was one young fella who seemed genuinely interested in hobbyist conversation. Unfortunately, he was busy doing gruntwork.
Great variety of fish, cool little shop. Two stars directed at the staff and the pricing, just because you have a fish that you dont know that much about or because they go for big bucks on the internet doesnt mean you have a high quality $500.00 fish. Do as you please, you can price fish at whatever you want ( they are your fish to sell ) I would recommend that newer hobbyists go elsewhere.
I absolutely love the owners of this place. I’ve gotten my fish here about 5 times now and every time he seems to actually love his animals and care. I never got the same level of care from basic pet store employees like those at Petco. He even told me what food they’d been taking and asked if the tank had been run for the proper amount of time before adding fish. I love to see it when people actually care for their animals.
First time visit: Everyone was super helpful and knowledgeable! We were able to comfortably browse and only after making our initial lap did anyone ask us if we had any questions. The fish were healthy and happy. I didnt see stress behavior. Lots to choose from. The largest variety of aquarium plants Ive seen. Plan to spend an hour or more if you really want to see all the fish. There were some incredible electric blue cichlids. If youre looking for QUALITY foods come here. They also carry a nice selection of the SeaChem biological support products. I also saw canister filter supplies for a number of brands.Noticed a lot of repeat customers, and other newbies too. I know one thing for sure - when we come to the cities Im going to make time to stop here again. Thanks Aqualand for a really nice experience.
Great variety and a very experienced staff. There prices are little high but the selection is good and staff very knowledgeable.
Fish keeper paradise. Fresh, brackish and salt water fish. Nice collection of corals for sale, last time we were in they had discus. And everything in between.Weve also purchased moss and freshwater plants from here. Good selection. They even have a variety of driftwood and fish tanks. Seriously, this place has it all.Staff is very kind and helpful. 10/10 will shop again.
Fantastic selection of tropical fish. Fantastic selection of unique tropical fish you will never find it any other pet store.
Liked checking this place out.
Love this place. Great variety of fresh water fish.
Big Wise Turtle. Very helpful with any questions you might have about aquatic life. Very helpful in finding the perfect fish and corresponding fish-needs items.
Very good selection of fish, a little spendy
Excellent experience aways
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Well definitely be back!
As a salt water enthusiast, this isnt really the best store for me. However, they have a lot of freshwater fish, and a good stock of aquariums at reasonable prices.
I used to go here when I had fish they were knowledgeable and always helpful. We even got one of our dogs here once because one of the workers was a part of a husked rescue group. Definitely get your fish here as support your local aquarium!
Great selection of fish and things for aquariums. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The fish were are healthy and looked great. They also have a nice selection of bulk rocks and wood for aquascaping. I just wish it was closer to home so I could come here more often!
My favorite place to get my fishes and their supplies. Staff are very nice too
It is such a cool shop!! Beautiful fish and the owner is super helpful and friendly. They know so much about fish and are willing to share their knowledge. I did not buy anything as I have not decided yet what fish I want to get and what tank suits me the best but still enjoyed my visit there by learning about keeping fish and watching the beautiful fish.
Very knowledgeable staff and so many new and super cheap used aquariums for sale. Tons of freshwater fish and even some saltwater fish for sale as well. I will be coming back in a few weeks to buy some fish. The reason it will be a few weeks is because staff told me you have to let a new aquarium sit for 3 to 4 weeks to let the ecosystem of positive microorganisms to build up before you introduce fish. I had no idea! They could have just sold me fish and then sold me more fish when they died, but no, they helped me understand the hobby better and help me to be successful. That really showed me their honesty and won me over. Fair warning this is a fish store not a pet store so you wont find dog food, bird stuff, hamsters, ect.; but you will find the best selection of everything fish you can find in the Twin Cities.
I stopped in to ask questions about my current tank. Ive had fish before but it was a while ago. The guy who helped me, I believe his name was Dave, but Im not sure, was very knowledgeable. He asked me so many questions about my tank and gave me a lot of helpful advice. He truly wanted to help, and not just sell me something. He gave me many different options to create a good tank and proceeded to have me choose what I thought was the best option. I would strongly recommend them to anyone who is looking into starting a tank, or needs advice on how to begin to move in a better direction for a happier/healthier aquarium. I also want to note that their establishment is amazing! the outside is decorated in different aquarium futures. Inside are some of the most amazing aquariums, and selections of fish you will find! I recommend at least checking it out! Thank you for all of your hard work guys! Keep it up!
This is my favorite aquarium store, I’ve had only good experiences here. Their staff are so helpful and informative, never condescending, and I feel like they truly care about the wellbeing of my tank. They have an amazing selection of plants that are also pretty well priced. Plus they’ll analyze a sample of your tanks water for free, and are always so nice and helpful about any questions regarding improving or maintaining the environment of your aquarium.Aaaand they have the oldest mata mata turtle in North America. Her name is Linda and she always looks so happy and well cared for.
Helpful employees that dont follow you, but are there when you need help.
John was the best. If you are looking to set up a new aquarium, ask for John.
My car bottomed out trying to leave. No handicap accessibility. Great fish selection. Prices were a bit high compared to other stores
I really admire this place but it broke my heart to see my favorite greens potted puffers kept like walmart fish... One fuzzy dead one stuck to the filter while all the others are over crowded and whitewashed. They arnt a super demanding species. Cant care for it? Dont carry it.
Very nice and helpful
These guys are great, very knowledgeable, very friendly, and they all have fish at home. Just brought home four dwarf rainbows and a Raphael catfish and everyone is happy and healthy. Definitely my favorite fish store in the Twin Cities.
We love Aquarian center
Amazing fish selection and very knowledgeable staff.
Ive been going here for about 16yrs. Staff is very friendly and they have everything I need, EVERYTIME. Love taking my kids there to look at all the various fish. Lots to see.
A nice variety of fresh water fish did not have many salt water when I visited but their range of fish food both brand name but also in house made is great. Lots to look at.
These guys screw you out of money. Dont go there cause if something happens you wont get your money back, or some excuse will arise.
Was an Amazing experience!!!! Only place Ill go to! They really know there stuff. The store is crazy cool too.
A great place, friendly and knowledgable staff, huge selection of aquatic life, great prices. Me and my friend have been coming in to help feed the fish. It is a great place to go and unlike petco or petsmart they dont just try to sell you stuff when you have a problem. The do what they can to help you work through the problem.
These people are the real deal for aquarium expertise. We were helped by a former Minn. Zoo employee. Amazing selection of fish and more, all backed by deep knowledge. If you have questions about aquariums, the answer is here.
Great knowledgeable owner, and absolutely the best quality fish and friends for our tank
Love this place!! They have soooo much to look at and the staff is always super helpful and nice! I take the almost hour commute just to see what they have and I never leave unsatisfied!
The person I talked to was very rude
Very friendly, knowledgable owner. Next time I will stay longer, lots to see, and everthing you need for us enthusiasts!
Dont let the dark depressing atmosphere turn you away, this place is great. They have knowledgable staff that will take their time to help you through any decisions or trouble shooting you may have for your tank. The salt water selection may leave a bit to be desired but they have an expansive selection of fresh water fish.Kid friendly with pellets and such to feed their koi and turtle ponds.
We came to purchase a tank and a stand. Prices were very competitive and their stock left us with many choices. The staff were very knowledgeable and patient. They helped us find equipment in the price range where we were comfortable. The staff were so friendly they helped us load everything in our car.
Purchased a tank and started my fish journey here. Every staff that has helped me is amazing and highly knowledgeable. Listen to them and follow their advice and things would work out awesome! They truly care and want to steer you in the right directions.
Love this place, The owner John and his staff are great. I come here for all my fish needs.
I love this place and I also drive 45 minutes to get there. I like to support local because if we don’t they and their knowledge will leave with them. When I read the reviews I am surprised on how many complaine about the price being higher then what they expect. Please note it is located in Minneapolis ($15.00 min wage) and you are also paying for knowledge. How would you expect a small business to stay in business when the city says what you have to pay for a child to clean a fish tank? I will support this place and pay their prices. I understand.
I’ve been shopping the local fish stores and have been disappointed. Decided to try Aqualand, and finally found a store worth going to. The woman who helped me was awesome and they literally have everything you’d ever need in this hobby. Nice selection of plants and fish, nice staff, and tons of products. Check it out.
Very helpful staff and tons of healthy, gorgeous fish. Much better than chain stores.
I’ve loved this place since I started in the hobby over twenty years ago than took a break. Big mistake! Takes some money’s to get started again but John was a big help in suggesting used items. He’s also a nice guy to work with. I worked at the store under his Father Dennis and John. Very good family. So indeed I frequently visit. John works hard to keep big box at bay so please support Aqualand!! Family business for over fifty years now. Thanks ALA See you soon.
John & David are the best when it comes to fish knowledge. Theyve helped me bring back my love for my aquarium after my last tank mysteriously died.
Helpful staff, very patient and quite knowledgeable. Beautiful layed out store and is handicapped accessible.
This store is a wonderful independent Fish store! They are very helpful to new fish keepers and seasoned veterans as well! Their selections are not to be taken lightly, and they are always willing to order specialty products and items when possible... Anyone who is interested in supporting small businesses, should shop here!!! You will not be disappointed in the service and quality of their fish. They care for the quality of the fish, and helping their customers with their fish needs! We have been coming here for over 25 years, and are always thankful for John and his staff!
A lot of fish. Staff are good and have good backgrounds about fish. Freshwater and saltwater fish are available here.
Great selection, lots of supplies
High quality fish, plants and supplies. Great service.
Great staff and selection
Great place to shop for fish, great customer service.
Excellent assist by staff. Help each other! Friendly!!! Really know aquariums! Cool turtles, too
Great local shop with friendly, knowledgeable staff. Were very lucky to have them still in the neighborhood!
Absolutely love this place! Picked up a tall 15 Gallon and stand! Going to plant it and add only a very few fish... will go back and get plants and fish... :--)
I found what I wanted. And 3 months later, they look better than when I bought them and are doing well.
Price a bit higher than other mom and pop fish stores, but they have a great selection of fish. Lots of nano and live bearers and gold fish too. I saw some of the biggest tiger barbs and platys there! Really wish I had a tank set up for the tiger barbs. Wish I would have tooken pics of them. The owner/employees were good and knowledgeable too.
Huge selection of pretty much everything you could need or want! The prices are pretty high tho. Other than that if I could afford it, Id prefer to come here.
Great place, great selection, great convinience in location, and amazing staff. 5 stars. Go check it out if you live in the cities.
Great selection, knowledgeable staff, fair prices. This is my LFS
Great freshwater selection. Knowledgeable staff.
Knowledgeable, helpful workers. Able to find both fresh and saltwater fish. Great store!
