Paper Mill is magic. A beautiful place to share the spirit of the arts. A friendly and talented group of people.
I have seen about 6 or 7 shows over the last decade. Phenomenal local alternative to Broadway. The sets are always intricate and amazing feats of engineering (my favorite was meet me in ST Louie. The acting and singing is always very good. The atmosphere and venue is welcoming, the great fireplace blazes in the cold winter months. I highly recommend a visit.
Great theater in NJ....Plenty of great things happening at this venue. Seats are comfy. Not a bad one in the house. We have seen a few shows here and each one was great. Parking on site with Attendants. Volunteers and workers are helpful and friendly. Recently saw Unmasked, what a great tribute to the composer, so very talented as were the performers. I recommend this place and we will certainly go there again.
This theatre is very nice. It is comfortable, with enough space between seats. With perfect view to the stage from any seat. Parking is right there, the only issue is that the exit might be a little slow because there is only one street and gets busy, but nothing really bad. I saw Unmasked, the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and was fantastic. Usually they have great shows, some specific for children. Is awesome to have this theatre in the area.
Plays are fantastic here. They have incredible sets, actors, and props. Their seasons normally have a good mix of original and well known shows. The best thing they have is their student rush. It discounts tickets for students to make theater more accessible.
We scored terrific tickets, I believe through Show stopper. It made it possible to see a great show, Unmasked of Elton John. I loved the music. The Playhouse is super easy to get to and the seats are also very comfortable. We are fortunate to have this so close to us.
I am not a huge fan of theater but the woman I cared for was. She had a subscription and we went for years to almost every show. Only once did we not like a show. It is a great family experience. The talent is wonderful from backstage to the front. The ushers were always helpful. Even the parking lot attendants were wonderful. She was handicap and we never were lacking help if we needed it.
Watched Holiday Inn. I will cut it short, they BARELY sang the best songs and focused on unknown songs instead so dont expect to hear the songs we want to hear much. White Christmas and Happy Holidays were BARELY touched in this show for whatever purpose, the show did not milk it which is what people paid this show for.Parking NIGHTMARE !!!Will never come here againThe show was not fun to watch because everyone was just worried about how they were going to leave the premise with their cars parked CRAZY all over outside
This was my first time going to the Paper Mill Play house. The size of the auditorium was large yet still intimate. I sat in the very last row up in the nosebleed seating but was still able to see the actors clearly without feeling the need for binoculars. However, parking is a complete nightmare!! I had to park a few streets away in the residential area since there does not seem to be enough parking spots for popular shows. This actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise since I saw some cars triple parked in the parking lot and it was pure chaos when the show ended and everyone was trying to leave. Since I parked far from the massing crowd, leaving was relatively less stressful.
Very cute production of Dogman. The students thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors and actresses had good voices and the dancing brought the show to life. Many of the students were moving to the rhythm. Well done. This review is from a parent attending with the 3rd grade students.
Wonderful theater. Staff is friendly and courteous. The shows are Broadway quality productions both in acting and sets. Amazing value. Parking ($10) can be tough. Arrive at least a half hour before showtime.
Due to Covid-19, the Paper Mill Playhouse cancelled all upcoming performances....I was notified via email of my cancelled performance and had the choice to get a refund for the purchase price or donate my tickets back to Paper Mill Playhouse. I chose a refund......Not only did it take 1 month to finally get in touch with someone to execute the refund, but I was told that I will NOT get back the service fee of $8 per ticket unless I want a gift card...only then I would get back the service fee.....The explanation as to why I wasnt going to get back the service fee from Derek (Paper Mill rep) was we dont get the service fee back, so therefore you dont get it back.....But, I purchased the tickets directly from the Paper Mill Box office....What do you mean you dont get the service fee back......you have the service fee!!! I didnt cancel the performance.....YOU DID!!! For this reason alone, I will NEVER patronize the Paper Mill Playhouse as there are so many other theaters that would not be so desperate to take your money!! Spread the word and maybe condos will be taking the place of this property in the coming years!!!
Always love the theater, the Paper Mill is a great place to spend the evening. Lots of restaurants nearby for before and after. Never had a bad time. Highly recommend it.
Venue is great. Broadway caliber shows located in New Jersey. Saw Unmasked yesterday. The performers were witty and vocally superb. Thanks.
We went here to see Cinderella. The actors were amazing and sweet people and the show was amazing. I would definitely suggest going here and seeing a show
This was my first time at Paper Mill, however Ive certainly heard of it. Visiting family in NJ and my niece wanted to see Cinderella. I had never seen the Rogers and Hammersteins version of this story so it seemed new to me. The costume changes were incredible especially the transformation of Cinderella into a princess and then back were amazing. The whole family enjoyed this. Thanks for a great show! Also, Ive read the parking complaints but have to say that I had no problem parking. I was quite pleased.
In new jersey all my life never knew what a great place this was. Behind the mask a great show. Very clean
Great venue for plays. Better than Broadway in that shows are just as terrific, many include big Stars, tickets prices are less. Ez and inexpensive parking and best of all.. centrally located in NJ! Harry Connick Jr in The Sting was awesome. Downsides... theater needs Reno. Bathrooms are too scarce, seats uncomfortable and people that show up late are accommodated so they can mar your experience by being seated very late.
What a delightful show. Classic Rodgers and Hammerstein music, fantastic singing, superb sets, lighthearted fun, phenomenal costumes that were beautiful and innovative. Live music from the pit, I love Paper Mill Playhouse!!!
Magnificent!! All the actors knocked it out of the park! Beauty and the Beast has always been one of my favorite plays! You don’t need to go to broadway to see this stellar performance of wonderful singing and dancing!! Also The amazing costumes and the set designs! Truly a great performance by all!! Would highly recommend!! But you better hurry! Only 2 more weeks before This production ends for summer.
Went to see Cinderella! It was fabulous, the costumes were beautiful, was very well done the acting was wonderful too... Great for all ages
We saw Unmasked: Andrew Lloyd Webber and the show was great. Loved the theater, havent been there since I was a kid!
Very good local theater. Nice venue with comfortable seats. Superb at musical productions.
A wonderful theater overall. The shows are fabulous. Very quaint restaurant and bar area.
We went to see Cinderella, their version of the Rogers and Hammerstein play. There were a few changes made but the BEST thing was all the original music! The orchestra was awesome! The concession stand prices were very reasonable, we actually bought Christmas presents.Things you should know if you are handicapped... There is valet parking! There is an elevator. There is comfortable seating in the back of the auditorium, and the viewing is just fine. There is a handicap ONLY restroom ON that level. One person at a time. (The main floor restroom has multiple stalls for those of you that can manage the 6 or 7 stairs).Last, but 10 stars at LEAST was that we went through a LOT OF TROUBLE to get to the play, 3 hours from the South Jersey area and 2 hours for my sister and Aunt only to learn that my sister had purchased the tickets to attend the NEXT DAY!The wonderful person attending us saw our stricken faces as we stood there speechless and said, Dont worry! We can accommodate you!!! And they did just that!My sister had to work the next day and we would have missed out on a wonderful experience time!Five stars Paper Mill Playhouse! Everyone was just LOVELY! We enjoyed the entire experience!
The theater at Paper Mill Playhouse was great. The seating was renovated and on an incline, which made viewing from pretty much all areas, great. However, knowing I would be going to a “kids show” aka Beauty and the Beast, I prepared myself knowing that there might be some disruptions taking place during the show, but oh my word was it terrible. There was a huge group of kids with their 30 year old mothers taking up about about 3 rows of seating and being completely obnoxious. Talking, screaming, crying, throwing booster seats, standing up..... The other theatergoers along with myself could only glance at the mothers hoping they would control their children or remove them from the theater, which never happened. I had to leave between a scene and asked an usher if I could just stand in the back of the theater to watch the show. This was better, however this entire crowd could be heard from the back of the theater and NOTHING was being done by the ushers . Their excuse “it’s a kids show”. Booster seats continued to fly into the floor and kids standing on their parents laps. Unfortunately, I was unable to join the show at all. It was really a shame . During intermission I was offered another seat by the box office, but when I arrived to the seat a couple had already moved into the empty seats. I was not going to disturb them, so I ended up watching the rest of the show at the back of the theater listening to mass wrappers being crumpled and water bottles being thrown into the floor. Food should not be allowed in the theater and it would have been nice if the ushers in the theater addressed the problem because this was unfair to a number of people who were there to enjoy the show and couldn’t . The workers at the theater should have been able to handle this issue professionally and discreetly, but instead they just sat in the back of the theater with their flashlights and watched the chaos continue . I wish I could have gotten tickets to another show, but I wanted to leave so badly after this awful day.
Watching, listening & experiencing theatre at the Paper Mill is truly a gift. I look forward to enjoying many more evenings just west of Broadway!
A wonderful regional theater that features Broadway quality shows. What a treat to have such a top notch option outside of New York.
They never cease to amaze me with the quality of the talented actors and dancers. Just saw CHASING RAINBOWS. I hope it is Broadway Bound. It was wonderful!
Unmasked was an excellent show. The performers was excellent. What talent!
Great show! Very comfortable seating. A wonderful night!
We saw a musical version of The Sting with Harry Connick Jr., which apparently hasnt yet made it to Broadway. We enjoyed the show but not the paucity of womens restrooms for such a huge theater. It was ridiculous. For those ticket prices, the traffic jams, poor parking choices and so on, we wont be returning. Broadway is easier and not much more expensive!
Just saw Chasing the Rainbows tonight and it was absolutely fantastic!! See many plays on Broadway and decided to givethis a try with friends. Outstanding performance highly recommend to all!
Great performances, never disappointed with a play. Most are great for the entire family.
This is a fabulous theater. The plays have highly professional actors. I felt like I was watching a show on broadway. You must purchase tickets in advance. They do sell out. Season tickets are worth having. The town has many great dinner resturants before the show.It is a wonderful night out. Y
Great theatre, Good prices, Sign Language accessible and Autism friendly performances. Great bar and grilled hot dogs in The late Spring and Summer. Sweet staff...
The Paper Mill Playhouse is unique and wonderful, nestled in village-like Millburn, with quaint restaurants and shops around. What a joy is was to see Chasing Rainbows, The Road to Oz there, which is a must see fantastic musical.
The singing talent on that stage today gave me chills!! It was of Broadway caliber !! We are going to see it again on Wednesday night!!!
Amazing show. Phenomenal voices and talent. A must see equal to any Broadway show.
Great theater. Wonderful productions. Comfortable seating
Friendly staff great seats I took my girlfriend to see Cinderella and the costumes and the whole play was Broadway style
Just as good as a New York play. Beauty and the Beast was fantastic. Very organized and staff was very professional. Will go again and recommend it to friends and family.
Love this place! Staff is friendly and attentive - shows cant be beat!
Always enjoy the shows here. Has production value similar to Broadway, but easier to get to.
When the previous house burned down, they built this too, too large replacement.I can never imagine how they can fill it with over 1,500 seats.Still, the stage is incredibly deep and wide. The acoustics are very good. The staff and management work tirelessly giving back to the community, the region, and the State of New Jersey.A superior regional theater in a gorgeous setting. Now if they would only mount more intriguing productions. For example, with such a grand stage, why not be brave and do, Porgy and Bess?Or, Kismet?Or, Billy Roses Jumbo? They seem to want to play it safe most of the time, and appeal to all the dentists and retired lawyers that populate their audiences and offer up many treachly safe shows that were just on Broadway a year or two ago. Apparently they are under the impression that nobody from Millburn / Short Hills dares to cross the Hudson River. For me, I see such wonderful possibilities in that absolutely marvelous stage.Oh, well.
Always put on a good show. Been a subscriber for many years.
Absolutely outstanding performance of Beauty and the Beast. No need to go to Broadway to see an amazing production. The stage production is excellent as well as the performers. Definitely do your best to see a performance here.
PERFORMANCES ARE POLITICALLY BIASED. ORIGINAL STORIES ARE CHANGED AND NOT GOOD FOR CHILDREN OR YOUNG ADULTS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLAYHOUSE.Lets see if they respond to THIS post
Amazing theatre. The show CINDERELLA was exceptional.
Saw Chasing Rainbows...The Road to Oz. Great play with awesome singers/dancers though too long. Cut some of dances & itll be Broadwaybound in no time!
Venue for Off-Broadway to Broadway quality productions. In terms of accessibility:-companion (gender neutral or family) restroom available on upper lobby level, a short elevator ride up.-ASL interpreted shows and Audio-Described shows available (usually only a few shows for each production, so check the schedule. We just saw an ASL production. My family is not fluent in ASL but three family members are conversational, and thought the interpreters were very good. If you are short it may be hard to see the signing from some seats since the theater is not very steeply inclined.-autism friendly shows are offered I think (I know they used to, so check the website)-parking for wheelchair vans was confusing but ultimately they were very considerate and let us park very close. If this is relevant to you (if you wheel a wheelchair out of your car, rather than transferring in and out) talk to the cop in front of the theater and ask where to go.Accessibility offerings really helped a lot. Most staff members didnt seem to know what to do with us (didnt know where our seats were, for ex, or where our bathroom was) but once they asked another staffer, they got the right info, and the theater had everything that we needed! They seemed to want to help. It was snowing when we were loading into our van, for ex, and the staffers salting the driveway actually salted especially hard around us to help us be safe on our ramp. Very kind! Also, there are teacher discounts for select weekends and select seats. Finally, there are many good offerings on the area for food and drinks, many of which are handicap accessible.Enjoyable and convenient conversation.
Saw the New Voices program tonight. It was awesome!! The performers did a terrific job. And the Paper Mill staff were friendly and accommodating!!
Always great performances here. Broadway quality, but not Broadway prices. The renovations make the seating very comfortable. Get a subscription, you will pay much less that way.
Dinner and the theater with great friends. Nothing better
Always a pleasure to see a great show at a great theater. All the staff members are friendly and courteous and the theater is clean. The parking can be horrendous and attempting to get out the parking lot afterwards is even worse. Otherwise, everything else is amazing.
Greatest professional shows around without having to go into Manhattan. Ticket prices are reasonable and you can see the stage from anywhere in the theater.
Convenient, better than traveling to NYC and safer. Good shows and performances.
Great show, Cinderella. Love going there!
The place has been renovated and it is wonderful. The seating is vastly improved. I would like to thank the sponsor for their donation in making all the improvements in the place. We have been going there many years and they really have wonderful shows. Its nice too see that younger folk are coming to the playhouse and that they are having shows that appear here before they hit broadway. You really need to check this place out, they have great performances.
My daughter has been taking private singing lessons and an acting lesson there for over 7 months... (and all during this time she’s been cast in regional shows) but they gave away her private lesson time without consulting me and didn’t accept her into their summer program...Really???My money is great for the school year, but my kid isn’t even good enough for a summer PAID PROGRAM???Did I mention she was taking lessons THERE?
Saw a show... Very nice time... Very happy with one exception... At auditorium door very pleasant woman said right through this door & an usher will seat you.. I entered & walked over to Idle usher he did not approach me.. handed him our tickets.. he looked at them looked up into the seats and said yeah up there about five rows in the middles the numbers are on the seats and pointed... I did mention Ive been to the theater before usually the usher brings you to the seat or at least to the row... That I didnt care for... Other than that I must say everything else was as good or better than I expected
Great setting, easy to get to by car or train, and each play has two of the performances interpreted for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
Always great shows performed there and managing the parking spots.
Great performance. Enjoyed Cinderella musical a lot.
Always a great show, every seat has a good view and not overcrowded.
Beautiful theater and great performance for both kids and adults to enjoy
Saw Benny and June! Great! Sat in handicapped section because of a knee injury. Seats were comfortable and would recommend them for any larger than average person. Parking is a bit crazy.
This place is amazing as are the performances. Staff was extremely helpful. Just be ready for a long line at the restroom during intermission.
Broadway quality close to home. Easy (affordable) parking. Great town with nice restaurant choices before or after a show.
Always a great Broadway quality show and a good time at this beautiful theater!
Saw a nice musical, Cinderella great place to see a show
Great space! Acustics were perfect. Parking lot exits could use some traffic direction.
Great. My girls loved it and it was magical for all of us. Left the theater singing IMPOSSIBLE all the way home.
Just saw Beauty and the Beast there and is was absolutely amazing! Theres not one bad I could say about it! It was honestly phenomenal!
Wonderful theater in Millburn. Was impressed with the performance for what I thought was a community theater. Downtown area within walking distance so a lovely evening of dinner/drinks and a show is well worth it.
We went to see Benny and Joon! It was a spectacular show and the venue is always hospitable. Cant wait to go back for another enjoyable night!
Broadway level productions without the hassle of NYC. Never a disappointment, and many of their productions have moved to Broadway. Excellent
I love this place nice ennviroment.
Just saw a wonderful production of Beauty and the Beast. Goingto the Paper Mill is so conventient. Parking the car, picking up the tickets, and being greeted by the friendly staff made for a pleasant day....easier than going to a show in NYC!
The actors here are so professional, and the sets are beautiful! Last year me and my friends went to see Mary Poppins and it was amazing. If you didnt know any better you would have thought that it was a Broadway play. In fact, I would say that it was better than Broadways Newsies and Matilda! 10/10 recommend!!!!!!!!! Also the tickets are reasonably priced!
Wonderful place with great plays shown! There are parkings available just near the theater or you can go to free parking about 5 minutes away. The stage and decorations are just great, having orchestra pit makes it possible to have live music. The play we went to was practically perfect :)Would definitely recommend this theater to see great plays on good stage.
The Papermill Playhouse shows bring so much joy to my life. It’s close to home and easy to get too. I just bought my tickets for British Invasion. I cannot wait.
I had a great time watching the show
This place is just great. Especially the convenience of having Broadway feeling just 10 minutes away.
I work at valet company that the papermill playhouse has and honestly we been there for many years and our low flat rate for the service always been the same and the attendants are great people. You can depend on us to care for your car and enjoy the show
Such a great place to see a show.
Great show. All the actors in the cast were top notch. You dont have to go to NYC to see a good show. Papermill never dissapoints.
Yet another Great PerformanceTime and time again
Great venue, and a really great show. The Paper Mill Playhouse provided a perfect Mothers day gift for my mom.
Great, cheap plays just like on Broadway but way cheaper. Great for kids 1sts!
