About 3/4 mile up the hill from the parking lot. Worth it to see a WW2-era gun emplacement in excellent condition including example of the type of 16 gun that would have been used here and Battery Davis at Fort Funston. The old munition-storage bunkers have been retrofitted into a visitor center of sorts that is well worth the visit once they open again.
Steep 15 minute hike up from Rodeo Beach. The Battery consists of two massive gun emplacements for WWII. The barrel of a similar gun is placed outside the concrete emplacement as an exhibit. Great views.
A quick check first be prepared, also youll find more to see and do when you get there its exciting.
Walking up to Battery Townsley from Rodeo Beach is my go-to morning hike. Great views and good cardio. Plus the history of the place is interesting. The nearby military tunnel installation is open once a month, I believe.
A fairly large battery in the Marin Headlands which had two massive war guns to protect the Golden Gate Bridge and the surrounding region from attacks during WWII. A bit of a hike about 10 to 15 minutes uphill to reach but not to difdicult and the views are pretty nice also.
Being a military history fan this was a treat. 1st Sunday of every month they open the doors to the bunker. Quick but interesting tour.
This is an awesome place but the wind and fog is no joke. Dress warm and in layers. Hike if you want but why hike when you can bike!
A real life 65 ft canon to look at!
Beautiful place for walking, great view, if you like to enjoy the fresh air, this is the perfect place you can visit. There is a free parking, also you can enjoy the beach...

Its a cardio workout to hike to battery townsley but totally worth the scenery.

An amazing site to see. A great hike all the way to the top. The views are incredible. This should be a must see for all people visiting the area. The beach is perfect.
Really interesting historical site. The volunteers were friendly and one could tell they enjoyed being there.
Rain or shine...views, reasonable hikes and great place for a walk with the dog.
The Coastal views are great
Beautiful view
Fun place for kids to explore.
Nice views and good hiking trail
Love the views here and there are a lot of different hiking trails. I come here almost weekly
This hike is an easy one yet still thoroughly enjoyable. It is close to the city and a short hike but the views are stunning and it isnt too crowded.Bring food and water and enjoy your lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If you only have a couple of hours for a hike and you are in southern Marin or in SF this place is ideal.
Nice sites, great for hiking along a great ocean view, lots of trails, bring comfortable shoes and clothes.
Fancy old military battery. Quite a bit of history here! Including a massive cannon and some placards explaining the areas.
Fun hike with amazing views
