Poekie Nook is the most magical place that our daughter has ever found. Its her retreat and sanctuary; there is no place else she would rather be!My daughter, now nearly 8, found Poekie Nook 2 years ago and since then she has sewn about 40 poekies, made 4 houses, and a couple different habitats. She has gone to summer camps, holiday camps, after school hours, spent most Saturdays, and had her birthday party at her beloved Poekie Nook. Its a place where she can go, be herself, and visit with kind friends and teachers while keeping her imagination and hands busy sewing the softest, cutest animals ever.Sophia, Christine, Jay, Abby, and all the amazing teachers that work with the kids each provide guidance and allow for independence and imagination to flourish. The other children there range in ages so the younger ones get to listen in on conversations about middle and high school life, while they all develop skills of conversation and socialization, as well as dexterity and the craft of sewing.Honestly, its the best thing that could have happened early in her life to have found such a wholesome place and be a part of such a lovely community.I cant say enough good things about Poekie Nook and the people who work there!
We feel so fortunate to have stumbled upon Poekie Nook. We signed up for a two hour trial and have been coming weekly since. Poekie Nook is a safe, relaxed, and creative space. The students have to work up to harder and harder projects allowing them to practice patience, planning, perseverance, and goal setting. Our girls are on the young side (6) and really appreciate the skill and company of the older girls. They are always excited to go to Poekie Nook!- Camille
My 9 year old daughter has been going to Poekie Nook for nearly three years. She loves being there so much and is almost always the first in and the last out. There are so many things to love about Poekie Nook: the kind and engaging owner and her staff (including the tween/teen helpers!); the ease and flexibility of drop-in classes; the whimsical crafting space; the use of fine motor skills; the creative summer camps; and of course last but not least....the hand sewn stuffies and the pride that comes along with creating them! To learn more about Poekie Nook check out their website. Drop-in classes require a monthly membership fee, but no school days and camps do not. Hope to see you there!
Had a lovely birthday party here. They were so easy to work with and did a great job with the guests. The kids loved making little animals and playing with them when they were done. It is a warm and welcoming space and our birthday girl was over the moon.
Our 6 year old daughters time at Poekie Nook has become a bright spot in our lives. Christine, the owner, is kind, accommodating and excellent with children of all ages. She has been helping our daughter improve her fine motor skills by teaching her the basics of hand sewing (whipstitch, backstitch, pattern cutting, assembling 3D shapes and then stuffing those shapes with beads and batting). I can hardly believe how gorgeous the end results are!But more than that, shes given my daughter a wonderfully fulfilling creative outlet. She feels a true sense of accomplishment and, thanks to the hands-on instruction given by all of the teachers, can actually produce what she sees in her minds eye.Now more than ever, in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Christines excellent communication skills, professionalism and attention to detail really shine. Teachers are always wearing masks, children and staff wash their hands frequently, each student works with a set of designated tools that are disinfected when they leave and groups are kept small enough to maintain social distance. All the while, the teachers at Poekie Nook foster a relaxed and playful environment where the kids can just be kids! This place is truly magical.
I’m writing this on my moms phone so I’m a kid writing this. I love pookie nook because from the first day I went in kindergarten I loved it they welcomed me with open arms. They taught me how to sew and now I sew better then my mom.
The most heart-warming, cozy place to bring kids to learn & practice making cheerful artwork is the form of hand-sewn stuffed creatures. Both my children (boy & girl) adore Poekie Nook for beading and sewing, plus the amazing examples to play with that owner Sophia & her patrons have created. Can’t get enough!!!
I would have loved sending hours here when I was a girl.
