This bridge is the best and newest bridge that spans the C&D canal. Time your trip right and you might see a beautiful sunset. Unfortunately theres no fishing off of the sides. Also, no pedestrian or bicycle pathway. So if youre traveling on Route 1 in Southern New Castle county you might find yourself actually using this amazing bridge.

Very impressive looking and wide and smooth ride on this bridge. It has nickname of yellow bridge or Route 1 bridge, and another official name is the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Bridge, built on Dec 9, 1995. Paved trails can be accessed for all day long road/mountain biking.

I drive over this bridge nearly everyday, its well paved and well maintained. Although they tend to leave one or two potholes on the bridge, my rims have been saved so far.

The Chesapeake & Delaware Canal Bridge is located in St. Georges, DE. This bridge is located along DE 1. There is an older St. Georges Bridge that you can see next to it that parallels this bridge that is on US 13 (located slightly to the east of this bridge). The bridge is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and does not have a toll itself. Tolling is done by the state of Delaware, which operates the overall DE 1 roadway. My most recent travel across this bridge was on October 8, 2019.I am originally from NJ, but live in VA now, so I do travel from time to time up to New Jersey. For several years, I remember going over the old St. Georges Bridge while the state was still building DE 1. For a while after the bridge opened, we would still take US 13 instead since there was no toll on that road. Eventually, once DE 1 was fully functional, in the early 2000s, we would just use DE 1 instead, especially since we had an EZ Pass. EZ Pass came to Virginia as a Smart Tag in 2004. The concrete segments that make up the bridge were actually made in Cape Charles, VA.This bridge is named after Senator William V. Roth Jr., who was a senator in for Delaware (this is where Roth came from in Roth IRAs). This bridge is a cable-stayed bridge, which is similar to a suspension bridge, and opened in 1995. The bridge is quite a big span, spanning 4,650 long and is 100 feet above the canal below. The view of this bridge is beautiful. On one trip, we were a bit later getting to NJ and we ended up crossing after dark, and that was a beautiful sight to see as well. If the skies are clear and other weather conditions are good, you can usually see the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the northeast when headed north (look a little to the right). If that is where you will eventually be going, youll generally get there in about 20 minutes with good traffic.If your travels take you this way, definitely take in the moment in time as you approach and go across this bridge, whether it is in the daytime or at night. This is a short, but great bridge to travel over. Any future travels that take me this way will be done by going across this bridge. I think youll like this bridge too.

No room for error, uncle had a blowout tire and had to drive the entire bridge until the local exit ramp, not that 13 is in any way shape or form better. that bridge is literally falling apart. Some of the pylons dont even hold the bridge up anymore, catwalk is gone in places

This is simply a bridge and not an attraction. By the way if there is an accident in the area you will go no where!

Certainly not the right bridge to support during an election year--but gorgeous spokes cast eerie shadows across the cars as they whip across during sunset. Could have been a tad longer, but all in all a great bridge. Short and sweet.

Great way to get over the water

Thank God it is 3 lanes wide, unlike Route 1. They have shifted the lanes when Route 301 was connected, now its time to put the lanes back instead of riding on patches

Usually smooth sailing but the only have 1 lane open at this time if night going towards I295 north in Jersey
