An historic venue opened in 1982, it had a wide diversity of events held and good times had before C-19.Cant wait for this to be put behind Us so the Arts can live on again a JLK!
Feels like going back into time. All the carpet, no projector during the performances very 70s vibe. I wonder if Ron Jeremy has a hand in it. Time for an upgrade. Im sure they can afford it with that nice hotel that theyre attached to. The performers were good. The place, well read above.
Rating this venue based on its ability to house some amazing events I’ve attended and the memories made there including a Wheel of Fortune taping and one amazing graduation ceremony! Hop off the metro-mover and you are right there! A staple in Miami! #knightcenter #downtownmiami #events #wheeloffortune #commencement
I do not recommend this location for concerts or any other use. The venue looks, smells and feels disgusting. Sorry floors, walls and carpets. Outdated and dingy upholstery on the seating. Mismatched lighting in all areas, leading to a dim semi condemned feel in the whole place. The craft services were below sub par, over priced, with cold and tasteless options. I still feel queasy thinking of my chicken fingers and ice cold pizza. The entire auditorium feels as if its trapped in 1970, with the original air conditioning and barely any lighting on the stairs. I tripped twice going to my seats in the pitch black darkness. The air was unhealthily humid and warm during the concert, and the seating is cramped and oddly situated for the amount of people vs ability to see the stage well. The only saving graces are that the sound was incredible, loud in all the right ways, and the toilets were very clean. Also. Not sure if ADA compliant, as there are no elevators to the top seating area, only steep tiled stairs.
I’ll start by explaining what I liked, i had a big problem and they were able to help me, but that’s the only reason it gets 2 star instead of 1.We purchased to tickets to see Vampire Weekend, a band me and my girlfriend had been following for years. We were only able to grab corner seats but we were happy because they were lower level and looked fine enough. When we got there we discovered that half of the stage was blocked by curtains. In general, if there is going to be an obstructed view, the venue will give a warning about that. But absolutely no warning in ticket master. We paid same price as everyone else and our view was half blocked. Since we got there early we were able to complain our way into different seats which i am very thankful for. But I saw countless others getting rejected and turned back to their seats.I think it is truly wrong to not give a warning about this and have fans come and be incredibly disappointed To know they won’t see half of the act. To be clear I do appreciate tremendously the help they offered me. But I think the fact that they put 2/14 sections with hundreds of fans in this predicament in the first place is shameful.I highly recommend you use SERIOUS caution when buying tickets in sections 101, 102, 113, and 114 as these could all be instructed view with NO warning at all. And I would strongly urge them to fix the way they map their seats.Other than that the center seemed outdated, and dull but great acoustics so it balances out. I enjoyed my experience greatly but it’s a shame that they didn’t use more caution while disappointing more than 1/4 of the fans.
I visit JLKC often for corporate tradeshows. The valet parking usually fills up pretty quickly if you dont get there early. On top of that, they normally charge $48 for special events which is CRAZY! We normally dont get a huge amount of attendees showing up and passing by our booth but thats probably because one of the trade shows takes place on Columbus day weekend! Bad idea there! The center itself is not horrible but its not beautiful either. Still looks kinda old and could use some updating. They recently remodeled the cafe which looks a lot nicer... but the rest of the place still needs work.
The venue is spacious & well kept but if Im being honest everything is so tight & congested... Parking to get into the garage is too close, seats are basically on top of each other... On a busy night or event, getting in & getting out is way more difficult than it needs to be... But I always enjoy myself when Im there . Id also like to suggest walking concessions to avoid getting up during a show or event if thats not a thing?
You can get amazing concerts in a more intimate setting.. Win win situation. Love every moment!
It was my second time at this Venue. Nice place located inside the next to The Hyatt. We had good seating on the second level. My only problem was the name James L ... is written very small on the bottom which was blocked by parked cars . It would have been better to call it building of the City of Miami...,which is boldly written on the top. The GPs kept sending us in circles.
My cousin asked me to attend the Babyface, New Edition concert with his wife because he was in NYC. Very entertaining! Brought me back to the 90s.I have not been to the JLK center in years and it seemed the same as there were many stairs to climb. Parking was conveniently in the garage under the venue. Good time had by all.
Went to a comedy concert back in Feb. Amazing venue
I will not come back after last night concert. Because this has been the 3rd time I have came and tried to enjoy the show and people was in there Smoking Weed . I felt like I was going Pass out. And the center is long overdue for Renovation. Experience was Terrible.
To whom this may concern,The only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is because I enjoyed myself at the comedy show, however the A/C was not working AT ALL, anytime the A/C turned on to blow warm air we patrons looked forward to that.... thats how hot it wa . The seats smelled horrible, and looked even worse. For such a well known and often used location it can be used and kept better. Please fix!!!Please
Well..kind of difficult to get there, its very crowded when have an event should be prepare to spend a lots of time only to get the parking lot, but its a nice theater and its elegant center to see arts and a lots of nice people,
I work at this place for 14 years. Its been a joy and fun place.
Cool and nice. Great music and performance!see ya next time there.
Getting to the parking garage after the concert was a complete nightmare. Lots of people crowding the elevators and pushing to get on is a huge hazard. Stairs and other way of exiting need to be added. Otherwise, everything was fine
Section 108 had great seats for the middle range pricing. I give 4 stars because parking is not great. I took a Lyft to avoid the parking lot but its still a feat to leave once a show ends and several thousand people are all trying to make an exit at once. I had to walk a couple of blocks away to avoid being stuck in traffic trying to catch the ride. That might be unavoidable for large venues so its something to plan for if youre going to a show.
Was there for Glory 68 fight. Nice location next to the Hyatt.
My husband & I are out of country and we visited the James L. Knight Center for a Joe & Keith Sweat concert the weekend of Thanksgiving. We left our hotel in Doral at 530pm for an 8 pm concert just to ensure we got there in time. I prepaid $20 plus for parking just for the concert but it was impossible trying to find the parking garage I paid for. We used our GPS & 2 separate Goole Maps but for some reason we were driving in circles as we followed the directions. The moral of this story.....use valet parking at this venue. But otherwise it was a great venue and the concert was nice.
Seating was nice and the audio was great. The rows are just a little too close. It does not allow any walking space for someone who needs to get up during the show to go to the restroom without interrupting others to walk.
Very good place to watch performers. Many bathrooms. The bar had a good mix of domestic beers and foreign. Very nice ambiance.
A nightmare to get in and out of the building. Bad location. Inside is beautiful. Nice art pieces inside. Wish the location didnt have such a terrible traffic. Do not think I will go back again because of that.
The theater is comfortable, we could see the escenary perectly from the seat, although the scenary is a little dark, then I couldnt see the artists perfectly although I was seat near. The audio is magnific.Good location but difficult parking in the Regency hotel, then I found it some blocks ago but I enjoy myself with the spectacule.
I have been coming here for a very long time. I have seen many venues and it is always a treat. They have such a great atmosphere and the people are really courteous. The perfect views no matter where you sit. They have a hotel where you can stay if you are coming from out of town. The staff at the hotel are so nice too. From the moment you step out of your car the valet treat you like royalty. If you are wondering if the knight center is a nice place, I have to say its super classy. I go there when my favorite events are there. Truly a landmark place for Miami.
Excellent place. Nice sound, provided food and drinks
The comedy show was really great; however the location was not the best. The seats are soo uncomfortable, no leg room or room for people to pass by. You cant really enjoy the show when you are uncomfortable and standing to let someone in and out.The food options should be better and also the adult drinks. I wouldnt necessarily jump at another event being hosted at the James L.Knight Center until they remodel or restructure.
The worst venue for absolutely anything! Smells, dirty floors, chairs are super old, this place is a nightmare.
This is s great venue for graduations and other similar events. There is ample theater-style seating, as well as seating on the floor in front of the stage. The only problem I had was finding the building, because there was no sign out front that showed the name. I walked past the building before someone pointed it out to me.
The love of my life I enjoyed seeing Keith Sweat, I love the fact that the elevator are inside and we dont have to go outside to walk.
Went for my sister in laws grad school graduation. This place was so hot and stuffy and smelled old its time for a renovation!! And the people working there were so incredibly rude! The graduation wasnt even over 15 minutes and they started kicking everyone out.
Great event center. Could use a facelift in the seating area. Other than that I think it is a great venue. I love coming here for events.
Here for a concert tonight...really sad to see this historic venue so unkempt. The floors are dirty, the carpets are stained and full of gum, the seats look like they haven’t been touched in years. Feels like time travel to 1980s Miami, and not in a good way.
Attended Madeas Farewell Tour in upper level seating. Definitely suggest wearing comfortable shoes for the amount of walking. Parking is atrocious regardless so give yourself extra time to access the one way in parking areas situated in the most congested area of downtown Miami. Also confusing navigating leaving the center. Only two elevators to the parking structure and hundreds of people attempting to leave at the same time. Ended up taking 4 flights of stairs and waiting 45 minutes just to get out of the parking garage. During the show, people chose to stand in the walkways instead of sitting, making it hard to enjoy the show. Attendants were constantly shining flashlights for latecomers to find their seats and to monitor people attempting to take pictures and video.
My son took me here for a pre birthday surprise, what a beautiful night it was GENWINNE,SLIK,AVANT JAGGED EDGE AND KELLY PRICE
Awesome events... something is off about the sound system or engineer kinda ruins the shows
The worst venue for absolutely anything! Went for a concert and paid over $100 for what they call good seats went to a comedy show and the same thing happened, no room for the arms to be at your side with how close the foldable chairs were and yes “good seats” then went to a play and boom same thing! Never again
A bit on the handicap side. They were very pleasant and accommodated me with my seating. Thank you to the gentlemen who helped me. Couldnt do the stairs.
I came to see the group A.C.E back in december. i had a great time seeing them, the boys did amazing but the facility itself was obviously old and needed some remodeling. the staff was great and friendly but even the people with front row seats werent close to the stage at all... i dont know if it was the venue or the organizers fault but with everyone i talked with after the show, they were hugely disappointed with the stage gap given how much they paid for good tickets and how at every other show on the tour, fans were given floor tickets. the lighting also made it hard to see them when they were performing and nearly blinded me a few times. five stars for A.C.E but two for the facility - they deserved better.
Excellent venue with great sound and ample seating capacity. The parking is convenient, though you will have an issue entering and exiting the lot due to the location of the entrance.
Really enjoyed the Superbowl hosting event, Staff was extremely professional and accommodating.
Went to the James L Knight center to see a few comedians also saw Katt Williams was very crowded and nice I really had a nice time
Historic venue; workers arent that professional.
Need more lighting and guidance. Hard to find seats but the show was amazing
It is such a big place I give them 5 stars for that but that night when we attended a Katt Williams event it was very hot it was very packed I do understand but there was no excuse for the heat when I tell you I was literally sweating my thighs against another woman as she took off her jacket to put in between us to see if that will help us from sweating the most embarrassing moment aggravating and very gross and disgusting moments was sitting next to people feeling their body temperature as theyre sweating and Fanning themselves but the most wonderful part about the day was listening to all the comedians doing their voice impersonation and so much more I truly had a blast at night besides the heat everything else was a plus drinks food and etcetera all Plus even the hospitality was wonderful the only thing I can say is please Lord find a GOOD AC company
We went for the Gospel concert and my family and friends enjoyed.. Its located in Miami downtown are.. The hotel is larger than Normal and Beautiful..They offer valet parking and self parking.. The employees are friendly and helpful.. Theres handicap accessible restroom.. The concession stand sells Food, Snacks and Drinks during the event. Vendors have merchandise for sell.
This place needs to be updated badly. I saw a comedy show and we were sitting in the 200 section, we could not see the comedians at all. Normally a place with this type of venue would have large screens to see who ever the talent is. The chairs are hard and uncomfortable and the volume on their microphone sounds a little distorted. Sorry no pictures. They didnt want us to record.
Performance was great and for what I know about sound systems in venues it sounded well but the place is in dire need of remodeling and a new AC system.
Awesome place for Any event.. Theres not a bad seat in the entire auditorium. Highly recommended to be at any Music or theatrical live plays.. Im going to miss Medea !!!!!
Been here several times and they improvements over the years have been good. Major improvement on the sound system
I gave it a 3 only because I love A.C.E. and the staff was really nice, other than that, I would have given it a 1 star... I think the stage set up was not welcoming for this amazing group from Korea. I had first row seats side view section 113 row A seat 4 and 5 but they placed the audio speakers stacked up on the stage, completely blocking the view of the entire group. Someone definitely did not think this through. Sloppy work! A.C.E. performance of course was impeccable, they deserve better.
Sharonville knifecenter if not built for people to be able to get around easy due to the lack of hand handrails inside the stadium
What a great place to have venues in downtown Miami..... James L Knight Center really is a wonderful place to have conversations. From its own place at the hotel is a way to save for those people flying out of state. From different floor to show all the venues involved. Easy access from downtown, Brickell and I95 . Having great staff to help setup and dismantle.
The venue is old and you soon realize it. There is no way to find the seat numbers once the lights are off and the staff is not very helpful on that. Very difficult to get there because the traffic. For parking you are in Miami mob hands. Be prepared to pay anywhere between $ 15-40 for two hours.
Run down. Im not sure why anyone would want to perform there. Non smokers mixed with smokers . Just tooo much going on lol.......
We attended the 90s love tour concert last month. The sound was horrible and it was terribly hot inside of the center. They need not to do any more concerts there.
I enjoy the show just need to keep selling food for late eater
Spacious venue but of course parking is never fun.
Always a good time! If you want a table definitely plan to have a reservation, which means youll be there early.Food is ok, a bit pricey for what it is. Drinks are good and reasonably priced. Entertainment is great.
Place is big, but not that big that you see artists super tiny, we were middle level and sound was perfect
Those stairs to the second floor..anit no joke!!!!
Theater was an great experience has nice seats with much room. Acoustic sound was lovely
After so many years of being in business and holding so many big events, they should have made more room for parking. The parking garage still doesnt hold the crowds so then you have to drive behind the building to park in empty lots that fill up very fast also. The parking and traffic is too much of a hassle but overall, the venue itself is nice.
Beautiful concert Hall. Great acoustics. Highly recommended. I do not recommend going to Books & Books restaurant beforehand. It is subpar and a ripoff. The food was dry, some portions were extraordinarily small or not really as advertised on the menu. And for that matter, there are no prices on the menu. If youre not in a very high-end restaurant and they dont put prices on the menu, it is a sure sign you are going to get ripped off. Never again
The venue is beautiful! I was able to see clearly from my seat. It wasnt all of the way to the top but definitely past halfway. I went to see a comedy show. Took away a point because the usher initially told me and my friend to go to our seats in the dark on our own. I waited for some one else to assist us.
Venue reminded me of an old high school gym. Very outdated, the seat were, not good, they were fold down wooden worn out. Felt like I was at a prepp rally and I was over dressed.
They really need more signs your first time here getting around to even find the place is crazy if it wasnt for a mass amount of people youd think it was just a big hotel.
Access terrible no elevator and I was not able to sit in my original seat ... support team tried help but I had to move 5 times because was not my original sit (with my knee injury).. in the end I saw the concert in a chair in a lower level ... no view
Place was very clean and easy to get to the seats once you get in. The area driving in doesnt have many visible signs, when in lots of traffic, as to where to park and all. Once we got in it was fairly easy to get to where we needed to be.
Im still trying to figure out why they try to blind you with the stage lights. I couldnt even enjoy the show we had floor seats and they had these bright lights beaming into the audience about blind people. Everyone was shifting around in their seats to keep the lights out of their eyes. The floor seats are very close together. You have absolutely no elbow room. However the staff was friendly. The food from the snack bar was good a little pricey but good.
Terrible! People standing in front of stage in front of handicapped people. No one asked them to be seated. Elevator situation is horrible. Parking garage is horrible too. If I can help it, I will not be going back to that place.
Awesome time at BET Gospel Supper Bowl concert!
It was wonderful
Auditorium well ventilated and seats while small are comfortable if you choose to sit. Staff is pleasant, Plenty of security and Bathrooms were clean. Parking in Downtown Miami is quite expenses at about $40 for 3 hours. Quite safe for parents to drop off their teens for the concert from the boys from South Korea.
It really feels here that youre at home. Best place for a vacation where you feel safe and youre surrounded by great people. Cant say enough good things!
It is set in a beautiful location where you can see the river close by. The atmosphere is one of hospitality and comfort.
Loved! Came out to celebrate my brothers graduation from Albizu University! Graduated with honors!! Super proud!!
Laugh festival with mike eps funny but seats are uncuttable
We had a great time.
Nice place, parking is good. I came here for a company event. A little old looking but, ok.
Be very careful walking their stairs. Theyre not wide and people fall down them a lot you have to walk sideways. They need to remodel
Went to Love 90s music tour. The concert was good but there are no big screens to see the acts. I would say this venue was not worth the money.
My family and I are here for the MADEA FAREWELL TOUR PLAY. We are enjoying ourselves and having a great time. I got so much on my mind, so it was nice to cut loose and forget about everything for a moment. IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!
Very interested place to be in company of a romantic friend
Ive been going to your. Venue for many years.i have memories.but cant grasp the fact that the last time we were there i was very ichy and the smell on the chair upholstery was and is horrible. We choose this last visit to stand after a long day of work.we shouldnt have had to stand. For hygienic purposes your location should take this into consideration.thanks again.
Nice place. Terrible parking options
Needs to be updated but still enjoyed the show
Had a great time once I actually found the place. Not being from Miami I used Google maps to give me directions from Ft Lauderdale and just kept driving in circles because the sign for the James L. Knight center was blocked by cars and taxi cabs and we didnt know it was connected to the Hyatt hotel. We actually had to go old school and ask for directions from someone walking down the street.
Great Concert Place...
