Nice museum, several collections even some to interact with. Only part of the experience I didn’t care for was the following of the attendants, i understand why they do what they do, but it makes you uncomfortable the whole visit. Made me rush my visit for that reason.
Wonderful place to go, fun things to see.
Small, but interesting museum in the heart of Miami Beach. Offers an experience in contemporary art and occasionally concerts and family activities;-) I just have to add to this review... Since the recent renovation, the museum has transformed into a modern art gallery with the most amazing exhibitions... The previously dark spaces showcasing mummies have been turned into lively galleries presenting contemporary artists... For one of the most recent exhibitions, one of the rooms has been turned into a club! Definitely a great experience for adults as well as kids...
I went to this museum for an event. The museum was open to go through the exhibit on the second and first floor. The event had an open bar and some pretty good appetizers. Not sure if they had an put door vendor for the bar and food.Either way, the setting was great for the event. I am not sure the price, but it was pretty cool. Might be worth to check it out.I want too into the art exhibit, but it wasn’t bad.
Neat museum right in the heart of South Beach 22 Nd street. Features art work or various artists. Lucky to see Sheila Hicks featured in an evening when the Museum was rented by an organization .
Amazing and inspiring exhibitions!
This is a great museum. The day we went it happened to be free, but we would have happily paid. There were a lot of very interesting and unusual exhibits. Im surprised they let people climb on the giant bed, definitely try it if you go! For those saying its too short or not worth the money, I would say they are not giving the exhibits due consideration. Many of them clearly took a great deal of time, creativity and craftsmanship by the artists. Well worth a visit.
Its not that large, but they have an interesting selection of contemporary art.
Not really interesting... small exhibition ...I was expecting more .. Miami deserves a much more important museum ...
We visited in July when the Sheila Hicks display was in place, it was 10 dollars for the three of us (12 and above) and free for the child. It’s not a big museum but it was quite thoughtful and we had about 50mins of entertainment and they involved reading every plaque in the building. The staff where quite friendly and the four star is based on the small size of the venue
It was a pleasant visit! The art works are able to connect with visitors and social issues. Though I have no idea why they put classical oil painting with modern stone wall decoration together. It’s a small art museum but definitely worth the visit!
Nice respite from the local pace. Small venue. Check ahead for current art exhibt/installations. Nice that admission is discounted for students and free to military and Veterans.
There’s a great place to different styles you got there everything in just a small space. I would recommend it
The Bass is a MUST SEE on Miami Beach! Wonderful, friendly staff and security, delicious food in the cafe, and a truly thought-provoking and engaging array of art throughout the various exhibitions, which have been carefully curated. I was lucky enough to see the Botticelli restoration, which was a great treat as I was expecting to see only contemporary art, but I learned about the Old Masters that was part of the founding collection. The Bass is a small but mighty contemporary art powerhouse on Miami Beach. Run, dont walk.
Amazing and very knowledgeable staff!
Fantastic exhibitions. Family Sundays you dont have to pay - for Florida residence for free. Take your kids and go. Stop by the museum restaurant the selection is limited but so delicious.
By far, the best museum in Miami. The exhibitions that you currently have are just impeccable. So glad to have this place in my city.
Nice exhibits to check out. Just was shorter than we expected.
Great staff and space. Enjoyed the diversity of art. Got to see Better Nights by Mickalene Thomas, it was very well done, very moving.
Well curated contemporary art museum. Tickle your brain then soak yourself in the ocean just outside.
This small museum has recently reopened. We visited when a major exhibit was being installed and they generously charged half price for admission. The exhibits that were available were quite interesting and we were happy to have spent some time away from the bustle of South Beach. Great location at Collins Park. Small and funky art exhibition with a small cafe. It’s a nice break from the frantic South Beach.
Cool museum. Loved some of the exhibits - that big bed is just out of this world - was tempted to get myself locked in for the night. Only negative is the size - it’s a little small - would have preferred a slightly bigger and longer museum to go through.
I would highly recommend going here if youre into unique, weird and complex installations!
Fabulous exhibitions. Recommended. Staff very friendly
A cozy little park worth strolling around for some peace and quiet on the bustling streets of South Beach
Nice small gallery. Art is well presented and can easily see everything in under an hour. Hit and miss on the pieces themselves but thats contemporary art for you. The place was really quiet so we were being followed by security which is a bit unsettling but they were actually really friendly and let us know we could actually interact with a few pieces.
Excellent exhibitions, welcoming and friendly staffs. I enjoyed my visit!
Favorite musuem on the beach
I came here with my family. Right when we walked in we got welcomed from the employees. Very nice and friendly. She also explained to me that if you live in south beach you get free entry. The museum usually costs 10$ per person so that was awesome. The museum is super clean and is very easy to walk around. Usually its not that packed unless they have something going on like art basel or other big events. They do have two floors, sadly have of the first floor was closed when we were there. They do, from my understanding change it up once in a while so they are able to represent different artists.Which makes you wanna come more often. There is also a gift shop with a little cafe in there which pretty much rounds the whole place up.You can take pictures which also makes it a little more fun. All in all its worth going by either way.
My boys and I call it the marshmallow Rocks. It was cute to walk by.
Really nice museum... Not too expensive. You should go.
Well located. great to enjoy a good time.
Cool little museum with friendly staff. You can get in at half price if you have your student ID with you. The exhibits seem to change from year to year to keep things fresh. Cool way to spend an hour down in Miami Beach.
A great diversion from the beach: a charming museum with several galleries for the modern art enthusiast.
Terrible people at the front and back. It was a little busy, first gallery I walk in I start being followed. I have no idea why. I ask if theres a issue and if they belong to the loss prevention unit as I thought museum should be open and not feeling like someone is always watching your every move. Its not a bank. If there is any problems and security is needed just install some cameras. First and last time walking in there. Horrible experience.
CAME HERE & SAW SHEILA.
Thank you BM for the opportunity to see The coronation of the Virgin, it was a special treat. In order to make this rare experience even richer, Id suggest to the museum management to place at least one comfortable bench in front of this 106 X 69 masterpiece. There is a lot to appreciate in it and it may take time. To be fair, there were, in fact, two stools in the room, and I sat on one of them for a brief moment. However, the security man, very politely, told me that the stools were to be used exclusively to watch the video about the restoration of the painting, NOT the painting itself (The painting doesnt seem to deserve a stool, but the movie about the painting, does). Therefore, in other words, in order to stay sitting, the security man instructed me that Id have to turn my body 90 degrees and look at the video monitor on the other wall, not at the painting. I guess that, in order to comply with the rules, if while watching the movie I wanted to look at the painting to relate the movie/restoration work to the artwork itself, Id need to perform a succession of stand ups/turn 90 degrees to face the painting, then turn back the same 90 degrees to face the video monitor, and sit down again. And again and again, as my curiosity demanded. Feels more like being in a gym than in a museum... Let me point out that there were comfortable benches in the other rooms. Another detail, I was accompanying an elderly artist with serious breathing difficulties (for example, he could not climb the stairs to the second floor to see the Sheila Hicks exhibition and the elevators were out of order). He was also told to get up and NOT use the stools to look at the painting. Only to watch the video. Security in the other galleries felt somewhat overbearing as well.On the positive side, today, Sept 29th, was a free admission day, and the ladies at the information counter were super nice and helpful. Thank you again BM.So, 10 mths later, you responded by asking me for more details ???? really? have you even read the review? Maybe you have an automatic system answering all reviews during the corona virus situation. Id suggest you to just say that, we cant address any issues during the covid 19. Sorry. It would be more honest and sound less...
Great space. Entrance is on the East side facing Collins Avenue
Wow! They did an excellent job remodelling this place. You must stop and check it out for sure
What a giant of a cozy museum! I enjoyed every nook and cranny of The Bass. I would call it funky, fun, and meaningful. Make sure Trisha is there and ask her to explain the exhibit where she is - not a docent - but a security guard with volumes of knowledge. I wish I lived in the area so I could return when the exhibits change. (Don’t miss the video installations, they are truly funky.)
I go every Saturday with my daughter they have many activities for children and teens also family activities. They a have a little cafeteria and the costumer service is very good. My daughter is very happy with her classes on Saturday I hope 2019 to see the activities program.
Such a rip off. There is no real art here. They had an exhibit with 3 old air conditioners, two hot plates and two pots. On top of that, security guards are following and staring at you. Really weird and not worth the money. Don’t bother going to this museum if you want to call it that.
1st time. My daughter and friend were excited to attend the museum. Enjoyed the displays. Were taking pictures to show those friends at college.STAFF LADY working at the mattress: VERY RUDE and unprofessional!
Im sorry, except for a few cool art works here, most of them honestly looked like trash. I am happy I was able to get half off with my student discount.
What an amazing museum. The current exhibits are thought provoking, well executed and some are just cute! The guards/guides are so very knowlegable and friendly, a special shout out to Cory on the second level, who made the Paola Pivi exhibit extra enjoyable. We have a new friend in South Beach!
If you are one who appreciates modern and interpretive art, this is an excellent museum to visit. While I am not an avid modern art enthusiast; this museum does have a nice collection of art. It takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 and half hours to visit.
A place for modern day artist with revolutionary Ideas and unlimited creativity. LOVE THE BASS
Not only were the exhibitions great, the security guards were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. Be sure to say hi to Cory in the second floor galleries; he knew everything about the art!
The Bass museum is a contemporary art museum the museum has galleries, a cafe, and a museum shop. They have various artistic works on display at the galleries, and also has 2 small theatres that run art films. The exhibit/ films change every six months. The exhibits are very interesting, and innovative, and somehow portrays the culture and atmosphere of miami. The museum admission fee was 10$ per person (free if you are a Miami resident). But the museum gallery is way too small. I walked through the entire gallery in just a few minutes. I wish the gallery was bigger with more things to see. The ladies that work there as security guards were very rude to us multiple times in that same visit.
We saw the cafe, the hallways... big picture drawn by 3 year old where is art???? Waist of time. I could not describe my disappointed after visiting it. 2 junky museum in 2 days! The broad and the bass. Sucks!
Small museum with a nice collection of works
THIS MUESUM IS MISLEADING THE WEBSITE MADE ME THINK IT WOULD BE EXCITING...THEY HAVE NOT UPDATED THERE WEBSITE TO WHATS GOING ON CURRENTLY IN MUESUM. THERE WAS NOT MANY THINGS TO SEE. DEFINITELY CLEAN ENVIRONMENT THE STAFF WAS NICE. BUT AS FAR AS THERE THINGS TO DO AND SEE THERE WAS NOT MUCH. MY 14 YEAR OLD WAS BUMMED AFTER VISITING THIS MUESUM
Great place, and super friendly staff. Trisha was fantastic, with great sense of humor and broad knowledge about the exhibits. Thanks to her my visit at the Bass was much more exciting. I will definitely visit again when I am back in Miami.
Awesome spot - highly recommended!
Interesting collection of modern art, many pieces are interactive meaning you can touch them & interact with them. Beautiful location & building!
Excellent museum, there were a lot of incredible exhibits, also, is a perfect place for kids to learn about this part of the history.
Great little South Beach spot wait was not bad girl was very attentive and very helpful in and out in about 20 minutes moderately priced for South Beach.. parking is very limited but for a quick in-and-out you can park in the alley in the middle I will definitely try again
Small museum. REALLY enjoyed the exhibits and art films. Fun, thought provoking and creative. This is all contemporary art. Highly recommend, even for some children.
Disappointed... I used to go years ago so not sure what happened. The first floor has two small exhibition rooms that are awesome, after that unfortunately nothing. After inquiring I was told theyre working on more. In and out in 15 min.
Very interesting and different form of contemporary art. Deserves a visit.
One of the few decent museum in miami bch
The building is renovated art basil, w spacious imaginative galleries featuring a multimedia mix of postmodernism. Exhibits have a comic twist Located in the heart of South Beach. Dont forget to visit the renovated public Library next door.
The Museum was as interesting as any small art space we’ve seen. Trisha was amazing. She even made my 80 year old aunt who hasn’t gone to a museum since high school love art.
It’s a nice place to visit. Good exhibitions every so often. Please support here. We deserve a world class local museum.
Art is very subjective. In my opinion, good st is something that evokes a conversation, whether you love it or you hate it. I think bad art is art where you leave feeling indifferent. I thought the installations were cool. They werent really to my taste or liking, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt check it out for yourself.
Excellent museum of contemporary art!!!
Great use of $10! The exhibits are very interesting and entertaining. The staff of the Museum are also very kind and helpful. Highly recommend!
Very precious small modern art museum. Very interesting installations. Well done, food very nice in little cafe.
Waste of $15, but I am not an artist..
After being all over the world and dozens of galleries I can honestly say this is pretty embarrassing. An entire building dedicated to a few large installations that look like they were done by children or the mentally ill. Plan on staying about ten minutes and thats if you really linger. Should be free for everyone or at most a few dollars, not the ten per person we paid. Youre time would be better spent looking at the free murals in the art district. Save yourself time, money and disappointment.
There is a lot of space and nice architecture but its too dull. The elevator is big and nice but it takes like, 30 seconds just to get to the second floor and it takes like 15 seconds going down the stairs to the first floor!
A good small museum to visit with a respectable modern art collection. Trish has an amazing level of knowledge about the art...hopefully youre lucky enough to be there when shes working.
Great little art museum. Nice collection. Interesting exhibitions
I’m here right now and it’s seriously the most boring museum ever. Don’t choose to come here by the photos posted on here because they told us the exhibits change every 6 months. Nothing posted on here is there now. Don’t waste your $10 here. I would give it zero stars if I could. I’ve been to plenty of FREE museums that have more interesting things than this place. This musuem makes you lose hope in what is actually considered “art.” If you put a few chairs in a room with a few fake plants, a loop of children screaming and dim the light, that’s “art”??? If you like to look at wood with a nail hammered into it then this place is for you! And don’t forget the pedestal with a rotaty phone on it; that will blow your mind! If you want to waste your 15 minutes that it takes to walk through, go stand out on the sidewalk and watch people walk by. That is far more entertaining. Or even better, drive to Wynwood and look at the true ART there for free.
Lovely museum and grounds. We spent about 45 minutes and enjoyed the mix of contemporary and Renaissance art.
I was really impressed by the level of detail of the exhibitions
Its a quaint place with a very helpful and knowledgeable staff of people. They seem to take an active interest in the quality of the guests experience.
Cool gallery and only $5 with student ID. A little on the small side though, can be toured in 2 hours or less.
Great place. Staff is not only friendly but well educated. Trisha told me everything about each piece at the exhibition room.
A jewel box of a museum! An impressive collection of old masters cohabiting with the latest and best in contemporary art in a coral stone building.
Very unique exhibits. Offers free entry monthly.
This was our first visits as adults to a modern art museum. 2 teenagers plus a 10 year old. The teenies and adults were very interested in the different exhibits, and it contributes to many interesting conversations. Mika rottenbergs galleries especially, not for everyone...but it makes you think. However, this is not a museum for kids. The staff is not child friendly and believes instead of approaching the parent first if concerns arise about possible misbehavior, they bark orders at kids. No... please dont do that, no instructions at the ticket counter of what parents should expect coming in with younger kids. The security guards made us feel very uncomfortable to a point that we almost left. Our approach of asking for more politeness was brushed off. As said before, the pieces of the museum are a great thought provoker. But dont bring your kids in. Its stressful to be followed by staff and talked to this way.
Very interesting
Very nice in a good place to take in some art which is away from the hustle and bustle of the beach and gives you some time to think.
Excellent place to visit. Staff was very nice and educated regarding the exhibition.
Nice museum and a great place to cool off and see the thoughtful display of art work available
If you want to insulted and yelled at by Trisha and her team then go to this place! Absolutely the rudest security I have ever seen. The sad thing is that she is a manager over there as well, running the museum like she runs a night club. The art collection is not special either. I wish google allows a zero star rating.
Great staff and nice exhibition. Something I recommend.
Very cool scenery very busy area but its Miami and the stone structure is heavily pleasant on the eyes
Very nice museum and customer service
FYI Miami Beach is working with the homeless problem in all their parks. Now they have a Park Ranger stationed at Collins Park where the Bass is.I saw no homeless at night . Miami Beach will always have homeless BUT it is MUCH BETTER !! Give Collins Park another try.
Fairly small museum. Plan to spend
Go with an open mind. Youll come out with one.
