A beautiful theatre space that sets the tone for fun events and great performances. The professional company at POTS is fantastic. Many regional premiers of Broadway plays and award winning shows.
A well-known, 2 level performing arts theater in the heart of Midtown. The main reason they stand out from the rest is their consistently affordable ticket prices and work with the citys youth. Ive been coming here and seeing different shows throughout my whole life and Im pleased it has remained true to its nature. Acting can be quite uplifting and influential. This venue has become come a staple in Memphis.
I actually went to a birthday party here. It was a pleasure to be at this fabulous, spacious, cozy if you like to give a occasion. Clean, nice, and comfortable. I would be more than happy to have whatever here. The parking was great too. Truly enjoyed myself
Went to see Peter Pan with the Fam and we had a great time! Cast was funny, energetic and entertaining. Would definitely be seeing more plays there.
Nice venue but if you get seats on the side depending on the stage and the play somethings you wont be able to see but other than that we had a great time!!! P.S. we saw Memphis the Musical
My daughter took an acting class for her age group and had a blast performing a small Alice in Wonderland play. Were looking forward to experience more fun things here!
Exciting production of the musical Memphis with an excellent cast and music. Comfortable seating and friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommended
I thought the Playhouse on the Square was a very nice place, not too cramped either. Junie B. Jones was excellent, and the young lady playing her was amazing, as were the other performers. Solid 10/10.
Great venueThe staff is awesome. We were here for the UPTA auditions. Everyone and everything was professional and made sure all ran smoothly.
Saw Kinky Boots and it was fantastic! Oh my goodness the actors were so great, the singing was incredible, the emotional delivery was compelling and I thoroughly enjoyed it. First time to the theater and was really impressed. Bought season tickets! Need I say more?
A wonderful theatre with rich character, colorful ambience and savvy shows which rival big metro city venues in style, quality and talent!
Went and met with a young lady about renting out the venue for my wedding. After the meeting she promised to email more info about pricing, availability, etc. After I emailed her three separate times there still was no word. Almost as if she is ignoring me or doesnt want my business. Really hurt my feelings mainly because the location would be perfect for my wedding. I wont disclose her name but Im pretty sure its only one lady over event rentals.
Playhouse on the Square: Matilda The MusicalI had a wonderful time watching Matilda The Musical. I am a longtime fan of the film adaptation and looked forward to this interpretation. I laughed, cried and nearly died during this riveting, colorful and engaging performance. Such a talented cast and crew! Side note - Parking will be difficult to find so make sure to come early.
Amazing performers the music was incredible. Angelo Rupan is absolutely fantastic as well as the actors, dancers and orchestra
Saw the Peter Pan play past time I was here. It was a wonderful show.
Just saw Peter Pan, my group of five adults were the oldest in the audience. However, we were very entertained and enjoyed very talented young actors and actresses!
Went to see Memphis the musical here as was having a community day where you donated a fee to watch, AMAZING...
Great spot for local live theater. High quality entertainment!
My wife and I took our two granddaughters and a neighbor to see Matilda, and for the most part, we really enjoyed it. The actors were great, the singing was really good, but the dialogue was really hard to understand because its being delivered in too heavy of an accent to reflect the original story. We Americans from Tennessee have a hard time picking up on the lines delivered in that manner. The highlight of the show for us is when the young man(Steele) who plays Bruce belts out the song at the end of the production! Now there is a talent! All in all, great show at a superb facility!
We bought a years subscription to this theater group when we moved to the area last summer. We couldnt be more delighted with our decision. The varied offerings and quality of the the productions have made us subscribe to next season, too. Although we have only seen productions at the Playhouse on the Square, which is a wonderful, intimate venue, we look forward to seeing offerings at the other two theaters. Each season there seems to be a wonderful mix of musicals, dramas, kids performances, old standards and plays by new, upcoming playwrights. This is a Memphis gem!
Small theaters, fair ticket prices, wonderful performances, casual atmosphere. No need to dress up, usually. Flip-flops are welcome. I took my husband to see a play here for the first time and he laughed and enjoyed it so much he keeps asking when well go again. We had a great time!
Great place to watch a show! Lots of different discounts available (first responders, teachers, etc.) City Saver has buy one get one coupon for tickets!
Nice place for ballet shows
Went to see Peter Pan today, play was fabulous kids loved it, were in the balcony seats and we were still able to see everything really well
We do the education classes here and they are amazing, inclusive, and empowering.
Update: Playhouse on the Square reached out to me to discuss what happened and offered to honor my tickets for the next upcoming show. I really appreciate that that they did that and look forward to it!!Original: I made a reservation over the phone with 3 sponsorship tickets. The lady I spoke with told me she had my tickets reserved and ready and that I would just have to pick them up at will call the night of the performance. I came to the performance tonight and surprise- they did not have my tickets nor any recollection of my reservation. We were really looking forward to seeing the show and extremely disappointed that someone dropped the ball.
Just great. I love it all
The playhouse was great, as was the performance I attended. My only concern was that I was not allowed to check messages on my phone during the performance, even though I needed to be able to check since I left my baby at home. Later I walked to the hallway to check my phone and while waiting for an interlude to open the doors to come back in, I missed 1/3 of the play.
Saw Memphis the musical. Another awesome production!!
Great atmosphere...used to volunteer in this building and never knew there was a rooftop for entertaining. You cant go wrong having a function here.
2nd time we have been here on a school field trip and both time it was GREAT!
Great plays, wonderful atmosphere. I absolutely adore Playhouse on the Square!
I saw Matilda here and it was one of the best plays I have ever gone to!
Great professional theater with offerings for the entire family.
A beautiful intimate theatre in the arts district just outside the heart of Memphis.
I love going to the The Great Wine Performances every year!!
It was my birthday, I saw KINKY boots, it was fantastic and the theatre was beautifully done with concrete and great lighting
A terrific city theatre. No bad seats. Excellent sound and the productions here are top notch!
A fun place for date night. Would have rated it 5 stars if you didnt have to physically go in to pick up the tickets beforehand.
Great local playhouse. Saw On golden pond.
Great performance by Mark Pergolizzi & Teri Feigelson in On Golden Pond. Give it 5 stars.
Beautiful performance especially by Eileen Frazer!
What a terrific job was done with this facility!
Great place to see a show. Well worth the money to see up and coming talent. Memphis has a great theater scene and Playhouse is certainly a part.
Great place to learn or hone your acting or dancing skills.
We saw Matilda the Musical, had a Crunchem-themed cocktail, and thoroughly enjoyed the show!
Great local theater! Quality shows and very reasonable prices.
Great venue for live theatre produced locally.
There are quite a few selections of theaters in the Midtown Memphis area. Maybe too many if you ask my opinion but still that part doesnt matter. What does matter is that this is one of The Originals and an all-time favorite of several to go and see the Arts at. I love that they do programs for all types such as children and even people who dont have much acting experience at all but want to experience maybe acting in a play or just doing some work with the theater in general just to see what it is like if they are good at it or just to get a start
A memphis treasure. The remarkably high quality productions in an intimate theatre setting are not to be missed.
Saw on golden pond it was really good
Centrally located in Overton Square, with incredible talent at each and every performance.
Great place to see plays and host parties
Went a watch a gentleman guide to love and murder. Awesome play. And they lady at the front took us to our seats. Awesome experience!!
I and the kids really enjoyed it. Im giving it a 5 star..
Love this place. Be it on the stage of in the audience. Its become.a.Memphis staple. If you havent seen a play here ANY play you havent quite experience the plethora of RAW talent this city is filled with.
Tamburrino Inc invited clients to enjoy a play and a catered event. The Playhouse on the Square as a venue with entertainment was fabulous!
This place has really upped its game. Great material and great talent.
Great local live, professional theater! Building is well designed for actors and the audience. Performances are excellent. Just saw 9 to 5 and happily danced out after final curtain call.
Excellent! Kinky Boots
Loved the play. The staff & volunteers were excellent.
Great performance of SWEAT!Well acted, powerful script, needs to be seen.
Ive seen several shows here. Some have been spectacular. Some have been okay.
Love taking my daughter to plays here! She always enjoys it and she gets to experience the arts instead of being on a tablet all day! :)
Great show and a good venue
Great live theater, lots of talented performersWith an extremely friendly staff.
Upscale outing with a date but take care in where you park and stay safe!
Playhouse is the go to! Just left from seeing Kinky Boots. It is a must see!
Quality theater performances
My daughter and I loved Matilda!
The Playhouse is an excellent attraction for the city. I thoroughly enjoyed the decor and the musical play, A Gentlemans Guide to Love and Murder.
Not a bad seat in the house. An intimate crowd, great mix of local and traveling talent and a staff that makes you feel right at home. Had a great time at Once!
I have been going here for years to see various plays. The building is beautiful and always clean. The staff is friendly and energized. They also give honest advice on shows.
We saw Peter Pan and Once here recently. There is not a bad seat in the house. The company cast is great. We cant wait to see more.
First class and local.
Not a bad seat in the house. Quality local theatre productions and excellent facility
Very intimate theatre, not a bad seat in the house.
Fun little place
Great performances. Wonderful childrens and youth classes.
Fantastic local theater
Great atmosphere. Collage Dance Collective performed. Great show.
One of the best performance spaces in the midsouth!
This is like my home away from home. Love this spot.
Love this theatre! Great shows for all ages and best of all, limited parking is avail for free as well!! The kids acting class are the best!
Another great theater experience.
Great performances always! From original works to Broadway & off Broadway plays, the action is always great#
Great local professional theater company. Nice variety of showd
Playhouse is a great example of what a local theatre is supposed to be. Talented local and regional actors perform quality, well known plays and musicals. The seats are comfortable and the isles have plenty of footroom. The tiered rows provide good views no matter how tall the hair of the lady in front of you is. Also, there are no bad seats! On the floor or on upper levels, every seat has a good view. Also, the stage is wide and deep enough to put on a variety of shows and handle large sets. Also, They offer wine for $6 a glass which you can bring into the theatre.Ticket prices are extremely reasonable. Their individual ticket pricing is usually only $20. They have a pay what you can night where you can get multiple tickets for great prices. Its the season tickets are the real prize. You buy a block of tickets that you can use however you want. Use two tickets each show or bring all your friends to a single show. Thats great flexibility.
Just saw Million Dollar Quartet - fantastic. I had also seen this at the Orpheum. Both are great venues and put on quality productions. Orpheum, being larger, can do bigger productions, set changes, etc. POTS, being smaller, is a more intimate setting, I was in the balcony but could clearly see the actors changing expressions. The cast for this show was really good, especially Jerry Lee Lewis.
Lovely facility!
Saw Laughter on the 23rd Floor and loved seeing wonderful actors giving amazing performances. Spectacular management and box office.
Uhh ....AMAZING. DUH!!!
Nice building an dnice people
