It was great to visit the Stockton house and interpretive center (twenty years since our last visit). Bob our tour guide and his wife were lovely and super knowledgeable! The house is a sleeper and a tour de force inside!Visit the newly restored FLW Historic Inn as well. So many cool old houses to see.
Beautiful home. Odd neighborhood. Museum closed.
Beautiful house and location, didnt do tour due to time constraints. Interpretive center was great, a lot of good information. Definitely a must see for Frank Lloyd Wright fans.
Posted here that its open, but its not. Cool on the outside, but terribly disappointed no one is here!
The new models on display are awesome and the gift shop has a lot of great items. And of course the house... the tours are definitely worth it!
Lovely fine design by Frank Lloyd Wright
Worth getting off the highway for the one hour tour. The house is more modest than other wright homes but still a beauty and had been meticulously restored. If you have more time, the gift shop sells a $5 guide book of a walking tour of prairie home style homes by Wright contemporaries. The gift shop and first floor of the house is wheelchair accessible.
Perfect tour guide. Perfect size for the tour. Loved the house and all I learned
One of only three of Wrights Fireproof House for $5000 built, and the only one open to the public. Beautifully restored, one can see so many of the signature design elements which Wright developed and used in his architecture. The tour was quite interesting. The adjacent interpretive center offers lots of info on the Prairie School structures in the Mason City area and is well worth the time to visit.
Surrounding neighborhood has many wonderful examples of FLW designs, as well as homes and commercial buildings where architects were heavily influenced by his designs. The neighborhood is absolutely beautiful (stunning fall foliage in quintessential American town) and is easily accessible on foot and is primarily handicap accessible (although there are some gradual hills). Unfortunately, the home closed just as we arrived, however, the museum and gift shop were open. The couple who were the docents for the day were just about as lovely as complete strangers can be. Knowledgeable about FLW and his contemporaries, they easily answered any questions I had. The gift shop is first rate. The shop and museum are handicap accessible, however, I dont think the actual home is ADA. Mason City was a gem where we would gladly spend more time. An unexpected bright spot while we were stuck in the area whilst waiting for RV repairs.
A Must stop when in Mason City. Great selection of Architecture related gifts. Knowledgeable staff. Pick up a copy of the architectural driving guide map. Lots to see and learn while in town.
A fine example of Wrights work. Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. I gave it 5 stars, not 3.
Factual display. Friendly docents.
Only viewed from the outside, it is well preserved. Gives some understanding of the times.
Really great tour. Allocate 60 minutes for the tour. It costs $10.
The Stockman house is a great asset for Mason City. The interpretive Center has many resources and a gift shop.
Very interesting tour of this Frank Lloyd Wright house. Our docent Suzanne was very knowledgable about both the house and the family who commissioned it.
Lovely restoration and very knowledgeable docent. The neighborhood was amazing.
Beautiful well preserved house
Costs $10 to get inside. No photos allowed inside. About a 45 minute tour. Short video first in the visitor center next door.
