The LVO YMCA has made these crazy times a lot easier on working parents. They help our kindergarten child do his zooms, guide him in the kindergarten curriculum, and play and have fun, all in a safe environment.

The Y has done an excellent job trying to support the community and restart important programs for our children with safety as their first concern. My 2 year old son absolutely loves his swimming lessons with Jeff -- which have been the highlight of our familys week since they started. We love seeing the kids (and adults) programs being hosted outside as an additional safety precaution while the weather is nice -- its a small, but important, return to normalcy.

The workout areas have been very thoughtfully laid out amidst all the Covid19 concerns. Feels safe to visit and I absolutely appreciate the way the staff seems to be doing a great job keeping things clean and safe. Kudos to them all.

I primarily use my membership for the gym space. There is ample equipment and even at popular times there is rarely long waits. The space is clean and organized with everything I need. The locker rooms are clean and large enough to accommodate members.

The staff at the Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA is very friendly and accommodating. Im always greeted with a smile and a willingness to help (as Im a new member as of Mar. 2, 2020 through the Cornerstone Program and a member of the YWBC Support Group that meets there monthly.) :-)

The gym is maintained very well, Keith does an incredible job and really makes the place a wonderful facility. His attention to detail and friendly attitude make coming to the gym that much easier. The upgrades this fall were amazing!

Wish i could go to the gym i pay for after work on Friday and the weekend. I dont understand why you guys close so early? How come no ones thought of a 24/7 YMCA? Thats the only reason people go to Planet Fitness.

They regularly overcharge you and when you have an issue they give you attitude. Simple transactions and service have needless problems and they dont seem like mistakes. This place is extremely poorly run. Too bad, because they have nice facilities when they are available.

I dont have a lot of complains, but closing the whole gym for a week is really one of the stupidest idea. Close parts of it at a time while you are doing work.

Its a great and friendly place, I love it, It just needs some micro management. I do laps at Lynch YMCA and I have a suggestions, many times that I go, the trainers or children (on weekends) are using the lanes that are reserved for laps and the life guards dont keep the lanes clear so you assume that there are no lanes open. The little kids play in any lane of the big pool, although they have the childrens pool, the outdoor pool and several lanes of the big pool. Please ask the trainers and life guards to keep the lanes for laps clear. I understand that it is all about the kids but we only get two lanes during classes and weekends, please help us.

They are very good at automatically charging your credit card, but have a total disregard for providing the service. Do not believe their online pool schedule. Do not even believe the front desk. They’ll promise your kids a warm water pool with slides but when you show up at a scheduled time, thet’ll tell you “sorry, it’s closed”.

I hope you read this review and make the improvement.First, I am having the y membership because of the nice school staff of the Y that I met 6 years ago. They were very nice and helpful that made me loyal to the Y even with the very high monthly fee compare to other gym.Second, because of the swimming pool that my children love.I chose Marblehead Y because of the convenient and the nice children pool. However, this Y needs improvement on customer services and communication. The last issue I had was yesterday. I took my children to the pool, while trying to use one of the floating devices as usual, one of the employees approached me asking to put it back and use a floating jacket instead, witch is not comfortable. I did not like that suggestion and I asked if there is any new policy. she took my email to give it to her supervisor and he’ll contact me for clarification. While talking to her, my daughter mentioned a little swimmer with that same device. I asked the employee for that and she told me that it is her own device. I had to force my children to put the devices back and get the jackets instead just to avoid any farther conflict.I just want to know, do I have to bring my own swimming devices? If yes, please put a note or add it to the swimming pool policy. Also, it is going to be easy to put a NOT USE sign on that shelf. As I know, the Y is a non profit organization witch is from People and to the people. I think it is good to ask for improvement suggestions and vote for any before execution. The men locker room just got renewed. Special thanks to that, but replacing the steam-room with a sauna was a bad decision. Additionally, this sauna is note even good. I met a lot of unsatisfied users and unfortunately I am one of them. Please, try to keep your Y’s users satisfied. Communicate and be prepared to answer questions. Common sense is to make a comfortable space for your people in order to make the Y more then a GYM.Loyal user.

Been a member for over 5 years. Used to be a great place. Recently heard the Ex. Director bragging to an outside vendor that it was built for 8000 and current membership was 16,000. That may be good for revenue but not member experience. Recent locker room renovation was a disaster. They took out the steam room, 75% of the lockers and put in a modular sauna like you would find in a home. It makes the locker room feel like a steam room when you mix the heat with the showers. No worries though.....with so few lockers and only 3 benches you dont want to change there anyway!!

Clean gym but pretty poor layout as far as work out equipment and the actual gym goes. In this giant gym, there is one punching bag that hangs in the middle of a stretch/yoga floor which is absurd. If you are training you will drive the other people nuts. For this size of gym this should be accommodated in a designated are - Greater Beverly YMCA is about similar size and it is 100% better layout, alot more equipment. This place seems loke it only focuses on ita programs and the gym part of it is just there because they have to have it.

I sent my kid to surf camp at the YMCA. So first he went to the wrong side of the beach where there is no waves, but that was fine. Then they made them ware life jackets, which they forgot one so kind of useless. But it was kind of understandable because all the kids were over 10 but 12 and under, and all the kids knew how to swim. But they only let them go to there knees, so first of all at knee hight, you can’t really drown, and second there is no waves at knee deep water. Also they were out of the water for a very long time. This was over $400 I think.

Great facility, awesome outdoor pool, unfortunately they did a remarkably bad job in the life guard department. There was one guard for over 30 kids and he was 25 feet away from the pool flirting with a girl. For over an hour he completely ignored his job but somehow he did find time to check his texts. I just could not believe this YMCA is so negligent

I have been in a few YMCAS that are nice, but this one is awesome. They have swimming pools inside and outside. I was there for my grand daughters birthday party. This is a wonderful place. Everyone go see for yourself. Oh yeah, bring the children. LOL theyll have fun too.

Really appreciate this y, with one exception: the mens locker room. The ventilation is inadequate, and now the management has to make up for it with a huge noisy fan. Today I went to take a shower after working out, and was hit in the face with a steady stream of water because the shower head was missing! There are routinely wet paper towels on the floor, and the sinks are never wiped down after use. The locker room needs to be checked once an hour just for minor cleaning, but someone at the main desk told me it only gets checked once in the morning and then once later in the day. This is totally inadequate. Dont enjoy being critical, because the Personnel here is so friendly and its a great facility. I filled out suggestion cards several times, with no apparent effect. To end on a positive note, I still love coming here!

This Y used to be my favorite but after the disastress renovation to the mens locker room taking away the steam room that 80% of the users of the locker room use on daily basis and which used to fit at least 6 to 8 pepole sitting + 2 standing which i saw numerous times, then change it for a small microwave of a sauna that is used not for gym’s but for homes and taking away 60+ metal lockers i mean full locker for cheap haf lockers that was compacted in a corner of the locker room with the mini sauna which are defective and not working last two times iv been there pepole were complaining that there belongings got stolen because no sign says they are not working,And now we have the full left side of the locker room with macys loking like changing room which noooooo one uses.Been a daily user of the pool i have to mention that the hot small pool is always close even that the schedule shows that it should be open if you finish ur laps and whant a quick dip in the pool the one lifeguard will be quick to come to you and tell you that its close and that there is no life guard there happened to me twice in one week overall it look like there is no care and lack of well guided managment.

This YMCA used to be a great way place for adults as well as children. It has completely changed and members are not valued or provided a safe environment for children. Kids used to be able to got to the Y later in the afternoon or after dinner and shoot hoops with friends in the gym throughout the week. This is no longer the case! Basketball leagues have taken priority over membership privileges. For several months my children have been unable to go. The gym is only available until 4 most weekdays. Anyone with preteen/teenage boys know that they don’t even get it of school until 2:15 or 2:30 some schools are not out until 3:15 in Marblehead making it impossible to use the open gym their membership is supposed to come with. This includes Friday night where boys would always enjoy going to the gym and staying later with friends. They can do that now! No open gym after 4. Boys don’t want to go swimming with friend do they basically have know where to go to work off their energy and socialize. My boys and their friends would always go 3 to 4 times a week after school now they haven’t been able too! Which makes it hard to excersze and use the Y as a family when your kids come up asking to leave because there is no where for them to go. We have been members since this Y opened and have never had this problem and we pay $95 a month. Also when there is open gym on the weekends it is dominated by the Basketball league players who decide to come practice and have bullied my kids and their friends on multiple occasions. Kids come in and say the F word N word my kids have been called snowflake and white boy. My kids done feel safe and I wouldn’t feel safe dropping them off even during open gym. We have complained and nothing has been done. Members no longer matter here! It is not our Y anymore kids with memberships are not welcomed or provided a safe environment. Even when the leagues are done the face that members took second place and whenever leagues start again the same thing will happen is very concerning. We pay for open gym for our kids and shouldn’t have to be restricted in the way we have been. I am sure their are plenty of other gyms that care more about their members. If you thinking of signing up look elsewhere first. It’s a shame considering the Marblehead community is so small it was always like family at this Y. Kids would always see friends and feel safe not anymore.
