This park is suddenly amazing, in order to understand what I mean you have to visit the whole park. The Bison area is a great place to get a feel for the mid western natural world. The waterfall is a rral natural beauty I see why artist come to places like this for inspiration and why conservationists and park rangers come here to learn and train. Bring your mosquito spray!!! Consider yourself warned!!!

Fun place to go on a hike or even a run. Plenty of maps and small monuments there. If memory serves, there is a large rock with a time capsule buried underneath.I didn’t realize that the park had buffalo there so that was a nice surprise. Very cool to see at a relatively close distance! The waterfalls were impressive too!

This park is beautiful and has something for everyone. We went when it was 50° and the day after Thanksgiving. So it was very busy at the Falls, and you definitely want to bring and wear a mask at the Falls in this time of covid-19. We will go back sometime when we have more time for the other trails, and the buffalo/bison are a little more active.

Campsites A2 + A4 are SO cool. While in the campground, they offered a great escape from the throngs of other campers. We enjoyed our sites as well as the Bison drive, hiking around the perimeter of the Bison enclosure, the Mill, and the Falls as well. A park to keep you busy for a weekend, yet all sites relatively easy to access.

Great views. The trail is paved long enough to take a stroller to see the waterfall. There is a stairs, to be able to walk Along the creek bed. Good place to take pictures. There is a Bison enclosure that can be driven through. They have an AM station that describes the history of the location and information about bison.

Beautiful views, the falls are very picturesque. The bison trail was pretty, the bison were at the furthest possible pint. We saw many people turn back, joke was on them as the bison were close enough to touch!

We really enjoyed our stay! The campground, restroom & showers were clean. The staff were friendly. Our campsite was partly shaded & surrounded by trees so we had some privacy. We thought the waterfalls & bison range were awesome! We will definitely be returning to this site! I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this park!

Really nice with year round camping...but there are train tracks and road noise so if that bothers you, beware. Lots of good hiking.

Great park to go hiking. The waterfalls were spectacular and the buffalo drive was lots of fun. We will definitely have to come back when we havent had so much rain, causing the water to be so high!!

Its a swamp. Lots of interesting insects about... Bring a mosquito shade structure. Bring mosquito repellent. Bring mosquito coils. Also, check the weather forecast, bring rain gear if necessary. Bringing a bicycle for all the trails helps. Great Bison watching when they are out, park is super close to Mankato. Lots to do.

What a lovely park! There are trails and bridges and parking. Two waterfalls! You will need to get a permit to enter the park. The permit station is at the entrance. Enjoy!

This was a beautiful place, you get to see the buffalos up close and the views are amazing. The wind mill is interesting to look at.

Definitely check out the falls and also the Bison and old wind-mill on the other side. There is a short hike down to the lower falls which might be challenging to young children or the elderly, but its a beautiful sight! A longer hike can be found around the Bison paddock along the river and up to the old windmill. The falls side is great for a picnic.

Incredible, natural beauty! Sooooo many buffalo! Bison came right up to the car! Very cool place! No bison all day until about 6:45 or so...then they were everywhere! Great hiking trails, but bring bug spray and/or long sleeves, as the mosquitos and flies were awful! A must see though! Buffalo!

Minneopa Falls is a very easy hike- a very short walk to view the falls. You can also take the stairs to the bottom of the falls. At the end of bison trail is an old wind mill.

Gorgeous park! Bison on one side, waterfalls on the other, hiking all-around. Plenty of space for a picnic, not overcrowded. Theres really something for everyone here.

Smaller State Park but perfectly lovely for a day trip. Got there at open & went to Falls first. Easy walk and beautiful view. Not many people at 8:30am. Than went over to Bison Drive - got a wonderful view of the Bison & prairie restoration from the Mill Area. The hiking trails where easy to follow either through the forest & around the Bison enclosures or through a flood plain down to the MN River. Understandably the trails around the Bison enclosures are more rustic. And bring bug spray !

GORGEOUS park and waterfalls. I only wish I had brought bug spray along, or wed have enjoyed more of the extensive trail system. Bison drive is a neat idea, but if you really want a chance at seeing any, head up to the old mill & overlook to see the whole 330+ acre reserve.

This is our favorite place to go when we come down here! The bison are amazing to see, cheap $7 entrance fee, and a wonderful experience!

We really enjoyed our day trip to Minneopa State Park and falls. The picnic area was very spacious and the falls were easily accessible. We also drove to the bison range. The day we were there the bison were at the watering hole, located right after we entered. We drove up to the mill and the lookout area was beautiful with lots of wild flowers. We spent about 2-3 hours. Wanted to walk to the river, but it was a really hot day so we opted not to. Would recommend for people of all ages.

This place is unique and very beautiful. The area around the waterfalls is very built up (not quite what I was expecting). The hiking around the bison enclosure is gorgeous!

Beautiful park. Loved the buffalo trial. Ample walking trails and gorgeous scenery. Only down fall was no electricity at the camping units. However we will be back just because of the pure beauty

This is a review mostly of the campground. If you can help it, camp anywhere else. This campground is next to a wet land.. Our Campsite was next to a swamp not marked in the map. The bugs were so so bad we couldnt leave the tent... Many of the sites were flooded. Dont camp here.. The actual park was nice.. The bison road was cool and the water fall was a nice climb. Maybe a good day trip but dont send the night.

Visited Minneopa State Park today. Restrooms are closed, only one outhouse available to use. Visitor center closed, ranger station/ gift shop closed. Seems like it is only a place to visit for local people. Did the drive to see buffalo which ends in a turn around.

This is a spectacular state park for a family day trip. It’s easy to drive to, being near major highways. Roads within the park are dirt or gravel, spacious enough for tow vehicles going opposite directions to easily pass at the same time, and clearly labeled making driving to the various sites within the park easy. The views were among the moser scenic and dramatic that the Minnesota River Valley has to offer. It felt like stepping back in time to when the Dakota nation lived freely on this land, when the Tetanka (Buffalo) ruled.We arrived on a day that alternate between downpour and sunshine. To see the buffalo, we parked in a small lot and walked about 3/4 of a mile along mostly dirt roads and paths, that was muddy in some parts, sandy in others. Along the way we passed the old grain mill and grain crib, very many beautiful wild flowers, and dramatic views from above the river valley. There was a spot with some “stairs” cut into the dirt of the hill and wood beams set to hold the “stairs” in place. The walk was easy for younger and older children and adults. Though it works every difficult for a walking baby or toddler new to walking, for anyone with knee or ankle problems that makes walk on unstable and uneven surfaces difficult, or an older or sick person who cannot walk far distances. While a relatively short walk for a lightly tight moderately active person, the changes in the surface going from dry dirt, to mud, to sand and mixtures of the three, as well as the deep grooves and sudden dips in the surfaces required attention be paid to where ones feet went to avoid spraining an ankle or tripping. If at any point the walk proves difficult, it is easy to turn back around and go back. There were benches in the higher ground area near to the grain milll where one cousin rest or just take in the view. Informative signs provide much education so reading. And during the drive through the park to the lot there are opportunities to see the buffalo from the comfort of one’s vehicle.It was amazing seeing buffalo up close. They were bigger than I had imagined, and I imagined they’d be big. Their presence felt serious and strong, and no one with me was goi g to try touching one nor offer food - which signs earn not to do because they are dangerous. But they also gave off a tranquil peaceful feeling. It was surreal. They are truly majestic creatures. It was like stepping back in time to see the raw landscape and wilderness that all of this land once was. The raw beauty and potential ... it was easy to see why settlers pushed westward and fought to take over this fertile territory. It was also heart breaking to see the splendor that was destroyed in doing such ... and to think of thousands slaughtered in that genocide. It is my sincere hope that by visiting places like this, we can reflect on the wrongs and destruction of our society and actively work to be better.

Wonderful place, many spots to explore. Waterfalls are beautiful, bison sanctuary is amazing.

Bison drive is a wonderful stretch of road to take in nature. It is also good to see bison. This spring the bison here had many calves. It is educational and fun watching them grow.

Trails around the falls were closed, disappointing, the other trails were nice, grass and gravel trails, alot of mosquitoes though, and the bison were not out during my time there.

Loved this little falls area hiking trails and biking trails. Got a chance to checkout both and it was definitely worth the trip. We will definitely be back to check our more of the area soon as possible

Nice small state park... bison herd was close to the road so easy to view.I sure hope I get my yearly state park sticker I paid for at the entrance!

The waterfall is beautiful! You can walk right down by the big one. Campsites looked nice but very close together and not by water. The trails are hard to navigate. The bison were the best part of the park! Would love to go back when you can drive through with your car. Theres a nice overlook if you walk up to the mill. The mill itself is overrated. Overall great park!

Good camping Nice secluded spots. Plenty of room. Not enough electric sites tho. Will be back!

Two fun things to do. See some bison up close in your car. You can also walk around the outside of the bison area pretty easily. Maybe four miles total. Also near there is a great two stage water fall. Everything is easy to get to from your car.We went on a Saturday afternoon and it was not super busy, easy to find parking.You do need a park pass, but you can get one there or buy ahead of time online.

Really liked the place. It was quite crowded when we went today. Apparently today was a no-permit required day and we didnt know about that. Since most state parks arent fully open, the restrooms were all closed and there was only one mobile restroom available and there was quite a long queue for it. The falls was very beautiful and its origin stream was safe and accessible even for kids. There were enough benches and park area to relax and play. Can easily spend 3-4 hrs here.

Really nice multiple waterfalls. Hiking path is not well maintained at all. It was very dangerous and we needed up turning around 3/4 of the way for self preservation. Would go back if the parks department spends a bit on on the paths!]

A hidden gem in southern Minnesota. The main attraction is the double falls that are easy to access with paved sidewalks and ramps to the upper level and a viewing area to see the main falls. For those willing to take the stairs there is a path to go below the falls along the sandstone valley. Its also worth the quick drive over to the plains and Minnesota river side of the park. The bison range to the Seppman Mill gives you the chance to see some bison up close and a wonderful view of the river valley. The campground offers many sites that are spaced apart so you do not feel on top of each other.

Beautiful area. Falls are majestic. Good for whole family. A bit of a hike to get to bottom. But most of it is stairs.

Waterfalls were nice, but crowded. Lots of teenagers swimming at the bottom being loud despite contamination levels being since it was a rainy day. All restrooms were closed and the hut things that they did have were terribly dirty. Id rather have peed outside. Probably the buggiest trails weve been on. The mossy stairs were beautiful though. Bison drive was also really neat.

Great place to visit. We were in mankato for a bmx race and stopped to see the falls. It just happend to be on a Wednesday so the road through the buffalo was closed. We plan to stop again another time. I would highly recommend a visit to Minneopa state park.

Did the bison drive. Wow! We were so close you could look them in the eye. The herd was about 30 head with all age ranges from calves to old bulls. Great adventure and worth seeing.

I love this park! Great hiking and biking trails. The camping areas are well kept too. They even have a few camper cabins for rent. Driving through the buffalo enclosure is always great, we have seen the buffalo a lot! Been to the park a few times now and I am never disappointed

What a fun couple of hours spent here!

The hike down to the falls was nice - not too long for little kids, but long enough and with enough upside to be worth it. The Bison Road wasnt too busy and the Bison made an appearance. This was a nice park to visit.

As always the waterfalls are beautiful. And the walk up to the viewing point is easy. This Park is one of my favorites because its a little bit of nature on the edge of the small City of Mankato.

Amazing lake view and good location for photos

Clear signage directing visitors to the falls or the buffalo drive. Self-serve kiosk for daily admission accepts only credit cards. The group campground could use better signage; we found our site by exploring. Not the easiest thing with 20+ people trailing in your wake! Few bugs to contend with. Lots of shade. Trails were a bit on the narrow side for good social distancing between unknown groups.

The park landscape is 5 stars right now bathrooms are verry limited lots of people on Sunday when I was there. I would suggest going on a week day instead. The water falls and stream is breathtaking! Some of path is difficult.

The park has a lot of gorgeous places, but its extremely crowded, and every single inch of sandstone has been graffitied. Its a real shame.

Traveling and needed to kill a few hours so stopped here for a hike. First went to the falls. Beautiful! Picnic tables are there if you want to have a picnic. Then hiked the 5 mile loop around the buffalo preserve. Easy hike. Takes 2 hours. Saw buffalo afar!

Really enjoyed the drive thru the park. The bison herd was all over the road close to the truck.

I thought it was a pretty cool place. Had to walk down the trail from the mill tho to actually see any bison. And one had a huge sore on it. Otherwise pretty cool place. Both the bison enclosure and the falls

A good place for a variety of hike lengths. Falls were running with force afyer recent rains. Bison were resting in the mud along the road. It was a good day.

The falls are beautiful. But the amount of people that were there crazy.

The mosquitoes are insane. The campgrounds are basically small hollows carved out of dense underbrush which leads to poor circulation and damp mosquito havens. If you like dark, over-grown, and buggy, this would be a good place for you. Ive been to the BWCA and other places in the northwoods and this place was off the charts in comparison. We didnt see any buffalo in the preserve. The falls were cool to see. I do recommend going to see the falls.

First visit here, loved the view. The waterfall (we went right as the snow started to melt so the water is a little dingy) has a bridge across it and the trail continues up and around and back to the start. During winter the trail is slippery from the snow and ice but still just as beautiful (you can kind of see the metal fence going around the top of the cliffs.) great place for a day trip. Cant wait to go back when snow is gone!

Pleasant picnic area with a pavilion near the Falls. Campground is on the opposite side of the highway, nearer the bison.

Minneopa State Park is a fun activity just outside of Mankato - we went here for just the morning to check out the falls and buffalo areas. Its about a 3 block walk from the parking lot to the top of the falls, but another 10 minutes or so down stairs and hiking alongside the river to get to the bottom of the falls. We hiked with our 8lb yorkie (on a leash) and she did just fine on the hike! We did also see buffalo in the bison reserve, which was a nice surprise.

Great park that’s not far off the beaten path. Well cared for campground - waterfall hike has some elevation if you go in the back trails but walking around the buffalo sanctuary was flat and can be done in just a few hours. We enjoyed this and will recommend to our friends with children as well

Definitely worth the trip to Mankato to check out the falls and the buffalo.

Didnt see much at the Bison area. Would skip that. The falls area was awesome.

Nicely paved and easy to get from parking to waterfall. Beyond the waterfall there are stairs which can make it difficult for folks with ambulatory concerns. Because we visited during the CoVid “stay at home” action - restrooms are limited (if any at all) so make sure you plan for that. We also went during Easter weekend, so there were a lot of people out - which is less than ideal. Roads through the bison range were closed due to flooding and ice melts. Overall still amazing and managed to get in some good photography.

Got here and there was a no pets sign at the entrance. I came from 2 hours away with my dog and was very disappointed to see this. Not impressed.

Great if you enjoy a waterfall. Has a rustic path down to the bottom of the fall. Great pictures can be taken here all season long. Great for a day picnic out with the family. Its a little hike down and back up the path.

The falls viewing area is a short walk and ADA accessible, which made it an enjoyable visit with a family member with MS. The buffalo were cooking in a pond close to the road at the buffalo drive.

The bison are really cool and the waterfall is great but limited hiking trails and the mosquitos are fierce!

What am amazing state park!The waterfall is beautiful. Two tier waterfall you can see from the bridge and the path to the bridge and slightly beyond is handicapable accessible. Wheelchairs can easily go on this path.Our dog loved splashing in the river.In another section of the park is a bison preserve. When we visited, the herd was only a couple hundred feet from the road.Great park and well worth the drive

Very nice park. Clean shower rooms. Have been there many times. My favorite state park.

I didnt feel the camping sites where that great was Alittle buggy given the swamp nearby and maybe lack of wind. The bison drive was neat and the old flour mill was also nice to see.
