I came here for a family gathering. I had low expectations. Not sure why, because they were blown out of the water. The gardens are amazing. Well kept. the staff was amazing. The facilities were great. Ample parking and easy to find.

There social distancing is on point. It was my first time here. Loved the view. Theres a lot of stairs and pathways. To the right side theres a big sand hill where you can exercise. would really recommend this place. Oh the playground is closed, but the bathroom is opened. Theres no designated parking lot, but you can park on the street.

This park is great. I brought my kid here. FYI You can slide down the dune on cardboard ONLY. If youve ever tried to do that, youll know its impossible to get a good slide down a hill. However, after trying a few options, I have decided a piece of cardboard thats large with maybe hand holes cut in it might be better than small pieces that are sized for your kids. Something about distributing weight across a larger surface area seems to be a better option. I brought a few pieces of cardboard and a box cutter to shape them. I stopped by a grocery store on route to get the board. Now Im rambling. Anyways, good luck! Also, they have a sign up process to use the space and rotate every hour. Theres an attendant on site. Basically it was getting used by athletic boot camps and it got out of hand, so now they do it this way, taking turns and clearing out every hour or so. Annoying, but whatever. They also have a small playground thats fenced in for tots. Its great!

The San Dune Park is specifically a workout location that is open to the public. You do need a reservation in order to enter and there is a fee of $1. 20 people are allowed in per reservation time. It is a great workout. Next to the Sand Dune is a bigger park with a very nice trail that if you walk out of the park and a quarter of mile further you reach the beach with a great sight. The park is located in a residential spot, with many homes around.

Sand Dune Park is comprised of three distinct areas. The first is what its name after - the Sand Dune. This imposing dune is a great place to work out. Be aware that it does require a reservation (which is great, as it limits the amount of people on the dune and provides you with a better experience) online with a fee of $1.The second area is a gated playground, which provides ample entertainment for kids. It has two large features with slides, two sets of swings, and more. A small, but nice (and typically quiet) playground. The third area has benches, hot box for grilling, bathrooms and a decent sized grassy field. To have a birthday party here, or other events, strongly recommended that you reserve the space through Manhattan Beach.Parking is limited to the North and South of the park, and be aware that this park is in the middle of a densely populated neighborhood. Its a great place to work out, spend time with your kids, or eat and throw a frisbee!

This park is great except for one major thing. First of all, it has playground equipment with that are handicapped accessible. The bathrooms are clean. Parking is plentiful. However the big downfall is the lack of access to the giant sand dune. It begs the question... why they even have it. They pay people to sit and guard it all day to make sure nobody uses it without an advanced reservation. How pathetic! I was even confronted by a couple of residents of the neighborhood that felt more than willing to describe their dissatisfaction with the politics around using the dune. Id like to see the neighborhood or the community get over themselves and open this Dune up to everybody.

A brief and personal history of Sand Dune Park. San Dune park is a park that was created for the immediately surrounding community. It is not very big and does not even really have a parking lot. I grew up here and this was the only place around to run around and play. When I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s this park was just that - a park. Since that time the area has seen a dramatic change in demographics. All of the beach cottages that once lined the tree section are now replaced by mini mansions. Those mini mansion brought people with money - many of whom are professional athletes. Those athletes in turn discovered the hill and began using it as part of their training routine. There are few things more challenging than running up a near vertical sand hill! Once the general public found out about the professional athletes using the hill people from outside the area began showing up on the off chance that they might see someone famous. These people had no respect for the park or the neighborhood. The community complained and the city reacted. Now the hill is strictly monitored - which is a good thing. So for those of you submitting complaints, my guess is you dont live in the area and cannot appreciate the concerns of the neighborhood. If that is the case, it is probably best that you find another park to visit. Polliwog Park is a great alternative for families as it has many more amenities.

Great workout, nice quiet park area for families with stairs and pathways for a mellow cool down. A little bit of a hassle to register but worth it overall to keep the numbers down. Park area/parking is really too small for the big training groups that want to work out together here.
