We went tent camping in the unimproved campground and it was quiet and private. The whole grounds are beautiful and well maintained! The sugar mill history is throughout the park and is very interesting. The beach was not my cup of tea because its actually Lake Pontchartrain and is very dirty. I did enjoy fishing from the pier, eventhough I did not catch anything. It has a beautiful view of the lake at the end of the pier. They have showers, bathrooms, and plenty of benches throughout the park. If you decide to do trails, bring your bug repellent or the mosquitos will be carrying you home. This place definitely needs a few visits!
This was an awesome experience. We went to Oak Alley and actually found an old piece of a plate and some old pieces of bottles from the 19th and early 20th century. The beach is small and clean. The walking trail is peaceful. We met a ranger, Stephanie, who told us the history of the piece if plate and bottles we found.
Really nice place to camp or visit for the day. Nice hiking trails with little facts about Louisiana all along the way. Facilities are VERY clean and inviting. This is fast becoming a staple family trip.Edit: the showers get so gloriously hot and pressure is rather nice for being in a park. Were definitely coming back soon.
The park is beautiful! Many of the lots are next to the woods which is wonderful scenery sitting at the dining table! There are play areas for the kids, a bathhouse, picnic area and a beautiful waterfront. We will be back!
The campground is beautiful and kept extremely clean. The campsites are really close to each other. More like an RV park than a state park. Also, the staff at the gate dont seem to be very well trained. We rented 2 campsites for 3 nights and they only gave us 1 car pass for each campsite. Were supposed to be allowed 6 people per campsite but they kept charging everyone the day use fee every time they entered the gate.
The nature is great so many different animals can be seen here from the woodland to the marsh . The trails can be muddy at times but the canopy of trees makes it nice even on those hot summer days . A weekend camp out is a must . I am not sure if the bathhouse is open during this covid thing but they were nice and never ran out of hot water . There is also a large group camp area but again not sure at this point if its open . Make sure you drive the speed limit or slower so you can see the deer that hang out along the road or get a speeding ticket. Good place for for the kids to run off all that energy and there are historical ruins in the park . Keep an eye out for the red wasp there are a few and if you look in the hollow branches of the old oaks you might can spot wild bees working away . Have stay quite a few time and will again in the future .
This is a beautiful park, with a sandy shore, a bathhouse, camping sites, trails to walk, and a water park. I saw many families with children. I absolutely fell in love with the look of the bathhouse from the outside. The surrounding oak trees (I think they are oak trees) with moss hanging down are absolutely stunning.
ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOVE THIS PLACE!!!this place is perfect for just about anything youve got going on from fishing, picnicking, swimming, boating, camping, walking trails
Awesome park! Stopped by for an afternoon siesta during our bicycle ride from Texas 2 Florida. Beautiful camping areas. Exceptionally clean grounds and restrooms/showers. Didnt make it to the beach recreation area, but sounded like a lot of people having a lot of fun. I was more interested in the camping areas and finding a pair of trees to keep my hammock in the shade for the duration of the afternoon sun/heat. Better showers than some hotels Ive stayed at!
If you love the outdoors this is the place to be. So many things to do and explore with your loved ones. We stayed in cabin 2... it had 2 rooms with a queen in one and the other with 2 sets of bunk beds. 1 bathroom with handicap shower.Only problem I had was the beds were super uncomfortable and noisy...Other than that my family enjoyed themselves and I will definitely be coming back.
Absolutely beautiful full moon night, very quiet camping grounds. I saw three doe in one night, none of them were skittish towards my large dog. 10/10
We took our daughter here for birthday she had a blast! Theres a beach, splash pad, hiking trail, biking trail, nature walk, grill and park areas. There was so much we didnt get to do everything but we will be returning.
We camped in a rv. Spots are nice paved and tree lined fire pit picnic tables. Walking trails biking trails kids splash park and access to Lake Pontchartrain. A wonderful state park.
Nice walking trails here. If you have the time this is a great way to spend the day. We bring binoculars and always make sure you have water and snacks to keep you going.
This is a delightful LA state park that includes a good number of camping sites. Driving into the park is stunning as you pass dozens of magnificent live oaks, covered in Spanish Moss. The beach is large and clean with nearby changing facilities. Kids will enjoy the splash pad.
It was great. My kids really enjoy the sprinklers...
This park is beautiful and allows for a great picture perfect experience. It is very peaceful here!
It was just beautiful! Werent many folks there at 5 pm. I stayed until 7:30 pm. Sunset was gorgeous. Great photo ops!
So Ive been to FounainBleau Twice now- once with my girlfriend and kids, who loved the beaches and splash pad; and the other as a volunteer worker. The Park is very well kept and has beautiful trails. The morning I pulled in at 630 to work there was a few different groups of deer grazing. While working I came across tons of small wildlife which was cool as Im an outdoor catch a critter type person. The cabins in the Park are gorgeous and not all that pricey and the RV sites are spacious and well maintained.Just an all around nice place to get away to.
Great park on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain - approximately a 45 minute drive from NOLA. Nice, well maintained trails. Bathrooms at the visitor center and the beach house. The live oaks in the park are gorgeous!
Such a beautiful place to camp. Lovely scenery, well maintained with clean and comfortable restrooms and showers. The grand old oaks with spanish moss, the historic sugar mill, plenty of hiking trails and miles of places to bike. The Tammany Trace also passes thru. And its on Lake Pontchartrain! Very hard to get an RV spot though because it is so popular. You have to book far out to get availability. So not too great for passing thru or impromptu camping trips. But worth the wait if you can reserve a spot. Its close to town but has that feeling of deep seclusion. I highly recommend this state park. And Ill be back again. Thanks Fontainebleau!
Amazing state park for a day trip, tent camping or taking out the RV. Restrooms are extremely well maintained.
Nice day, warm water. Posted for bacteria, but we enjoyed the day at the playground and beach
Beautiful park - a good place for wedding photo sections. Once you are here, please don’t miss a chance enjoying the sunset in the lake
This park is gorgeous!! There are some walking trails, and a really nice beach to relax on. If I visit New Orleans again, Id definitely spend more time here, maybe go camping!
One of my favorite places to go. If I’m ever in New Orleans this is a must. About an hour away from the city, but it’s a beautiful drive. You drive on one of the longest bridges in the world over the lake and it’s amazing. At the actual park, there is beautiful foliage and little books and covers to hang out and lay out in the sand. Easy to find a secluded spot for a picnic and enjoy the breeze to cool off from the heat.
Great park love everything beside not being able to ride golf carts after night time..
Nice park for sports, but we actually used the nature trails that were great too.dog needs to be on a leash though, that was the only thing I wish was different. The sections along the pipeline corridor are also less interesting.
Lovely state park. Staff very helpful in getting us a last minute site due to a computer mix up. Very rainy during our stay so water stood around our pad but what do you expect in a low lying area. Beautiful view from day use area.
One of our favorite places! Beautiful and well kept.
Beautiful grounds. We love coming here. I wish they had more delivery options.
Its a great place to explore or just chill out. Youve got trees, trails with a lot of side quests, and a cute little beach. Oh... And an actual BATHROOM! Well worth the $3.
Not really a beach setting. The grass area was pretty marshy. Great picnic table area.
Tons of dragonflies. Such a beautiful place. Cant wait to go back. Security is amazing and felt super safe at all hours. Such beautiful property.
One of the best locations in the Northshore. Only surprised at how many people do not take advantage of it more often.
Quiet campground with good pull throughs. Laundry room was exceptionally clean. Easy check-in, online reservations worked well. Live oaks were really spectacular, and lakeside facilities were very nice.
Very clean all the facilitys, a good place to relaxation and be en contact with the national park.
My brother got married to his one true love and happy as Ive ever seen him
Their trick or treat experience was wonderful. Thank you to all of the campers!
This is a beautiful park with moss laden old oaks and lake. It has camping, cabins on the Lake Pontchartrain, a playground, a beach and hiking trails. It is a nice place for RV camping, but not all sites have full (sewer) hookups. Beware that some campsites can hold water when there is heavy rains. Enjoyed riding my bike from my campsite each night to catch the sunset. The Tammany Trace bike path runs through the park so there is lots of excellent bike riding.
The cabins are so comfortable and the water is so warm and shallow. Very nice place to just relax. Sometimes you can see an alligator friend or two aswell. Gorgeous view. Would definitely do it again.
Went here for the first time for a family portrait shoot. Lovely area. There is a $3 charge to enter the park though.
Great park for RV camping. Electric & water hookups with dump station. Sites are long with tables, fire pits an bbqs; firewood for sale. Bath house are clean with good water pressure. Walking trails are well marked. Beach and pier are nicely kept. Lots to do for the whole family and close to NOLA. A definite
Great park on lake ponchatrain..fish..hike..bike..updated showers..clean pads...cabins and soon tentrr tent sites..check tentrr.com
ITS ALWAYS A NICE PLACE TO BE.
Havent visited the park in many years (live on the Southshore). The splash pad was very nice for the little ones. Everything looks well maintained. Only reason for 4 stars is that we didnt have a chance to visit the beach or the hiking trails. Will definitely return to visit.
Love this state park very nice and clean friendly quiet nice Beach fishing Pier lots of deer at night good all-around beautiful place to we do a lot of tent camping here love driving around at night looking at the deer
A lot to see. Beautiful scenery and kids enjoyed the park.
It was really nice. We enjoyed staying in the RV, going to splash park, and exploring the beach. My mom even cooked breakfast on the bbq grill which was excellent. It is a beautiful park with a lot of shade and fresh breezes and beautiful moss hanging off the trees. Our neighbors were very friendly.
A 45 minute ride from Nola is worth it. Lots of trails, a nice beach, public bbqs.. It’s a really nice experience. $3.00 to get in is well worth it
My husband and I love camping here this and camping here since he was five years old as a tiger cub and continued till eagle scout. Now when we want an escape we will get a site for the family (us and our 4 legged child) and retreat from the rest of the world for a while.
Gorgeous! We stayed in the over- the- lake cabins. They are houses, not cabins. AC, bed linens provided, kitchen equipped. Leather couches and chairs and flat screen TV. Free WiFi. Private dock for every 2 cabins.
The sites in the North Campground have good space between them. The trails were wet but fun for Mountain Biking. The small beach area is quite nice and the history of the old Sugar Mill is interesting.
One of our favorite campgrounds. Tons to do and decently spaced sites.
I visited this place on my way through town and wow what a beautiful park!! So many trails and gorgeous places to explore. Ample parking, several camping locations. The place felt safe and the fellow visitors treated the place with respect. Wish I could have spent more time here. I highly recommend this gem!!
Beautiful Park best one Ive seen yet people are outstanding there lots of wildlife to see.
It was a beautiful day today at the park
Love it, we will come back here.
Super cool and Scenic hiking trails, nice place to go picnic or bring your dog
So beautiful. The lake was calm and sailboats were out. We were even blessed to witness a baptism. Such a wonderful day to be out walking around. We toured the visitor center and talked with the guides and walked out to the marsh. Great family day!
Beautiful wonderful place. We will continue to come back here love it love it love it.
Beautiful, full of history and a wonderful beach with fishing boardwalk. Would visit again
Loved the cabins on the water.
Loved the cabins... Very refreshing
Beautiful landscape and trails, you can see different wildlife if youre paying attention, plenty of parking as well
Pelican Park inside of the state park, host lots of youth sports, baseball, soccer, jogging trails dog park. Very nice
This is a great state park. The day entry fee is very low at $3 per person over 3 years old. This is an especially good place for having a picnic with the kids. The small beach is quite scenic around sunset with Cypress and Oak trees on its west end, it makes for a great Louisiana swamp backdrop. The mix of different folks is good and all that we ran into were quite friendly. For whatever reason it seemed like a lot of people were setting of thier cars panic button / alarm; honk... honk... honk...Lots of space to come and bring your grill or just hang out. We will probably try the camping here soon.
Great place to kayak. Just dont forget to pay at the drop-box. $3 per person
Place nearby affiliated to dock canoe or kayak for $3. Absolutely peaceful n beautiful landscape
I refuse to pay $75 for a campsite in New Orleans that is so small you cannot open your awning and is in an industrial district. This State Park is inexpensive and rural but only a few miles from the causeway into town. We parked in New Orleans City Park and took the street car into the French Quarter. Campground has level paved sites and large clean bathrooms. Swimming beach and nature trails. We will be back in October, probably twice a year for now on.
My wife and I really enjoyed seeing nature up close.
I have lived in NOLA my entire life yet I had never been to this little gem of a place! Also, an expected surprise was that the entrance fee was waived because of the pandemic (not that $3/person would necessarily break the bank). The nature trail was nice and shaded (except for the alligator boardwalk trail), which was definitely a plus during this hot southern summer. They even had beaches! There was a bunch of other stuff at the park as well but, unfortunately, it was closed due to the pandemic. 10/10 would recommend checking this place out.
Gorgeous park and grounds! We came for a day picnic and decided to reserve dates for the campground because we loved it so much.
This state park is not very beautiful like City Park, New Orleans. I would rather recommend to visit the city park instead to the people who are planning to visit a park. Because City Park is just 40 minutes drive from Fontainebleau State Park. But the people who are looking for a beach like feeling can instead visit Fontainebleau State Park. Fontainebleau State Park requires $3 entry fee per person and is open until 9 pm.
Very clean State Park. Staff helpful. Public facilities are exceptional clean and they are kept that way by volunteers. We always feels safe. This is our place to stay close to home.
Different things for the kids to do. Splash pad. Fishing pond. Pier. Swings. Not crowded.
Its always such a beautiful spot to go hang out with the family.
It was soooo beautiful. My family had fun.
Its a nice little place to go for about 2 hrs in nice weather then it gets old.
So peaceful and clean. Nice campsites, sandy beach and a small water park for the kids. There was even a pond with baby alligators, but you cant feed them. The cabins built over Lake Pontchartrain are so inviting. Planning to come back and sit in a big white rocking chair on the porch and look out over the lake.
Nice park with level sites. Water, electric & even wifi at the sites. Well maintained as campers leave. Beautiful beach right on the lake!
Very good facilities in the park, it has a perfect trail to walk with the family, a very good playground and the beach area.
They locked the gate on us for a little bit one night and wasnt able to get out. Great park though, lots of history to see!
This park has a rich history, and a plethora of beautiful. A lot of the history here is dedicated to Americas dark history of slavery, and the countless people who suffered this horror. One can easily be taken away by the rich flora. Its something one really has to see for themselves. Do yourself a solid and spend an afternoon at Fontainebleau.
Fontainebleau State Park is one of my favorite outdoor spots to go within an hour of New Orleans. Its got tent, RV, & cabin camping; hiking trails; a beach; a splash Park; bike path access, and a lot of history. Such a good park!
Nice park, was crowded but was labor day weekend. Overall, well come back and book a cabin and stay for couple of days to give real review.
The sites we beautiful! We had site 101 and it was spacious. Best site by looks is 131. Staff was very nice and welcoming! A bit of a walk to the lake, you may drive to it if you choose, but well worth it! Restrooms were clean and stocked all the time! Highly recommend this state park!
Clean, beautiful grounds, a lot of places to picnic. Nice waterpark for the munchkins!
Wonderful campground. The older section we stayed in had a newer bathroom with showers along with the older smaller bathroom. Sites spaced apart fairly well. Will return.
The only problem was that the site was hard to get into. The street is very narrow. Overall we had a great time.
Visited this place when in New Orleans last week. This is great place to visit. Great for families. Entry fee is 4$ per adult.
We’ve had a great stay at this state park-maybe the nicest state park we’ve ever been to. The views are simply exceptional and it’s nice to ride your bikes throughout the park to the slides, the splash pad, the beach, etc. At night, hundreds of tree frogs come out of hiding and engulf the campground along with dear, raccoons and possum. On the downside, the “banana spiders“ also live in the park - we had 7 living in the trees, within 20 feet of our camper door.
Beautiful place and lots of good finds!
Wow, this place was breathtaking. I will definitely be going there again! The area is so clean and theres so much wildlife!
Very well kept park, lots of stuff working to keep everything clean and maintained. Theres plenty of trails and sights to see. The beachy area is a nice change of scenery for the area. We also saw a few gators and a deer but no snakes.
So glad the water play area and beach are open. Finally somewhere I can bring the kids to go expell their energy. Camped here when I was little. I loved the park then and I still do now
