Theyre all super knowledgeable and super kind. Its the type of store that you want to go to all the time even if its just to hangout, great atmosphere!
I visit this place almost once a week. Reasonable prices and clear (some aquariums are not priced and can only be asked to know. Very uncomfortable) The staff are always friendly, fishes and corals are healthy. Never disappointed it.
Nice shop with a good selection. Staff has always been friendly and helpful when weve visited.
Great selection and reasonable prices. I love that they quarantine fish. Its also great that theyll order what youre looking for. Id highly recommend.
This is my new favorite aquarium store. The guys are super nice, knowledgeable, and pricing is the best Ive seen. $1/gallon saltwater, the same $50 power head at petco was $35. They have a large selection of rock, coral, saltwater fish, and even some cichlids. You should check it out if you need a good place. Added some good pics.11/24/17 update- they’ve updated the store a bit and added some more frag tanks. I think they have the most affordable largest selection of coral frags in the NVA area - carry both saltwater and a little bit of freshwater fish. Still like this place the best out of the three saltwater stores in NVA
Cute fish!!! Good prices too
Very good Experience Staff was very helpful, Zach is very awesome. So I had a issue with my tank because I had a different service. I called the capital aquarium, Zach come over at the same day take a look my tank, and gave good suggestion as well. They change half of the water from my tank, and it all goods now.We went to their stores, customer service is awesome. They have a good variety of coral and fishes. I like their service, this people are awesome and store is very good and awesome too.
I dont know why this place got good reviews. I went there a month ago. I dont like the store, its dark and creepy. However, there are many salt water fishes there which was exactly what I was looking for. We bought two small fishes adding to our big fish tank. They died within a week. Not only that, I think the fishes we bought there spread some disease to other fishes who lived in our tank for a long time. In a month, 3 more fishes died and now my angle fish lose his appetite too. We checked water quality, everything is fine. I believe its some virus or bacteria from this store but its hard to diagnose. I am disappointed and will never buy fishes there.
Small but Big on value and knowledge. They Specialize in Fresh water and saltwater needs and wants. The Staff was by far the most valuable thing we came upon. We love the love and knowledge that they have to help you from start to finish. They gave us a tour of the shop as well as addressing that if they dont have it, they will order it for you if it is available. Thank you Capital Aquarium!
I selected to purchase a coral that was clearly marked as being $10.00 but the associates refused to sell it to me for that price. They told me it was actually $25.00 and said that they didnt have the time to correctly change the prices beforehand. Instead of walking around the store aimlessly, maybe they should try to get some work done so these type of discrepancies dont happen again.
Went into the store yesterday and bought some snails and a sea urchin. Offered to bring in some frogspawn frags for store credit, and was given the okay.Today, I drove 30 minutes to bring in 16 heads of frogspawn and was offered a measly $55. The asian guy/manager on duty said that the frags had brown jelly coming out of them, and then undercut me. Last I checked, frogspawn looks like jelly, so I am unsure what the issue was here. Attached are the pictures from the colonies I fragged from. When this same guy worked at Artfully Acrylic I was offered a much better price for the coral. Wont be going back to Capital Aquarium.
This place is a gem. While all the staff is especially helpful and attentive, Megan Hill has been invaluable. When my budget was cut back for starting up three 55 gallon saltwater tanks for my high school Marine Science class, she probably single-handedly saved the project with her knowledge and encouragement. She was able to help me revamp my planned organisms to be more affordable and yet still very engaging for my students. Shes also been sure to keep an eye out for new additions that may work well in my tanks as new stock comes in. For example, when she got in an urchin she quickly suggested it for my invert-focused tank. That urchin has probably been the most popular critter! The students are amazed at how it moves and everything and it opens a great door for teaching. Considering Im new to working with saltwater aquariums, she was especially patient with me and eager to assist. Now I have three tanks with happy, healthy organisms for my students to learn about. Its been a wonderful experience.Unrelated to my personal projects, but Ive also noticed that they care a lot about the organisms themselves. In the shop they have fish that theyve inherited from tank take downs that were injured or in poor shape. These arent the kind of fish they can necessarily resell or anything; they just keep them at a shop, helping them recover and giving them a place to have a better life. I dont know a lot oft he specifics behind the practice, but its a comforting thing to know.If I ever won the lottery I would call them up in a heartbeat and have them install and manage an elaborate setup for me. For now I just focus on keeping most of my business with them for my school tanks and soaking up their knowledge when I can.
Zack and his crew came in and broke down my 350 gallon reef today very professional crew and they went above and beyond what we had agreed that they were supposed to do.Thanks zack, Rob and Steve!
Pleasantly surprised. The staff was very helpful in getting me started on the right path. Although their selection is limited, they seem to have carefully chosen what they carry, which helps a lot. They also were happy to special order me the stuff I needed that they didnt have on hand and I got it all in less than a week. This isnt your spotless, shining, pristine aquarium shop, it is a working shop. If you are picky about perfect cleanliness, this may rub you the wrong way, but if you want helpful people, the right products, and healthy livestock, you will be very happy.
Cheapest RO/DI water in the area. Knowledgeable staff.
Staff is always helpful and they have a good rotating stock of corals.
Excellent LFS! Friendly and knowledgeable staff, very clean store, and great deals. Couldnt pass up a few of their $5 frags a couple weeks ago and they are doing really well.
Capital Aquarium is great. All of the employees are super knowledagable and willing to take their time helping you, they have a great selection of corals and their livestock always looks very healthy. Prices are also mostly fair, especially when compared to similar stores in the area. The only big downfall of this establishment is their hours, and of course that is simply a result of them being a more home-service oriented company.
Quaint and simple shop. The two people working (a man with long hair and a woman with longer hair) were amazing. Super helpful and even showed my kids around to involve them with pur visit. The livestock selection wasnt as great as I wanted, but for my wallets sake it was probably a good think. Corals were great, a little pricey, but a great selection.Overall great store and would recommend them to anyone. Will be back soon!
Possibly the BEST fish spot in Northern Va. Very clean, very knowledgeable, and they are willing to order what you want! This is a store that has passion, has dedication, and drive. This isnt youd run of the mill pet store like the big guys. Great saltwater and freshwater selection.
The guys there are pretty awesome and knowledgeable. The prices are reasonable and Ive never seen or bought a sick fish or coral.
Great Experience Staff was very helpful.Megan is a DIEHARD Aquatics Lover, Shelby was super helpful. These girls Make your buisness. Thanks again for the good customer service, allowing my friend and I to hangout for over an hour while we decided. Awsome lil store!
Great customer service, knowledgeable staff. Large selection of corals with reasonable prices
Not a huge selection, but had a good variety. Very satisfied with the help I received. Unfortunately they had no fresh water shrimp.
Don they sell crayfish
This place is amazing if your into saltwater. Its great for freashwater aswell. They gave me a great deal on tigerbarbs, but prices are reasonable. The staff here are very proud, and passionate of what they do.
Awesome customer service, very friendly people especially Chris, he is so helpful, knowledgeable and always ready to help. They charge $4 for 5 gallon saltwater (which is the cheapest in area) and bought a couple live rocks. Will visit them soon.
Went in to check it out. I know very little and have no experience with fish. The Guy there, and I feel bad that I cant remember his name, was super helpful and very friendly. I will definitely be going back to get my tank and fish from them.
Great feel. Well kept shop. Staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help.
Expert help. Friendly and honest shop. 5 stars.
Very helpful staff and willing to take the time for each customer. Great prices and selections on coral.
My favorite fish store ever. If you have fish you must check this place out.
Bought some chaeto from them about a month ago and noticed tons of aiptasia growing in the chaeto. My aquarium is brand new and was started with all dry rock so the aiptasia definitely came from capital aquarium. Be careful buying anything from here.
Best place ever you can find anything
A damn fine establishment lemme tell you hwat. Rather limited on the fish available but have a reasonable number of frags at an average-good price range. And like any good LFS they always have plenty of RO/DI on hand. But they have awful hours, hard to get there during the week. But 5 stars for staff being very knowledgeable.
Very knowledgeable staff, will be shopping here again
Great service, very knowledgeable, made my dream of getting a 300 gallon aquarium come true!
Great place, vary reasonable prices, knowledgeable staff. Thanks for your help.
