Fantastic mansion. Meticulous restoration and beautiful to look at. The tours are so worth going. This place would be a gorgeous house to live in today, I cannot imagine what it was like in 1847. The history of the house and how prestigious the lanier family was at that time was worth learning about. And to see 12 ft doors in the house and then to learn that 3 of them in the house are dummy doors that open just to reveal a wall just to maintain symmetry in the house. I loved looking at this place and the grounds.

Nicely preserved mansion of the early 1800s. Shown by tours. Original furniture, showcases culture of that era. Be aware it is 3 stories tall, so lots of stairs to climb. Central to the house is a beautiful circular staircase. Home built by a philanthropist who invested in Madison and in Indiana. Well worth visiting. Tickets purchased thru Information Center next door.

Lanier Mansion is not an ordinary mansion. It is full of history and art. Adorned with beautiful furnitures, we learned a lot not only about the great flood of Ohio River but also about how people in that era lived. It was our first time to see the old bathroom and toilet 100% not revised as it looked like in that time.

The house itself was wonderful. Its been wonderfully cared for over time. The tour left a lot to be desired for the $11 they charge. We were done exactly 30 minutes after walking out of the visitors center and the guide didnt seem too keen on answering questions as we walked around. It was a rainy Wednesday morning, not exactly a high demand time.

A tour guide walked us through rooms in the mansion. He told stories of Mr. Lanier, a well-to-do banker and financier. The six bedroom home was furnished as it would have looked like in that time period. We purchased ten dollar tickets @ the Madison Visitors Center.

October 12 2019 On a girls weekend we picked madison for are adventure. We booked the 7 pm ghost tour . The young girl had very little knowledge about the tour . We were told by other people who was taking the tour how little she did . She talked very little about the house and acted like she was annoyed at our question. We was also told that she skipped some of the tour . Very disappointing we expected to have a fun night from the story we was told by people who had taken the tour before. We was told how the one tour guide dressed in period clothing and the man who did the tour was amazing. We got a young lady who didn’t have a clue or even cared . Not only was we disappointed but it was everyone who took the tour was disappointed.

We visited Lanier Mansion on May 26, 2019. The grounds are beautiful! Our guide pointed out a large leaf magnolia tree. The leaves and blossoms were enormous! This variety doesn’t have waxy leaves as is more common in the south. Blossoms were larger than dinner plates. The home is magnificently preserved with attention to the original architectural details. The period furnishings were beautiful. Special mention goes to our guide, Michael. He was very knowledgeable and hospitable. We weren’t rushed and the tour lasted about 45 minutes.

Such a beautiful history building. They have a wheelchair entrance to get in now if you have problems w all the steps leading up to the house. Its so old and full of really beautiful artifacts. The guides are so knowledgeable and so cool. Ive seen now they do a 21+ cocktail event there which sounds amazing but I havent been. Great place for photos, local kids go there on prom for the backdrop w the garden and the mansion.

This is a beautiful place with a fascinating history. Our tour guide is obviously very bored with his job because he rushed through the tour and had curt answers to our questions. Other than feeling rushed through the home, it was a nice visit.I took my kids to this home about a year after I had first gone. We had a different tour guide who was very happy to show us the tour and took his time, even though he got a late start and we were still in there past closing. I love this home and the history of this town and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys history. This town had a major part in leading escaped slaves to their freedom. I recommend visiting!

Probably one of the most well-preserved and well restored Antebellum mansions on the union side of the Ohio River. Interior appointments are accurate and beautiful. Paint on the outside was a shock to long time Madison residents, but was faithful to the original color of the mansion.

This place is fantastic. We made our first visit over the weekend and fell in love. The cost is $5 per adult to get in, and its worth the price. You are lead through the home by a tour guide that is knowledgeable about the history of the home and the family that built it. When you walk in the front door its like taking a step back in time. The home is restored like it may have looked in the mid 1800s. We werent able to see the east wing because they are restoring it, but even not seeing the servants quarters and kitchen it was still amazing. The tour guide walks you through room by room on all 3 floors of the home. There is a basement to the home, and it is opened to the public during certain events mainly during Halloween. When youre in the Madison area this is definitely worth the stop and hour of your time
