Honestly I really used to love Triton. I went there back when they were at their old location and loved the change when they opened up in a new store. But it has definitely declined. A lot. Half the tanks are empty and dirty. The quality vs the price is just not there. I would rather drive to Blue Fish which is further but I know if I have questions someone can help me out or get me the right associate. At Triton, I just don’t think they have the no-how anymore since a few employees changed over. Regarding the attached images, I have a small nano cube tank, only 32 gallons. I had never seen one of these cute little cat fish before and asked the guy at Triton if it would be okay in my tank and if it’s reef compatible with the few fish and softies I have. Turns out after I got home and found it being aggressive, Triton has ill informed me. It was a coral cat and they shouldn’t be alone and can grow up to 2 feet long. That’s just one example. It was a learning experience for me that I need to do my own research and not blindly trust my LFS.But honestly, if you are looking for healthy fish and reasonably priced corals, this probably isn’t the best place anymore. I went there last week to get water (and this two day experience is what really broke the deal for me on going back again) - I drove all the way there, 20 min each way, and the door says open till 7. But apparently their hours are only 12-4. So the door is wrong. Drove back the next day to get some water and the kid working there wasn’t wearing a mask and definitely wasn’t following the social distancing guidelines. Sorry but I believe in wearing masks as a public health issue and employees are required. There was nothing to indicate they are following the county mandate to wear masks. He had a bored attitude (that’s not a deal breaker, just a comment). They had several tanks with fish clearly diseased that were up for sale and most of the other tanks are now empty. I thought to myself, this just isn’t even a fun experience coming here anymore. It’s sad.So with that, I am going to be taking my service to Blue Fish from now on and not go back to Triton.
Triton Marine was amazing. Someone recommended this store to me. I was truly blown away when I walked in. I am very new to a saltwater tank. I purchase a 150 gallon tank from another store but to be honest its just not like this store. I am not bad mouthing the other store but Marine absolutely stands out to me. The different variety of fish and coral is amazing. Joel helped me with all my questions. This store is the cleanest and well kept store I have been in. As of now Joel has all my business.
I’ve been here more times over the years than I am comfortable admitting. Great people, best livestock and good prices. Good to see a local store do so well.
My daughter and I expected our experience to go a completely different way. We spent 15 minutes looking around and during that time the person there said 6 words to us, he was too busy uploading and taking pictures of other coral. Worst customer service and this is was the first and last time here. To think Ive spent thousands on my tank and expected to spend hundreds today. Off to Blue Fish!!! They like my money.Response to the owner: Customer service and customer experience is and should be of the utmost importance to you as a shop owner. Tidal gardens was amazing and after leaving my review for blue fish the customer service has been amazing also. Maybe this review will help you get better as well.
To start with hands down best saltwater fish store within 100 miles. The place is a little small but trust me you dont even notice the second you walk in the door and see all the great coral and quality equipment. The owners and staff are awesome!!! Even when busy trying to keep everything clean and clear ( the tanks are super clean) they will always stop to answer a question or just help you out. I highly recommend this place to any coral lover new or experienced. These are a few goniopora I picked up last week getting use to my tank.
Very nice store. Tanks seem very well kept and large selection of corals. Only thing keeping me from 5 star is I felt very profiled by employee. He did answer my questions but made me feel like my pockets werent deep enough for the store. I also felt the prices seemed about 25% higher than other comparable livestock found at other saltwater exclusive stores.
Joel is excellent. set up a tank for me and its been great. I contracted with him to move my livestock from NY and it was done very well. Highly recommended
Great place. Tanks are maintained well and the they dont lie just for a sale. If something wouldnt work out they tell you and give you other options.
Friendly service, impressive tanks and very clean!
The owner of this store is really honest. I was having light problems and he recommended kessils which I’ve always liked. I brought money for 3 thinking that 2 wouldn’t be enough for my tank, and the owner actually talked me out of spending that extra money. He gave me really good advice on how to get my tank to look like his. Ive always liked this store but it just went up a couple notches today.
Not too bad. Prices are a bit high and they need a larger selection of all items. They had what I wanted, but I think they could be amazing!!
Tanks very well kept, as mentioned by others each tank has separate filtration, very nice store and selection, far cry from some other more local stores to me
I always check out local fish stores when Im traveling and this store has to be in my Top 5! Clean tanks; healthy fish; good selection and reasonable prices. Joel was very helpful and even engaged in conversation with my 4-year old son. Would definitely recommend this store and plan to be back the next time Im in Ohio!
Everyone seems really nice. Communication on online orders isn’t the best and the orders may never be sent. I would definitely visit if I lived nearby; however, in the future, I would probably stick to larger companies with more robust infrastructure for online orders.Just my personal experience, I placed and order for several invertebrates a little over a month ago. I waited a week expecting to hear about shipment, but I was never contacted. Understandably, the website inventory was inaccurate and one of the shrimp was unavailable. I waited a couple more weeks and was told a few times that the shrimp may be coming in the stores next order. It would have been nice if I was kept informed during this process. I only found out any information about my order by reaching out to the store. I spoke with the owner and requested that he substitute the missing shrimp for a less expensive shrimp from the same genus. He indicated that he was okay with this substitution and that he would ship my order next week. Two weeks later, nothing had been done. I reached out by email and offered that he could keep my money but I needed confirmation that my order wouldn’t ship so that I could order elsewhere. I never got a response. I called today to make the same offer and I was cut off by the owner and told that he already got my email. I guess he didn’t want to respond in writing since this whole thing is probably a bit dodgy from a legal perspective.I don’t think that Triton Marine is intentionally scamming people, but order at your own risk.
Beautiful store clean with a great selection and an efficient attentive staff. If you are a marine fish lover this is a great find. This is a specialty store so no freshwater fish and that is great as you dont have to wander around looking for a tiny saltwater section. Prices are appropriate. I would give 5 stars but they have very few 5 and 10 dollar frags. A tank or two of cheaper fast easy growing frags would be great for those new to the hobby.
Ive been to alot of fish stores and this one is by far the nicest. The younger man working was also well educated and shared useful information and great tips!
Joel was super knowledgeable and offered great advice. Beautiful store, lots of coral.
Beautiful fish and coral. Even though they were closing soon they took the time to introduce me to beginner corals and their needs. They didnt rush me through anything plus they have a 14 day guarantee on the clowns I bought. Will definitely be a repeat customer.
Awesome selection! Friendly service and good prices.
I was upset over an issue with buying a sick fish, but was promptly cared for. I will be back.
I was really excited to check out this store the way people raved about it saying how awesome it is. It does look like it was once a great place but the state of the tanks in the entire mid-section when we arrived was disappointing. On the positive side, the livestock for the most part looks healthy, but there were dead fish left in tanks along with high amounts of aiptasia in all of the sale tanks and filtration systems. The seahorse tank looks amazing and the seahorses seem to be doing very well which is a testimony to good care. Pricing on fish was somewhat fair, but the prices of coral and frags here are very high and a lot of them also come with aiptasia. It can certainly be a challenge these days to run an aquarium store and keep up with everything, and thus I am happy to change my rating if things improve.
I never feel good about leaving negative reviews especially for small businesses, but in this case, I feel it is more than justified. Anyone who enjoys marine fish keeping and supports LFS (local fish store) over big-box retailers will understand why this review is so troubling. Small businesses are increasingly frustrated that they lose market share to large corporations while simultaneously refusing to offer even basic courtesies to their customers who will immediately go to the retailer that ingrains customer service into their employees. Triton Marine Aquaculture (Triton) is essentially no exception. Joel and his wife own the company, and both have a near encyclopedic knowledge of their trade. Unfortunately, to extract any information of them comes with eye rolls and passive-aggressive childish behavior even in front of my 10-year-old daughter. Both of them have a fairly menacing appearance being sleeved in tattoos and currently Joel has blue hair which is ridiculous on a grown man. Notwithstanding that, I am not there to be his fashion consultant or his friend. I am a customer and expect to be treated with a certain degree of courtesy and respect. I tolerate their sophomoric behavior because I know that they are a couple of West Coast hipsters basically think they are better than us bumpkin. Moreover, believe me, they treat you that way. My complaint is not about their store which is nice, clean, and well lit. Or even its inventory, which is extraordinary considering the alternative. It is the people that run it who are the problem. I have been supporting the store since they opened taking my young daughter in to show her the fish and we always leave buying something which adds up to several hundred dollars worth of fish all of which have died. I do not need a lecture about tank maintenance, I have been keeping tanks for over 20 years. I use only professional equipment perform regular water changes as well as check the chemistry in the water which is flawless every time. As a matter of fact, there are two big-box retailers that contact me directly to rescue fish when they are dropped off at the store. Suffice to say, I know more than the average person about keeping fish. This past week I purchased a trigger and some miscellaneous other items from Joel and the fish lived for less than 12 hours. This is the second trigger to die that they have sold me yet all of the fish in my tank are healthy and thriving. Call the store the next day when they open at noon and offered to bring the fish back with some water and said that if there was something wrong with my water I would accept the loss however I would like them to replace the fish otherwise. The woman was flabbergasted, literally talk to me like I was an idiot for even suggesting that they would take back the dead fish. Yes, I expect you to take back the fish that died less than 12 hours after you sold it to me. Especially, if I can prove that it was not my water quality that killed the fish. She told me that they’re basically the only game in town and that this policy is not uncommon. I don’t buy anything without a warranty of some kind, but I expect even if this is their policy that be clearly marked in the store and not just some phantom rule that I should know about. She told me it’s on the receipt, you know the receipt that they give you after the purchase. The egregious part is that she told me “oh yeah, you bought that from the quarantine section of the store”. What the heck is that? Quarantine? There certainly no signs that say I’m buying potentially sick fish… Maybe these guys will survive in business maybe they won’t but I can guarantee you it will never be with another dollar of my money. What really bothered me was left Joel’s wife with my number and asked for her to explain the circumstances. To give me a call if they would be willing to work with me considering the fish died just hours after I got it. It’s been 48 hours and no call. They clearly don’t care about losing my business and they won’t care about losing yours given the same circumstances.
Its my favorite spot for fish. I bought corals and got a few pests but thats because I didnt dip the corals. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are very fair. Trustworthy advice.
The people at Triton are very helpful. Great place for Saltwater needs. I have a store right down the street for me, but I would rather drive the distance to Triton.
By far the best place for my saltwater needs. The cleanest place I have been to. There corals are amazing and the fish are awesome. The best stuff in my tank came from this store!
The store owners know everything they talk about, are engaging, and have great inventory. Joel, the owner, has helped me countless times and is a big reason I am going to college for marine science.
Love the options of saltwater fish they offer.
Very clean shop with super clean tanks. Healthy livestock. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great prices. A true one stop shop. This is truly the best saltwater store in NE Ohio.
Went into this store today with my son to see about some new fish. We walked in, 2 employees present, one cleaning tanks, another at the register. Not one of them spoke nor even acknowledged our presence in the store. Even though I at that point was completely disappointed already in their customer service my son wanted to continue to look. Spent at least 10 minutes in this store looking at fish etc...and still not one of the men working there even made eye contact, let alone spoke. Definitely wont be back. To me that was just all out rude. Even Walmart employees greet you when you come in, I expected more from a small shop that had zero customers in it. Its not like it was packed with people and you didnt know when people came in and out.
So the place is clean great looking fish. Each fish tank has its own separate filtration system.Coral system have a variety of choices
Stop in soon. They always have a great selection of fish and corals.Ive been patronizing Triton Marine for several years now. I like to support local small businesses and the owners of Triton Marine have earned my repeat business. Joel and Jen are very knowledgeable about fish, corals & gear. They are very helpful when I need advice. If they dont have a fish or coral you are looking for they will order it for you. Ive been in the hobby for 40 years and I highly recommend them.
Wow, great reef shop! Good pricing and healthy specimens! Was in the area for work, and was lucky enough to have some time to stop by and chat with the owners, and check out their store. They offer all the standard high end stuff along with the more realistic everyday consumer goods. If you live in the area you really need to check this place out, you wont be disappointed!
Staff didnt say a word to us. And did not have a big selection on coral most of everything they have they will not let you see in theback. Definitely worst marine fish store i have ever been too
Triton Marine by far best LFS around. Owner Joel is a great guy, will get you anything you want and fast. My goto so glad theyre close. 95% of my system is triton marine.
My husband and I have been patrons of Triton since they opened and we have had nothing less than an incredible experience every time. Joel and Jens knowledge of the saltwater hobby is second to none and their willingness to go above and beyond to assist their customers is what keeps us coming back. Their honesty and ideas have helped us create a beautiful 180 gallon reef tank in our home and we do not hesitate to recommend them to family and friends. They are up front and will give you the best advice even if its not what you want to hear. They take care to quarantine all new livestock, will not sell you anything they wouldnt put in their own personal tank and we have never had any issues with livestock purchased from them. Experienced hobbiests and novices alike should strongly consider supporting their business.
Nice local shop! Lower prices than then Amazon and BRS. Great staff, helpful and never overbearing.
Great saltwater aquarium store. They have the best corals selection in the area. Very helpful and friendly staff. Would recommend this store to any saltwater aquarium hobbies.
I have to be honest about this, they are the nicest people I have ever met in the saltwater fish community. I recommend coming to this place it is amazing.
The saltwater hobby can be a challenge. Thankfully the owners Triton Marine are very knowledgeable. They give great advice but it is up to you to put that advice to work. If you continue to fail in the hobby, be a grown up and admit that its on you. Dont lose hope (or insult people), you can always hire the experts of Triton Marine to care for your tank. I have had many dealings with Triton over the years and have always received great service and healthy live stock. The store is great and my 4 year old son and 6 year old daughter love stopping at the store and hanging out with the owners, Jen and Joel.
Great place for saltwater fish, invertebrates, lights, tanks, and supplies.
Came here for the first time. The employees were rude. The only reason I’m giving it a 2 star is because they have a good selection.
This is the best LFS in town. Jennifer and Joel are great business owners and have a wonderful store. They have always given me solid advice and its worked every time. I highly recommend this store to the novice and the expert reefer. Great store, great people!
This is by far one of the best saltwater fish stores in northeast Ohio. Great selection of fish and corals. Plenty of frags to choose from. Their tanks are extremely clean.
Recently Joel came to my rescue after another local marine aquarium shop did what I can only describe as a take my money and run scam on me. They left me with a fully paid yet incomplete set up with many complications and defects. Joel came to my home, evaluated all aspects of the set up and helped me to replace the defects and complete the set up properly. His price was reasonable and his work accurate and well thought out.He is a highly professional encyclopedia of marine aquariums but more importantly understands that more expensive is not necessarily the best bang for your buck. I intend to be a long time customer of Triton and will never set foot in the store that left me high and dry after taking payment in full.Triton is a great example of how to provide value to customers.
Very cool store. Love the HUGE tank. Good selection of coral. Some rare fish too. The owners of the store are knowledgeable and helpful. I come here anytime i need something for my tanks.
Awesome store, even better service and selections! Thanks Triton Marine. I’ll be back!!
I love this store. Great selection! Excellent quality! Great advice! Treasure to have on the east side of town.
Jen (one of the owners) is always smiling and easy to talk to. Shes extremely knowledgeable about fish and invertebrates.
Love this store! Id visit more often if it wasnt so far away from me but well worth the drive. Such a clean modern store and owned by friendly hip owners. Love that they quarantine there new fish. They always have interesting corals and fish and will search and order fish for you that you cant find. I specially love that Jen one of the owners has a interest in decorative macro algaes like I do and we have traded our rarer macro algaes between each other. Keep doing what your doing because its superior!
Great selection of coral, good selection of fish. People are knowledgeable and friendly. Finally, pricing is very good, particularly for their fish.
Great shop, healthy livestock and great selection especially sps. It would be nice if more of the coral prices were marked. Im sure not the easiest thing with the amount of inventory, but it would be helpful in deciding what corals will fit your budget without having to ask how much each coral is.
Best in Northeast ohio for your aquarium needs
Amazing shop and even more amazing people. Aways has been and always will be my go-to place for my saltwater needs!
Poor customer service not true to their word. Tell you they will do something and do not follow through.
I love this place, they always give me good advice. The fish and corals are beautiful .
Honest, helpful & knowledgeable. Answered my questions without judgement or bias.
Awesome selection & very knowledgeable staff
Guy was a jerk. Ive Only ever done small saltwater setups. So when I started asking what a protein skimmer is and how it works, he acted annoyed and even rolled his eyes when I brought it up again. I talked to the girl the first time I went in about a year ago and she was nice. Store is clean and well cared for. But since I got treated like an idiot and left angry I will never go back. It is sad that there are so few LFS left and unfortunately this is one of them. .
Very knowledgeable staff!! Very clean, great quality products, very helpful.
Very friendly and knowledgeable, by far the best place for saltwater aquatic needs.
Friendly, knowledgeable, nice selection, and fair! I’ve been coming and sending people here for years!
Very cool place. Nice, knowledgeable employees.
Always friendly service, notable and accurate advice given, they own and run the business and actually care about their customers! Highly recommend.
Its very neat and and clean with a good selection of fish and corals. The owners are very nice and knowledgeable.
Coral selection was great.
Love this place...my one stop shop for all my needs
Shop was busy, associate was patient, helped answer questions outside of just what livestock I was buying. Fish and corals were all healthy. Will def be back!
Love this place! The owners are incredibly friendly and super helpful!!!
Has all that you will need and some wow how clean and great corals..#1
