Like many other here, had a great tour. Really was a magical experience. Our whole group bought bottles, many of them on back order. COVID then hit and got an email saying it would just be a few more weeks. Its now 10 months later, nobody responds to emails or phone calls. Would really just like to have my order at this point.
What a magical experience, boat rides and secret passage ways to new tastes. Each tour guide had their own story to tell and pieces of history to share about the making of this distillery. All the tastings came with its own world and you felt somewhere new. Each little venue you entered had its own detail and was different place, you could be in safari and turn onto a speakeasy :) I don’t want to give too much away because honestly the experience was so unique. Each tasting was sensational in its own way. Easy to find, good amount of street parking and it’s appointment only.
I did a lost spirits tour in November 2019. I had a great time- the staff was friendly and booze was good. So good that I ordered several bottles which were backordered. I was told it would be sent by December. In February 2020 I received an update that it would be a few more weeks. Its now mid September 2020 and I have not received any updates, lost spirits is not responding to email inquiries, and the phone number listed online says its been changed or disconnected. 5 people in my group ordered bottles, one ordered over $400 worth of products and Lost Spirits has not even given us the courtesy of an update. We have receipts. I cannot recommend this establishment for these reasons.
Won’t share too many details as to give it away. A great interactive distillery tour. Great art, setup and details of the history of the distillery as well as the process in itself. Very creative, with great staff who is kinda and knowledgeable. They’re very generous with the tastings as well. Highly recommend if you haven’t been. Voted best distillery tour of the year multiple times.
Fun eclectic tour! When I went, you could taste four beverages: an Abomination series whiskey, a brandy, a Jamaican rum, and a navy-strength rum. But the tour is really about teaching you a bit about what makes their spirits different: the science that speeds up the aging process. And on the way you go from room to room and on a magic bus (there are four buses: ours was a submarine on the way there and a cyber-hologram bus on the way back) to the actual distillery. They make what could be a very dry experience into a very enjoyable and weird time. Highly recommended!!
Ordered a bottle in January, but havent received due to Covid 19 related closures. This is totally fine. Happy to wait.Im unhappy with the ZERO communication (outside of meaningless automated emails) from Lost Spirits. What if I needed to cancel? Its been too long since purchase date to dispute through Credit Card company.Even if this company had replied back and said, Hey, weve fallen on tough times. We cant deliver what you ordered and we need to keep your money too, but if we bounce back youve got a drink on us. I wouldve been stoked. Would have had some empathy. Its not about the amount thats got me writing a bad review, but the complete lack of care these guys have. I guess if you have mechanically engineered aged spirits you also get emotionless robots as the owners, distillers, and sales team.I understand they have a small team. They should be using that as a strength though and actually attempt to connect with a customer instead of retreating behind countless automated emails over the course of months. Have 3000 emails in your inbox? I think 7 months is enough time for you to get through them.I hope you guys have gone out of business, not because that fulfills some kind of vengeful feeling I have, but because I hope thats the only reason why you arent responding to (seemingly) anyone that reaches out to you via email, social channels, etc. Also because if you do bounce back, you guys have zero chance of re-gaining any loyalty. From a lot of people. Whiskey and Rum definitely taste good. But it has to feel good too. And this...this felt not good.
Cute little place, its like stepping back into the 50s! 10$ admission 1-100 and 3$ for the key! You can use the keys to tell stories for each of the characters displayed. My two year old loves it!
Don’t buy their alcohol if it’s not in stock. You’ll never see it. It’s been 11 months and after two polite emails requesting a refund only to be ignored, I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will take it further if these crooks don’t fulfill their end of the deal.
Lovely tour, tasty spirits. I ordered a bottle from them and still havent received it nor a refund 7 months later. Customer support doesnt respond unless I cc the owners.
I dont want to ruin anything for anyone so I will just say that this tour is worth every penny! I cant wait to come back. Its just like being in Willy Wonkas Chocolate factory, full of surprise and wonder! The tour guides were amazing and this tour is everything and more!
This is the most unique experience in Los Angeles. It includes a tour, a maze-like walk around, a boat, a bus leading to who knows where, a tram, science and innovation! Hilarious, surprising and of course the alcohol isnt bad either! Dont wait. Book your tour. Take some friends. GO!
We came here for a tour and it was so fun. We enjoyed walking through the maze and all the parts of the tour were fun. Our favorite part was getting on all the busses, all of which have a unique design and theme. The guides were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Most of the scientific stuff went over my head, but I have a new-found appreciation for what goes into distilling spirits.
Great tour experience. Tons of fun and would love to go again. Definitely recommended. My girlfriend and I went middle of August. The tastings are quite good. Enough so that we ordered 4 bottles at the end of the tour. After waiting 4 months they finally were delivered!
I went to a tour in February said it would be available in May still dont have it try calling and emailing no response as of yet. Im very disappointed, I think your very unprofessional . not to send any emails to your customer to inform us on any updates.me and my sister purchased alest 12 bottles between us.so you can understand why Im upset about my purchases.
This was a surprisingly awesome tour. Not just a distillery tour, but also a very entertaining show. Well worth spending an evening at the Lost Spirits Distillery. And, the taste samples are great!
When I visited Feb 2020, it was a unique, whimsical experience with excellent tastings. During my visit, I ordered a bottle of Sayers of the Law which was due in April or May.Then the pandemic hit.Its understandable that production would be limited or halted during the pandemic, but Ive not received one email from them since March about becoming a shareholder. Theres Been nothing on their social media since May. No status updates, updates on their well-being or production, nothing.Just any word or updates on them would be most welcome. Until then, I have no options to see where my order is, or if I can even expect it within the next one, to, or 10 years.
Waste of money and time. The tour lasts two hours in general and almost 1 hour you will be in the bus to move from that place to the place where the production is supposedly located. Fortunately, I used to be in real distilleries before and I know how it looks. Heres just decorations, kind of Disneyland for alcoholics. Offered drinks for tasting were absolutely impossible to drink. Whiskey tastes and smells like burnt rubber tires. Rum is as a cheap home-made moonshine with rubbing alcohol from CVS. I recommend this place to everyone who wants to laugh at himself. Monument to hipsters and millenials!
I have been trying to get a refund for a tour that was scheduled for April 4th. I have been emailing and leaving messages on your answer machine since March, but no response. Seems like you dont care about the current situation and are only interested in money. Very, very poor customer service. I noticed that others are in the same situation on your Facebook page.
Lost Spirits Distillery is a uniquely wonderful experience! The tour is fantastic and unique and the spirits are delicious!! The tour guides are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and make sure you enjoy your visit. I highly recommend the spirits and the tour! Great for one, a couple or a group! I’m sure I will come back again and again.
If youre a alcohol drinking adult in LA you need to check these guys and gals out. The Alice in wonderland / Gullivers travels tasting tour is out of this world. I would describe it as a Disneys Haunted Mansion on brown acid. Buy bottles of their hooch, its delicious and a conversation starter. It used to be that they gave you a free ticket to the show if you bought a bottle. They make great xmas gifts.Rum recipe: (mix to taste)2 whole pink lemons (juice only)Bourbon barrel aged maple syrupEither of their RumsIce
What do you get when you put creative geeks and distillery science in a beaker with a pinch of fantasy? Lost Spirits distillery! This place has had many incarnations and it currently sits in the arts district in downtown LA. The tour will leave you mesmerized and full of hope for the creative spirit of the future. It’s a great date place, a great buds place and a great touristy spot. If you like whisker and rum, science and innovation, and escapism and technology then this tour is for you.
Super fun tour! All the tour guides were super friendly and very knowledgeable. Being in two locations was a super fun added bonus. Only bummer was the bottles you buy during the tour get shipped to you. Totally worth it and Id go again.
This is not only the best distillery experience Ive ever had, but just generally one of the coolest things Ive ever done. Hands down my favorite activity to show friends/family in LA. Do not miss out on this!
Good tour 8 weeks ago. Bought some bottles on the tour and they said they would send the one they didnt have there to us. We still have not received that bottle and when you call the number for the distillery it is always busy. They said it would take two 2 four weeks. The contact goes to email but no email address. How do we get our bottle we bought? The other two couples bought the same thing and have not received theirs either. Someone help please. Need someway to communicate to Lost Spirits other than driving back to find out what is up?
Casual Drinker or connoisseur, doesnt matter who you are I guarantee you will have a great time here, The distillery is not open to the public but they do book tours up to 8 people which are very close and personal, you begin the tour in a... well I wont spoil it to you but you probably want to take your friends or loved one, this isnt like anything youve seen before, it will take you to another time, another place, its just magical, the price of admission its worth the tour on itself plus you will be tasting a time traveling Rum that its so good youll end up buying a bottle at the end! The Host Bryan Davis is so knowledgeable, you can ask him any questions about the process of many spirits and he will be able to explain you with details, the place its full of surprises and you will want to tell everyone you know about it after youre done, who wouldve thought this hidden gem will be in the heart of LA.
Has always been a great experience and wonderful staff on a great tour through LAs arts district.
The tour is fun and the booze is great. Its so good that I purchased a bottle of Jamaican Rum early September of last year (2019). I was told that the Rum was still in pre-production, but I could get it delivered in 6 weeks. After 6 weeks I had received no updates, so I sent an email, that went unanswered. By November I sent a second email, this time I was told that there was an issue with back orders but my bottle would ship in two weeks. I even filled a form with my address. Its January and the bottle is still nowhere to be seen. The situation in itself is annoying, but the lack of communication from Lost Spirits is just appalling. I dont think they are in bad faith, but their business practices leave a lot to be desired.
If you are spending any amount of time in LA you MUST do the Lost Spirits Distillery tour. This tour is whimsical, its absurdist, its nerdy as hell. The engineering is incredibly impressive, they walk you through the most niche scientific steps of every process, and everyone seems like they really love their job.Youve never seen anything like this, I promise. Go.
A Hidden Gem in the Art District of LA.The Lost Spirits Distillery blends whiskey and science making 25yr old wiskey in a matter of days. The best way I can describe this funky tour is calling it the Willy Wonka of whiskey factories.Start off with a mysterious introduction of whats to come on the tour as you go through several different rooms buy boat and bus that are as distinct in their decoration as they are in their whiskey and rum tastings.Youll enjoy 4 different types of whiskey and rum tastings through the door as well as learning the science behind their distilling process.Just like Jurassic Park could bring back extinct animals their science is on The Cutting Edge of being able to bring back extinct spirits. So if youre looking for something to do thats off the beaten path thats unique and youll remember for a lifetime spend a couple of hours at the Lost Spirits Distillery.
Awesome experience on top of producing delicious spirits. Definitely worth a visit
You have to check out their tour! Guarantee you have never don anything like it. So much fun!!!
Great place! Perfect event to take anyone who can drink! Coolest use of science around!
The tour is amazing. The whole distillery has a cool vibe and you can tell every employee is passionate about the company and what they are doing. All of the tour guides were a wealth of knowledge and were able to talk through the distilling process at a deep scientific level without it being boring. As far as the spirits, super impressive and flavorful. Really great experience.
This place is super cool. The tour is weird and cheesy and Disney-esque in a wonderful, boozy way. The spirits are really tasty and interesting. You’ll learn a lot about distilling!
Love this place!! This was such an awesome and unique experience...I cant wait to visit again..
Best tour ever! I bought tickets to the tour as a surprise for my husband. I was worried he wouldnt like it, but boy was I wrong! He loved it!!! Its true, you dont have to drink to enjoy the experience (I was the designated driver). Cant wait to tour again with friends!
Amazing one of a kind experience. Do it.
Had a great time and learned a lot about new techniques being developed by a young and enthusiastic team. The tour was awesome and the rum, brandy and whiskey we tasted was top notch. Cant wait to open my bottle of Abomination tonight. Looking forward to my next visit.
If I could give this place 6 stars I would happily do so. The tour is worth every penny. It is a 90+ minute adventure through different artist landscapes, with plenty of 100+ proof samples along the way. Although it is very hot inside during the summer, its worth it. And if you purchase a bottle at the end of the tour you get a free return ticket. If you are on the fence, do it.
By far one of the most interesting and entertaining distillery tours Ive done. And the booze was very good! I dont want to give away too much but it is an experience that I would highly recommend.
Fantastic tour in Los Angeles and great products as well.
ILLEGAL PRACTICE SELLING ALCOHOL!!!! THIS PLACE WILL BE SHUT DOWN.WOW had my stuff stolen here still no response 3 weeks later. Be careful with your belongings here. Also the setup of the place seems very precarious especially with people who are drinking, lots of trip hazards, lots of time spent in the dark, I think the fire marshal would NOT approve of this. Owners are drunks, they make no sense over phone and email, looks like someone has to drink all that smokey whisky.... Also, they are doing illegal business here, you HAVE to sign an affidavit if you want to purchase their whisky if you can call it that because it is ILLEGAL TO PURCHASE AND SELL IF YOU ARE A RESIDENT OF CA. FOLKS, THESE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE SELLING WHISKY BY STATE LAW. THEY DO SO WITH MAKING THEIR CUSTOMERS SIGNS AN AFFIDAVIT. HOW SHADY IS THIS? Maybe thats why they have these annoying birds screaming at you to purchase whisky in their gift shopt because its illegal for them to sell you whisky. Again, shady. I am a resident of CA, signed the affidavit and they didnt even confirm whether or not I am a resident event though they saw my CA license? SHADY and ILLEGAL. How is this ethical? Im going to report them to CA Liquor license since this is CLEARLY a breach in the law, as well as the fire marshal as this place is hazardous with trips and falls especially with alcohol involved. How can you turn all the lights off and not have ANY SECURITY??? My stuff was stolen here. They need and WILL BE SHUT DOWN.
This Distillery is not open to the public unless you take their tour that they offer at specific times during the weekend. Plan ahead, their tours book up a few weeks in advance. Overall, my experience here was amazing. The tour was fantastic the people that run this distillery are nerdy about their alcohol which makes this tour informative and fun. Not to mention everything we tasted was phenomenal! They took their ideas and turned their distillery into a fun, artistic and decadent representation of themselves and delicious alcohol. I dont want to give away too much of the tour but think Pirates of the Caribbean, meets Tarzan and Jane, meets Back the Future. They are also still growing into their space so you can see that they are expanding their artistic vision and alcoholic endeavors. The experience they created is just fantastic. Not to mention Tessa is incredibly impressive. She might hit it off with Jarvis. Lol. Sorry, nerd humor. Try this place, take the tour! Rum, Brandy, Whiskey and Scotch. Its worth every minute. The creators of this place have really created something beautiful here.
This was such an amazing experience! I would have paid the $35 just for a simple tour, which is what I thought this would be, but they really transformed the experience. Its like a show-tour. It was just so much fun and their products are excellent. Wish wed been able to get a bottle of the Jamaican room, but I guess well just have to go back!
This place is amazing, a treat for adults, I absolutely loved the whole experience!
Love the front entrance... so mysterious!! Didnt know what to expect behind that door.It is a two hours tour. It reminds me of a theme park!!! SUPER informative of how they make their liquor. SUPER creative how they build the whole facility. Every section of the tour is always a big surprise. We got to taste the whisky and listen to how they started their company. What a fun tour!!! Highly recommended~
Such a unique experience fun and enjoyable!!!
Just went for a 2nd time while we had friends in town. Totally worth it!!! Everything had changed so Its a dirrerent experience. Its like no other distillery tour. Fun time even if you dont like booze. Its like a living art project. Youll find yourself on super interesting and fun transportation several times. More samples than the average tour as well.
Very cool experience. Great tour. Amazing developments in the chemistry of the spirits. Its a skeleton crew of people behind this en-devour, so you get a tour from one of the partners. His enthusiasm is apparent and make the tour very fun.
Best distillery tour ever! Like being in Willy Wonka!
Everyone knows that I have put together hundreds of outings over the years, but let me preface this by saying that two of my closest friends told me it was the absolute best event I have ever organized. The Lost Spirits Distillery tour is the best kept secret in this entire city! (If it isnt I would surely love you to point out what is so I can go.)This rum and whiskey distillery has been created by nerds and geeks who absolutely revel in their nerdy geekery in all its glory. The tour is like nothing you have ever experienced no matter how many distilleries or breweries you might have toured in your lifetime. Its as if Willy Wonka and Walt Disney on a small budget decided to concoct alcohol and invited friends to come visit their creation, thats what we got to experience tonight, with two of the most enthusiastic tour guides youll ever be lucky to get.I should also point out that I dont particularly care about alcohol, but this would be a truly great and fun experience even if you dont partake in the tastings. What these young people have put together, the way theyre doing it, its just...brilliant...
Just do it. What these guys are up to is just mind-blowing. Ive been on plenty of distillery tours and this one is on a totally different wavelength in the best possible way. So creative. Keep it up guys.
Very cool tour. You can tell the passion these people have for what they do. It’s awesome.
Very nice staff awesome place to take a tour
Still waiting on my order its been more than 6 weeks and still nothing. Not even a courtesy email or call with information on my order. Very frustrating!!
Very fun & interesting tour!
We took the 4:20 tour last Saturday. A really fun group of people. The place is the big red building on the north of the street. Parking is a challenge as there is no parking lot. Parking is available along the north side of the street, but was completely full up when I got there. The next street north did have some parking others in our group found. I went to the pay parking east of the distillery for $16. There was also parking to the south for $10, but was full when I got there. The tour starts with you signing your life away in case of injury and getting a bottle of water to take with you. You then head into a mysterious sitting room where they give you some 60% ETOH rum and discuss the history of the place and rum. Quite good in all respects. Off for a short boat ride to the brewery and then distillery. Then more sitting and another drink to try. Walk through the jungle to the research area and more to tasting. All told you get to try 4 drinks of 1/2 oz each at about 50% ETOH for all. Amazing set decoration and really knowledgeable descriptions of what they do and why. The tour ends up in the gift shop and their version of the Tiki Room which is cute. We finished at the perfect time for dinner, which we walked to as there are lots of dining places within a 10 min walk. None of felt safe to drive. After a wonderful dinner we were sober enough to drive off and enjoy the rest of the evening. All 5 of us had a great time. One star off for parking.
Such a unique tour experience. Staff was amazing, and tastings were delicious. I was amazed and impressed.
Nice and professional, I highly suggest at least one visit!
If you like science, history, theatre tech, special tricks, Disney-esque experiences, or, of course, alcohol, this tour is guaranteed to make you smile and leave you incredibly satisfied. Plus, the employees and their business are pretty amazing. 10/10 would recommend.
The Willy Wonka of Alcohol. You will not regret a tour.
Amazing in every way
Awesome, if you wanna pay too much for a bottle of peet-flavored vodka. The tour itself is enjoyable but the product being pushed can be bested by a liquor store for less.
It was wonderful hearing about the processes used to create each spirit, and the atmosphere was incredibly fun!
Great tour
We appreciated their passion for the craft, but not paying $35 for racism. In the tour, natives chase you from a tent and the founder declares himself The Grand Poobah. We were referred to a YouTube video in which said founder dismisses a professor of chemistry for being old. One person on our tour noted the Latinx accent used by a parrot who speaks broken English. The whole thing is pretty offensive and reeks of tech bro attitude.[update: Thanks, Bryan, for your response. Poobah entered the English lexicon through Gilbert and Sullivans _The Mikado_ (1885). Section 6.2 of the plays Wikipedia page, Japanese setting; stereotype criticism, provides historical context that the dictionary definition does not. On the Enchanted Tiki Room, and Disneys problematic history of racial, gender, and linguistic representation, see virtually anything produced by the company in the 20th c. Finally, anyone can be anything. We understood from the tour that the company has 5 co-owners. The statistics below seem to reference employees. Im glad that you have a diverse workforce, but some of your employees might not feel comfortable speaking up because they need to keep their jobs.]
Cool spot for tasting
Loved every minute of it .
Worth it.
