I decided it was time to find some extra $$$ and hire a personal trainer. I was guided to Shana at Sports Training Los Angeles and she is GREAT. Shes got a background in diving/gymnastics, which is perfect because Im still dabbling with tumbing and circus classes in my advancing years. While shes extremely friendly, she is a task master and doesnt let me get by with sloppy form. Thats what I would expect from a someone with her background. Ask for her !
Alex Osborne is the best! His energy and workout etiquette is stellar! Hes great at giving positive affirmations and encouragement to get you through his killer workouts! You need some Alex in your life!
Quick update Ive been training with Max on and off for the last few months - mostly for the sake of my wallet because if I could I would train with him everyday! This guy pushes you to your limits and I mean he really pushes you. My legs and arms actually tremble after sessions . Cant say enough about him. Hes also recently put me on a hybrid lifting/cardio regime thats just been shredding this excess weight which Ive been unable to lose. Will update again in a few months time but so far - Amazing!
Gym is really nice and theyre the only gym that has their own custom water bottles :D Me and my gf tried their free pass as I came to visit in the City because I stay in San Jose, Ca. Melanie, one of the employees was really helpful and genuine. Joey who is their fitness director was a really cool dude! The gym makes you feel welcome. They have plenty of equipment, tires, box jumps etc. Definitely a training facility I would join if I lived in SF
1) Men dressed as bumblebees arent always friendly. It doesnt even matter if youre buzzed. Whereas, men dressed as pirates are a little too friendly. Make sure they keep their swords to themselves.
Fitness CA is a wonderful and reasonably priced gym. More specifically, Joey DeProspero is a tremendous trainer. He pushes hard and helps you reach your best. At the same time, he is always positive and able to give technique tips, even for someone whos spent some time in gyms before. Big thumbs up!
The squash camp at the Sports Training run by Erick and Bailey has been hands down the most comprehensive, thoughtful and fun camp we have ever done! Our son who is only 7 has loved it and has requested to do 3 more weeks, now on his 4th week and his enthusiasm hasnt wained.
Love the crew of people from staff to the members . Id lost my religious medallion and chain long story made short it was all returned to me. Thanks to a great bunch of people. Keep your faith in humanity! Love all you guys.
Bring some corn tortillas (to throw into the running crowd)And make some new friends. You may see a few birthday suited runners.
I dont know where I was the night before, but I definitely remember walking off muni at civic center, heading towards my apartment.... when I noticed something was fishy (both in sight and smell.
Aside from the clean gym and ample equipment at Sports Training Los Angeles, I just wanted to give a shoutout to my fav personal trainer, Patrick!
Awesome gym with a huge weights space and selection and great cardio machines. Ample free parking and good hours. The only issue is the membership price is high and this location lacks a pool and sauna.
I love love love love my gym Sports Training Los Angeles . Great classes, friendly staff, Sports Training Los Angeles in the front. Its the best.
Great space, well maintained machines, kept clean, free towel service, nice friendly people at front desk. Love it
Clean, tall tall ceilings, and high tech machines with tvs on them!! So glad I chose this gym over 24 Hour fitness which is only $5 cheaper and smells like a foot
Okay, when you think it is 5PM and it is really 10AM and you are drunk out of your mind and asking strangers if you can pee in their house you know you are in big big trouble.
I clearly remember not going back to a boutique workout place because they made all their members wipe down with cleaning wipes that would make me high due to inhaling the strong fumes after a hard workout, and also inhaling the previous persons wipe down before the workout (they made no time for the mats to dry).
Great gym. They have a lot to do at this place. I took a Zumba class. The instructor was Nicole. She is awesome!!!! Very good music and she is involved with her students on the floor. She had me sweating. Lol! Cant wait to take her class again.
Good customer service: acknowledging your clients needs, identifying the issue while seeing it from their perspective, and trying to mitigate that issue in whatever way you can.Poor example of customer service: demonstrating a lack of understanding and willingness to hear a client out and continue to uphold a toxic environment in which your client does not feel safe or comfortable.
Warning: you could have a game at 11pm on a weeknight.Old refs are great. Young refs need to take their jobs more seriously.
STLA is THE BEST training gym in the city ! The trainers are well skilled professionals that know their stuff. It’s always a great interaction with the people there and a major workout !And I heard they also have yoga ;)
As a current client, Darrell is absolutely the best personal trainer I have ever worked with. Not only professional and focused, he is tough, highly motivational and fun.I have never gotten results like these from any other trainer. I believe this is because Darrell not only understands the science of personal training, he also understands the science of motivation. When you feel like you cant keep going, Darrell will get you there. No matter what your fitness goals, I am certain that Darrell will be more than able to help you get there. Please know that I give him my highest ratings, and will happily continue to train with him.
This facilities response to constructive feedback demonstrates their inability to promote and foster an inclusive and safe space where all feel welcome.
I entered into the boxing ring for a instruction with a male instructor named Jonathon. He noticed my shirt that read, Women are dope, made a face and then started commenting on it. He said, Women are dope huh? I said - yes and dont you forget it. I thought he was just poking fun at first, but then he repeated himself forcing the same response out of me and I could tell his tone was more aggressive than a basic (yet inappropriate) joke. Immediately I could tell he was triggered by my shirt, which is a gender equality shirt intended to send out a simple positive message about women to women. He then asked me why It doesnt say, men are dope on the back to counter the front. I told him it was implied and that women have been oppressed for centuries so I dont need to compliment men on my shirt. I told him he could wear a men are dope shirt if he wanted to. He told me he would get heat for that and I asked him why he thought that was the case. He didnt answer that but instead He went on in a defensive aggressive tone about how all people have been oppressed, not just women. I said thats true but thats a separate subject and if he wanted to have a discussion we could after class. He ignored my request for him to stop talking and went on saying that a female client accused him of putting a man on his logo for his gym and that the logo could easily be a woman with short hair. Even though this comment was irrelevant I looked at the logo on the wall and it is very clear that it is a figure of a man, but I made no comment on this. Instead I told him I was not talking about his logo and that this isnt the time to discuss this considering I was trying to attend a boxing class. He again ignored my request for him to stop talking and then went on to say that people (implying me) bring other people down just to bring other people up. His tone and aggressive words persisting on made me feel unsafe as well as scared that now he might hit me by accident because my equality shirt was upsetting him - and whats worse- because I signed a waiver hed be off the hook if he did hit me. For context - he is a 6+ foot experienced male boxer and I am a 53 inexperienced 110ib woman. I began to feel nervous and unsafe. I stopped responding to his words and he finally dropped the subject and continued to host a short lesson for a minute longer. He ended up hitting me in the head with a pad. I was supposed to duck under it to practice a move that I had just learned but I didnt duck in time considering I am a beginner. I wondered if he hit me on purpose because of his anger at my shirt. It would be hard to prove anything because that was a part of the boxing class and he knew I signed a waiver relieving the gym of any injuries incurred there. I didnt say anything as I didnt want to get hit again, so I uncomfortably finished out his lesson hoping he wouldnt hit me again taking advantage of my beginner skills. When we finished I exited the ring in shock at what just happened. I continued the workout a little while longer feeling confused about what Jonathon had just said to me. The more I thought about it the more I realized that I was just in a boxing ring with a large man who instead of teaching me defense, decided to verbally berate me + express his anti gender equality stance to me while intimidating me and ignoring what I had to say.Later that night I sent a direct message to the gym on instagram stating that their instructor berated me during class about my shirt. They responded a week later saying, sorry you were not happy with our complimentary class. Thanks for the feedback. Best of luck in all you do. =). This makes me think their response insinuates that because the class is a free trial, my negative experience is irrelevant. They didnt apologize or address Jonathons comments at all. Im disappointed and disgusted by their response and by Jonathons behavior. I recommend finding any other boxing gym. Preferably one that can admit when theyre wrong + understands gender equality.
Coach Jon and coach Darrell are awesome. They create a great environment for fitness and training and always bring the best out of me. They truly care about their clients. Ive lost 12 lbs in a month because of STLA. Their boxing instruction is unmatched and is great for both novice and experienced boxers.Perfect gym for any athlete in any sport or for anyone looking for a lifestyle change. Also very affordable. I wish I lived closer.
I recommend checking out brittani’s tuesday stretch class! she cares for your body mind and soul and teaches you how to connect to your own body. after a couples sessions under her nurturing wings of guidance i felt empowered and full of self knowledge to continue my stretch and strength journey on my own. but of course i allways go back to train with brittani as she will allways show you a new level of self is attainable. i advise anyone to seek her out.
I joined this gym because I got a job in the building right next to it and was really unhappy with LA fitness. The customer service is great and I really think the staff knows what they are talking about. The cardio equipment has individual tvs- the locker rooms are nice and clean, and the smoothies are pretty tasty. Only issue I would have is that it gets pretty crowded on Friday nights (who would have thought) and you need to wait for machines.
I was visiting Los Angeles California and stopped in to see what was going on in a local gym and found the well known celebrity trainer Darrell Rhodes Jr. whom I got the opportunity to get in unscheduled after telling him I was from Atlanta Georgia. I did a 1 hour session and I was never worked out so hard in my life. It was the greatest. Go visit hi or a session asap. He even takes phone calls and does phone consultations. Thanks Darrell
Great environment very motivating trainers that are there to help assist you. They are a very convenient understanding patience and helpful if you have bad back problems as well as knees shoulders Etc had me feeling like a million bucks when I left
