I think JAPAN HOUSE is a project which aims to nurture a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japan in the international community, by creating a number of hubs from which to showcase and communicate. Japan as a country of countless charms, able to enrich the rest of the world.January 25, 2018 My friend Amber bought a glass ink pen to me as my birthday gift,I like that very much. It is very special and beautiful. I draw a painting via the pen.
Great exhibits on display (have been for three different events, all were wonderful), easy parking (only $3 with validation) and the staff are always very nice. I just hope they bring back the wider product selection. Oh yeah, and its free!
Free museum display of the works of a wood company based out of Hida Japan. It is used to boost tourism to the area. The staff are friendly and provide detailed information about the displays.
This place gave my kid a gift, paper mask. That was nice of them. One hour later, we walked by the place and someone came out and asked for the mask back. They said they recycle them. My kid drooled all over the mask, now they’re going to sell it or give it to someone else. I just hope some other kid didn’t put it in their mouth before they gave it to my kid. Very strange place. Looks like they spend thousands on rent, but need a $2 mask back if you don’t buy anything. Weird way to run a business. Maybe it’s just there for people to look inside and walk by. I don’t recommend you take any gifts from them, who knows where it’s been.UPDATED POST- 7/19/19They reached out to me and apologized for their error. Their email explained that there was a miscommunication between two departments of their store, and certain employees were instructed to collect the masks that were given out earlier. The masks were only to be worn temporarily, in the store. However, the employees handing out the masks, began handing them out outside the store, and it appeared to be a complimentary gift. Anyway, I appreciate the explanation and I understand that mistakes happen. I’ll give them another chance, and check it out again in the future.
Lovely staff, beautiful and interesting exhibition
Great exhibitions
Japanese cultural and artistic immersion. High quality art and beautiful merchandise albeit somewhat pricy.
We found out the Sho Fujimoto exhibit was closing out tomorrow so we made our way to check the exhibit out this weekend. The exhibit was showcased as part of the Japan House LA collaboration. The doors to Japan House on the 2d floor open exactly at 10am and give room to window shopping before moving on to the exhibition area.I like the concept of bringing various arts from Japanese artists and hosting them in a centralized location to showcase. I will warn items are over priced so be prepared to have some sticker shock and have some reservations over buying something. You’ll more than likely be able to purchase the same items through e-commerce for a lower price. The project is backed by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs so I’m pretty sure we’ll continue to see the site host future exhibits.Aside from the price we really enjoyed the store and the exhibit. There’s a Japanese book library on the 5th floor (a bit hidden, but it’s there). You can’t purchase the books, but it’s a great spot to grab inspiration for future reads on everything from food to architecture. Be ready to copy some ISBN’s down!We have a reservation for their restaurant in a few weeks so I’ll make sure to post an update with photos and a review
