Rancho Los Cerritos is absolutely dazzling and the tour guide was amazing! She was very open to questions, informative, and allowed everyone time to soak in the surroundings. Showed up on a beautifully sunny day and the colors of the rancho just popped. You learn about the rancho from its earliest days as a ranching operation to its more recent history being remodeled and updated. For a taste of Long Beach history, besides checking out the Banning House and the Port of Long Beach, this is a definite place to check out. Tour was free, the property verdant, and the Rancho itself was resplendent in its history and bright colors.

We took a bus tour here with our garden club... and it was absolutely amazing.... we watched a short film at their visitor center when we got there.... then we were split up in two groups... we toured the gardens and inside the ranch home.... then they set up tables for us in their private garden.... where we ate lunch. There is plenty to see inside and outside of the Rancho. All of the people who work at Rancho Los Cerritos ... including their docents were absolutely lovely people..... This is a must see for everyone.... for just yourself and / or big groups.Very interesting history.....THANK YOU TO RANCHO LOS CERRITOS!!!

This place pleasantly takes you back in time. The reception we received was quite friendly. While they arranged for our docent tour of the home we asked for a wheelchair. One was available making it easier on us. We did not have time for the gardens, but cosidering our experience visiting the home, it not matter. We will be back to see the gardens another time, but the home was a delight. It reminded me of the times I visited my grandparents home in Connecticut as a child. So filled with good memories.

Our docent gave us a pre-tour while we were waiting for another group to join us. We received so much information about the history of the area in that little bit of time. You must see the video downstairs to appreciate the original builders of this part of the country they created. The biggest part of the tour was the large complex next to the visitors center. Finally, we were shown a section of the outside wall where the original Bixby occupants marked their heights on the adobe wall. That reminded me of Pompeii where the kids marked graffiti on their walls.

In todays Southern California, it is difficult to find remnants of what was here before all the people came. Rancho Los Cerritos is one of those remnants. The adobe was built in 1844 when California was part of Mexico. Today, you can take a free guided tour of this historic gem. The tour took about 90 minutes and was extremely in-depth. If you like California history, this is a must-see.

Great little historical site to visit! If you want to learn a lot about the history of the city of Long Beach, this is the place to go. I really appreciate the tour guides who take on personas (including their clothes) from that time period. They know a lot and were able to answer any questions our group had. There is also a library here full of historical texts that I was unaware of. Great if youre doing research.
