Im currently have a membership at this pottery studio. I have been going here for a few months now and I cant lie but I love this place. The workers are friendly and honestly do a lot to keep this studio running. In the front of the studio, there are pottery pieces that members have made and are for sale. In the middle theres a shelf of things youre allowed to use and 6 wheels available to use. Towards the back, there are the kilns, sink, and restroom.Currently we are in a pandemic but Clay on First has been doing really well keeping the place clean and tighty. There are disposable masks available to use. Hand sanitizers available in 2 different places. Lysol spray to disinfect.I could tell this studio really cares about their members. Whenever I had questions about anything during after hours, I would shoot them an email and they have always responded pretty quickly. The staff are amazing and they have a lot of things available to use along with their membership. Some things this studio has the following available to use:-restroom-Roughly 20 cone 10 glazes / hand drill to mix glazes-under glazes-Bats / bat pins-Wax /wax brushes-sponges-Trimming tools / needle tools / ribs / etc-slab roller-pot lifters-Scale-6 throwing wheels-spay bottles-aprons / towelsPS. This list is not everything but most things I could think off my head. This studio has a lot of things so you dont really have to go out to buy your own things unless you want to.I honestly think Ill keep the membership here because its a good studio and playing with clay is really relaxing.
My friend and I did a groupon deal and had a good time in the class, but neither of us got our finished pieces that we had paid for. We both called several times to inquire about the bowls, but were told there was no record of us having been there. I don’t know if it was because it went through groupon or if they just didn’t take our info properly when they happily took our money - it’s an extra charge if you want to keep the finished product - but we never got what we paid for.
My wife and I spent our Valentines here enjoying an awesome beginners clay throwing class (for those of you who are as inexperienced in crafts as I am, throwing is the term for when you spin the clay on a wheel xP). Everything was fantastic from the instructor to the included drinks and food. We will definitely be coming back to try some of their classes soon!
Great little studio and a very helpful staff had my parents, brother and I throwing clay in no time. The class was a little on the pricey side considering you dont keep the pieces you create during the class, but our instructor was great and we all had a great time learning without the pressure of making perfect creations.10/10, would suck at centering again.
The Studio: Small studio. There is a small section of retail selling cute little ceramics. Step inside, there is a big table for prepping the clay. There are total 8 stations. The Class: Small class (6-8 people) which is great because everyone can get some attention from the instructor. Our instructor, Alice, is AWESOME!! She is young and has good energy. Super friendly and explain every step in detail in the class. She will help you when she sees you are struggling. This is an introductory class. We learn about how to operate the machine and get to create 3 items (bowls & cups). Nothing fancy for the first class but it is definitely a good learning experience. They only have 3 aprons in the studio so if you have one at home, bring it with you. You are going to get dirty, dont wear nice clothes or any jewelry. Wear something comfortable. After you finish the raw piece, you can choose what color to put on the ceramic. The studio will finish the item for you, $5 per each piece. It takes about 6-8 weeks to pick up the final product.Overall, EXCELLENT hands on experience!! FUN FUN FUN~The Parking: Street metered parking (2 hours, free after 6pm), during weekends, might be challenging
First of all, let me just say that I love Clay. No, I am literally going to marry Clay. Hes my fiancé...and also the owner of this business.Ive stopped by the studio on a few occasions with Clay a handful of times, but never participated or even put my hands in the Clay.On Valentines Day this year, we attended the Toast to Ghost class taught by Sara, and she did a great job of leading a fun class in a non-intimidating atmosphere. It also doesnt hurt that I am naturally skilled at working with Clay.Eloise (the manager) is also very helpful and fun to be around.Im definitely going to sign up for one of the longer class series because of how much I enjoyed this event. If I could take all of the stars from all of the galaxies and apply them to the rating of this business, I would. Unfortunately, I cant, which is why this is only a 5 star review.
Sometimes I wonder if my heart is made of clay, because of how many pieces is breaks into....
The clay studio is in a great area of long beach. Lots to see and do. I treated my family to pottery class. We had a good time though for a more learner experience check out the clay studio in culver city, better instruction for beginners. Now why one star we never received our pieces we made yet we were charged full price and they took the money, have my money its been over 60 days.I have no more to say just that if you want the pieces you make beware of this studio, not customer oriented. Hmmm how would that work if I just decided not to teach my students as a teacher I believe we are what we model and this company models bad business.
Fun class to learn introduction to pottery. Great teacher.Only disappointment was the extra charges and the insane time for baking the parts.
These are great people with a cool studio and I couldnt be happier with my monthly membership. The wheels are first class and the owner, Clay, is easy going, patient, and always ready to help and so are the people who work for him. If youre into ceramics, this place is a hidden gem.
Great fun - nice date spot. Zach is super nice.
A lot of fun! we made several different projects. I didnt do as bad as I thought I would, and the instructor was very helpful.
I think this is s pretty good place for kids or adults to take pottery wheel lessons, but it is NOT set up for kids parties which they advertise. If you are planning a kids party, pay attention. Everyone else can ignore it.I took a few kids for party. I asked BEFORE I ever signed up if the teacher was used to kids and had patience. I was told yes......From my experience, thats not accurate. These were not little monsters. They were 12 year olds who liked the activity. The teacher did not smile or give any words of encouragement. She looked pained to be there and not like she was having fun. She also had the kids trying to completely clean up on their own....putting away supplies, cleaning tools and sponges, washing buckets and pottery wheel take apart pieces....all with one set of unclear instructions. I personally oversaw the washing and cleaning. The kids and I had to ask her for instructions that she forgot to give us. Frustrating! And I was a customer, but it was left up to me???? She checked her phone and walked off, but came to let us know what still needed to be cleaned. Shouldnt she have been supervising and helping?Second big problem is that there is no CLEAN area to eat or a table and chairs to sit down at which to eat. Ugh! That is a huge problem for me. Thank goodness there were only ten people as we stood around and ate.Actually, there were two very nice young ladies in the reception area who brought us 3 tall stools. Those employees were very friendly and helpful. I wish theyd taught the class. We could have pulled short stools from work area, but they wouldnt have worked with the very tall work table the kids were standing at to eat, plus there just wasnt room! We were bumping into each other.....smh.The space is just not set up for kids parties. Doesnt anyone who works there have kids? I invite people out, and expect to show them a nice time. I was embarrassed that things were so disorganized and cramped. But,the kids had a good time, and they also had a good time playing on the sidewalk for an hour and a half outside the studio,so their standards arent very high.To be fair, I called the manager before I wrote this review, and she apologized. I asked to speak to the owner, but he doesnt involve himself in the day to day running of the studio. Okaaaaaay? So, if you encounter a problem, you will get an apology.
Fun classes! Very reasonable prices with Groupon deal. Great date night :D
The pottery class they offer is really fun.
