It was a nice visit. Only outdoor is open now. But still we had lots of fun. We went with our 3 year old and he enjoyed well. Kids would love it more. I would really appreciate the efforts put up by the aquarium people in maintaining distancing as well as sanitizing surfaces. Great work
Almost gave 4 stars because of how little amount of attractions there are (COVID times so its understandable), but the customer service was amazing! Everyone was so sweet and kind and you still get to touch the jellyfish, stingrays, some fish and sharks. It costs $19 per adult so we payed $38 for two of us and our son who is under 3 was free. Everything is outside, dont be afraid to go up the stairs, thats where the penguins are and some of the stingrays. We finished in about 30 minutes and then walked the pier where we grabbed a coffee and funnel cake. At the aquarium make sure to validate your parking ticket so you only pay $8 when youre leaving. (You need to put the original ticket in and then the validated ticket and the machine will ask for the $8 so dont lose them!)
Love the Aquarium normally but, the $19 flat rate for ALL ages + $8 parking fee to see 3 SMALL outdoor exhibits had me disappointed. It seemed a bit under kept and there clearly was no attempt to make anything special about it. To top it off 1 exhibit was an additional charge to tour. I get it COVID-19 restrictions, but the tiny outdoor area is just not worth it. My suggestion would be a nice stroll along the boardwalk or Pike shopping center, and spend your money on a nice lunch overlooking the water with your family or friends.
Had a good time going on a Saturday. Had no problem getting a reservation same day a wasnt too crowded. Price for a ticket was only $20 which was fine since the inside wasnt open. Cant wait for the full place to open.
Despite the fact that we were not able to go inside we really enjoyed the outside aquarium. They have interactive tanks where you are able to touch a stingray, shark and even jellyfish. My overall favorite was the aviary. We purchased nectar to feed the birds. I had 6 beautiful birds on me at one point. We really had a good time
Great time for kids of all ages and the young at heart! Ive been here a couple of times, with and without the accompaniment of a child and its been a blast! Great exhibits, I love seeing the otter show! Highly recommend if you want a fun activity for a couple of hours!
The aquariums a fascinating sight for schools & families! Ive been there when I was in 1st grade, & all the fish looked wonderful! Sometimes, when we needed help, the employees were there to help & led us to the right destination that we needed to go to! School field trips are amazingly allowed, which Im proud at, cause Im sure many schools want to see the amazing experience of fish. Itll also teach kids how species of fish are have similarities & differences, its history, etc! The place again is a very fascinating sight for all people to see! Anyone whod like to come here can be able to enjoy their happy stay!
Was okay to visit with kids. They opened the outdoor exhibits NOT indoors. It would definitely worth to visit if they open indoors. It took less than 2 hours to see all the outdoor exhibits. Parking needs to be paid separately. There are lots of sanitizers and washing stations, but social distance is not well kept by people.
It was our first time back since the shutdown in March. The outdoor exhibits are very nicely kept. The food and juice bars outside were open, and the restrooms were nice and clean.
Really had a great time at the aquarium with my family! However since Covid is still going on they have closed the inside of the aquarium to the public. So if you’re interested in going or are attending be aware of that! I would say we took about an hour to explore the aquarium.
Such a wonderful place to go! The aquarium still has things open during social distancing. The area is also beautiful to walk around. Fun for the whole family
Excellent experience visiting the outdoor exhibits. Family friendly. During COVID, try to reserve your entry time online in advance. Save some money parking in their structure, then have the first two hours validated as you leave the aquarium. Purchasing the nectar before you enter the enclosed bird exhibit is worth it, just be aware the birds might startle you (or small children) immediately upon entering the exhibit!
The main building is closed due to covid, but the outside is open and the prices are reduced. We loved feeding the birds and seeing the seals and petting pools. It was great for the little kids. Souvenir prices were reasonable and we enjoyed the snacks. It was a fantastic way to spend an hour or two with the kids. Highly recommended for things you can still do with the restrictions.
Even though we could only do the outside exhibits, it was amazing. The kids loved it more than the whole LA zoo! We fed the birds twice, got to touch the rays, sharks, and moon jellies. It was a quick visit, less than two hours but totally worth it.
Super amazing! Only outside exhibits were open at this time. Touch tanks for sharks, different types of stingrays, and jelly fishes. And nectar for sale to feed the birds.
Me and my friend had an absolutely amazing time but they did a really good job during the quarantine everything was very clean..... animals looks very happy and well taken care of...Thank you to the sweet and informative associates.
Pretty sweet spot took the kids here and it was amazing my son loved it! Book your ticket online ahead of time is best scan as you go in and smooth sailing. If you are wearing a long sleeve shirt roll it up before you go play with the birds cause they might poop on your shirt luckily one pooped and miss my dress shirt. Thank god!
Very fun and exciting. I took my 3 grand children we had a blast with the touch tank. We say the largest sting ray I have ever seen.
Disappointed that it was only open for outside exhibits. I understand, but I wouldnt have paid so much if I had known and I didnt see anything on the website saying that. I thought that the reservation of time slots was so that they could limit the amount of people inside at a time. That is not what it was for. We do plan on going back when it is open inside though.
Be aware, its only partially open because of covid-19. Kids still had a good time though...
Cool place to check out. They only have the outside open for covid19 times. Gift shop has nice books for my niece. Trying to get her into sharks they still have the jelly tanks the seals the penguins, sharks, touch tank for rays and nocturnal sharks. U can touch jelly fish. And they have some other stuff too like feeding their parrots etc.. beware.. I got peed on by 3 different birds when I was feeding them[they were using my arm as a perch] it is what it is they have sinks and hand sanitizing areas all around. Masks required.
We were there during Covid so the indoors was closed to the public, but the outdoor shark tank, shark, ray & jellies petting ponds, penguins, seals & sea lions, and aviary were open. Were spent about 1.5 hours there. Plenty of hand washing stations and sanitizer available. They did a great job making it covid-friendly. $15 reduced entry fees for all (no discounts for kids or seniors). They validate parking passes, too, which saves $8 parking fee.
During these pandemic days, its nice to have somewhere to take the kids. Access to the aquarium is somewhat limited (no access to inside the building), but its something. The effort by staff to disinfect and keep the place safe is definitely appreciated.
As aquariums go, this is a good one, not the best but not too shabby at all. Lots of animals to see and touch, which is always a plus. Lots to learn which is always a big plus. My only issue with it has to do with the fact that it can get so busy and so full of kids be it during the school year or in the summer with camps, and I know that’s true of many of these type of places but it does take a bit of the joy. But don’t let that stop you from going.
We were only able to see the outdoor aquarium. Very limited, but we made the best of it! Our family had a good time! Didnt stay as long as anticipated due to lack of exhibits/animals, but it was cool!
During Covid-19 the tickets still cost just as much as they used to and now there is barley anything to see. There are 3 exhibits open outside and the entire experience lasted me 5 minutes costing me $20.
Only small outdoor section opened at this time. However kids still had plenty to do, see and touch( jelly fish and stingrays). Great job with social distancing and sanitation. Had a great time and cant wait to visit again when pandemic is over to see rest of the place.
The Aquarium during Covid is definitely a whole different experience. They have the inside closed and you go through the park a lot faster. I would recommend to not go in a really hot day or be sure to have a comfortable mask. The employees made our trip much more enjoyable. They taught our daughter all sort of facts to get her to connect with what she was seeing.
COVID has severely limited the amount of activities here, but what you do have is interactive and fun. Touch tanks for moon jellies, sharks, craps, and some very playful and social rays. The harbor seals and sea lions were lively, and the staff were accommodating and friendly. I look forward to seeing them open back up fully.
I went to the Aquarium of the Pacific for the first time on the day they re-opened. I had a great time and would definitely visit again soon! Staff checked our temperature before we entered, we were required to wear masks at all times, as well as adhere to social distancing guidelines. I felt safe and appreciated all of the safety measures put into place. I would highly recommend this exciting and educational activity to people of all ages. There is a fair amount of walking involved, but its really not THAT big. I think that families with children of all ages, couples, groups, and senior citizens would enjoy visiting this aquarium!
My Aquarium of the Pacific fav place to go..I love that I can still take my children here. Great price to get in fun times and so much to look at. Even rides to go on. $8.00 to get in, you can beat that. It has been such a very long time since I went but I wasnt disappointed at all. Events thought out the year so check the website often. Fun for all ages and $2 will get you a storybook key to use thought out the park.
The inside part of the aquarium is still closed, but theyre outside displays are phenomenal! They have places for you to touch jellyfish, rays and crabs. They have very nice outside viewing displays.
Only the outdoor exhibits were open but it was perfect for the kids. We enjoyed the outdoor time.
Right now the outside parts are open. Enjoy the birds and the sea lions. There’s penguins and bay rays you can touch.
It was a very nice outing for small children. I took three girls 9, 10, and 11 years old. They all had a blast despite everything being outside. Theres multiple exhibits where you can touch the animals. We spent the most time at the sting rays. No need to pack food either, they have a pretty decent menu!!
Aquarium of the Pacific has a live feed on one of their tanks, and it is phenomenal! We use this live feed at the medical office where I work. Our patients and employees love it for its entertainment and calming influence. And a big THANK YOU to the divers that take a moment to smile and wave to the camera on their way past! Its a small moment, but it so livens up our day!
The aquarium is always a great place to bring kids. So many things to see and do. The touch pools are so much fun! I love the penguins! And they have seals, sea otters, and sea lions. So much fun! We had a great visit after the reopening. Theyre doing a great job of encouraging social distancing, and masks are required. Great experience!
Loved it. Only the outdoor is open but its still a magical place to visit. The whole crew literally carry around notebooks with facts about all the little creatures. Sanatizing stations evwrywhereNot to overly crowded. But maybe a light sweater cuz its getting chilly in the evening
We purchased our tickets ahead of time. You need to choose a time to visit when you buy the tickets now. Only the outdoor exhibits were open so sea lions, sharks, seals, penguins. They also had a chance to pet jelly fish before we left.
I am SO impressed by the virtual field trip by James and his team at the Aquarium of the Pacific! My hybrid-learning first grade class did the Sharkys Adventure experience! It was easy to log on using Zoom for the students at school and home. It was incredibility engaging and interactive. As the teacher, I appreciated the online learning resources to help me pre-teach some of the content! Thank you!! And I look forward to another virtual trip here next year (wed go in person, but our school is located in San Francisco!) I would highly recommend!
Great place to take the kids! I took my 15yr old recently and he actually enjoyed himself. The touch tanks include: sharks, horseshoe crabs, stingrays and jelly fish
A wonderful way to spend a day! Even though only the outside exhibits were open, it was still entertaining. Thank you for also lowering your prices to reflect the decrease of exhibits. I wish other attractions would do that! The Staff was friendly and informative and with a little extra for a whale watching tour, it made for a great day!
This place is a really amazing and special experience. I love big aquariums but this feels so personal, the staff is so warm and informative and really help make the absolute most of such an interactive experience.Amy, who was overseeing the jellyfish pools was so kindhearted and fun, I learned more from her alone than any other aquarium I have been to.
Worth every penny. They are constantly renovating, adding new exhibits, and putting a lot of care into these maintenance and health of the animals. Staff was friendly and enthusiastically answered all of my questions. The new exhibit on evolution of amphibians is very cool, lots of terrariums. Petting the bat rays is another favorite because of their puppy-like excitement as they race around the pool looking for friendly hands. Outdoor exhibits with birds and seals are very interactive as well, with inset windows you can crawl in to make you feel like youre in the tank!
Only the outside exhibits were open but the kids still had a good time. Discounted tickets were good but you had to purchase ahead of time ... the people who worked there were 50/50 some were great and full of information others acted like they hated their jobs... Id go back but once its fully open.
Ill admit it was my mistake for not checking the website first, as it does mention that only outdoor exhibits are available. Had I known this I would not have driven over an hour to come. Luckily, they only charged half the ticket price to go in. The other downside was that we had to buy our tickets online in advance, not doing so resulted in us waiting another hour an a half just to buy a ticket. They give you a reserve ticket holding your spot to buy a ticket. The whole thing was disappointing and my relatives were quite disappointed as they drove even further than us to meet us there. I dont recommend going until the place is completely open as Ive heard very good things about it and the indoor pictures seem really nice.
Ive been a an Aquarium member for the past 5 years. My son is now 17 now and guess he grew out of it. I still enjoy it. I truly hope others will continue enjoying it in the upcoming years
Great place for the little ones to learn about aquatic life, because of Covid-19 they dont have the all the indoor exhibits open so if thats what your looking forward too you may be disappointed. Otherwise still a good time for the family.
Great fun aquarium, lots of touch pools. Things we would’ve never thought we could touch. Was really fun. Lots of interactive shows/info. Buy tickets online, much cheaper. Or do the combo with whale watching and it is much much cheaper. $45 if bought separately but $55 if bought online together for aquarium entrance and whale watching. Both were great experiences. Highly recommend.
It is a smallish aquarium - but were used to the one at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore which is one of the best in the country (so I am told). Its very entertaining, and you can enjoy everything and be in and out in a couple hours. A great tourist attraction. Kids loved the touch tank - maybe their favorite thing this whole vacation.
My kids and I favorite spot to go to. Equal to the San Diego Zoo. The staff is super friendly and even the gift shops are nice. Parking is surprisingly easy. No complaints. Just a wonderful experience. You can do a nice walk through within two hours.
The aquarium itself is great. Because of Covid only the outside area was open limiting the experience. They reduced the price to compensate and for $15 you got your moneys worth. It is what you make of it so you have to consider if its worth it for you. Its a good way to spend time with children. Unfortunately the surrounding area, including the entrance park area, was overrun with loud, obnoxious groups of teens. Foul language and rude behavior by unsupervised teenagers pretty much ruined the day. Also the excessive amount of rental scooters and skateboards made what could have been a pleasant strolling area loud and haphazard. When the aquarium fully opens and you can spend most of your time inside its worth the drive. Unfortunately the surrounding neighborhood has gone downhill.
Its the outdoor areas open only on 9/12/20 the touch pools were open and we were able to feed the lorikeets and jellyfish. It wasnt too crowded and they had hand washing stations and hand sanitizer everywhere. I cant wait until its completely reopened.
One of my favorite things to do is travel and see aquariums. By far Id have to say this aquarium is a little small but defiantly a great attraction located at pier 39. Its a great place for small kids that would like to see the deep ocean and even get some hands on experience with the animals in the touch pool.
Wow, we had a wonderful time. The weather was beautiful, the staff was working hard to sanitize and clean all around and making sure guests were following guidelines. Thank you to all of you that were cleaning, I really appreciate your hard work. A special THANK YOU to Ms. Connie! She was working in the Molina Health Care area and she shared a great deal about the horseshoe crab, the sand shark along with information about the surgeries and check ups the marine life receive at the Aquarium of the Pacific. She was excited about all the information she was sharing which caused the kiddos and myself to be excited to learn the details she shared. If I could of hugged her I would. I also want to thank Ms. janice in the outside gift shop for her kindness in helping us with our purchase. I also want to thank the hispanic lady that was the cashier for the inside gift shop she was very helpful and answered the questions I had.
We love the Aquarium of the Pacific so much we became members. Lorakeets are my kids favorite and we love the seals and penguins.
Always a good time here! Staff was so sweet when my daughter fell & skinned her knee. A nice first aid lady came & cleaned her knee & put a bandaid on it. Thanks again! Will go back very soon :)
Honestly this is a beautiful view. However this is more for young children, I recommend it for smaller children. Its a quick aquarium with a lot of little cute creatures. Highly recommend.
The boat ride was nice, i liked how there were scooters, the staff is kind, and seeing the animals were fascinating
Took my 4yr old great niece here for her birthday she had a great time. All of the exhibits were outside plenty places to wash your hand.
We didnt realize that all the indoor exhibits were closed but still had a great time! Our 2 year olds loved touching the rays, sharks and jellyfish. We will wait to go back until the inside areas are open as well.
Large aquarium with large pools with beluga whales, penguins, dolphins, and otters. They also have over 100 other smaller pools/ exhibits. A few things I didnt like: there is no clear path to follow to see everything and super crowded. In places, they have arrows in the floor but not everywhere. When we were ready to leave, we didnt want to take the stairs in front. We were sent to go out the back towards the mantaray petting area. That meant we had to walk a lot to get there. Petting stations were great for kids! Over all not a bad experience
Great place for a weekend getaway with the family. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby and a spectacular pier with arcades and activities for the kids. Parking has been available during all of our visits and weve even taken a stroll to the local theater about 3-4 blocks away. Loads of fun in a great location.
This place was definitely lots of fun. Packed but everything in LA is... Staff was very friendly and helpful. You can touch sting rays, little sharks, jellyfish, and starfish. There was a long line for the starfish tank. There is a bird place that you have to wait in line for and pay to get into. That was weird. They had a 3D globe screen in one of their screening rooms that showed a mini documentary called resilient cities which is really the most positive way to spin that the world is overpopulated and we are destroying our health and our ecosystem for the sake of building buildings and fancy infrastructure (killing wildlife and ending authentic human connection)... Even after natural disasters happen we somehow insist on spending trillions of dollars (and our wellbeing) on rebuilding... Even my husband said it was depressing. Not sure what the takeaway of that was. But whatever. Overall the aquarium was fun and informative.
Only the outside exhibits are opened. You can see the sea lions, sharks, rays and jellyfish. The parakeet exhibit is opened. Purchase a $4 cup of food, go inside the exhibit and the birds fly to your arm to eat! Its definitely a must!! They might poo on you so if youre queazy, youve been warned.
Warm sunny days, a magnificent 360-degree-view, the best relaxation place for the whole family! Take a long walk around the aquarium, I am sure you will enjoy it!
Very interesting! Learned a lot and had great selection to watch! However, social distancing policies need to be stepped up. The signs are a start but the employees need to be reminding people to stay apart. I literally almost kicked someone in the face who was standing RIGHT behind me. There are stars on the floor in some places so you know to stay apart but there are no signs to let you know that there ARE stard on the floor. Not bad. Needs work.
Went here for an SF Weekly event/party. Was lots of fun. Granted, it wasnt the typical Aquarium of the Bay experience. The aquarium is a bit small. But it was fun getting to touch the fish and walking around with a drink in my hand!
Bought tickets for the aquarium and the whale watching trip. It took about 15 minutes to go through the outside exhibits. Not too exciting. The whale watching trip was about 2.5 hours . Again not too exciting. Saw nothing out there. Just the seals we stopped to look at. Never had been on a boat out at sea so it was a new experience. Would I go again? Not likely unless the prices were lower.. paid over $100 for 2 people and the day was not worth it .
This place was amazing we had a great time the out side is the only thing open but we had a blast
Due to current circumstances, only the outdoor areas are openWe visited on a very hot day which took some of the enjoyment away but as a huge fan of the aquarium, I couldnt help but miss the total experience. I will go back after its fully open again.
As of right now its not really worth it! I took my toddler yesterday at 6pm. We thought it was going to be bright enough to see the animals, but no it was dark. They didnt put more lights. The inside is close.
My family was looking for an unique outing experience with a few hours to spare. We have been talking about visiting another aquarium down south, but we didnt have a bunch of time to make the expense worthwhile... so we looked for an alternative and found Pier 39. What a great gem hidden in plain sight.
This a place for children and their parents to explore sea lives and learn about them. The movie shows and theatre are quite educational. You can also go whale watching which is arranged by the aquarium itself. You can also go to sightseeing and shop in the nearby pike outlet. Its a beautiful place for fun with family.Have fun
This place is great. My family loves coming here to touch, see and learn about marine animals. Also the lorikets and the moon jellyfish are awesome. After hours we paid like $20 a person and they have added a lot of new exhibits. At this time there was not very many people. You can also buy tours of the bay combo tickets
We love this place for family outings. In the times of covid, it seems people were not being very respectful of others peoples spaces despite frequent reminders by the aquarium through overhead announcements. These are the new norms. If you can’t abide by the rules of the facility or don’t agree with them, then stay home and don’t ruin it for the rest of us.
Even with covid 19 requirements, this place is still cool for the kids.
What a great place! First time with my kids and we just couldnt get enough. Petting the stingrays was probably my favorite part. My kids liked making whale sounds. There really is so much to do. And great food options all around. Fun for the whole family.
During Quarantine the inside is closed FYI bummer but understandable they have a small exhibit outside only open it’s pretty cool still. Your allowed to use two fingers touch jelly fish, sharks (small) and other fishes. It’s small however maybe a 10 minute walk through.
Beautiful place to visit. Great walking trails. Very pretty to walk along the river and pass by the pond. Kids will love the play ground.
Me and my family appreciate the effort, we really do. But what they currently have setup, to deal with the pandemic, isnt even a fraction of what it was. Max i counted about 7 attractions, outside strictly. I cant wait to go back when they reopen the inside again...its sad honestly.
Amazing place, been there a half dozen times. Friendly staff, clean facility, wonderful aquariums and displays. The food and gift shop are reasonably priced.
For full price they show a handful of exhibits all outdoors. Wasnt a bad experience but a bit pricey for the lack of content. In and out within 30 minutes. Hoping to experience it when fully opened.
Very nice place to spend some good time. The interactive activities are a great thing! We’ve enjoyed it even if there were lots of people, because of free day of Presidents day. Highly recommend!
Awesome aquarium. I would say that its probably one of the better ones Ive been to since their are two levels and the exhibits are pretty massive. A lot of interactive pools with live animals and attendants not to mention even someone answering questions when you ride the elevators.
Very fun! Got a chance to get out of the house, and learn a little. We had to wait to get in but Nancy helped us out and was very nice!
We had THE BEST time even though we were limited to the outdoor exhibits. Feed the birds!! Trust me, so much fun!
My grandkids love it all the time not much to see this time but they enjoy it anyways
Well it is what it is.....Great place ...as always...right now with more restrictions ....you know..but good place..for a couple hrs....no much crowded
Great place to go with family even though its outside it was an amazing experience for me and my daughter love this place
Although the inside areas are all closed, there are still some fun activities to do with the family. The petting pools and fedding the birds and jellyfish are still open. Social distancing and masks are being enforced. However some of the visitors do not follow the 6 feet rule.
Ive been here during the pandemic so I cant give a full review. The only area to view was the outside and it was very entertaining, youll probably get bored of it after an hour and a half.
Had a wonderful time at the aquarium today. Went with the Mrs, grandma, our newborn and her one year old cousin. Everyone had a good time. Only reason for 4 stars is because, and its due to Covid Im sure, but every inside exhibit/attraction was closed off. Cut the experience way shorter than normal and feel like we missed a good few things. Otherwise, a fun way to spend half of a day. Just dont expect more than 3 ish hours depending on ages and party size. Tickets were $17 each for 3 people, three adults and the children are free under 3 years old. Parking is $8 with validation. Hope my review helps!
Lots of space, if youre worried about distancing, only 2 or 3 spots where there was a line. The Lorikeets will land right on you, if you remember to buy a cup of nectar on your way in. Still lots of animals, even with the indoor exhibits closed
Excellent aquarium that is large enough for the big crowds that are inevitable on the weekends. The exhibits are well done and the facility spreads out the fun things so people can enjoy them. The sharks are not overwhelmingly impressive, but the variety and expansiveness of the faculty now than make up for it. The food, however, is disappointing.
All indoor exhibits are currently closed due to COVID, but at a discounted price the trip was well worth it! Animals are well cared for and staff is super friendly and informative, as well as consistent in enforcing social distancing guidelines. Was a great birthday trip. ♡
