From October- December, its probably one of the best place to view Sandhills Cranes came back in Sunsets or Sunrise. Dont forget to bring your mosquitoes spray can.
Dress warmly: bring telescopes, cameras, binoculars, etc, prepare to settle to watch at dusk when bird return from the fields.
Amazing spot during the day as long as ur okay with the glaring eyes of Karens taking pictures of birds for hours on end. Even better fun time spot at night under the stars
This preserve is a gem. What a slice of used to be the central valley. I recommend spending a few calm hours just observing the sights and sounds. Travel up to the end of the road as well. Bring along binoculars, camera, and a scope. Sunsets, sunrises, and moonrise are just gorgeous on the right dates.
The birds are so fantastic to see in this place
Perfect bird watching spot.
Its best visited early in the morning or late afternoon. Bring the bug spray and binoculars. Always nice to visit but during late fall and early winter the sandhill cranes are there. That alone is a reason to go.
Never seen some of the birds anywhere before. Wow!A real hidden gem. In the Fall, as the sun is setting, is the best for overall beauty by the lake.
Although close to the freeway, the reserve land has no way of capturing the freeway noise. This is such a wonderful place to turn off your engine to sit and listen. With the birds migrating at this time, you can tell by their calls weather its the honk of geese or rattle of cranes. Plenty to see.
My Dad and I are both birders, in fact I learned to appreciate birds through him while growing up in east Africa. So, while Dad was visiting, we found time to venture to the Woodbridge Ecological Reserve to view the Sandhill Cranes coming in for the evening. Although the North Site viewing area had no birds, the South Area looked promising. When dusk was just beginning we heard the cranes flying in, a beautiful sound! However, we realized the cranes were landing in an area further south. Once we moved down the road, we saw many cranes. Checking the South Area viewing site on the return, we saw about 5 cranes had eventually landed there. I hope our presence wasnt too disturbing to the cranes.
My family and I had a wonderful time watching the cranes. The volunteers are very informative, helpful, friendly and funny. Best of all it is free!
Great Place to watch the beautiful Sandhill Crane during migrate time. The best time to watch is early in the morning before the birds left for feeding somewhere else.
This wetland preserve is one of the premier places to spot pelicans, curlews, kingfishers, herons, sandhill cranes and other birds.
Dont take the tour drive up your self.the tour guide left the engine on to the bus so that none of the birds came near us there was no noise or no action the entire time that the tour guide the institution that puts on the tours is not diligent they are not knowledgeable and they are not kind to not take the tour its not worth it. real birders are astonished at the lack of knowledge that the tour guides had that drove out with us and it was a very expensive
Great place for birds especially sandhill cranes wintering.
Will be coming back soon! Too much beauty for only one day!
Its a perfect place to watch the birds of many kinds.
Breathtaking... Bring binoculars & your telephoto lens.
Lovely place, dont forget sunscreen
Wonderful nature walk for adults & kids
The birds came in ride at dark beautiful
Lots of activity definitely coming back
Awesome area for bird watching!!!!! Especially cranes
Magical just before sunset
We arrived just as the first major flight of Sandhill Cranes came in. Hundreds wheeling and gliding in the 20 knot Delta breeze, some even flying in place against the wind.We heard the characteristic Sandhill squawk from all directions. Kept looking till a magnificent orange and purple sunset ended the show.Be sure to read up on the web to find when staff are on hand to guide and explain.
Awesome to see the sandhill cranes coming in for the night. What a commotion. Many thanks to the docents who gave us some good background on the cranes, led us to the viewing location and provided warm beverages and cookies!
What a treat. Even though the Storks arent close enough to really see them, you can hear them, see them overhead flying in formation, landing gear deployed as they splash down into the marshy water. BTW, Scolex Man is living in the Porto-let
Good area to take pics, be sure to drive down the road, lots of birds to see
Incredible spot for bird watching. Sandhill cranes are the big attraction but they dont show up until sunset or even after sunset.
Great place to visit. The Sandhill Cranes come in late November. They are quite as sight.
We enjoyed watching and listening to the Sandhill Cranes. The volunteers were knowledgeable and kind. However, the people there to observe talked non stop. Maybe quietly, but continually. Greatly detracted from the experience. We were there to hear the calls of the cranes not listen to chatter. If there are any silent observation times wed love to return.
We attended an evening tour and the volunteers were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We saw many other species and stayed in the blind until dark. The birds are magnificent. Highly recommend the visit.
Make sure you bring binoculars if you are not doing the tour. The birds are quite far away but still beautiful and amazing at Sunset.
Went there to take pictures of the Sandhill cranes that come in during this time of year. Good spot!
We Will Be Back
Great facility and excellent birding destination. Easy for family with small children, well maintained walkway and observation deck.
A fabulous experience! The migration and related activities are incredible!
I had an awesome time watching the sandhill cranes fly in for the evening.
Work waiting for dusk. Many waterbirds and cranes, especially as darkness falls.
Amazing place to watch the Sandhill cranes, with the added bonus of potentially spectacular sunsets.
One of the best birding destinations in Delta! Amazing!
Be sure to try up the road if you dont see what youre looking for at the main preserve overlook
Fun and the dolsons were fantastic
Not much in the way of facilities, but the wildlife is amazing.
Cool place to visit for geocaching
Great nature getaway.
Amazing
Clean and cared for!

Roadside view of birds in farm fields. Dissapointed to see people leaving trash at this location.
Go at sunset, pass required.
