Always a pleasure to drive thru. Love to see the windmills. Traffic has improved immensely since they reconstructed it a few years back. Cant say I have hit a real heavy traffic scene.

As far as passes go, this is one of my favorites. It has become quite popular over the past few decades and can draw quite the crowd during rush hour. It has come a long way since the Rolling Stones concert put it on the map.

The only reason why I gave it five stars just because I was reminiscing from 25 years ago on my way to San Francisco to see my sister and then back into northern Nevada. there was no traffic the entire way going north west through California but the people coming Southeast were hating life like Ive never seen it in my foreverness. No construction no accidents just Gods creation of mankind all going in one directions to what seems like one special place in the valley because obviously there isnt enough room for all those Meatheads in the Bay area. PS 30 years in northern California and 25 years southern Nevada yes I prefer the two years in northern Nevada. I plan to finish up my last chapter in my life in Carson City...

Drive over daily its a blast. Traffic is great surely to only get better with time, crashes never disappoint they make sure u have plenty of time to see all the sites.

Ive been commuting from Manteca to Livermore for almost 15 years and this is one of the four paths I take. When its flowing this is the fastest way. You need to watch for potholes, there has been some major problems but they seems to be getting fixed. When its stopped up, you also have Altamont Pass Road (some call it old Altamont), Patterson Pass or even Corral Hollow/Tesla as options. Occasionally I ride a motorcycle to work and some of the paving work being done can be a real challenge to deal with.

Its the gate way to south bay area and right out of tracy ca. Construction going on. If you are traveling to bay area for work. Omg between 4am to 9am. Its all 5 lanes. Gridlock. Not going anywere.heads up

What a turn around this drive is. I would fear driving this route but caltrans has really done a good job of repaving the roads.

Pretty looking mountainous area. Freeway runs through. Windmills.

Horrible traffic but some great driving IF you have a two seater. Take the back roads and slam on the gas. You cant lose.

I love the Altamont but watch your engine temperature during the summer if youre in an older car.

Slow way home, but at least there is something to look at while you are sitting in the 580 parking lot

Much better now the road has been smoothed. Before you could not get along the pass without having multiple windscreen cracks from flying rocks but now this has stopped.

Good place to take a little rest when youre tired to driving

Lots of wind turbines, but they clutter what would otherwise be a picturesque view.

Hope in the future the add some restrooms on the check breaks area.

Im not sure why Im reviewing a pass, but...well, the traffic here is perpetually awful, so theres not a lot to say thats good about this place after being stuck in this place for 45 minutes. The plus side is the windmills are interesting to look at the first 5 minutes and the place is reasonably pretty.

Worse freeway. Always under construction. Always traffic. Why isnt there a gas station in the middle?

Its a brake check for big rigs but when in doubt and youre tired and you need some place to pull over for a couple wings go there for me driving truck clean quiet except for the freeway and California Highway Patrol are always nearby on the west side of the pass is a scale for big rigs and bobtails but no pickup trucks or cars on the bottom and the east side is winding road that will take you to the off ramp to go to Los Angeles and those areas down that way and Ill take you some Tracy and onward to Highway 5

The only reason Google thinks I visited here is that I was stuck in traffic for so long at 6 A.M. eastbound on a Saturday. Cant believe WAZE sent me into that. Note to self: check the traffic map even at 6 A.M. :)

The Altamont pass is hell . Been commuting over this pass for 28 years. A very dangerous and heavily traveled road. All California politicians should be made to commute over this road for 30 days. Maybe they will finally widen, fix and add an alternative route to 580. Its hell
