The docents are VERY knowledgeable. Would highly encourage a guided tour. Theres stuff for the whole family. Say hello to Miss Sarah in the childrens part. If you need genealogical help, give Miss Anna a shout. And if possible, make a small donation. Every little bit helps.

We had this as part of the train ride from Springfield to Lima, and it was my favorite part. The John Dillinger exhibit was great as was the paleo indigenous exhibits. This is a tour that should be taken as its own as it is very educational and has a lot of Ohio history in one building. Dont miss the giant Shay locomotive in the basement (huge)!

Loved it. I couldnt find the actual history. Im a big before and after picture fan. There was electric car and train history, loads of old cars, buildings made from wood. But I just wanted to read and see what lima looked like before vs. now. Maybe I missed it. Either way good time.

I love this place. From the christmas tree festival in December to the garden and butterflies in Summer. If your in Lima and need a place to go on a rainy day this place has lots of interesting things to look at. My favorite display is the gems and minerals display that has glowing stones. My son loves the mini train display. The museum runs on donations so help out if you do happen to make it there.

Visited this Museum last weekend because we wanted to see the John Dillinger exhibit. we ended up staying much longer because there was so much to see. we had no idea. there are many antique cars, a steam train, military artifacts, taxidermy animals, a quilt exhibit, old furniture, model houses including one of Washingtons Mount Vernon. we were very impressed. they dont even ask for money for admission, but we donated money anyway.

I was genuinely impressed. My girlfriend and I went in on a whim because we were in town for a wedding and it was amazing. Before we even got in we saw the old house on the property and the well-done childrens garden. We walked in and realized the museum is free ($5 suggested donation). There is an area specifically designed for kids, but the rest of the museum is interesting enough the kids would enjoy it all. It really is a museum for all ages. There is an full sized train engine, military transport, carriage, and an iron lung you can stick your hands in. They have a full rock and mineral collection as well as a replica of a general store that you can walk through. They have old knives and swords and pistols and a model of George Washingtons estate - Mt. Vernon. There is a cutting from what was once the largest apple tree in the US and some history on Johnny Appleseed who spend some time in the area. They also have models of some of the historical Lima houses. In general we had a great time walking around. It is not too big, but its way bigger than we thought it would be.

A wonderful museum, lots of artifacts. This museum is worth another look. It has enough items to spend days on end walking around and still not seeing every thing. And don’t worry that the kids will be bored, there’s an enchanting children’s Garden outdoors. As well as a large area for children’s activities, including a recreation of a civil war era school and store. The kids can even grind real coffee beans. There’s antique toys their actually allowed to play with. Make sure you don’t miss the train displays and the amazing collection of things people have swallowed and had to have removed. It’s quite amazing. Have fun but make sure you check ahead for the hours of operation they are sadly a bit limited. Also visit the McDonald house next door, it’s also quite interesting. Enjoy these Limaland treasures.

With a suggested donation of $5 this place is well worth the money and time spent there. I had my 8 and 5 year-old girls with me once afternoon this summer we were surprised when we heard them announce the museum would be closing in 15 minutes. We had been there since 1ish. That never became bored and needed to be sure that saw every inch of the museum. We actually had to rush through some areas. A real treasure for this area. Volunteers are knowledgeable and seem to love being there. Thank you for staffing this museum!

This is the Allen County Museums 110 th year in existence and it is the only AMA accredited county museum in Ohio and one of only 24 AMA accredited county museums in the United States. They just received their fourth 10 year accreditation last year. They have fantastic collections related to Allen Countys early discovery of oil as they had the worlds largest producing oil field from 1890 until 1900 and they supplied the oil that lighted the 1892 and 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair except for those few exibiters who took a chance on using the new Edison electric lights. Many other exhibits related to the production of the highest quality steam locomotives.
