It is very beautiful, even in the dead of winter, though sometimes you will find some super spiky plants if you go off trail. Go there in the spring so that you dont over heat and you can still see the beauty.
Overall pretty good. Very large camp ground with pretty much No privacy in the camping spaces. They are all very close together. A lot of the tall trees need some major attention as there are A lot of large dead branches. We were allowed camp fires in the fire pit provided. The camp attendants in our area were very nice. And offered bundles of wood for $5 a bundle for those who didnt bring wood.
Absolutely beautiful with cared for lawns and sites spaced nicely! Amenities are wonderful. Biking, hiking and the river walkway splendid. Visitor Center excuses for no film. Tape around exhibits inside. Nice, but not really welcoming.
Very clean park. Friendly staff. The Ranger drove through pretty much every hour, which is something I like to see. Make sure you look at site photos and pick a site that has plenty of shade if going in the summer. A lot of bugs including a plethora of Yellow Jackets. The swimming and picnic area is nice. Lewiston is far enough away to make you feel out of town, yet close enough for resupply if you need it.
We are staying there now. Lots of treed sites, good thing because it will be 104 degrees tomorrow! Our second time here. The Discovery Museum is closed, disappointed. No one in the building wearing masks if that is a concern for you.
One of the best State parks we have camped in. On the Snake River but most camp sites only have a peek of the river. Well spaced well shaded camp sites, many pull through. Only 9 sites have sewer hookups. I stayed 4 days so to be safe I emptied my wastewater into a tote. The RV dump station is over a mile from the campground. That is a long way to drag a tote. Campground is well priced and when we changed our plans they refunded us the unused days. Clean large bathrooms. Their only problems are the sinks only have cold water and the showers are timed for less than a minute. You need to push the button over and over again to get a full shower. You cannot adjust the temperature of the showers but I thought it was a good temperature. There is a lot of activities in the area. We were interested in the boat tour of Hells Canyon but the short tour was $138 / person so we passed on that. We will visit again next year.
I stayed in the Cottonwood Loop. It had shade trees and roomy enough sites. The bathroom facility was kept clean. Very nice. Thanks and enjoy.
We were at site 5 on Aspen Loop close to the river. The sites are nicely laid out. The state park was very close to Lewiston and Clarkston with easy access to the downtown areas. Our camp host was very friendly.
Very pretty park! Good distance between sites. Lots of great walking trails.
This is the cleanest state park Ive ever been to. The RV park area is nice, they water the lawns, the grass is so green to and the beaches are clean. They set a great example.
It was very pleasant sitting by the banks of the Snake River in a well shaded and meticulously tended campground with spacious sites. Our fellow campers were spread out from each other and considerate. We slept very well.
Physically beautiful state park, perfectly set along the east bank of the Snake River. Campground is huge and well maintained. All sites have electric and water service, but not sewer service. Weekends are busy. Best to schedule at stay during the week. While youre there, dont forget to check out the displays at the parks visitor center.
This is a great, clean park. Its surprisingly more......in town than we were expecting, but it was a nice place anyway. The day use areas stay super busy. The park ranger drives the campsite loop about once an hour and quiet times are strictly enforced. They are incredibly particular about where you park. Careful that your tires stay ON the asphalt and dont dare touch even the edge of a blade of grass with your tires. They have their sprinklers in terrible places and are constantly concerned that youre going to break them. (Im assuming because many people have broken them) Still, a lovely stay.
If you get a chance take the boat tour. Kinda pricey but well worth it. A trip you will never forget. And the beach access at the park was beautiful
Spent a week. Our 2nd State Park stop on our trip. It would be nice if they all had the same reservation policy
I went right when the park opened about 8am.There is no gate attendant so you pay in an envelope. The trails are well marked including the ones not to go on.I did part of the endurance trail and it was great. There were a few horseback on the trails so watch out for horse droppings. I was impressed with marked areas for horses to drink water at a brookside area too.The views on the trails were amazing from many areas. There is a little beach area where families were fishing, an archery area, visitor center, a campground area for tents and playgrounds for kids.
How can you call yourself alive if you havent seen this? Truly, Hells Gate State Park brings you one of the most pristine, untouched, contiguous nature preserves in all of the US. You can find many boating companies that will take you up the river. I recommend taking the half-day jet boat tour up the Snake River to the Garden Creek Ranch or to the mouth of the River of No Return. You can spend the night at Garden Creek for a really exotic experience. You can also camp here at the Marina. The whole region is absolutely breathtaking. When visiting Americas deepest canyon - Remember, you have to let yourself go and immerse yourself into the wild. Experience it like you wouldnt experience your self!
Well maintained state park. Very busy.We stayed one night in the tent area. Very disappointed in fellow campers who had no respect and walked through our campsite from the time we got there until we left in the morning as a short cut to the bathroom instead of using the designated path. Also very noisy, lots of cars driving through after dark and you can hear the road across the river. I wouldnt recommend this camp area unless you like being right next to everyone else.
Not our favorate place. Very hot and no real view of the river. Entire area is dry an arid
Its a great place, to swim, camp and to have fun at
Always a wonderful place to camp. Lots of shade trees and the grounds are well kept. Its nice to see the new trees planted.
Nice little cabins for rent would recommend for a quick stop off for the night.
Great campgrounds! Clean, well maintained.
Rented a small shelter for $27 all day it was amazing only problem was there was a million bees and wasps everywhere all over our food and cake
Used the boat ramp and checked out the discovery center to license my boat. Great day
Lovely park...not what I would call a forest setting..mature trees, good grass and table/fire rings are on pebbles. Lot 05 was level. Havent checked out restrooms.
The park was beautiful lots of space per site. Right on the river with a great bike path into town. Perfect for us.
Nice hiking paths. Beautiful park and camping areas.
Stayed two nights first night was great second we had day use people in our camp site in our tent and belongings. We have never encountered any issues with hellsgate in all the years we have been using the camp grounds. Would highly recommend them just make sure you keep your belongs locked up when not at your site.
Family camping. The Rangers were really nice and the hosts kept it really clean
Had a good time, just spend a few hours visiting family at camp ground...
Very open campsites that are well maintained. Downfall is that you hear the freeway especially at night.
Beautiful state park on the snake river. Very green and lush. Nice space between campsites, handful of full hookup sites and most just water and electric. Good cell service.
Its been a great day jet boating the Snake River
Nice park nice people that work there
Hells Gate Trails are located South of Hells Gate State Park. There is a small parking lot along the Tammany Creek Rd. A pit toilet is located in the parking lot with a few portable toilets along the trails. There is a trail for every walker, jogger, trail biker and horse riders. A trail map just up from the parking lot gives you a good layout of potential routes and the expected difficulty.
Had a short 2 night stay at the park...could not have been a better stop for a couple of nights. The park is well maintained, the staff was helpful, friendly and informative. Spent the warm days in the Snake River enjoying the cool refreshing water. Scenic with several miles of hiking trails. Also very affordable when you consider the available facilities. Will definitely be back when were out this way again!
I really liked this park.
Quiet, clean and serene! Great swimming area and camping!
Great park. Fun for camping with the family
Wonderful campground, great walking trails and love to see the wildlife right in your backyard
Nice park and perfect beach for the little ones.
I think we should have visited when grass was greener...or something. Jet boat ride was fun, but to long. Stop at Nature Conservancy ranch for delicious lunch and self picked amazing pear and apple.was fun.
Really nice view, well maintained. The Everest trail and kips shortcut are great!!
Awesome place. All kinds of things to do there in such a beautiful beautiful place. If you like to play Frisbee golf this is one of the places to go.
Well kept and spacious sites.
Beautiful Campground along the Snake River. Steelhead, Bass and Salmon fishing. Large trees for shade. Sites are pull through with pavement. Water and electricity. We didnt even need to level our camper. Wish we could have stayed a couple more days.
Very nice place. You will love it here. Right on the river with lots of trees. Cool breeze too.
Despite working with a skeleton crew and virtually now funding, this park is clean and the trails are well maintained. I love having this place so close to home.
Amazing camp spot great swimming
Stayed in Site# 32, which has power and H2O. Other sites have full hookup and were only $2 more...but they go fast. Fees total was only $78 for 2 nights...Im from Washington so there was a few extra bucks for out of state...but still cheap. Really clean campground with plenty of space. Quite a bit of trees for shade. Free museum onsite with gift shop. Entrance to campground has person posted during the day. Folks on golfcart roaming and cleaning. RV dump on the way out is free. Tons of trails...bring your bike or good walking shoes. Good sized beach on the Snake River. Did not see swimming area but it is a river, so be careful. Will def. go back.
The park was in bloom; green and beautiful. The Lewis and Clark Discovery center was informational. The most disappointing part was the trails. They dont lead anywhere, not much to see that you cant see from the road in your car. Wed like to go again when its warmer to go swimming and have a picnic!
Endurance to Easy Street walking, biking, and horseback riding. Spring, Fall and mild Winter months are good times to enjoy the trails.
Large common areas. Huge shade trees. Fire pits at every campsite.
Nice park,very well maintained.
Oy giving it a 4because I have not stayed there yet. Ask me in a couple of weeks.
Great park by the side of the river. Stayed the the campground which was large and well laid out with lots of trees. The new visitor centre was impressive with loads of information on location and history of the area and the staff so friendly and helpful. Great view of Hells Gate.
Beautiful place for a casual swim
Nice campground along the Snake River with lots of trees and paved level camping spots.
Love it here! We camp here often.
Got here early and even though the site was unoccupied, still had to wait till 2 pm to check in. I could have reserved on line but not in person. ? ? ? Guess they need the extra $10.
Loved walking the much beautiful paths along the river
This is a really nice place. The campground is nice and clean. Please remember that you must pay even if you just want to drive through it to check it out. This is the first place that made me pay just to drive through it to check it out and then leave.
Great place to bring the family
Great 0lace to take the family
Nice clean spot. lots of trees and grass. sites are far apart and quiet. roads and pads are all paved. right on the river and close to town. friendly staff
Great family venue!
Very nice campground. Good facilities, nice play area, lots of room & trails. My only complaint is that its a little too close to town and to the highway. That said, it makes it very easy to go in to town to do whatever shopping or sightseeing is desired.
WONDERFUL family reunion
Amazing, wild, and wonderful.
Spacious sites. Back-in are a bit nicer than the pull-throughs. Nice trees, lots of grass. Very strict about the 2:00 check-in time. Extra $5 charged for the tow car. Clean bathrooms and showers.
If you like to take pictures.. this is a great place to do that. Eagles. Deer. squirrels. Comerans.
We were told the museum would be open on Labor day and we told the gate keeper we wanted to go there. He collected our $5 and the museum was closed. Nice park
Huge yellow jacket nests by the restrooms, near our camp site. Very unpleasant experience with aggressive yellow jackets. Left early to avoid more trouble
It was fun and to be able to watch lots of Children playing together and meeting me friends. The campground was clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We were there last summer to camp, and were going back this year too. Great place! Clean bathrooms and showers. Each camp site had a fire pit, picnic table, and a water faucet in a spacious spot. Nice walking path along the river and a park close by.
What a beautiful campground, right on the historic Snake River... the cabins are great with porches viewing the river, the camp sites were lush and ample, and there are plenty of docks and ramps for river excursions as well as jet boat rides!!!
Its surprisingly beautiful and peaceful at Hells Gate.
We sold our house and planned to live in our Motorhome. The first few days we needed a local place to park. They made an extra effort to get us a good place to park.
A clean park . From the beach to the bathrooms
Beautiful. Loved it.
Great place.. Had a barbeque on the snake river. Nice swimming area for the kids
Very nice campground. Nice treed sites and open spaces. The trail is a nice addition. My only comment is dont check in before 2. We were moving from one loop to another to extend our stay. Ranger rudely told us we had to go back to the office and park our trailer until 2. We had the approval of the person at the gate and the camphost to move to the other loop. If you buy the Idaho state passport, you receive $5 off each night of camping.
Very well kept campground with hook-ups. Lots of green space, friendly staff and neat attractions in the park.
Great place all year round. I remember as a child we did a feild trip here about the local animals and geology.
Very nice park! Clean, quiet and the staff was very nice and helpful! Id stay here again and again! A very reasonable price for beautiful views and a relaxing fun time!
Great campground. Relaxing and enjoyable. Close to town so I was not deprived of a latte.
Hells gate state park is a great place to visit for any family, there is activity in and around the park to
We have been camping hear before. We love it. Its close to town and pleanty of shade for our tent. Only draw back is there are lots of people here so book in advance.
Nice quiet, easy on the eyes
Absolutely beautiful! Cant wait to go camping there again. Beach and park is clean
Nice place for a family swim and picnic.
Nice place for camping. We always take a close to home trip here to make sure everything is working on our pop up camper. Fishing wasnt great on the river this trip though. And the price of camping here is waaaaaaaay high.
