It was a bit of an effort to reserve a cabana at the pool but in the end well worth it for our family pool day. The service was great and all involved had a good day!

When I was walking the course I felt like I was in Soviet era Russia. This place is years from getting back to where it once was. I don’t know if they sold it to the felon Fritzel but they need to get the old owners back. I heard they had something like 35 members now. Lol. Also, those apartments they built ruined the skyline for west Lawrence and destroyed the values of hundreds of homes that now have that unsightly mass out their back window. Who ever caused all of this should be drawn and quartered.

We had a wedding reception earlier in June at the Jayhawk Club. We are incredibly grateful for the experience that we had throughout the whole process. The staff was helpful and flexible during the wedding planning stages, the days leading up to the wedding, and during the reception. The food and drink service was great overall. The venue is beautiful. We worked with Whitney, and she was prompt with her communication and very helpful in answering questions. If you are planning on having a wedding in the Lawrence area, definitely check them out!

Its a nice, elegant setting, but not well-suited for large group events. Our office holiday party was held here, 150-200 people, and it was difficult to have a conversation with the person next to me. The ambient noise from all the conversations was so loud, we spent the entire duration of the party talking loudly and repeating ourselves to be heard. I think a smaller group, with tables father apart would have a better time.

Our party of four enjoyed a great meal in a comfortable environment. The smallest member of our group ordered the special salad which was huge so the rest of us took part of hers. The Doctor ordered the salmon and it was consumed before we could ask him to share. I ordered the best spicy catfish Ive ever eaten and all 3 of us wanted the mac & cheese ordered by our fourth. Service was great too. The food was outstanding.

Although I am not a member of the Jayhawk Club itself, I am a member of the Wellness Center - and have loved it since i first stepped foot inside. The staff is super friendly, and so kind. The Classes are GREAT!!! JAB (boxing), the Spin classes and HIIT classes are my favorite- as a prior college athlete, I love these challenging classes, but they are also great for beginners because the coaches are super attentive and easy to work with. The facility is super clean, and the gym equipment is in EXCELLENT condition. I am super thankful I found this small town gym - I prefer it to the chain gyms any day- it is way more of a family atmosphere. The customer service is amazing too- can’t say enough great things about this Gym!!!!

The Jayhawk Club was fantastic. The planning was perfect! Even though I had some last minute changes (which happens frequently with my group) you did an amazing job at managing those changes and making sure that everything was handled! I knew I didn’t need to worry about a thing. The service from everyone that worked our event was 5-star! You can bet that I will be considering The Jayhawk Club for future events for our group and for our department!

We held our wedding reception at the newly remodeled Jayhawk Club on May 6th and had a wonderful night! Jen and her staff (especially Stephanie) were phenomenal! We had so many compliments on the food, chef did an amazing job! We also used The Jayhawk Club for our rehearsal dinner and chef created a menu for us with the exact theme we were hoping for (it was cinco de mayo). The view is unbelievable and Jen took so much stress off of me by making sure everything was set up and the vendors were there when they were supposed to be. We had a wonderful experience!

I contacted Alvamar and Lawrence Country Club ($220 per month - golf/social/pool/tennis membership) via email in mid-March, inquiring about a possible tour and opportunity to play the courses. Alvamars Ryan Spencer (Director of Golf Membership) was quick to get back to me, Lawrence Country Club never did.Brian Minnis, Director of Operations and one of the owners, met me when I arrived and personally gave me a tour of the facilities and introduced me to the staff. I was very impressed with the facilities and staff, but even more so with the University of Kansas (KU) Affiliate Membership. Normally $240 per month ($2,880 per year) plus a $300 initiation fee, Brian told me that KU Staff and their families get a golf/dining/social membership for just $150 per month ($1,800 per year, a savings of over $1000) with no initiation fee and access to all of the facilities for my wife included ... SOLD!I joined Alvamar on March 13, 2014 and played my first round that day, 10/18ths of a round anyway. As I putted-out on the 10th green of the Members Course, a tight, tree-lined layout that meanders through large custom homes and gently rolling hills, I turned to return to my golf cart ... BUT IT WAS GONE! While just 30 yards away putting, it turned out that three teenagers drove off with my electric cart along with my new iPhone and golf clubs valued at over $1700. I recovered my iPhone, which they tossed from the cart as they drove down the 13th fairway, using Find My iPhone in the Pro Shop. I also found two of my golf clubs in the bushes across the street from the 13th green where witnesses had seen the boys fleeing the scene but everything else was lost.Alvamar staff reacted immediately and superbly, doing everything they could to help me, including wading through knee deep sludge in a drainage ditch and combing the woods for any sign of my possessions. They was absolutely nothing they could have done to prevent this bazaar theft and went above and beyond after, a testament to the commitment to outstanding customer service I have witnessed so far.I have since had a chance to play both courses and have been impressed with the layouts and conditions even though the grass is still dormant. With the exception of a few holes, the courses are both very walkable. The Members Course is much tighter than the Championship (public) Course, a 7,000+ yard test which reminds me of the Robert Trent Jones designed Blue Course at the U.S. Air Force Academy where I was a member while on the faculty from 1988 to 1993.The Alvabar and Grill is a large, well-appointed, cozy environment with wood paneling and numerous TVs for viewing sports while enjoying a post-round beverage. A nice selection of draught beers, including Guinness and local craft beers, daily specials, full menu, and reasonable prices make the Alvabar a great place to windown after a round of golf.Early on in our membership, I culd say that Alvamar Golf and Country Club was a terrific value, providing superior customer service and individualized attention. However, after a year being a member, the food got old, the people were mostly arrogant and distant, and management lacked integrity, so we left.CombatCritic Gives Alvamar Country Club An Initial 4 Out of 10 Bombs ... with room to grow ... BOMBS ARE GOOD!
