Feb 23, 2019.It was free that day and one of our kids birthday. The hands on exhibit was the best that my kids liked. I loved the rocks, minerals and mining history. My husband loved the dinosaurs, wait, cross that. He loved the prehistoric and historic stuff. It was all educational and enjoyable.THE BAD:Cold day, could not do the water fun kid stuff. Too many rampant kids all over (mine).Parents frantically screaming because they lost a kid (Me).

A delightful experience. Very educational, very relaxing, and a wonderful place for both adults and children. My kids love the old western exhibits and the dinosaurs of course. We visit, we explore, and we learn. Name the setting and its a great idea for a visit. Kids can walk around while the parents relax, or a date perhaps! The building is clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are aleays clean ans stocked. Staff is ready to help and very knowledgeable. Sometimes we forget we need this time to ourselves and this is a great place to visit to have that time.

Well maintained historical exhibits. Its a smaller museum by museum standards and missing the interactivity.I have many suggestions and adding a science and space exhibit with a star theater would definitely increase popularity. With so much history, fossils, and so many people in Nevada and Las Vegas itself, I felt it should have been much more.... more.

I had amazing experience today, I learned a lot of history about Las Vegas, the casino industry the effect of people who tried to cheat the casinos, the transitions the casinos made to counter the crooks, I learned how Nevada and Las Vegas was established. Theres pictures from all eras of vegas from pre casino era till now, how major players have invested and kept vegas alive. They also have a live butterfly exhibit, a large area dedicated to plants and scents and how they create colognes and perfumes from plants.

I enjoyed looking into a little bit of Nevada history, notably, I came to know of Howard Hughes, who was an interesting contributor to Nevada, Las Vegas in particular; he seems to be a real life Gatsby and I am always struck by how fate twists and plays with human destiny. Another section was devoted to the show girls costumes, very fascinating. The rock formations, the mining madness, the desert: enjoyed seeing bits of how these have shaped the state. Every tour operator, guide or lyft driver I met has such a sense of pride in their state and the museum sort of explains why.

Smaller museum with well maintained, interesting exhibits for all age groups; dinosaurs, local flora/fauna, history of Las Vegas and Nevada. Tweens and teens got a kick out of using an old phone booth, typewriter, and trying to write in cursive on chalkboards (who knew?) in the interactive display. If youre military theres a discount. If you have time you can also walk around the Springs Preserve.

This is actually several museums in one spot. The Nevada State Museum is a natural history museum that does an excellent job presenting the history of the area through the prehistoric eras, the Native Americans that lived here to modern Las Vegas. There is a natural flow through the interesting displays, my only complaint is some of the signage is small print and poorly lit making it difficult to read. There is also the Origen Museum that provides information on the freshwater springs that attracted the original settlers. Interactive displays and several short documentary movies make a fascinating narrative. Many of the displays are outside so dress appropriately. There are also changing activities for kids, best to check the website for current information. There is a cafe on site that has sandwiches, pizza and salads. The serve a limited selection of beer and wine. The staff throughout the facility is friendly, helpful and eager to share information. Visit and learn something new!

Nevada State Museum sits inside the Spring Preserves. It has some very cool exhibits including some of Nevadas now extinct wildlife. It also has many historical artifacts that give you a look at what was going on here before it became a gaming giant. The museum is well organized and very colorful with its displays. I had a good time and learned some stuff too.

Ive Found My Folies Bergère Wedding Dress (and its gorgeous) You too can find your perfect Love Vegas dress in the Nevada State Museum (I didnt say you could wear it).The museum acquired stage costume like sexy jewel-encrusted thongs and cutesy feathered headpieces for one of its changing exhibits, Entertaining Las Vegas One Rhinestone at a Time. And if you are really, really nice to the staff, they may let you into the over 8,000-piece Costume & Textile Collection. How can you not fall in love with these beautiful Jerry Jackson creations, like my wedding dress, um, okay, its actually Mademoiselle de Paris 1983. Not that Id wear it.To ensure they fit into the custom costumes costing thousands, showgirls (the ones prancing) and nude or dressed dancers (the ones dancing) had to record their weight when they signed their contract. Sorry, but deal breaker! Worse, those who strayed too far from the original number received warning slips. Double deal breaker!Although I could get used to the idea of men blending into the set to support the showgirls, symbols of ideal feminine beauty and a cultural archetype (whatever that means). Double winner. They embody that which women admire and aspire to and men yearn for. Now thats a triple winner

The thing is, they talk it up so grand in the media, but when you get there not really all that great. This is supposed to be a state museum and although Dinosaurs were a part of Nevada, they should not be the main attraction. One whole side of the museum was closed off. So really all I got to look at was fossils and stuffed animals. There was a very small section on the Hoover Dam, and some displays about early gaming. But honestly, not worth the time. I can say with certainty I will not be going back. As a local, I think they can do much better.

Hoo boy, what a mess.I really wanted to like this place, but it was so mediocre. It was very expensive for an out of state visitor for what you receive. Many features were out dated, broken, or simply missing. For example there is a wall garden display with no plants in it. Lame. Technology and electronic items are geared mostly towards younger kids and they would have been amazing in the 1990s but not very impressive in 2019.My biggest gripe is how contrived the place is. Its hard to find your way around and easy to get lost. Poor signage and maps. Many closed off areas and areas that you cannot find the way to.We got lost at one point in a building and couldnt find the exit. We finally saw a metal door with an exit sign on it. When we went out we got locked out in a staff only area near a loading dock. We had no clue what to do and wandered around the staff area for awhile before finding a way back to the guest areas. It was overall disappointing and somewhat boring. I would not return. I much more enjoyed my visit to the Clark County Wetlands park, and cannot recommend that place enough instead of this.

There was a free day at Springs Preserve, which is where the museum is located. The exhibits were great. There are a lot of natural history and Nevada specific displays. Whomever curates the museum is doing a great job. But, if you value your own sanity and peace of mind DO NOT GO ON AN ADMISSION FREE DAY. There is a lot to see, both inside and outside, but with forty three thousand children jumping around, screaming, hollaring, pushing, and crying any sane person will be driven out of their bloody mind.
