Young Park is a lovely place to relax but not to fish. The pond is in bad shape and poorly maintained. The water is filled with so much moss it is impossible to keep any bait on the hook. There was only one airater working with two broken and the water fall was not running either. For that size pond all three airaters need to be running full time to reoxygenate the water. Otherwise what fish are in there will die.I was there for four hours and not one bit only moss. I didnt see anyone catch anything. No one came around to check licenses and I was told by several people they fish at night. According to what I remember that is illegal.

Parks and Recreation needs to get out there and work with the Aerator, lower the salinity and get rid of the Golden Algae that is right there. Its what killed all the fish at Ascarate Lake in El Paso.

Well maintained park. The restrooms are a little sketchy - some of the equipment is a on the well worn side but its all functioning and safe. Very well appointed amenities and the park has a lovely pond. It is a great place to walk my Service Dog in Training because the other dog walkers there obey the New Mexico law which requires all dogs to be leashed. There are picnic tables, some with Sun awnings overhead, a playground, several park benches and the restrooms are well maintained and always clean.I absolutely love Young Park!

Pu
Review №53

This is a decent park, basically the best we have here in Cruces. The only problem I have with it is that the pond is not currently in the best state. What I mean is that since they drained it and worked on it earlier in the year, it still hasnt been properly stocked. There are a few small catfish, bluegill, and minnows, but that is it. There used to be a lot more life in there. I breed koi, so I get that it takes time for a pond to get properly established, but its already being taken over by algae. Im really hoping that they will throw in a good amount of crayfish, and/or freshwater shrimp, as that will help keep the algae in check, and they are a great source of food for the fish that are currently in the pond, and the trout that should be getting stocked soon. One cool thing about the park is the population of cats that come out at night. If you love cats and live somewhere that doesnt allow pets, or if you just want to be surrounded by cats that are almost close enough to pet, then stop by here about an hour after sunset and kickback by the pond. From what I experienced the best area for kitty watching is the north west side. I parked on E. Colorado Ave in front of the apartments and walked up the little hill. Theres a lot of light here, some benches, and even a covered picnic table that the cats inspect very thoroughly. Im pretty sure that you could get one or two of the cats I saw to let you pet them if you brought some type of food, especially the really curious little gray one, but thats up to you, and I take no responsibility for any scratches or fleas you might get.

This is a great park ! The only thing I can think that is a problem is people who do not pick up after the pets, and people who follow you around with their dogs. People need to be more curious of others that have dogs that can be around other pets!

This park has so much potential and used to be a great place for families to gather. Now its best to stay away from as soon as it hits 5pm. After that there are drug deals all around it homeless roam all over and if you follow the news there has been shootings in this area. Huge disappointment since its so pretty.

This is a very lovely park. The pond is currently empty due to damage to the pump/drain system. When it it is full and stocked with fish its a really fun place to bring the kids. Its a great place to walk and self reflect. Great for Pokemon Go and its located in a high traffic area in case assistance is needed. My fiance and I went to Youngs Park for the Renaissance Festival. We had a great time. Youngs Park is a perfect setting for this event. The winding pathways are perfect for the merchants booths, and evoke the feeling of a Medieval bazaar. Granted it was mmuch cleaner thsn the afore mentioned bazaar. The pond is a lovely spot. Too bad the ducks are gone. The Faire and the park made for a wonderful afternoon.
