Ive been here a few times now and the burgers, grilled cheese appetizer, and whiskey flights are all very good. The fries could use some improvement. The beignets are delicious. Ive had a few different servers and really the best person to ask for is Andrea. She is very considerate and made our night extra special.
Great food. Tried calling numerous times during business shut-down to help support them. Can’t ever get through on the phone and have noticed from the past their hours aren’t updated to project actual hoursI’m assuming they’ve closed and am giving up on this place, unfortunately.
Going to miss the cauliflower offerings, which i heard are going away. Absolutely love this place. Best whiskey options in town. Terrific food. Excellent service.
INCREDIBLE! Started with Creole Poutine and was amazing. Southern Cornbread is perfectly prepared. Hot Chicken sandwich is well flavored, crispy coating with tender chicken, and perfectly sized for the price. Leave room fir the beignets. They are served warm and they practically melt in your mouth. Service is friendly and attentive.
We went here for Sunday brunch on a sunny day and decided to sit outside. For drinks we started with Mimosas and Cajun lemonade. The mimosas were the best Ive ever had and was refreshing. For food, we ordered a Breakfast bowl and a Trust me quiche with a Side of potato casserole and cheddar grits. I specially liked the casserole and the bowl. The service was friendly but a tad bit slow. But we werent complaining about that since we very looking for a lazy brunch anyways. Overall, I would definitely come back and try their Lunch menu and their glorious mimosas.
Service is pretty bad, took 25 minutes from seating to getting a drink. Order the burger however you want but know that its coming out beyond well done and somehow will take close to another 30 mins with a mostly empty dining room. Under seasoned and over cooked at a premium price.
Starters, cocktails, entrees were all fab. Kids loved it. We loved it. The Beignets were legit. Max ordered “trust me” and loved it. Cauliflower app was so good!!! My fiance had the chicken and biscuits, which looked and smelled superb. I got a taste, the gravy was splendid. She really enjoyed it.
Food and service as excellent. It was a great bonus that they had books for our two year old to read at the table as well. I truly suggest taking the trust us option for your cocktail and burger, you will not be disappointed!
Amazing food!! Some of the best in Lansing without a doubt... Very inexpensive for what you get..
Got takeout and the food was still excellent when I got home with it. Poutine fries were awesome and Trust Us Burger was great too! Love the Beignets *drool*. Food was packaged well too. Staff was friendly and helpful and following safety guidelines per current situation.
Love the look of this place, the pared-down walls, elaborate chairs and chandeliers. Service was terrific each time. The gumbo is thick, has a bite, and is memorable. I love the chicken and waffles, the beet salad. Its the kind of simple but complex restaurant that makes you want to keep coming back till youve tried everything on the menu that appeals. Oh, that Pinot Noir was wonderful.
Best Cajun food every. Friendly staff. Im still full. Jambalaya out of this f...king world.
So good! If I had a car this would definitely be my go to bar and restaurant. Love they’re vintage eclectic vibe. If you’re feeling like trying something unique and tasty try their fries and dessert. Also their burgers are super good. If you just want a bar and hang out they have a separate section just for that, so they have the best of both worlds. This just made me hungry so I’m gonna stop writing this review.
Amazing. Service exceptional, food extra tasty. Food isnt crazy expensive
Awesome food, awesome drinks. Great staff. Alac at the bar comes up with awesome trust us cocktails.
We originally intended to go to the place next door but it was closed on Monday. Wound up here and I wasnt disappointed. What a cool little hole in the wall joint. Service was great, shrimp and grits were fantastic. Id definitely recommend going.
The only reason I give it a 4 is because I hit it on an off day when they were breaking in new kitchen staff. Both burgers were over cooked (W despite requests for MR & M) and the beignets were not at all beignets- they were super dense and not good at all. So much so I didnt even finish mine. This was my first experience so nothing else to compare it to. The drinks were great as was the service although no attempt by management to correct the food issues. The cornbread was the star of the experience and I would go back for that alone with fingers crossed for a better experience as the potential is clearly there.
The food is great EVERY time. Delicious drinks. Awesome service. Love brunch here! Shrimp n Grits never disappoints. Highly recommend!
The burgers are varied in their flavors, from a classic burger with lettuce/tomato/onion to more unique flavors including pimento cheese or oysters. The Creole also offers a dry-aged beef option that really makes the flavor pop (and you can add an egg to a burger!!!!!). The salt/vinegar fries and apps are second-to-none. You really have to try the appetizers. And, their drinks... their drinks... fantastic bourbon selection, with probably 50-75 on the menu. They also have cool cocktails that are some of the best Ive had.
Awesome lunch. Bloody Mary’s were great bathrooms were clean. Wonderful atmosphere
Small place with big flavors. Great drink selection but overall a bit pricey on a college budget. The shrimp cakes were to delicious.
Highly recommend! Super good brunch! The Breakfast Fries and beignets were some of the best breakfast foods Ive had in the lansing area. Very clean, great ambiance, and environment!
Creole is a cool spot in Old Town. They have one of the best whiskey selections in Lansing and even have a dram club that gets you discounts and specials on whiskey drinks. Their food is good too. They have some Cajun/Creole options, like jambalaya, shrimp and grits, begniegs, etc and good burgers and sandwiches. The bartenders and servers are friendly too.
Highly recommend! Had Shrimp and Grits with Andouille Sausage and eggs. So good. They even make their own hot sauce. Along with a steaming french press pot and fresh cream. My server Shannon was great. Friendly, patient and great recommendations Above and beyond! Thank you
Cool environment, fast friendly staff, and most importantly, amazing food. I had the creole burger (fried shrimp and some kind of horseradish sauce both on the beef patty) and it was easily in the top ten burgers Ive ever had. Really stellar. Highly recommend this place for a date night or a lunch trip.
Cozy environment, great food, friendly and not overbearing staff. The mushroom fries are light on the batter and heavy on the actual mushroom. That was the first indicator in value of the food itself. Floors and overhangs were pretty clean. Lighting is soft and creates a speakeasy like ambiance.
Great food and the fries were incredible. Super quick takeout.
I’ve enjoyed the food every time I’ve been here. But they need to talk to whomever does the ordering because they are always out of something...food, specific spirit, etc. Also, you pride yourself on being a southern/creole restaurant but don’t have standard drinks from the area. Lastly, the sweet vermouth (standard in creole cocktails) you use is the cheapest on the market. You could benefit by focusing on quality product. But staff is always friendly. I take the good with the bad at this place :)
Friendly wait staff and The Clementine (small pot) drink is delicious. Had the BYO Jambalaya with chicken and mushrooms and a side of pimiento mac and cheese. So yum!! I highly recommend this restaurant
Ive taken a couple friends here recently. We usually sit outside (inside can be too noisy to have a good conversation), but I like the historical feel of the inside. Outside, though, is a lovely seating area, and you feel a more apart of the vibrancy of Old Town life. They offer a vegan burger (the bun is not, however), which also gets it points in my book.
Reasonable prices and great brunch spot. May be crowded with a long wait. Love the crepes!
If I could give 3.5 stars I would. The food is pretty good but over hyped and maybe over priced. The bignets were awesome! The fries... Less than average. So its a mixed bag. I also find the seating uncomfortable and the atmosphere too cramped/dark. This place is not bad but I am not going to seek it out in the future.
First impression was how small it seemed, then after getting the cornbread appetizer I realized what I was in for. Quick service on even the busiest of days, and straight up no fuss good food. I have gone back and will continue to do so.
Jyes to say yes. 24 caret solid Southern hospitality with interesting Creole inspired foodstuffs.Just loved the portabella fries, shrimp cakes, and beignets but the jambalaya was weak cheap with the ingredients especially given we ordered almost every possible add-in: chicken, shrimp, sausage (bits), and scant mushrooms. Something disappointing about it because of that.Withstanding, dry aged burger was something special. Was much better than it looked, surprisingly juicy rich with flavor, as were the sprouts; really quite nice. Enjoyable. What a fun space and a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Their surprise menu thing was good. Friend liked the drink. I liked the dinner. Dont expect a real creole menu. Name is deceiving.
I have to give five stars for the jambalaya, I have lived down South for several years have had jambalaya in Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and other parts of the states. This place killed it on the flavors and well worth the price. When we gave our name they said it would be an hour and 20 minute wait so we went to punk Taco for an appetizer however it ended up being only 30 minutes so I would recommend better judging that.I know they recently turned into some type of burger bar as well so we went ahead and tried the Sysol too.We shared both plates and I forgot to add the 30-day aged patty. Our Burger was supposed to be stuffed but they need to work on that, having grown up in Minneapolis and home of the Juicy Lucy it needs to be reevaluated bc it wasnt stuffed and oozing much.If you need a true Minnesotan whos tried all the Juicy Lucys to taste test for your cooks Id be more than happy to help them get it right. We ordered extra crispy fries they seemed hand-cut and they were really good. The atmosphere was good but Im telling you the jambalaya is not to be missed. We had a shrimp and anidouille but next time Illprobably try everything. If youre going to have an everything jambalaya a discount would be nice. Also on the burger the Fried Tomato needs to be a little bit more crispy.Gosh I feel like Chef Ramsay but this place try the jambalaya!
Good evening resturant location. The food is good and servers are friendly.Beer is market value and they have some unique alcohol choices. Good place for a group of friends.
First time for brunch. It was amazing. The food we All had was outstanding and the service was excellent. Will definitely be back.
Been there a few times always a wait as it’s tiny, and I’d have to saw the drinks are over price for what you get. The wine wasn’t very good, the IPA’s ok (found one I thought was good out of the tap at the bar) cocktails for 10 bucks were not worth it (glass of sangria for 10 too?) Bartender seemed like she didn’t want to be there. I’ve had good service in the past, but 60 bucks for an app and 2 drinks for 2 people with tip, I expect at least a minimum effort to be friendly. Drunk guy in the bathroom yelling at people was obviously over served. Owners need some quality control with the staff, standards and maybe either get some better wine/beer or come down to earth on pricing. Atmosphere is unique.
Absolutely amazing! The staff was great, food was delicious!
Amazing food, very friendly staff
The Creole recently converted to a burger focused restaurant. Its roots in fine dining made the initial transition a great experience as the burgers were some of the best in the area. However, now that the transition is complete their choices are questionable. The primary concern I have is The Creoles insistence they only offer burgers cooked to medium. On my last visit the chefs medium was rare. No, not medium rare, completely rare. I am not sure if the kitchen just lost track of which burgers were cooking, but an inability to cook a burger to the advertised style, let alone a safe temperature, has cause me to take my business elsewhere.Note:Previously, The Creole was one of the higher end establishments in the Lansing Michigan area. At that time, I rated it 5 stars.
Great food! Very accommodating staff who helped entertain a four year old. Loved the book for a menu and the beignets are to die for.
Great service and great food
Food is fantastic. Nice atmosphere.
The burgers are phenomenal, I recommend the chefs choice. The breakfast menu has limited options.
Very tasty burger and french press coffee.
We picked this place on a whim after a very emotional morning sending our little brother off to the Navy. Our waitress put the happy back into our day! She was so friendly, spunky, and answered all our questions. We didn’t even feel rushed to place our orders! For starters, the portobello fries are PHENOMENAL! ....and when they ask if you wanna try the “trust us?” .....trust them. You won’t be disappointed. It is SO good! Highly recommend making this a lunch or dinner stop on your route!
Ate there for brunch today. Server at the bar was really friendly and helpful! Food was simply fantastic. Corn bread and biscut chicken was to die for!
Very cute old bar on historic street with a lot of charm. The shrimp cakes were better than I wouldve imagined and def the highlight. They were firm and meaty, and the spicy aioli was the perfect compliment. They were out of the item I wanted to order, but the hot chicken sandwich was a good back backup. Solid casual place with good food and extensive bourbon list.
Came here because Meat BBQ was sold out. So glad we ate here!!! Fabulous, authentic Cajun food! Ordered shrimp cakes (amazing), mini grilled cheese sandwiches (the favorite) and portobello mushrooms for appetizers. Entrees ordered were chicken and biscuits (awesome), jambalaya with chicken and shrimp (LOVED) and pimento burger with macaroni and cheese (great). Only bummer was the wine list () and out of andouille sausage (boo!)
Went early so we were seated right away. Place is smaller and had good atmosphere. It was a comfortable place to dine and chat. I tried shrimp and grits which was good. I really want to go back and try a burger. Prices were what I expected for this kind of restaurant. Not expensive but not cheap. The Creole is small and cozy, with wonderful Queen Anne chairs at the tables. They have transitioned into also offering gourmet hamburgers, but on this evening we stayed with the traditional Cajun fare. I had the shrimp and grits, featuring a generous helping if shrimp with the best grits Ive tasted outside the South. The sauce was incredible.
Decent bar. Nice wait staff, excellent whisky selection. They have a few beers on tap too. I did not eat here.
Great service, modern space. Loved the food, beignets were delicious (bigger than Im used to!) I really liked the shrimp and grits.
To be honest I am giving this one star because the waitstaff was friendly and I cant give a review with a lower score. I was really expecting a flavorful quality burger. What my son got was a burger with bacon so burnt it was not recognizable. He took a few bites and said forget it. My burger was better but the cheap bun immediately fell apart. I ended up splitting my meal with him. The burgers were so overpriced. It was a total disappointment. McDonalds would have been better.
I tried the fried chicken biscuit and loved it..everyone else wished theyd got it as well!
Tried this place because of the interesting menu. Had the bone marrow, which came with toppings that had a sweet, charred flavor. I decided to do the trust us entree. My dinner partner had the same and enjoyed it, I on the other thought it was just okay. It was a pan fried fish filet that I thought was quite dry. The rice that came with it was a sticky kind that I didnt think went well with the fish. Overall good experience though.
With a great menu, even better prices. This place is both affordable and serving some amazing burgers. And the beer selection is top notch too.
This place is small, so I recommend getting there early for brunch. I tried the Trust me Quiche and the side of hash brown casserole. We asked the waitress how big the slice of quiche was she did not know. We asked her about another breakfast item, she also didn’t know. She willingly went back to check but still. The quiche ended up being cauliflower and leek. It was a strange texture but the crust was awesome. And the hash brown casserole was delicious. And brunch was a little pricey. Would like to come back and try the burgers because they are known for that.
Great atmosphere, good service and some good food. Worth a visit. Take some time to visit the shops and galleries nearby.
Decent food but it was a little greasy for my taste. I can see why others would love it, though.
Different setting, in a good way. Like a classy quiet place for dinner. Food was amazing
We stopped by this place on a whim. we were very impressed with both the quality of the food and the prices.Definitely recommend both the cauliflower wings and the portabella fries. We didnt try the trust us options on the menu this time but we will be trusting them with our future meals and drinks.
The bar and the staff are exceptional! They have gluten-free noted on their menu and gluten-free bread options; however, they (absolutely lack a follow-through system) are not very well versed in making sure the kitchen doesnt add other gluten full ingredients that arent apparent like fried onions that were called onions or something similar like an accidental order of shrimp cake instead of brisket WHEN there should be a system to DENOTE allergies on their POS ordering system so that if someone is ordering gluten-free bread that other Gluten ingredients are not added (like vake / fried) ie allow the chefs and line Cooks to question orders and think outside the box if a gluten-free request has been made because obviously its not clear that the whole meal is supposed to be gluten free ( as often requested by patrons)
Great atmosphere. Amazing coffee and desserts. Wonderful breakfast too.And the shopping in old Town is an added bonus.
Had brunch there twice. The food is really good, but a bit more than I can generally afford, especially for the portions. My greatest frustration was splashing out for the mimosas, and getting the whole bottle of champagne. The bottle was brought to the table and the waitress opened it in front of my friend and me, and then proceeded to empty it into our glasses. At this point we each had a full glass of champagne and a pitcher of orange juice and the need to defy the laws of physics in order to mix ourselves mimosas. I attempted it, and the orange juice caused the champagne to fizz and it went absolutely everywhere. After cleaning mimosa off myself and the table I was left with less than inch of mimosa. I tried explaining to the waitress what happened but she was unapologetic and said there was nothing that could be done. I’ve not been back since, but I could be persuaded to try again, perhaps for a burger rather than a brunch.
I went here on a first date recently and was not disappointed! Personally, Im not a fan of creole cuisine, but I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of food. We started off with the goat cheese truffles. These were just ok. The taste wasnt what I was expecting, and eating six cheese balls between two people can fill you up fast. Next up was the gumbo, which was absolutely amazing! I could have eaten just that all night and been perfectly content.
Great selection of whiskeys and whiskys followed by a unique menu of Cajun-inspired cuisine. Had the jambalaya with andouille, which had a nice medium heat and went well with the southern bruschetta starter.
So far every thing iv tried off the menu has been great, I ordered the trust me drink special from the bar, it was one of the best drinks iv had. Definitely recommend this restaurant/bar.
This place is so good! Try the new hot chicken. Even the burn your face off sauce isnt so hot. Its perfect.
If I eat another pimento cheeseburger it would border on devotion. I LOVE this place’s PIMENTO cheeseburger. I love it so much; it’s worth eating the first bite with your eyes closed. And, the fries are hella yummy. Also, I recently tried their veggie burger and was surprised my whole incredibly delicious it was. Highly recommend.
Extravagant prices but was cooked with heart. Got the salmon dip, cornbread, Roasted Duck, short rib, and some beers. Everything was delicious but maybe too small of a portion for the price. Will come back when I earn more!
By far the BEST pork chop I ever had! My husband and I will be returning! Jessica our server was awesome as well!!!
Cute place! The quiche (brunch menu) was outstanding. The beignets were meh. They were much more dense than what Im used to (in New Orleans). Overall, a great place to check out if youre in Lansing.
Portabello fries are a must. Cool music and cool vibe. Food was delicious. Nice relaxing atmosphere and the service was lovely
Great adult atmosphere, Tons of wine to any like. Romantic, quiet and delicious cuisine!
Best brunch ever. The fried chicken biscuit is life! Love the french press coffee and atmosphere as well.
Im giving it 3 because I only ate the beignets. Those were awesome, but I did wait an hour for a table and 2 beignets. I wasnt really taken care of by the staff. I think there was something going on with being down a staff person in the kitchen, because the food took a long time, the servers barely saw our table, and we couldnt get a check. I decided not to eat here because I was hungry and didnt want to wait longer on the food. Id come back and try it again being that Im from Louisiana, but hopefully better service.
Great food and service. Excellent bar with great whiskey choices.
I miss the old menu but theyve done a nice job mixing in more casual options with the more traditional creole flavor. Cant go wrong with their burgers or any number of specialty drinks they offer. Still love the vibe and is a go to for me and friends.
First time at this place. I really liked everything about it. My sister and I each ordered a different burger and split, the Cauliflower burger was awesome and the Impossible burger the only reason I gave 4 stars is the burger toppings wimpy. The slice of tomato was paper thin, no greens...one was supposed to have arugula however it didnt make the plate. Excellent service!
I got the shrimp and grits with a side order of fried oysters. My husband got the classic burger (30 Day aged beef) with fries Cooke medium. My husband loved it. The temp in the burger was medium and had a nice tangy aged flavor. The burger was a nice size. A good half pound in a soft and airy bun. He demolished the fries. My food was good, but wasnt great. The temp in the food was just barely over warm, the flavor was OK.. I was looking for salt for the grits. (There wasnt any on the table and I didnt want to bother the waitress) The fried oysters were HUGE. They were only OK. Unfortunately the coating was soggy and greasy on the bottom, there were actually cool to the touch. The flavor was nice though.I will be back to give it another try. We had an early dinner and others not packed. That did change as we were dining. It was getting very busy by the time we left. Overall the experience was pretty good, the food decent and the service was fast.
Great food, stopped in as we passed threw the state.
They always do a great job here. The crepes are always great as is the coffee. Would love to see more places like this around town.
Nothing Creole about the food here. Employees seem to be unhappy and thus not very friendly in response to questions i had. Depressing place. My server seemed to know better than to ask how my food was although i displayed no signs of dissatisfaction during the experience .
THe food is great, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is fantastic!
They but the urge in burger! I have had the trust us 6 times now and it has always been new and delicious. They dont name them but the one with buttered buns was so good I didnt put the burger down until it was gone!!!
Great food and great whiskey/bourbon selection.
Beautiful. A massive wiskey and wine menu. And the food and atmosphere were fantastic. I ordered a suprise burger and it was excellent as well. The cooks are a good as the servers.
Delicious! Ann Arbor quality food for Lansing prices.
Smaller place so a 40 min wait for a party of 6. Food was good, craft cocktails need some perfecting.
Absolutely the best place for good old fashioned Louisiana style food. I ordered the Creole Burger, and my partner ordered the boneless ribs. Absolutely delicious. The service was amazing. We had Makenzie as our server, best server. The atmosphere of the restaurant is typical Louisiana style building. Rustic walls, with black floors and ceiling. Very beautiful building, delicious food, and amazing service.
Liz was AMAZING!! Great food, Great service!!
