This is a 10 minute drive from the highway, and worth a stop if youre going to or coming from Bents Old Fort near La Junta. Its not on Trip Advisor, so Im glad it was reviewed on Google, so that we knew to stop here.I expected to just stop, read the placard, see the remains of the fort, and move on. But, it does require walking about a half mile round trip to see the remains of the ruins and all of the placards; the walk is easy and worth it, as it gives you a nice view of the Arkansas River, as well.Note: There are no facilities here.
Great piece of history!
Needs better signage and trails
A monument marks the location of where the fort was situated. No structures remain. Located off US50 west of Lamar, CO. Trails with kiosks and scenic overlooks of the Arkansas River. Day use only.
A very neat area to visit. The trail could use some better upkeep and the signage to tell you how to get here could be better, but the view is pretty and it offers a good history lesson. There is also a sign that shows you a picture of what it used to look like and you can line it up and see the really landmarks as they still exist today.
Awesome evening with full moon! Serene, peaceful and full of history!
William Bent built his new Fort in an awesome spot just above the Arkansas River. No buildings, but very interesting to look out over the countryside.
Great authentic reproduction of the old fort and trading post. Free and educational.
Not much to see
Takes you back in time!
