Beck offers a varied and interesting collection of artifacts related to regional African American history and serves as a statewide repository of related items. Many documents, such as yearbooks and newspapers, from bygone eras are housed here. The only reason I was disappointed is the documents I was specifically looking for during the course of scholarly study were not available to me due to restrictions and archive reorganizination.

Highly recommend visiting when in Knoxville. A great of history regarding the racism faced by African Americans in the area, including the Urban Renewal, segragation and prominent figures from pre-civil war era to today. The woman at the front desk shared a great deal of information before we did our self guided tour. Very friendly and inviting.

They have a full kitchen and warmer to keep your goods in if need be. An ice machine for ice. Historic home in East Knoxville.

We learned so much history about the town we live in, the people who paved the way for others of all colors, and the importance of learning and treasuring your heritage and ancestry lineage. Beautiful facility nestled in east Knox that contains much painful history we need to be continually reminded of. It is a place of patient education and resources that will make you both wince and delight in the persistence of diversity through history.Even the gift shop had me stuck for quite some time filled with local authors and artists. Relics of slavery are terrifying to behold and I strongly recommend a visit if you have not already been. Lovely, informative staff more than willing to answer questions. Be sure to thank the staff for the time and energy that goes into making this a sanctuary for the true colors of American history.

This historical site is very informative for African Americans. It shows how we as a people took pride in ourselves and buisnesses that were owned by African Americans. Truly educated and very prosperous individuals until the City of Knoxville cane up with a project to build a Coliseum. This project destroyed over 107 buisnesses which were black owned. There is so much literature to review and gain knowledge of our heritage.

Everything was good up until the wedding day everything went down hill because I guess the CEO showed up. Everything that was agreed upon she didn’t like, she walked around like a warden and we were inmates in jail. she was very disrespectful we were told we could use a room to get dressed she didn’t like that, she told the bride she had to get out the room she was very unprofessional, she stayed around the entire wedding hovering over the party even asking for food and cake. We was supposed to get a 50 Dollar deposit back as long as everything was cleaned up and it was but because she saw someone drinking a beer in some alley that had nothing to do with the wedding we can’t get it back. let’s just say a day that was supposed to be so special was ruined because of power trip.worst experience ever she even ran some guest off because they didn’t fill comfortable....

St Johns Missionary Baptist Church on MLK in Knoxville, Tn went for a guided tour. Our tour guide was an Asset to Beck and us. As young as she was, her knowledge of Knoxvilles Black Culture outstanding. When our guide told a story or discribed an event, it was so vivid and it transformed you. Please visit its free. Donations are excepted and needed. They change the Museum every 5 or 6 months. Can not wait to go back again.

First off i love the center. But that ceo they have there now thats another story. She came at us on her first time as an arogant rude and really angry. We were there for my brothers wedding and when they first reserved the center the ladies showed them the room each would use well every thing started off great until this ceo came in then it all goes down hill fast first she complains about us being in the room we was in then the table cant nothing touch the table then she rushed the bride to get finish with her make up and then sent her into a bathroom stall to put on her dress this was by far the worst conduct of bussiness i have ever experienced. I would not reccomend any one to do any events there thats just my experience and how i felt fron the way she treated us now the other employees there were awsome very helpful but her no i would never send any one there for any type of event so if i could give them no stars i would but i had to give them one.
