We were greet by a very nice lady at the front desk. She gave us some directions and we walk around the museum. Is free very important, thank you Osceola county for that. You can see some of the history of Osceola. They have a lot of item used in the past 1900s. Also next door is the Shingle Creek trail. You can do kayak, bicycle, run and more. Such a great place to spend a fun day. Well come back.
My wife and I had two events at this location last week. One of them was put on by the historical society the other was put off by the Saint Cloud chamber. Both events were well-run well organized and a pleasure to be at. We recommend if youre in the area go see Osceola County Historical Society welcome center and Village.
Very nice mini museum, with many historical displays, there are even live aligators in one exhibit. Bonnie, the attendant, is very helpful and knowledgeable. If youre in the area it is definitely worth your while to stop in and take in some of Floridas history while cooling off in the refreshing air-conditioned building...
This place has lots of interesting displays and fun activities for kids of all ages. The building is not very big but it is packed with information! My teens and I walked through the exhibits three times and found new things (plus things that we missed) each time. Learn the history and nature of the area, or get souvenirs, or just get information for local attractions. Whatever your reason is for being in the area: I suggest that you add this welcome center to your list.
Id give this place 5 stars for the museum & trail which was something good for us to do, but it gets minus 3 stars for the woman being rude to my child. We were not given a friendly greeting, but other visitors were. My husband found out about the scavenger hunt when the lady was explaining it to other people. Paper is self explanatory: look for the items/bring back for a prize.(Pic 1: I crossed out stamps to not spoil it for you) My husband asked if we could borrow a pencil. She said he could borrow it, but as he walked away, she passive aggressively said Im going to need that back. I asked him if it was a pencil they were selling, but it was just an ordinary used pencil. He returned it afterwards. I assume she let him use it because they were in the open & couldnt find a reason to say no. After reading the 1st question (Pic #2) we couldnt find the animal. We were on a timed schedule, so I asked the lady if the animals we needed to find were on the display only & she said,The prize is only for kids, not adults. There were other couples w/o kids doing the scavenger. I said, Ok, I just want to know if the answers to the questions are in the display only?or also in posters, interactive screens? She acted too busy sorting papers & says, Um, its there, um I cant tell you. You have to look. Im looking like, what? SPOLIER ALERT-in case lady gets mad. I say, So, for #1, if I say alligator, will there be an alligator on the display or on poster? She says,I cant say. We continue & enjoy our time. When we were done, we go see displays not included in the scavenger. There is an exit door (pic3)& according to peoples comments, there is a trail in back. (And there is one. Starting to the left of museum.)I didnt think we should have exited through there, but my husband had already opened it. The door makes a small noise similar to when you open a store door to alert owners someone entered. (not a loud alarm) & we see nothing but the parking lot & a restaurant next door. We walk back in, the lady rushes over & .Did anyone open that backdoor? My husband apologized & asked about the trail. She says that door must not be opened. There is nothing back there. Again my husband asks & she walked past us over to the wall to check the alarm & as we are walking out she says reprimanding him You do not open that back door. My husband says, I did not see a sign on it, sorry. She said that there is nothing past that and that is the end of the museum. As we are walking out she is still saying, There is only one way in and one way out. Oh, I almost forgot. So, the grand prize?! Maybe this will be a good thing, right? NOPE! Just when you are thinking, Maybe its me, Maybe Im just over thinking this ladys attitude & maybe she is just very serious about her job. My kid gives her the filled paper, which Im thinking from all the fuss she made earlier that she is going to take the answer key out and check, She says she doesnt need the paper! She says to her as if wanting her to say no, You want the prize? Its just a small thing. I say, yes. She hands her a little alligator & continues whatever she is pretending to do. Very rude. (Pic4) Shows the cute alligators awarded that day along with the rude Hispanic lady keeping a close eye on her gators (or us!) Overall, we made it a great experience. Warning: Do not exit door that says:EXIT!
Its a fairly small museum although Ive visited smaller ones. My family enjoyed it! Very well kept. The presentation was interesting.
Neat little spot. A ton of good information if youre looking. Great for tourist. Fun for 20 minutes as a native. Test to see how much you already know! xD
One of my MOST favorite places to visit!!
So welcoming and lots of history on display. Kept very clean and very well lit. Quite souvenir area and very pleasant personnel. Plenty of parking. Very nice to visit and get to know the area.
When visiting Kissimmee and Osceola County, stop by its welcome center. Its like a step back in time to how the county began. They even have live gators!
Very good small museum sketching central FLorida history. The 4 dollar postcards in the Museum shop was pretty over the top though.
Great little stop to learn about the olden days and the state of Florida.
Very cool history museum
A very educational facility. The history of the local area and central Florida is well covered. Lots of nice displays.
Cute little museum, and its free. A lot about Florida history in agriculture and cattle farming, also the wildlife.
Its so fun to learn so much in one place. Even our nine year old loved it. The use of iPads to swipe to the next description of floors and faina is a great addition.
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to visit Shingle Creek Park and parked behind the visitors center - on 192 going west and went inside. The visitors center is much more than what you think, its a small museum, that is high quality and provides great insight about the history of the area - Kissimmee . The museum director greets everyone who walks in the museum, is very friendly who provided us with much information. Dont miss seeing the exhibits - its all free including access to beautiful Shingle Park. Kids will love everything about the center and the park. Dont forget to bring the kids bicycles!
Great local museum and launching point for 5 miles of walking.
Impressively interesting . Interactive exhibits.
Cool place the kids loved it. Also there is a GeoCache hidden here so double fun!!!
Educational, entertaining and FUN!
Hellhello everyone most people forget about welcome centers or the brochures that are involved with the wonderful thing about the welcome centers is that you learn a little bit more history about that area and where you can go in the hot spots and whats happening around town if youre into the beach scene or just restaurants or museums or just antique shops or things like that I suggest that the welcome centers shouldnt be your first stop tell the Osceola welcome center was very enlightening and reference to the old houses and the the family to move there and started Kissimmee Orlando Osceola all the surrounding suburbs of the city and it was really enlightening because I wasnt one of those people but now with my one friend she is enlighten me to a forgotten place of interest in history and things to go see and more things that oh yeah I like shell collecting we can go to this beach and we can collect so many different shells even though were on the Atlantic ocean but its a great experience and you learn some other things that you didnt know exist there and its a great idea so dont forget about your welcome centers anywhere in every city theyre all there and especially if you need your emergency locations and door you know maybe you want to go to the thrift store may you want to go to an antique store theyre awesome so check it out thank you Andrea
Ilove this place

Enjoyed this place should be advertised more then more people would go friendly staff and you can also buy reduced price tickets for other places ie Kennedy space centre.
Very nice museum. Small but very informative about the county and history of Florida. Nice and quiet. Even though it is on 192 and in the middle of the tourist area it is still away from all the hustle and bustle. The girl working there was very nice and informative.
Nice little place to get a comprehensive history of the area. Kind of a quiet break from the big city.
Great place to take the kids to learn about our history. Plus, how can you beat free!
