It’s a beautiful park and it’s definitely worth a visit. I thought that the petroglyphs were super cool to see in person. It’s amazing to think about the history of the area as your there. My only complain would be about the lack of signs/maps on and around the trails. There were some trail markers, but it would have been nice if the trails were better mapped.
Very nice park and campground. Like most Missouri State Campgrounds, the shower houses are quite nice. I really like that they have faucets for the showers, versus those push button things that never work well. The firewood for sale at the marina is a bit pricey for what you get, so if you can, bring your own firewood. No out of state wood, due to the emerald ash borer restrictions, but if you live in Missouri, youre good. The spurs are paved, which is great, particularly when it is raining, so your sure doesnt turn into a mud pit right by your camper door! The lake is nice, and there is a great restaurant right by the marina. If you prefer, you can rent cabins as well.
Had a great time on the lake today! We were blessed to be able to snag one of the floating docks on the back side of the lake and had a fantastic time swimming, tubing, and enjoying each others company. Definitely wish there were more of the floating docks. The rentals seem a little expensive, but then again, there arent many other options close by like it.
We stopped at this state park for a quick lunch while on a long car trip. It was only 5-8 miles from the main highway--just a short trip form nearby Kirksville. We enjoyed the picnic area shaded by beautiful oak trees with picnic tables on wooden platforms. The picnic area was very well maintained with outhouses nearby. We also enjoyed the views of the nearby lake. We will return to this state park if we ever go back that way. Because of its proximity to a town with great services and a beautiful place to rest from a long drive.
It has a lovely peaceful lake and beautiful hiking trails. Perfect place to get out and enjoy nature with friends and family and awesome picnic spots.
Such a beautiful place to visit. Lots of trails, beautiful scenery, plenty of things to do. The lake is gorgeous!! The park is clean, and well taken care of. I have lots of fond memories there. There are so many picnic areas and shelters available, and they are spread out far enough to give a sense of almost privacy. We look forward to our next visit.
Great Park. Quite large. Do some hiking around there. Go to the marina. Have dinner at the restaurant. Great memories. Dont fall off the boat
My wife and I stay in one of the cabins every year right after Labor Day when the crowds leave. We usually have the lake to ourselves and rent a pontoon boat. The restaurant is clean and the food I order is always delicious. Sitting outside as the sun goes down with nothing to do is the best medicine for a hectic lifestyle like ours. Sometimes no internet access is a good thing! They are dog friendly too! This will be our 8th visit.
Beautiful treasure I didnt know existed. Fall colors are incredible!
Small gorgeous park. Very clean, cabins are small but adequate. Would be nice to have a soft chair though
A lot of picnic areas, hiking trails. We really enjoyed the beautiful Scenic Park.
Park was nice and clean. The dining hall we reserved was well equipped and had AC. The views of the lake are fantastic.
Been coming here since I was a kid and now its time to bring my kids down. First trip in years and theyve really cleaned up the place. Newew updated facilities, clean cabins and great fun on the lake for the kids. Its a 90 horsepower limited lake so its not as busy as the bigger lakes which makes it great for younger families.
Delicious food and attentive service. COVID precautions were being taken.
Favorite park to go to. Two different play grounds, walking trails, fishing, boat rentals. And you see a lot of deer this time of year.
The Host was horrible. The good things is: it is nice to visit, pretty park, most campsites are pretty level. If you have questions you have to ask a local that is from around there. The Marina was nice. We rented a boat, was nice and very pretty 500 acre lake. Ski, Tube or just drive around on the boat. Very nice and relaxing. If you worry about Covid the is not a place to stay away from people. People up there will try to walk right up to you. Kids everywhere ages 6 to 17. If you go, in which I do recommend if you have never been dont pick campsite 46.
Challenging and fun bike trail ! The harder you can send it the better it is !
Love the view. Great service and delicious food. Will be back to enjoy the covered outdoor area.
Great hike/bike trail that runs just over 10 miles one way with a place to camp in the woods. Park had a nice designated, paved bike path which flows over hills making for a nice ride or walk. Tons of grassy knolls, places to BBQ, and play the day away. Also a nice, clean Marina and loads of places to explore by water via boat, kayak, paddle board. Great stop! Watch out for the racoons though we saw at least 5 (4 in a pack and 1 solo). Also, watch your speeds in and out of the park...tons of deer!
Beautiful park! Paddle board friendly too. RV power runs on the low-ish side, I could not use my 30Amp surge protector.
Stunner of a State Park... great lake experience; fishing, swimming, boating options. Really good camping options with great facilities. Lake view cabins are another option.
A must visit! This place is breathtakingly beautiful.
Very clean family friendly campground. Nice lake marina and swimming beach.
Totally great day ️ love it every time we go
The boats and water looked so lively and refreshing for our family from Wisconsin.
Seemed quiet and peaceful. Not too many camping sites from what I saw
The lake is beautiful, but perhaps more beautiful is the quality time you’ll be able to spend here. With plenty of trails to hike and places to camp, you will not be disappointed by the park’s beauty and serenity. I would highly recommend it to anybody looking for an active morning hike or a weekend in nature.
Food great but had to wait 45 minutes for carryout no social distancing in entry way.
Fish for days. They may be small, but they are plentiful. At least they were today.
Close to Truman State University and good place to go with student.
Great water and great greens but the urge to poop is so great that I wish God would have struck me down just so I could loose the feeling.
Very beautiful. Great restaurant, beach and marina.
One of the nicest Missouri State parks. Camp host is the nicest woman goes out of her way to make sure everything is ok.Restrooms and showers are clean and well taken care of.The lake has a restaurant and we plan to go there this fall when we come back.Nicely paved bike trail also a hiking trail which we did not get to use from all the rain we got. Will be back again. Also 10 mins from Kirksville which has everything you need if run out of anything.Including a Walmart.
Great place to camp but, people drive WAY to fast through the campground.
Good place to visit, picnic nice lake go boating and fishing
Beautiful park and very family friendly
Absolutely a great park and the Restaurant is wonderful AMAZING FOOD The potatoes skins are a must and the Chicken strips are delicious my hubby had the grilled spicy chicken sandwich he said it was delicious we will be going back!!!!
Beautiful, lake for fishing, theres a beach and recreational boats for rent.
The Lake Restaurant is the best around. Great food and great service!
Been going out here for years with my daughter and before by myself. Very relaxing and absolutely beautiful.
Needs better bank fishing to many ppl all at the same place
Had lots of fun I am from Oklahoma
The beach is free and has a volleyball court which is lots of fun. The water is shallow and gets deep very gradually making it perfect for kids playing. In mid-July we were there and the water was perfect maybe even warm. There are rocks to avoid all over the beach so be careful where you step. No lifeguard is on duty and they do stay open past 7 in my experience. In fact, it is perfect to go between 6 and 8 as very few people are there
Best view in town. Recommend the potato skins :)
Beautiful park, drive around it daily.
Beautiful scenery, delicious food, friendly and attentive staff. Employees wear masks and tables are set apart.
Great food! Great setting on the lake!
Nice park would like to stay a week there!
This is a peaceful state park. Check it out!
Beautiful place, great hiking, fishing, camping, and boating. Great picnic areas and play grounds. Boat rentals are great and restaurant too.
Beautiful park, nice cabins.
Great way to spend the afternoon with our dog! We rented a paddle board and a kayak to get around. Must do!
Beautiful! Fun beach area for the whole family!
What we saw of the park was great. The park staff needs to work with Google to get Google maps updated on how to get there.
Delicious quality food prepared by an expert chef. Nice atmosphere. Quiet. Wonderfull service!
It is very beautiful.
Great location for a birthday party!!
Good clean campsites.
This place was lovely, they make sure they clean everything so there’s no litter bathrooms are easy to get to electricity is nearby if you bought a campsite there are showers as well and the bathrooms and showers are always clean they have a trail that goes straight to the lake as well as a road for boats and another road for cars, I’m trying to as big as the definition as I can to best describe the place to encourage people to come and enjoy the place
Great fun!
Beautiful park. There is a one way road thru it where you can drive slow and enjoy the views or you can rent a boat and go out on the lake. I love spending time here.
A great place to camp, walk the trails. Even rent a boat for a few hours. Great place to relax or have a picnic
I love walking the trails and like the beach
The camp grounds electric sites are not the best for tent campers. GREAT BEACH....except for the fish that wanted my mole on my back. GREAT trails. Good fishing.Overall....had a good time though.
Excellent place to spend the day!
Beautiful place to hike and swim
Beautiful park, facilities and lake!
Thousand Hills has the best ambience of any place in the Kirksville area! The views of the lake are wonderful and the food is excellent. The house dessert is one of the draws that brings us back again and again. The staff and service are friendly, welcoming and attentive. Great evening!
Clean camp area. Ov3 the top service.
Lovely place good eats great fishing still a little cold
This is a beautiful place to visit. The dining is right on the lake with awesome views. The price was not to bad and the food was delicious. A must see place.
Incredible park to get away, go on a quiet hike, and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Service was Stellar!!!! Menu is varied and done well
Love the trails they dont call it thousand hills for nothing there is swimming, boating, camping.
Absolutely gorgeous park!! I love doing sessions here, and the photos always turn out amazing!!
Great lake. Only caught one catfish. Day after a tournament may not be best day for fishing. Very adorable rates!
Very beautiful and accessible. Since I was a kid the built a lot and have came a long way
I was hiking the trails . They have so much more there like boating, fishing, camping
We have been going to the cabins with a group for almost 20 years and I hate to say but the past few years the cabins seem to be going downhill. We rent an entire cabin and the kitchen which has not been stocked with pots and pans. Last year when we have to ask for them the kitchen manager was mad and rude about having to furnish them. I have been taking cleaning supplies for the bathrooms for the past few years and I am by no means a clean freak. Last July one of our cabin doors didnt have a window or screen which we reported and we were there for 7 days and no one came to look at it. Please take your duct tape to tape up the vents on the ac because they havent oscillated for a few years so we tape them up to keep them from blowing down on us at night. If you wonder why we have kept going it is because of our friends and family and the time with them and the beautiful view but this year we will make other arrangements.
A pretty good place to go to hike or go mountain biking. Good place for camping with friends as well and if u have a boat they fishing can be good. I mostly love the scenery and the peace of mind.
Great restaurant and park!
During the off season when the beach is not open you still have so much to see and do. Lots of beautiful trails to walk around and nice little play areas for kids. We love to go to the point and look at rocks and shells. A very nice place to just go and unwind and breathe fresh air and reconnect with the outdoors.
Great park 4 hiking and picnics
Beautiful lake! Spent 4th of July here with my family and it was great! We rented a pontoon, and had a good time. My only suggestion would be to add a couple more docks!
We have camped here twice. Both times the hosts have been helpful and kind. The reservation is already posted at the site, they share the events that are happening during our stay and also make sure we know where all the amenities are. The park has two campground loops. Campground 1 is larger and further from the marina and beach. Campground 2 has a paved trail that connects to the beach and the petroglyphs site. Both have bathrooms and showers. They are centrally located but the setup is linear and only 1 or 2 sites are close to the bathrooms. Campground 1 has the RV dump and fresh water fill. Several great hiking parts of various lengths are available. We also see lots of wildlife each time we go around the park.
