The company I work for sent us as a team building thing and it was great! The Battlepods are a bit dated, but it doesnt matter - as long as you have a group to play with its super fun. Theres probably 35(?) or so arcade machines around to play, too, and the guys that run it are pretty chilled out & helpful. Thumbs up, had a good time.

First of all, I did not go to the airlock but Im just putting 5 stars. I want to talk about something. The schedule. I am really disappointed that on most days it is closed. I know that you can make a private event but if its a arcade then it should be open most of the time. I was going to go on a Monday but it was closed and if you are reading this and you work there, you might as well keep on reading. I am still very disappointed about the schedule and if you have the chance, try to change it up a little bit. I am not saying your service is bad but if it keeps going like this then it can ruin the place and people may stop coming. So lets try to change it up, ok? I still really want to go because the pods look awesome.

Great place. Amazing friendly staff and a lot of awesome old school arcade games. The biggest highlight of their business is the pods for mech warfare. Youre immersed in one of the 8 large black tubes that contain speakers, a large display, 4 small control displays, pedals, a throttle, a joystick and a million buttons to control all your mechs features. The gameplay itself was very fun (though the graphics were eh, but I cant blame them), and as a first time player it was very easy to pick up and learn. My only other complaints were the lack of gameplay types that were played (80% the games are free-for-all and then others are sometimes picked such as KoTH or a game type similar to Halos SWAT) and that it can get a little unbalanced when more experienced players begin to play a lot creating a lopsided score effect. It was $25 for unlimited play (mech), and that included $5 worth of tokens for the arcade cabinets (¢25 per token, most machines need 1-2 tokens). In the front of the store was also a section for modern gaming consoles such as PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. The arcade games themselves where great, though the selection is a tiny bit disappointing (no Metal Slug!), but youve still got your classics (Mario, Gauntlet, Pacman, etc.) Would definitely go and ago and bring more friends.

My recent re-visit to The Airlock prompted me to offer an updated review of this establishment and all they now offer. My friends and I showed up on a Wednesday afternoon to play some games and have a good time, and thats exactly what we got. For $25, we got unlimited Battletech games and $5 in tokens for use in their arcade. The arcade was a new thing since the last time I visited The Airlock. Its still a work in progress, but what they currently have is nothing to scoff at. They had at least 20 cabinets from the 80s, 90s, and a few more modern games up and running at the time I visited. This includes classics like Mario Bros & Radar Scope, but they also had Street Fighter vs X-Men, Soul Caliber 3, Super Off-Road, and many others. I was pleased with their game selection, but I will say theyre a bit lacking in the pinball department (they only had 1, from what I saw). They told me that the arcade is open for people to use, even if they dont want to play int he pods, so thats nice. And if console games are more your thing, they also have a front room with two large flat screens hooked up to various game systems. So if all the other stuff doesnt suit your desires, theres that, too.I love the atmosphere of the place. It has the vibe of a laser tag arena fused with a LAN center, and I mean that in a good way. They got the low-light with neon and black light accents that I havent experienced since the arcade boom of the late 90s. It definitely gives a good feel and mood to the place. In addition to the arcade, console games, and Battletech pods, they have various sodas and energy drinks (and water, too) along with snack food and candy for sale. They said they do BBQs too, but I dont know the specifics of that. It sounds fun, though. One of my complaints when I first visited this place back in 09 was the lack of proper training on the Battletech pods, even though my group was there on an empty night. This time was different. John walked my group through the basics of piloting a mech in the pods and then progressively increased the difficulty/realisms of our games to let all of those in our group get acclimated to what they were doing. This is what I would expect and was not disappointed. One thing I havent mentioned much is the Battletech pods themselves. Simply put, if youre a big kid at heart and want to totally immerse yourself into a giant mech combat fantasy, this is the ultimate experience. Think of those full-motion Afterburner or G-Lock arcade cabinets from the 90s and enclose it with a sliding door and add many more information screens, buttons, and awesomeness, and thats what these Battletech (a.k.a. Firestorm) pods are like. While these things may seem intimidating, they have easier piloting settings for those who arent eager to go neck deep into the immersion and dont want to feel too overwhelmed. So, in summary; this place was a blast and was well worth the costs. I highly suggest anyone who is interested in doing something different or who is looking for that classic arcade vibe to check it out. I look forward to visiting again in the future.
