Unbelievable gem in Kilgore. Take time to visit this museum. There is so much here to take in. From very early primitive radios to the latest and greatest technology. There are interactive displays and plenty of hands on pieces. The early remote broadcast buses and restored vehicles are just plain cool! We actually had the owner and curator guide our tour. Take your time and enjoy! You will be glad you did! Please be sure to donate!
What a gem. This place is incredible. The amount of museum quality equipment that has been restored and put on display is amazing. The team is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. This is worth a day trip to downtown Kilgore for a visit.
Good pizza ordered on an app that actually works. Not sure how this happened. The review was written for Papa Johns Pizza in Tyler. The museum is a great place to visit. We spent almost three hours there and could have stayed longer. The contents are amazing, from TV cameras to the ESPN mobile broadcast truck.Sorry about the pizza.
As a casual collector of vintage TV cameras, I find this museum and its staff incredible. The displays are visual overload, and everyone is very passionate about them and the anecdotal history behind them. I wish I lived closer, but have to settle for one or two visits per year. If you want to reminisce about the good old days or learn about the ancestors of your hand held smart phones, go, see, read, and enjoy!
Who would think you would find a Smithsonian-quality museum in the small east Texas town of Kilgore?! Rick Rowe of KTBS TV did, and he took me there on a recent visit.OUTSTANDING!No need to have ever worked in TV or even have an interest in it to truly enjoy this amazing place. It is an incredible walk-back-in-time... re-living memories, and discovering things you maybe never even knew about:The actual camera that was right there when Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald on live TV.The cameras used on the original Jackie Gleason Show (with a FILM camera attached to it!)The first remote truck from ESPN, and the first remote bus (an amazing, perfect restoration) that covered the Kennedy assassination. And the first TV sets... first projection TVs (from the 40s!), first radios... Victrolas... Edisons...All this and tons more, plus an extremely friendly, accommodating, and super-knowledgeable staff that love sharing the great history in those rooms.DEFINITELY worth driving to Kilgore to see!
Absolutely amazing place !!! As a radio freak my self, I could have stayed all day..the most complete collection of TV, radio broadcast equipment and artifacts hell maybe in the country..the knowledge of the 2 gentleman was incredible and the personal tour was fantastic... love this place... One of the most extensive vintage collections in the country - Amazing walk through radio and television history!
Really neat experience. Make an effort to visit, you wont be disappointed!
Really interesting - well done and worth your time
Amazing walk through the past! Fond memories of when I was my parents remote control.
Such an amazing nostalgic place...A true must see
Fantastic nerd magnet
This place is incredible! From the studio camera that shot the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show to the Telecruiser (production bus) used to cover the Kennedy assassination, this place has a dazzling array of vintage TV, radio, and video artifacts & memorabilia. A fascinating, must-see tour of an impressive collection - perfect for young & old alike!
Amazing place! History worth seeing . You must plan a day trip just for this.
Interesting and Fun! See amazing cameras, radios, broadcast equipment and have fun filled afternoon.
The best kept secret in East Texas. I didnt really know what to expect before I walked in, but I was blown away by the vast collection of TV cameras and other media. The DuMont bus is a wonder of technology. It is amazing what the news crews worked with so many years ago. My daughter was enthralled, because she has not seen devices like these. (Shes 14, so she only knows smart phones and iPads.)I highly recommend this as a stop on a Friday or Saturday. My favorite exhibit was the camera that caught the killing of Lee Harvey Oswald by Jack Ruby.
We attended the snake class here and love it.
A must see and do in Kilgore!! This is a JEWEL!!! Take the family to visit, I learned alot about the history of broadcasting and radio, not only in East Texas, but world wide. Many, many artifacts and very cool communication objects on display. Very knowledgeable staff to explain and make the trip more informative and enjoyable!!! Gotta see this place!!!
Very interesting, all about TV broadcasting in the old days.
Amazing displays. Extensive collection covering the 20th century evolution of radio and television. Super guided tour. Went once then a second time took daughter and her husband. Well worth your time.
Coolest museum in Kilgore!
Kind of cool seeing the history of how it all started.
Definitely worth your time.
This place is fabulous! Went there as a birthday surprise trip. Many of the exhibits are functional, unlike many other museums. Many displays, and stories to go with them, that are of interest to those who work in the broadcasting industry. For those who havent, there is plenty to see. Old timey radios dating back to the late 1800s, best display of the stylish Philco tvs I have ever seen, period authentic shows playing on them. You can see Howdy Doody playing on a round screen, just like it looked back then. Fully working news desk, 2 cameras, green screen, you can stand there and see yourself just like the tv weather people do. Want to run a camera just like the news people do? There is a real one live that you can shoulder and run. Two working remote trucks, and another huge one in the works. Old radio control rooms, many tv cameras with some of their famous footage playing. Telephones that our younger generation doesnt know how to use. Real Superman phone booth. Hope I havent said so much I take the surprises away. Just go see it! Im sure you will enjoy. Very inexpensive to see.
