Located in key west, this is a free public beach that was well above expectations. It was clean and has a very nice pier to walk on, the sand is nice and you can go several hundred feet out into the water and only be waist deep. No undertows or big waves to fight with, and plenty of space to swim and play without feeling crowded. There were many people snorkeling in this area. If youre looking for a good beach, this is a good choice. There is also a dog beach for pet owners here. Free parking as well.

The beauty of Key West and some great reading around the area. This area is a cemetery for slaves caught by the Union Army, & released. Dont forget to check out the artwork right at the front depicting different religions and beliefs. A great dog park across the street, too!

It was a little disappointing, the beach has rocks, about three four feet from the shore, but once you cross the rocks patch the sand was pretty smooth. The trick is to swim through the patch of rocks..

It was a tiny beach, it looks like resorts fenced off what could be the rest of the beach which is pretty sad. Had fun but its difficult to enjoy when there just isnt enough room for the number of people that go there.

This is a nice beach. Its not spectacular but certainly worth a visit. There is nice snorkeling along the pier. Parking is free. You can also rent breach chairs and sun umbrellas for shade. Out of the two beaches next to each other (the other being right next to it) Higgs beach is definitely the one to visit. Enjoy!

The beach has inexpensive chair, umbrella, and kayak rentals. Our rental experience was good. Free parking. The beach itself is rocky going in and has a lot of thick seaweed further out. The water is somewhat murky. On the plus side, there is a good deal of shallow, open, sandy space for water activities near the beach.

Rented 3 chairs and an umbrella at Salute on the Beach, an older couple were working. They wouldn’t let us move the chairs around and only half a chair was in the shade of the umbrella. Said we weren’t allowed to move and it had to be 6 feet apart. This wouldn’t be a problem if the beach was packed but there was no one around. It also wouldn’t have been a problem if they didn’t give us hard attitude or moved our stuff back without permission. Very unprofessional and just went to another beach. Fort Zachary is where you should spend your money and is a much cleaner, friendlier beach.

This is a nice beach and the pier is a nice plus. Best part is that parking is free but very limited. The beach is very shallow until the end of the pier and you can walk (there are stairs) from the end of the pier into the water. However, water in the spot is not clear and a bit murky so I guess consider that if you care but otherwise a good spot. There are volleyball courts and beach equipment rentals available.

As a Key West beach, this small spot has a nice family feel and the sand is comfortable enough to lay on a towel. We rented chairs from the purveyor (it was too windy to also get an umbrella) which limited the part of the beach we could sit on, as we had to stay in sight of the rental kiosk. The rental was for the whole day. Despite leaving for a few hours to meet friends for lunch, we found the chairs waiting for us unoccupied and as we left them, which was great. So other beachgoers were respectful.

Spent six weeks as a homeless man here. Nice place to hang out during the heat of the day under some palm trees. Nice dock too for swimming. Slept at night in a tent in a small meadow in the middle of some mangroves by the airport. Key West police have become very hostile to homeless since the wealthy took over the town and turned it into one big B&B. Mostly obnoxious Yankees from up north. You can find yourself doing serious jail time for the heinous crime of sleeping outside. The Key West of Hemingways day is long gone and an overpriced tourist trap took its place. The cops literally fan out at night in their patrol cars looking for homeless people sleeping outside. It seems to be their top priority and gives them great joy. But with a little common sense the wealthy and their police can be avoided and you can get a good nights sleep despite their best efforts.

Convenient public beach in the heart of Key West. To do: walk out on the piers and enjoy views of the city, get in the water (its shallow and you can go out quite fat at only hip height waters), go to the botanical gardens at the fort (its free and very luscious). Caution: watch out for the derelict people hanging around this beach.
