Founders Tree honors Joshua and Sarah Brown, who founded Kerrville. In the 1840s Joshua Brown and others started a shingle camp nearby. Later, when Kerrville was officially named, Joshua and Sarah Brown lived in a cabin on this site, surrounded by oak trees. This tree was alive then, and was one of the trees near their cabin here.
